Hello!

Hope you guys still reading this! My family and I were sick continuously for several months so I rarely have the chance to write. Sorry for the late update!

Enjoy!

There was silence following Light's words. The Japanese teenager counted on his head as he watched carefully the expression of Mello, Matt, and Near.

3...2...1...

Mello was the first to respond in disbelief, "You what?"

Light said, "You heard me."

Near only stared but Matt raised an eyebrow, "Did you just say that you can see invisible things that are unseen by normal eyes?"

"I did."

"In a psychic way?"

"Yes."

They processed the information, Matt tried to understand. "Are you an esper, then?"

"I prefer to not call myself that. I'm still a human. But, if it eases your mind, please do so." Light told them.

Mello asked disinterestedly, "What did you see?"

"For now, I see transparent figures behind three of you in here," Light began. "2 figures behind Matt. 1 behind Mello, and another 2 figures behind L. From my understanding, those 2 figures are a couple."

Matt gasped as he thought he knew what Light talking about but the notion was too bizarre for him. He looked behind him and there was nothing. "By transparent figure, do you mean you can see ghosts?"

Light stared at Matt a long time before he confirmed, "You can say that."

"Transparent beings behind us, are we haunted?" Matt asked in confusion.

"Not necessary," Light assured him. "I don't think it means you are being haunted."

"Then, what's that transparent thing mean?" Mello raised an eyebrow. Sarcastically inquired, "A guardian angel?"

"Well... I'm not really sure about you two but after I told Ryuuzaki about those behind him. I describe what I saw to him, we concluded that they were his deceased parents who died when he was 4."

Mello and Matt gasped. They turned to L who calmly sipped his tea before eating his cake again slowly. Mello frowned, "Is that true, L?"

"Yes," L confirmed.

Matt cautiously asked, "Do you believe him?"

"I have no reason to not believe Light," L continued, "Other than Watari, Suseri, and Roger who worked and know them before I was born, no one know my parents' faces. Yet, Light knows." Light never described them but Ryuk confirmed to both of them that what Light saw behind L was his parents. He added, "Light's maternal great-grandfather was a priest in Izumo's temple. That temple is highly regarded as a sacred ground for priests and priestesses. His grandmother was well-known for her fortune-telling during her life. Many people like politicians, companies, or traditional families came to her."

Mello and Matt glanced at Light cautiously. They could not believe what they heard but L was not a liar. He always is straightforward. They thought the fortune-teller was a scam. Who would believe them? Since they never came to Asia, they did not know the extensive behavior of Asians. However, like Near, they read in their books that Asian people still believe in those kinds of things. They thought it was impossible but now Light proved otherwise.

"So, you have something some esper power from your mother's family? It's run in your family?" Matt was curious. Mello added, "I don't think your mother was listed as a fortune teller in your profile."

"No. My mom is not a fortune teller, her big brother which means my uncle, took the family job. He is a priest in Izumo. After my mother married my dad and he relocated to Tokyo, they moved there."

"Does that means all of your family can do fortune-telling thing?" Matt blinked.

"No. I'm sure my mom and I can't do that. She always said that her instinct is inexplicably good. Like, if she did not know how to choose an answer during an exam, she let her instinct choose and was rarely wrong. That's how she choose my father."

"Is that why your grades are so high? You have good sense like her?" Mello asked skeptically.

Light smiled, "It needs more than good sense to stay on top as I did, Mello. Besides, my IQ is higher than my mom's. So, no. I'm not relying on instinct for my exams." Nonetheless, he had sensed that the notebook he picked up may help him with his boredom.

And it did.

"Can you describe the couple behind me?" Matt asked seriously. With one look at him, L knew Matt knew what Light would be described as he told Matt. Considering he confirmed that the couple behind him was his parent, Matt must have thought that...

"L," Matt turned to his mentor, "Did you show Light my parent's picture?"

"No," L replied. "I told him only how you ended up in here after your parent's car accident. Light didn't have access to my computers and you know you will be noticed by it if it's hacked by someone because you design the protection."

Prior to Light's arrival in England, L never mentioned about the trio so Light did not about each of them personally or even have the time to search for something about them. L had just told Light several minutes before the car stopped. In L's home, Matt as a genius in tech was responsible for any hacking or protecting from hackers. Light only had his laptop and was not allowed near L's monitor room because he didn't want Light to be triggered to be Kira again if he was in close contact with a criminal record so he was forbidden to help L during an investigation.

