N-no, not again, please don't!

As the sun shone down onto a fairly average plot of grass, the golden beams illuminated a pair of pokemon playing and chasing around- two tan coloured creatures not dissimilar to foxes. From afar, the sound of giggling and laughing faintly echoes as the pair frolicked in the field without a care in the world, making the most of a hot Summer day. And why would they be worried? Only one pokemon knew what would happen next.

P-please! I d-don't wanna see it a-again!

A few feet away lay a couple- a goofy looking Flareon sat, fur ruffled and messy, with his giant fluffy tail lay on top of an Espeon like a blanket. The psychic-type was watching the two young pokemon play, a smile on her face as the warm breeze ruffled her neatly combed purple fur, her tails waving gently. It was clear immediately that this family was perfect, happy as could be together on such a glorious day. All was right… until the bushes at the edge of the field rustled.

N-no! Stop! S-stop it! I've s-seen it too m-many times b-before!

Twelve dark flashes split the serenity apart and the two parents immediately moved into action, all thoughts centred on their children. The two of them moved towards the Eevees swiftly but cautiously, ever wary of the hidden danger in the thick bushes. As they reached the centre of the field where the youngsters were playing, the flashes made themselves known- in just a moment there were twelve dark blue pokemon stood before the group, all with long pink tongues, cruel eyes and razor sharp shurikens made of pure water. The last one however, was different; the dark blue was still there, but with jet black colouring and a large sword-like blade of water in one hand.

"Allow me to make an introduction," the darker Greninja said in a surprisingly soft yet very lethal voice as he stepped forward and gestured to his comrades behind him. "We are the Silver Shurikens, assassins and bandits feared across the land!"

The parents exchanged worried glances, then the Flareon stepped in front of his family and said in a measured voice, "We mean you no harm, can't you see we are peaceful and don't want to fight?" Even in his controlled tone, the tremors in it were obvious, and reflected the feelings of terror the small Eevees were showing, as they shook in abject horror, fearful for their own lives and their parents'.

The self proclaimed leader of the Greninjas stared at the Flareon for a moment before bursting into laughter. The parents exchanged another worried glance and began to usher their children backwards but had only themselves taken a single step before regaining the attention of the black pokemon. "You're not going anywhere- except towards the floor." He raised a single hand and pointed at the family, prompting the Greninjas to all raise their shurikens.

"Run, run now!" the Espeon cried out, pushing them towards the edge of the field where a small den was situated- their home. The bigger Eevee opened its mouth to protest but the Espeon motioned frantically to the den with an urgent "Go and hide," before turning to face the Greninja band with her partner. "We'll do it together," her Flareon partner whispered, to which she nodded in affirmation.

As their cubs rushed towards the den, the two parents walked forwards towards the Greninja band, fully aware that death was likely but willing to try and bargain for freedom in some way, if only for their cubs. "H-hey, listen; what can we do to go free? We don't have many valuables but you can take whatever you want," the Espeon tried to persuade them, unable to hide the fear in her voice at all. The Greninja leader smiled, a deeply unsettling grin that was in no way reassuring. "Anything?" he asked, one eyebrow raised as if not believing them. The quadrupeds both nodded immediately and the Greninja laughed.

No! S-stop! D-don't make m-me watch! I'm b-begging you!

"In that case…" quick as a flash a water shuriken appeared in his hand and in the blink of an eye it was buried deep in the Flareon's heart; the life had left his eyes before he even hit the floor. And at just that moment the younger Eevee happened to turn around just in time to see her mother wail in anguish as the black Greninja stood over the fallen Flareon, a smirk on his face as he twirled another shuriken at his fingertips. The Eevee gasped in horror, almost unable to comprehend what was happening to her family, especially as it had been fine just minutes before!

P-pleeeeeeeeease no!

Her acute hearing picked up the young Eevee's voice and the Espeon turned to face her cub one last time, tears streaming down her face. She desperately cried out "Run! Please! You have to go no-" her words cut off abruptly as a thin blade appeared in her chest. The psychic-type fell to her knees as she clutched the wound; with a sharp twist from the Greninja, she screamed in agony as she collapsed, and the sound pierced the Eevee, filling her mind for all of eternity with a noise she would never forget. A scream that would forever haunt her for as long as she lived in this world...
