A/N: I don't own any of the characters except my own.
The next week went by quickly. Jenna had flown in with the boys and went to the closing with Ed and Maggie. Once the closing was done, Ed and Maggie took everyone over and showed them the place. They went back to New York to finish packing, since they could now move in at any time. They had actually planned everything for the week Hank, Olivia and their family were going to be gone.
A couple weeks later, the Voights and Halsteads were getting ready to leave for the Bahamas. Hank had taken Captain over to Trevor and Lisa's the night before. Everyone got up and got ready to leave for the airport. They had to give it more time, since it was an international flight. When they arrived at the airport, they got checked in and went through security. The grabbed something for breakfast before heading to the gate. Everyone sat down and the boys went to watch the planes.
"That wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be."
"Especially with the 5 kids. We made the arrangements early enough that everyone else had time to get their passports. I'm glad we got them for Noah and Lexie when we got ours."
"I am too."
"I'm just glad to be getting away for a week. Work has been so crazy lately."
"Tell me about it."
"We've been crazy too."
"Yep, we have."
"How did your lunch with Lizzie go yesterday?"
"It went well. They were able to find a place for Bernie not too far from Kathleen and she seemed to like it. They all ended up going to New York to help her go through her house. Kathy was supposed to be flying out there as well. Dickie wants to get as much as he can done before they move, which is anytime now.
At least Bernie agreed to move somewhere to be closer to one of her grandkids."
"They didn't think it would be Chicago, LA or Seattle. At first they figured she'd want to stay in the same area she was and Kathleen would go visit on the weekends but her biggest concern was something happening and no one being there."
"Thankfully with us, everyone is in the same city."
"For now, yes but that could change by the time Noah and Lexie go off to college or have families of their own. It also depends on what career path they choose."
"Oh, yeah, I know. Dickie's gonna be doin' Patrol at the 21st, right?"
"Yeah. He did say he was doing the ESU training with the weapons and he was thinking about taking the Detective's exam. I know he's mentioned that he would eventually like to work with you. He wanted to do the Marine Unit but the waiting list was too long. I know he didn't necessarily want to be a Detective but he just doesn't want to do what his dad did and I can understand that. I think they worked their last shifts with the NYPD yesterday, so they'll both be starting when we get back. I think they're doing what I did and having a bit of a break before they start their new jobs, which also gives them a little time to get settled."
"That makes sense."
"The only things that would suck about the Marine Unit would be having to go out on the lake or river during the winter months or when the lake is choppy. How many times have people been warned not to go out on the lake when the water is that bad but they do anyway?"
"Because they don't listen."
"That's true."
"Are you two still planning to take them to Disneyland?"
"We'd like to. I'll look into that when we get back."
"I'll have to make arrangements with Nick and maybe Maureen while we're out there."
"Don't think you have to take us every time you go somewhere."
"Erin's right."
"We enjoy spending time with our whole family but it's nice to be able to have time to ourselves once in a while."
"We totally get that. Why do you think we did the trip to Paris?"
"We have the best kids ever."
"Yeah, we do."
They continued talking and then a while later, the flight started boarding. They were able to get on early because of the kids. Once the flight took off, everyone but Hank, Jay and Justin had fallen asleep. Several hours later, they arrived in Nassau. They got off the plane and went to get their luggage. By the time they were done, they got on the shuttle to the resort. When they arrived, they went to get checked in. They were taken up to their suites and then everyone got settled. Olivia had taken a picture of their view as did Erin and Olive. Jay and Justin set up the Pack n' Plays for Nadia and Millie and then they all met up to go exploring after everyone changed clothes and Erin and Olive fed the girls. Hank was carrying Lexie, Erin and Olive had the girls in their carriers, Justin had Daniel on his shoulders and Jay had Noah on his. Each couple was holding hands as well.
"This is so amazing!"
"It sure is. I'm not sure about some of those slides for the boys though."
"We have 4 boys don't forget. There's plenty for Noah and Daniel to do. We can do any of the waterparks or pools, not just where we're staying as long as we're staying at one of the Atlantis hotels."
"I'm ready for the slides."
"Me too."
"Do we wanna get somethin' to eat?"
"Sure."