Besides, even using his laptop, Light didn't know the real name of the trio. It will be difficult to search for them without their real name. With the realization sinking, Matt was astonished, he looked behind, "Then... The ones behind me... Are my parents..."

Mello widened his eyes.

Matt frowned, "They are not in heaven or hell?... Why are they here? Can you talk to them?"

Blinked, Light stated, "I can't, Matt. They are not your real parents' souls. From my experience, "which mean Ryuk, "I'm only able to see recent deceased relative from a living person. But, that doesn't mean they are really here. No."

"So, they are not my real parents' souls? Then what are they?"

"It may be just a connection between you and your parents or some kind of memory attached to you. I'm not really sure. They did not seem to notice me let alone communicate." Light elaborated, "Based on my uncle and my grandmother, communicating with the soul of dead people is tricky and complicated. I'm not a priest trainee so I don't know how to communicate with the dead."

"I see," Matt turned to Light and blinked. He looked at L, then Mello before staring at Near. A few seconds, he glanced at Light, "You said, two figures behind me, two behind L, and one behind Mello."

Light nodded and describe the woman behind Mello. He ended it with, "You have similarities with her." Mellon confirmed with a scowl, "My mother died before Watari and L took me in." He glared at Light.

Mello became suspicious, "Is that mean you have Shinigami's eye?" He read it on the Kira Case report but has not translated the part of what it meant. While Near has reached that part and he knew what it was. So, instead of L or Light, Near was the one denied, "No, Shinigami's eye that was used by Second Kira was not like that." Mello scowled at Near because that reply meant Near was ahead of Mello in translating the Kira Case.

Matt decided to change the subject so his best friend was left alone before Light asked about the father after his counterattack was taken down by Near. Matt knew his past was a sensitive topic for Mello.

Matt asked Light, "Did I forget how many you said behind Near?"

The white boy beat Light in replying, "None."

All eyes were on Near as he stated, "Light never mention anything behind me." Matt snapped his eyes to Light who nodded and admit, "Yes. I see nothing behind Near."

Then, another silence followed.

Both Mello and Matt looked at him in shock. Light defined that those figures behind them were recently deceased relatives. L's parents were dead two decades ago. Matt's parents and Mello's mother were dead around the time they came to Wammy's House for the first time. Since the place was an orphanage, plus they lose their parents, they assumed Near was an orphan as well. Especially when they knew the boy was an experiment thing. He was raised by a scientist. No parents at all. Yet, Light saw nothing behind Near. "Is that mean Near still has a living relative?" Matt cautiously asked the room.

Near twirled his hair, "Yes, I am."

"You are?" Mello blinked. "But, you said you were born and raised by scientists as an experiment?"

"True," Near admitted, "I don't know my biological mother or the surrogate woman but I know who is my biological father."

Even L turned his head at Near. He stared at the youngest boy, "You knew?"

"Yes."

The other three saw the gaze between L and Near. They sensed they missed something. Light voiced out, "What's wrong, Ryuzaki?"

L's eyes were still on Near but he answered, "I know Near's parents or to be precise, the seed of the DNA manipulation and it was well documented in Near's document profile. Only me, Watari, and Roger have access to these profiles. Unless Near is my official successor, he shouldn't have known about the document. We never told him. Watari prefers to let him know when he is an adult. Basically, I'm curious how Near knew and wondering who he's suspect as his biological father."

Their eyes are back on Near again. They heard L asked him, "Who is it, Near? The one you think is your biological father?"

There was a stretched silence. Matt was curious and Mello never expected to know more about Near's past. They didn't expect this. For Near himself, he never thought of telling anyone about his father. Not that anyone told him who his father was. No. Like L, no one told him at all. But, he knew.

"The head scientists. The one who lead the experiments. Prof. R," Near looked at his mentor. L was silent, the boy took that as an invitation to elaborate, "Prof. R frequently doing check-ups for me personally. I noticed the other boys were supervised by his subordinates but Prof R supervise me directly."

