Thechaosmaster: Happy Valentine's Day, everybody!
Red: What the…? Why are you uploading? You're not finished with Hotland, boss.
Chaos: Yes, I know.
Red: Then, why are we here today?
Chaos: Simple, I had been spending most of yesterday, and all of today thinking about it, and I thought, even though I'm not done with Hotland, I thought, what better way to celebrate the day of love, then with a series all about love?
Red: Huh, that, actually makes sense, in a way.
Chaos: Yes. I thought so. Now, first things first. This chapter has a lot, and I mean a LOT going on. But, I think I'll let you guys read and weep at what I have written here.
Red: By the way, you stopped working on the next chapter again. Why?
Chaos: Heh heh. You see, I kinda, got distracted by reading another story, again.
Red: Why do you keep doing that?
Chaos: Simple. I'm still human. Anyways, the story I have been reading again is Expect The Unexpected by Artic Vulpix.
Red: Anyways, Chaos, as usual, does not own Undertale or their characters.
Chaos: Right. They belong to Toby Fox and Temmie Chang. Also, there's two cameos that appear in this chapter. I won't say who up here, but I'll explain why down below. In the meantime. Read, review and, most of all, enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 9: Destination: Hotland
Frisk's POV
Everything has been dead quiet for the past few minutes, everyone, minus myself, were completely shocked at what Carrie had said. The truth about her death is finally out in the open. I stared sadly at Carrie. Eventually, I gotten up out from moms arms and headed towards Carrie, who had completely broken down and started crying, floating in the middle of the air. I pulled her into a hug and she floated into my arms without resistance. I brought her into my arms as she wrapped her arms around me and continued to cry into my shoulder.
No one said anything, and for about five minutes, that is how it remained, nothing but the sound of Carrie's muffled whimpers, and the soft crackling of fire filled the room. I simply sat there, on mom's carpeted floor, gently rubbing circles into my girlfriend's back. Being the emotional support she needed.
Then, Undyne spoke up, after several minutes of silence. "Chara, you, you poisoned yourself? WHY?" She yelled out in anger, and I could see that she had he hands balled into fists. It was clear to tell that she was angry.
Carrie sniffled, then, she rubbed her nose with her sleeve as she slowly said, "It was supposed to be a simple plan. Me and Azzie discussed it for weeks before I ate the flowers. Frist, I would poison myself with the buttercups. Then, after my death, he would absorb my SOUL, cross the Barrier, after that, he would go to either a morgue or cemetery, and collect six more SOULs. Then he would come back here, and break the Barrier. He'd be seen as a hero, while my own death would have been labeled as a failed immune system. And Azzie promised that he'd take the truth about my death to his grave. But, as you can see, things didn't go exactly as planned, did it?"
'Why would Asriel absorbing her SOUL be part of the plan? Isn't a human SOUL by itself enough to cross the Barrier? So, wouldn't she just be able to leave, and do the mission herself, and collect SEVEN human SOULs?' I thought to myself, confused as to why her death was a main part of her plan.
Carrie rubbed her eyes as she continued, either completely oblivious to my thoughts, or more likely, she's choosing to ignore them. As she rubbed her eyes, she continued, "Before we even began the plan, Azzie asked me, well, more like BEGGED me not to put my hatred towards the humans into this mission. And I agreed, because he asked, and I knew he wouldn't nor COULDN'T be able to bring himself to hurt anyone. And I wasn't going to ask him to become a murderer for this mission. For him, I would cast my hatred of humans aside, and focus on the mission, and not have him kill anyone. But, then, once he absorbed my SOUL, the plan reached a slight, hiccup."
Mom, who hadn't said anything since Carrie revealed the truth, then asked, "What kind of hiccup, my child?" I couldn't tell what was going on through her head, but, it seemed like she was keeping things professional, and waited until she had heard everything before she revealed her emotions. She really seems like she's in 'Queen Mode' right now.
Carrie sniffed once more before asking, "Do either of you really know what happens when a monster absorbs a human SOUL?"
Both monsters, and even myself, all shook our heads and Undyne said, "It has never happened before. Or, at the very least, as far as our history can tell. We believe that it grants the monster incredible power, and many would say that it turns us into a hideous beast, or so says the Waterfall signs."
"And nobody likes to talk about monsters back in my town." I said sadly. The worst part of it all, is that, I don't even know why my birth home hated even talking about the Monsters. They just do.
Carrie sighed as she dragged her hand through her hair and said, "When a Monster absorbs a human SOUL, the Monster doesn't just obtain sole access to the power they have obtained. That power, that body, everything that makes up the new being, it is all shared between the Monster, and the Human they absorbed."
Everyone's eyes widened at that, mine as well. "Azzie wasn't the one who picked up my lifeless body to bring to the surface, I was. Azzie just let me do this, mostly because he felt like this was something I needed to do, a sort of, release for myself, as well as giving me the burial I deserved."