They found a place to eat and then they had lunch. After lunch, they went back to their suites and changed into their swimsuits. Justin and Jay decided which slide they wanted to do first, while Hank took Noah and Daniel to do something more age appropriate for them and Olivia, Erin and Olive took the girls into one of the pools.
"How many of these slides do you think Justin and Jay will do before we leave?"
"Probably all of them. You would think since it's your anniversary, Jay would want to be spending it with you."
"You would think. He'll probably spend more time with Justin than me this entire trip. Do you think Dad has anything planned for the two of you?"
"When he was making the arrangements, I told him that I would love to swim with the dolphins."
"That would be so awesome!"
"It would. If you two need some time alone, we can keep the kids."
"That would be wonderful. I feel like this anniversary is even more special for us because of everything Elliot put us through in the last year. Hank and I have become so much closer in these last few months."
"That was why we chose not to tell you what had happened with him when you two were in Paris. We didn't want to ruin your alone time."
"Which I appreciate. Millie and Nadia seem to like the water."
"They do."
"A few more weeks and our pool will be ready to use."
"I know and I can't wait."
"Me neither."
"We never did decide what we were gonna do for our girls' weekend away."
"We didn't."
"We should still do Vegas even if it's just the 3 of us and leave our husbands in charge of the kids."
"I love that idea."
"Me too."
A little boy a little older than Lexie walked over to them.
"Hi."
"Hi there."
Then his mother came over to them.
"Luke, don't bother these ladies."
"It's ok. How old is he?"
"He just turned 2 and he's trouble."
"Alexandra is almost 19 months and we're already there with her being trouble. We also have a 4½ year old son."
"We have a 4 year old daughter and a 7 year old daughter as well. I'm Marissa."
"I'm Olivia. This is my daughter Erin, this is my son's wife Olive and my granddaughters Camille and Nadia."
"It's nice to meet all of you."
"You too."
"Where are you from?"
"Chicago. I'm originally from New York though. How about you?"
"We're also from the Chicago area but I'm originally from Milwaukee."
"How weird is that."
"That is kind of weird."
Hank came back with the boys and Marissa's husband and daughters were with them.
"Well, I see our husbands have met."
"We went to school together."
"You did?"
"Yeah. Doug, this is my wife Olivia and our youngest daughter Lexie. I think you know Erin."
"How are you, Erin?"
"I'm good. This is Nadia."
"This is Justin's wife Olive and their youngest Camille. Justin and Erin's husband Jay are somewhere."
"This is Jade and this is Emma."
"Hi. It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
"This is Noah and this is Daniel."
"Hi."
"Hi."
"At least you have a good relationship with Justin."
"We didn't always. Our relationship suffered after Camille's death. It has definitely gotten better in the last couple of years thanks to our wives."
"Dylan won't have anything to do with me. He blames me for what happened to his mother. It wasn't my fault she got cancer."
"It wasn't. You're out in the 'burbs now, right?"
"Yeah."
"Are you still at Loyola?"
"I am."
"What do you do there?"
"I am a Pediatrician."
"Ok"
"What do you do?"
"I'm also a cop. I was with the NYPD before I transferred here."
"How'd you two meet?"
"We worked on a couple cases together and developed feelings for each other. Tomorrow is our second wedding anniversary?"
"Oh, wow! Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
"I don't remember getting an invitation."
"We were supposed to get married last year but the venue messed up, so it was a year sooner. We had all we could do to get her friends from New York there for it. I don't remember gettin' invited to yours either."
"You got me there. We just went to Vegas with her sister and brother-in-law. Jade was already on the way by then and we already had Emma. Where was your wedding?"
"On the Odyssey."
"Oh, wow! That must have been so romantic."
"It was. That was where he proposed. I was pregnant with Lexie at the time and when the wedding was supposed to have been a year later, I had told Hank that I was ok with not being married by the time the baby came. She was still going to have his last name. After the venue had messed up, I was glad we were married by the time she came along. I'm glad I got to experience it once and she was healthy."
"What about Noah?"
"He's adopted but I love him just as much as Lexie and I love Erin and Justin as much as I do the other two."
"Erin is yours?"
"Yep. We found that out a year ago."