Light intercepted, "Ryuzaki told me that you are the only one closest to their expectation in that experiment. Is it not because you are number one that the head scientist attending to you directly?"

Near replied, "It crossed my mind. At first, I thought that was the case. But, sometimes he touches me in a non-scientist should do."

Mello widened his eyes. Matt gasped in horror, "Touch you?!?!"

Near nodded.

"Define touch," Light told Near gently. He knew Matt and Mello must be thinking of touching in an abusive way. But, Light had experience with children being older brothers. He didn't take it seriously until he heard the full version. Misunderstood was easily accomplished.

"Sometimes he patted my head and played with me. No other scientist did that to the other boy. Even when I was under the supervision of others when Prof. R was out of the building, they were never affectionate to me. Only Prof. R did."

Matt cautioned him, "Pedophiles usually do that too to their victims, you know. Act nicely to cover their intention." Mello agreed, "How old Prof. R was?"

"At that time, he was 70."

Mello raised an eyebrow, "What makes you sure Prof. R is your father?"

"Based on our psychology class about how normal family behavior. Prof. R fits the description of how a father behaved around his children," he glanced at Matt and Mello. "Should Prof. R was pedophile, he will abuse me sexually during my day at the experiment building. But, he never did that no matter how long we spent the day just the two of us without anyone. He could delete any footage from the security camera at any time. Yet, he never did that."

Mello and Matt were silenced. Especially, when Near added, "Besides, Light had just confirmed it for me by saying Light see nothing behind me. My closest relatives would be my parents and I know, even after L caught Prof. R, his death penalty is not delivered yet."

Even though the punishment was decided, there was a procedure to do it and one of them was waiting because there were so many people scheduled for the death penalty. Near continued, "Some criminals who were caught by L are not publicized nor not in the Interpol database. Therefore, Kira had not to kill Prof. R."

"Never thought we had a similarity, Near," Mello chuckled in a sinister way, "Unfortunately, Kira had not killed my father either." He mumbled in disgust, "Despite he killed my mother brutally."

He looked at Light, "Pity, you are not Kira. I will be glad to give you his name and ask you to kill him most tragically." Mello smiled brightly as if he talked about the most delicious chocolate.

Light smiled unsurely like an innocent man but inside his smile mirrored Mello's because they ditched the notion about Light was Kira. Light told himself:

Kekakudorri.

(Exactly as planned)

—000—

"As expected, Light," L closed the master bedroom's door. "Light is an amazing actor."

Light chuckled, "Do you think so little of me, Ryuzaki?"

"I wonder if you want to pursue a career as one," L considered it seriously.

Light raised an eyebrow, "What it will do to your career as the greatest detective, then? An actor is high profile and followed everywhere. Do you think you will be saved from the media if you have an actor as your husband?"

"Ah, Light thinking about me. I'm touched," L said flatly.

Light huffed, he opened a closet and took out his pajamas. Put it on the bed. As he took off his top, Light eyed L, "Are you not thinking about me?"

It was a seduction, nonetheless. His low tone sexy voice, his seductive auburn eyes, and his body language screamed to be touched by L. Light let his topless body face L who stayed silent. Tonight was one of the nights when L will be sleeping. Ryuk knew the routine by now so he took off silently when L enter the room. "Well?" Light demanded an answer.

"There is no way I'm not thinking about Light," L admitted. He walked closer to Light who sat on the bed. Eyes on each other. L kneeled in front of Light. He softly worded it out as if it was only intended for Light to hear, "I think the world of you, Light."

The younger one was stunned. Light's heart was thumping like never before. He heard a ton of similar words many times. But, never he felt this way. Captivated in any way he never experience. He didn't feel he had won or anything like he accomplished something. To hear that from L somehow made him fly without a wing.

This happiness was foreign.

"You do?" Light asked in the same manner but with an irresistible cute yet alluring smile.

"I do," it was a rare moment where L smile without deduction behind his head. It was brief because he had to spoil it with, "Are we practicing our wedding ceremony? Saying 'I do'?"

Light frowned, "Read the room, Ryuzaki."

"Define it."

Light sighed, "You not good at this, aren't you?"

"Other than solving cases, I'm unexpertise in many things."