I hugged her tighter as I asked, "If that's true, hun, what happened? What went wrong?" I was wondering, if her plan seemed so simple, what went wrong?
Carrie let out a small growl, before hissing out, "The humans happened. That's what." I could hear the bitterness and venom in her voice as she spoke.
"What did the humans do, my child?" Mom asked Carrie. Her voice was still as calm and clear as ever, but I wasn't certain as to what it was she was thinking. She really was acting as a Queen right now, wasn't she?
Carrie whimpered as she said, "They saw my lifeless body in the field of golden flowers, with 'Azzie' standing above it, and without hesitation, they attacked. They thought Azzie killed me. They didn't even ask, they stupidly thought someone as harmless as him could hurt me. They had torches, pitchforks, and other sharp farming equipment." She then covered her eyes as she screamed out, "ALL BECAUSE THEY SAW HIM OVER MY DEAD BODY!"
My heart went out to her and I hugged her tighter and said, "Carrie, it's not your fault. The humans attacked first."
She shook her head and said, "No, Frisk, it IS my fault. Because, when the humans attacked, my hatred for the humans returned." Uh-oh. "And… in a single moment of weakness, in a moment of blind rage, I tried to convince Azzie to fight back, if only to protect himself."
She then started to rub her arms, as if she were cold, then she looked down sadly as she softly said, "But, he didn't. Instead, he resisted my attempts to wrestle control, and he picked up my SOULless body, and came home. Meanwhile I tried to forcefully take control of our shared body, to at least push them back, and maybe kill one or two of them while I was at it, you know, exact some petty revenge, but, well…"
Undyne then folded her hands and placed them on her knees as she asked, "What happened punk? Couldn't actually bring yourself to hurt anyone?"
Carrie shook her head and darkly said, "No. I had fully intended to hurt, or even KILL a human or two." She looked up at everyone, and I saw black in her eyes, almost like globs of darkness slowly taking over her crimson eyes, it was like the Crimson Red was being slowly swallowed by the Pitch Black. Could this be a side-effect of whatever it was those humans did to her? Somehow allow her hatred to change her appearance? Like it did back when I first met her?
But, before I could think more of this, Carrier shook her head, and I watched as that darkness faded from her eyes, and the crimson glow returned to her eyes, and in a more, subdued tone, she said, "No, it wasn't that I couldn't bring myself to kill anyone, it was the fact that Azzie's will was stronger than my own."
I was confused as to what she meant. I mean, how was Asriel able to overcome Carrie? My head was spinning with all this information, but I couldn't understand what it had all meant. That was when I asked, "Carrie, what are you talking about? I'm having trouble understanding all this."
She sighed sadly as she gently escaped my arms and looked towards me as she gently placed a hand on my shoulder and said, "Frisky, from what I can understand from my time being part of Azzie, when a Monster absorbs the SOUL of a human, whose ever will is stronger, will be able overpower the other SOUL, and have full control over the shared body."
I think I was starting to understand what Carrie was going on about, then I asked, "So, you're saying that, because of your hatred, your emotions were so wrecked that, you didn't have the will to fight against Asriel?"
She nodded solemnly as she said, "Yes. Azzie was just too good. Too pure, to want to fight back. He saw that the humans were dangerous, but, instead of fighting, just like you, Frisky, he ran. He chose pacifism instead of violence." She then sighed sadly as she said, "If I had only remembered how STUPID humans were, I would have just told him to leave when the humans began approaching. At that point, the plan wasn't worth it. But, it didn't happen that way."
She then looked towards Undyne and said, "That is why I can't hate you for what you did to Mike, Undyne. Because I was in the same boat, as it were."
"But, instead of actually being able to go through with it, Asriel's will prevented you from hurting anyone, huh?" Undyne asked, a strangely soft tone in her voice.
Carrie nods at this, then she sighed as she turned to me and said, "Frisk." This was the first time in a while she had simply called me 'Frisk' instead of 'Frisky' and I can instantly tell that means she is being serious right now, so I paid extra close attention to what she had to say. "I bet you're wondering WHY Azzie absorbing my SOUL was the main part of the plan. Seeing how Paps believes you can just, go back to the surface on your own, right?"
I nodded and slowly said, "Yeah, I was wondering that. Are you saying that, he was wrong, Chara?" If she was being serious, then so will I.
Carrie sadly nodded her head, tears starting to form in her eyes as she said, "I've tried it before. Mom and dad thought that I would be able to cross the barrier on my own. But, a human SOUL, by itself, is not strong enough to cross the Barrier, Frisk." My eyes widened in shock at this, then Carrier said, "It takes a human SOUL…" She gulped slowly, "and a monster SOUL."
My eyes widened in shock as I heard this, "Carrie, why…?"