"You two were always kind of close."
"We still are. Now that she's my daughter, that hasn't changed. She was with my unit but she's with Olivia's unit now. Her husband is with my unit and they were partners but once they got engaged, she switched."
"Ok. What's Justin up to?"
"He also works for CPD but he's not a cop. He does a lot of the computer stuff. He was helpin' my unit but after Olivia fell on the ice and broke her ankle 3 months ago, he relocated to hers. He decided he liked workin' with her more."
"What do you do, Olivia?"
"I'm with the Special Victims Unit, which deals mostly with sexual assaults."
"I'm an ER nurse at Loyola and I wish some of the cops we dealt with in those cases would show some compassion towards victims of sexual assault because a lot of them don't."
"I know they don't and it's a hard thing to deal with for a lot of people but it makes it even harder when the victim is a child."
"Yeah, I know it does. A lot of it is because they're told not to say anything."
"That's true. If I go to the hospital to talk to a vic and they don't want to talk, I don't push them and I always leave my card, so if they decide they want to talk, they can come to me. In some cases they have gone to someone in another District that usually doesn't want to be bothered. The only other unit that I am ok with them doing sexual assault cases is Hank's."
"We've had vics come in and we've gotten as much info as we can. We'll send them to have the rape kit done and tell them that we will pass everything onto Special Victims. You've even been there a few times when someone has come in."
"Exactly."
"You deal more with Northwestern and Chicago Med, right?"
"Yes."
"So, what are Al Olinsky and Trudy Platt up to?"
"Al is one of the Detectives in my unit and Trudy is the Desk Sergeant at the District where I'm at. Trudy is married now."
"Trudy is married?"
"Yep."
"That's a surprise."
"She married a firefighter. They got married just before we did."
"Are Al and Meredith still together?"
"Yep."
Maybe some time when we're off, we'll all have to get together."
"That sounds great. How long have you two been together?"
"That's a long story. She went to Nursing School at Loyola and we met when she was doing all that. We had become good friends and she got to know Barb, since she had done all of her treatments at Loyola and she had gone to the ER several times for various reasons. Marissa was her nurse on many of those occasions. When I took a leave of absence to spend time with Barb before she died, Marissa would check into see how I was or she'd come by the house. Dylan was nowhere to be seen when his mother died and Barb's last words to me were 'I love you' and 'be happy'. At the wake he asked if Marissa and I had been having an affair while his mother was dying. We said no. I didn't realize how much Marissa meant to me until after Barb's death. After the funeral, Dylan was probably off with his friends and his girlfriend and I really didn't want to be alone in that house. I knew I shouldn't have but I ended up at Marissa's because I really didn't know where else to go. We talked for hours but then one thing led to another. I really hated myself after that because I had just buried my wife several hours before that and I also felt like I had crossed a line I shouldn't have."
"I had started having feelings for him that I know I shouldn't have because he was married, so I wasn't so innocent either. He was pretty much avoiding me after that. If he'd see me in the cafeteria, he'd go in the opposite direction. I finally went up to his office and told him how I felt. We would still be in each other's lives whether we were together or not because we still worked together. I later found out I was pregnant but we pretty much raised her together. We didn't get married until after I found out I was pregnant with Jade."
"When Dylan found out about the baby, he was pissed and he said he knew we were screwing around. He doesn't know any of them and that was his choice. Baby #4 is on the way and is due sometime in November."
"Congratulations."
"Thanks."
Jay and Justin came back.
"How was it?"
"Awesome!"
Both of them took their daughters from their wives.
"This cannot be Justin."
"I'm afraid it is. This is Jay, Erin's husband. Jay, this is Doug Parker, who I've known for a long time."
"Hi. Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"This is my wife Marissa and our kids Emma, Jade and Luke."
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"Should I even ask about Dylan?"
"We pretty much haven't spoken since Barb died. You have a beautiful family, Justin."
"Thanks. I'm happy and I'm glad Dad's happy too."
"Do you and Olivia get along pretty well?"
"Yeah. We've been pretty close since we met. She's Mom to me now. I asked if it was ok for me to call her Mom. We named our daughter Camille Olivia. She's the only grandma our kids know since Olive doesn't have a good relationship with her parents."