"Point taken," Light seconded. "In case you are not aware, we were just having a 'moment'," Light told him slowly as if he talked to a child. Maybe this moment was too advanced level for L. Light should have known since L never had romance relationship before. "We rarely have the time to be alone—"

Light stopped his rants as he felt a palm on his bare stomach, he looked down to find L's right palm was on L's abdomen. Before he could say anything, L stated, "It's bigger."

"Pardon?"

"Light's belly, it's grown. Bigger than before."

Light put his right palm on it and felt around. It was indeed bigger. "It's true," Light confirmed. There was a small bulge, not as flat as usual. At that moment, the realization sunk in between them. Their eyes locked on each other.

Their baby has grown bigger.

"We are going to be parents," he stated again. Auburn eyes widened. He knew he was pregnant but the little bulge on his belly hit differently than just an ultrasound picture. It felt more real than ever. On a whole different level. L noticed this, he asked, "Are you alright, Light?"

Light avoided his gaze by closing his eyes, "Ah, yes. Indeed, we are going to be parents."

For L, nothing has changed in his body since they knew about the pregnancy. But, now, it started to show the changes, especially on his abdomen part, Light felt strange. He won't use 'insecure' because he didn't want to sound weak. No. He felt 'strange'. His beautiful body will change. Wait—cross that. His beautiful body started to change. It was unthinkable for the perfect Light who always kept his body fit in any way.

L gazed at the belly again before he circled his hands on Light's waist. Auburn eyes snapped open and froze. He looked down when L started talking to his belly, "Hello, Little one. I'm L. Your father."

Light was so stunned to the point words failed him. He could only hear the one-way conversation by L, "Your other father, is Light. He carries you until you will be born later. Be good to Light."

Finally, he found his voice, Light softly asked, "What are you doing, Ryuzaki?"

"Talking to our baby," he looked up at Light. "Watari told me that many studies show the baby inside the womb can hear and recognize voices. Especially, the parents'. Watari said my parents used to do it when my mother was pregnant with me."

"Ah, I read about it. I thought people usually start talking to the baby when the pregnancy reaches 20 weeks."

L tilted his head, "There is no harm to do it now, isn't it?"

Somehow Light was moved. L's initiative to do it first portrayed how he looked forward to the baby. L really want this kid. He remembered when L said that he was an orphan once. For Light who was raised normally with a full family member, it was nothing special about having a family. But, for an orphan, to have a family is a dream. Specifically, for L with his line of work. He...never thought that he will have a chance to have a family. Child of his own

Light caressed the black hair of L with an understanding eye, "No, I think there is nothing wrong with that."

Briefly, onyx eyes widened. He knew that Light knew so he did not confirm nor denied. Instead, he got closer to Light and kissed him lightly. As if he was grateful for Light. No words to describe it. Despite that, Light felt L's unspoken feeling. It wasn't a lustful kiss but definitely a meaningful one.

L rested his head on Light's shoulder as the younger one stroked his hair gently.

Affectionately.

Like a mother would be.

Thank you for reading!

Psyepetras: thanks for reading as well. I use Grammarly to help me but not the premium one. Sorry for the inconvenience! If you know any other, preferable a free one, let me know!

osh0204: I'm happy to know you read this one too :) hahaha I'm really not trying to do the intelligence part of them coz it will be out of my comfort zone. This kind of story is my expertise. Fluffy romance. Don't you feel it is different than MoT/PT? That one is way over my comfort zone. I put a lot of thought into the jutsus. Since it's fantasy style, I still kind of find my way to do it but if it is in a real-world setting like Death Note, oh my... I don't think I can do that. A lot of research and I dunno if my brain can handle that LOL why do you think this story interesting? I thought you like full plot stories like PT/MoT? I'm curious :)) It's okay, I got your point about a baby girl fufu~~ Wait for it! Ah, to answer your question in MoT's review, several months back my kids got sick one by one. They got hospitalized for different diseases in different month. Not Covid, but still cough and flu. they were tested and not covid. So, I was busy in hospital. And then last month, I got sick. Headache for several weeks. Turned out my cholesterol is high. I am a bit overweight, I can't control my appetite ToT always always hungry!!! So I need to do diet low cholesterol etc. Thankfully, this month we are healthy so I can write peacefully~

Boom143: yeah, L need to read the room :))thank you! Love to know that!