She shook her head and placed a gentle hand on my shoulder as she said, "Remember what those plaques said about a Boss Monster SOUL being the only kind that can survive long enough for a human to absorb?"
I nodded, be it, slightly, as I said, "Yeah, I do. Why?"
She looked down at her hands and said, "Frisk, Asriel was a Boss Monster, when he died, only two KNOWN Boss Monsters were left in the entire Underground."
My eyes widened in realization as I looked towards mom and softly said, "Mom…"
Carrie nodded sadly as she said, "And dad. Asgore. I didn't tell you at first, simply because I fearfully thought you would've willing tried to hurt the only people I have left to call a family just to get home. That is why I didn't tell you, simply because, I was scared that, you would try to hurt them. But, after you SPARED mom, I knew I could trust you, but, it completely escaped me until we were at Blooky's house." She sighed sadly as she looked down at me, then she looked at me with these pleading eyes as she said, "Frisk, please don't hate me for keeping this from you, but…"
I didn't even let her finish as I quickly hugged her tightly and warmly said, "You were looking out for your family. I get it, Carrie. And, while I AM upset you didn't tell me until now, I would be more than upset if you didn't put your family first and foremost. I'm happy that you decided to tell me this, for, it only solidifies my decision to try to convince Asgore to call back his orders of war."
I looked up at mom, and she nodded at me, a warm smile clear on her face, then she turned towards Carrie, and her expression became unreadable. Then she said in a serious tone, "Chara Dreemurr, I really hope you realize what your actions have caused us."
Carrie looked down sadly as she nodded. "I do, mom. I fully understand what it was that I have done. Because of me, dad called for war, and in the end, caused the deaths of six kids. The fact that has happened rests on my shoulders, and mine alone. And I will have to live with the knowledge that everything is my fault. And, for what it's worth, well, I doubt the word 'sorry' would be fitting here, but, I really am sorry, mom."
I knew that things were going to be a little uncomfortable if this conversation continues, so I asked, "So," I turned towards Undyne as I said, "what's the plan, Undyne?"
Undyne looked over at me, then she glanced over towards Carrie before asking, "Is there anything else you need to tell us, Princess?"
Carrie shook her head, before saying, "Other than my death was planned, and everything went to shit faster than the falls over at Waterfall? No. Nothing."
Undyne sighed at this, then mom said, "We're going to have a long talk about this sometime later, Chara. I hope you know this. Maybe after you two get through to your father."
Carrie nodded sadly, before locking eyes with mom, then she asked, "Can either of you ever forgive me for my mistake?"
No one said anything for a while, then mom sighed as she said, "Chara." Both me and Carrie looked up at mom as she said, "What you did was highly irresponsible, and it got yourself and your brother killed, and took away a lot of hope from this Kingdom."
Carrie looked down in sadness, then mom walked up to her, knelt down besides her, and gave her a hug as she said, "And yet, I can see that you did all of this for our sakes. You did what you thought was for the best of our kingdom, while you were rash and reckless, I can see it in your eyes. Everything you did, you did for us."
Undyne nodded, though she did have her arms folded, she said, "Besides, it wasn't entirely YOUR fault that Az died. But, you're going to have a lot to work for to make up for your mistakes. I hope you know that, Princess."
Carrie nodded sadly as she said, "Yes, I do know that." She then turned to me and smiled as she said, "That is why, I have made it my own personal mission to help Frisky, here." She then playfully rubbed my head, causing me to squeal in surprise and glee. When she stopped she smiled softly and said, "At first, I wanted to help her get home, but, it seems as though I don't have to worry about that, huh, dear?"
I smiled brightly at her and said, "No, I guess not."
That was when Carrie smiled as she said, "Then, in that case, my new goal is to help Frisky get to dad, and help her get through to him. That way, maybe together, we can work out a way to break the Barrier, without any more deaths."
We all smiled warmly at this, because, truly, that's all we had to do. It should just be a simple stroll through Hotland, right? So, the only person to worry about, was Asgore himself. I then looked towards Undyne and asked, "So, Undyne. What's next on your list of visits?"
Undyne looked towards mom and she asked, "I don't know. Is there anything you want to add, auntie?"
Mom looked between the three of us, before shaking her head, as she said, "No. But, Frisk. Chara." Both of us looked up at mom who looked down to her feet, sadness as she said, "I'm, I'm sorry for not being there when you girls needed me. For leaving you both alone. You girls needed me, or at the very least, needed to know that I was here for you if you needed me, and I abandoned you to your own devices, just like I abandoned the Kingdom when I was needed the most. And for that, I'm sorry."
Me and Chara looked at on another in shock, than at mom, our eyes widened. Then, in a single moment, we rushed at mom, hugging her tightly. This took her by surprise, then I said, "You have no need to be sorry, mom. After all, it was thanks to you that I managed to get this far, right, Carrie?"