"I'm glad to see you and your dad having a better relationship."
"We didn't always. The last couple years we've been closer than we've ever been."
"Are you in the same area?"
"Right now, we all live together. Olive, the kids and I live in the basement and have been since they bought the house. The only thing we share is the kitchen. Erin and Jay moved in when she was pregnant but are thinkin' about lookin' for their own place."
"We haven't done much about it though."
"No, we have not."
"Do you have a big family, Jay?"
"Not really. My mom is gone and I don't have the best relationship with my dad. I have an older brother, who's an ED doctor at Chicago Med. I never thought I'd say this but I'm closer to Hank than I am my own dad."
"You two have definitely come a long way in the last couple years."
"Yeah, we have."
"How long have you two been married?"
"One year today."
"Congratulations!"
"Thanks. We got married at one of the Disney Resorts. Dad paid for all of us to go to Disney World last year and Jay and I had decided we wanted to get married there. They were staying at the Contemporary but we stayed at the Grand Floridian and that's where we had the wedding. Just before the wedding, I found out that he was really my dad. Liv is more of a mom to me than my mother was, so I'm fine with things the way they are."
"Is your mom still around?"
"No she killed herself about 6 months before we got married. Jay proposed about a month later and we kind of decided that we wanted to get married in Florida. Mom and Dad decided they wanted to do a family vacation every year, so this is the second year."
"Wow! We always go somewhere for Mother's Day weekend, so here we are. We're only here for a few days though. Emma happened to have a 4-day weekend, so we're leaving on Monday. We flew down yesterday morning. Do all of you have plans for dinner?"
"Erin and I do."
"How about the rest of you?"
"We're free."
"Ok. Why don't we meet somewhere for dinner then."
"That sounds like a plan to us."
They made arrangements for dinner and then the Parkers left. The Voights and Halsteads stayed at the pool for a little while longer and then they went back to their suites to get ready. Hank went to get the pack n' play, so Nadia could stay with them for the night and then they arranged for Erin and Jay to take Noah and Lexie the next night. After Erin nursed Nadia and did some bottles for her, Jay brought her to Hank and Olivia. Hank and Olivia then met Justin and Olive, while Erin and Jay went to celebrate their anniversary. The Voights arrived where they were meeting the Parkers and then they went in. They got their table and were seated. They had their order taken after they looked at the menu.
"What kind of stories can you tell me about Hank? He never really talks much about his school days. I've heard some stories from Meredith and Trudy."
"The 3 of us played football and wrestled. Hank was pretty intimidating as a wrestler and was undefeated."
"That explains a lot."
"I've got boxes of photos and videos of our football and wrestling days if you would like to see them."
"I would, actually. I would love to see how cute he was in high school."
"Why wouldn't you tell her about that?"
"I don't know. I don't know much about you in high school either."
"I wasn't into much other than swimming. I really wasn't all that popular but my grades were pretty good. My first real boyfriend was 5 years older than I was and I was 16. I was pretty young and stupid then. I understand where Marissa was coming from when she started falling for Doug before his wife passed. My former partner and I were close but I respected that he was married and had a family. I never wanted to cross that line with him. He left without a word and we ran into him just over a year ago in Hawaii. He and his wife were divorced but then he admitted his feelings for me. He kissed me in front of Hank and I knew Hank was not going to be too happy with that. I am completely and totally devoted to Hank and our family. He apologized but later became obsessed with me."
Olivia ended up telling them about what had happened with Elliot and William Lewis.
"He wanted you to leave Hank and your family for him?"
"Yeah. He was once one of the people I would have trusted my life with but he couldn't accept that I was happy and basically said the only person who could ever make me happy was him. He had also planned to take his young daughter from his wife. He said the 3 of us could live wherever I wanted. The only place I wanted to be was with my family. He had filled out phony divorce papers and had planned to send them to Hank. If anything, I think this had made my relationship with Hank stronger."
"I do remember hearing about the William Lewis thing on the news but I'm sorry you had to go through all that."
"Thanks. I think Elliot must have been living under a rock because he knew nothing about it."
"It sounds like he really only cared about himself."
"He did."
The got the soups and salads and then they kept talking. A little while later, they got their food. Doug paid for everyone's dinner and then they all parted ways after exchanging addresses. Hank and Olivia got Noah, Lexie and Nadia to bed, while Justin and Olive got Daniel and Millie to bed before going to bed themselves.
The next morning, the Voights and Halsteads met for breakfast. They were seated and ordered their food.
"So, how was your night last night?"
"It was romantic. We had dinner and went for a stroll along the beach. We watched the sunset and went for a swim in the ocean. We reconnected for the first time since Nadia was born. How was everyone else's night?"
"It was great. I'm glad we ran into Doug. I haven't seen him since Barb's funeral."
"I thought it had been about that long. Marissa seems nice."
"Yeah, she does."
"You don't ever hear from Dylan, do you?"
"Nope. I saw him the night his mom died but after that, I haven't seen him. He was doin' drugs and did offer some to me. I got out of there after I refused and he made some comment about me not wantin' to do drugs because my dad is a cop. I wouldn't be here right now if I had gotten involved with that because you would have kicked my ass. I've done some dumb stuff in my life that I'm not proud of but I would never do drugs. I know what happened with Erin too."
"I probably would have thrown your ass in jail myself."
"I don't doubt it."
Their food arrived and then they all ate. After breakfast, Hank paid for it and then they went to get Noah and Lexie's stuff. After Jay, Erin and the kids left, Hank and Olivia made love. Afterwards Hank had his arms wrapped around her and she had her head on his chest.
"This trip has been perfect."
"I'm glad you like it."
"So, why haven't you ever told me about your school days?"
"I wrestled and I played football. What else is there?"
"You never even told me that. I heard some of that from Trudy and Meredith."
"The football thing I don't want to remember. My senior year, I had the ball and I was tackled. The guy that tackled me was a bully, which is why I think he played football. When he got up, he purposely stepped on my throat, which is part of the reason why I'm like this. They did have to put tubes in but I tried takin' them out. The kid was apparently suspended but I gave up sports after that. I didn't even wrestle either and that was more my thing."
"Oh, Hank! No wonder you never wanted to tell me."
"I just never felt normal after that. Al, Meredith, Trudy and Doug were the only people in my life, who knew me when I was normal."
"Just because that happened, doesn't mean you're not normal. Did Camille love you any less because of it?"
"No."
"I don't either. I actually find your voice sexy."
"If I wasn't like this, would you still love me?"
"I would. You mean everything to me and I love you more and more every day."
"I love you too."
They kissed and made love again and then they went to put their swimsuits on. Hank had arranged for them to swim with the dolphins, so they went to do that.
"Hank, this was so amazing. Thank you for doing this."
"You're welcome. I wanted to do somethin' special for you today."
"I love you so much."
"I love you too."
Olivia kissed Hank as they headed back to get a bite to eat. They went for a walk along the beach hand in hand and went into the ocean. They stayed at the beach for a while and then they went to change for dinner. Hank had made reservations for them to have dinner at one of the outdoor restaurants, so they could watch the sunset. They went back to the room and made love again.
During the rest of their time there, they spent time together as a family and picked up some souvenirs. By the time it was time to leave, none of them wanted to go home. They were packed and went to have breakfast before they went to the airport. They arrived at the airport and got checked in, including security and customs before heading to the gate.
"This trip even tops Disney last year."
"It was pretty memorable."
"I don't want to go home and go back to work."
"Me neither."
"I don't think any of us do."
"Thanks for this week."
"You're all welcome."
"Do you think you'll see or hear from Doug?"
"Yeah, I think I will."
"We saw him again when you and Mom were off on your own and I told him about the last time I saw Dylan. He said he wasn't surprised. He said he thinks about him a lot and he does miss him. I'm just glad that we overcame our differences."
"I am too. If that was us, it would bother me more not knowing. One of us will have to do a search to see if anything comes up with him."
"That makes sense."
"You do know these trips are going to be harder to do once Noah is in school, right?"
"Yeah, I know. Maybe we need to start doing them in the summer."
"We figure it out."
"Yeah, we will."
They all talked for a while and a few hours later, they boarded the plane. After a while, the plant took off to Chicago.
Stay tuned for more…