Carrie nodded brightly before saying, "Yeah, I mean, this squirt really did learn a lot from you. Besides, we made it alright with little problems, right, Frisky?"
I smiled ever so lightly, because she was right. I gave mom a thumbs up and said, "And it's all thanks to you, mom! You saved me from Flowey, gave me a home to call my own, and became the mother I never had. You're the best!"
Mom smiled warmly at this, with tears building in her eyes. She rubbed her eyes before saying, "Oh, my children. I'm so happy to hear that!" She then knelt down next to me, and gave me a great hug. Then she hugged Carrie.
It was then that I had realized what it was that I had gained since coming here. A loving mother. A comedic uncle who understood that terrible puns are funny. A goofy older brother who shared my appreciations for puzzles. An older sister who actually cared for me, regardless of what I was. I had finally found something that I always wanted, yet never really had. A family, a true family. And with Chara as my girlfriend, I had finally felt, whole.
It was then that I felt a strange feeling flow through me. It was, strangely familiar. I took a few steps back as I gave everyone a smile, and that feeling continued to grow. And I felt my heartbeat slow down, before four powerful heartbeats echoed in my chest.
Thump The first heartbeat came as images of mom passed by me. Of her saving me from Flowey. Of her warm, motherly smile, her light red eyes that seemed to shine with never-ending love and kindness. Her guiding me through the Ruins, and her giving me a home to call my own.
Thump Came the second beat as Pap's goofy smile and thoughtful expression came to mind. His hyper-active, energetic personality. The joy for puzzles we both share, and even the idea for different puzzles we were coming up with this morning while we were making breakfast.
Thump Came the third beat as Sans, his laidback, chill demeanor appeared, with a ketchup bottle in hand, and his eyelights staring off to the side, and his left socket was closed, almost as if he had just told a joke. His same love of terrible puns and practical jokes that many said were stupid and immature, but I deeply enjoyed. And especially the pranks. While annoying, and sometimes embarrassing, are funny as well.
Thump Came the last heartbeat as Undyne came to mind. The big sister that Briana should have been. The first person to actually ACT like a big sister to me. Yes, she killed me, but after that, and the uphill battle to earn her friendship, we had the best time we could have possibly imagined not even an hour later. And I actually got to cook with her for real.
These Monsters…
No.
These PEOPLE, came to mind.
My friends.
My loved ones.
My…
FAMILY!
It was then, that that feeling reached it's peak, as I felt incredible. I felt, so full of hope, so filled with love, that it felt as though my chest was going to burst. Just like when Chara said 'yes' to being my girlfriend, I felt, stronger. But this time it was as though the feeling was far more greater than it was back then. I looked at everyone with tears of joy filling my eyes as this feeling reached its peak.
Hope to live strengthened.
Maximum HP raised.
Current Maximum HP 18.5
You are filled with DETERMINATION.
And the feeling of love and belonging.
It was then, after rubbing my eyes and softly saying to myself, "I'm happy." After that I noticed that everyone was looking at me strangely, I gave them a curious look and asked, "What?"
Undyne looked at me in a curious notion as she said, "Kid, your eyes just flashed bright red for a moment. What happened?"
I was confused at this, then I said, "Well, I was thinking of the people I had met, you know, you, mom, Sans and Paps, and how you guys have practically become my family…" This caused everyone to smile warmly, especially Carrie, for she already knows where she stands in all this, then I said, "And then, I felt my heart beat in four powerful beats, then I felt a strong felling rush over me, then I felt, stronger."
Carrie seemed to have an idea, or something in mind as she asked, "Did you happen to have felt like this before, Frisky?"
I stopped for a moment, before nodding and I said, "Yeah, actually, I did. It was back when we were in Waterfall. After, well, you know?" I said, lightly blushing at the memory, but I quickly said, "But it wasn't as powerful as it was now. Why?"
Then I heard Carrie, who was blushing lightly herself, say to herself, "Could it have happened again? Hmm. Only one way to find out." She then turned towards me and asked, "Dear, I need you to summon your SOUL for me. I need to check something."
Knowing that she probably had good reasoning for asking me this, I nodded and closed my eyes and began focusing. While I was doing this, I heard Undyne ask Carrie, "You taught her how to summon her SOUL?"
To which I heard Carrie reply with, "Yes. After learning of her own messed up past, I decided to see how much damage was done to her. And the only way to do that was for her to summon her SOUL."
Then I heard mom ask, "And what was her HP when you first checked her, Chara?"
To which Carrie responded with, "It wasn't ALL that bad. Her maximum HP was a solid 15. Much higher than mine was when I first came here." Huh, I just realized, that I never asked Carrie how much HP she had when she first fell down here.
That was when Undyne scoffed and said, "Yeah, well, that not's much of a contest, Punk. I mean, everyone down here has more than one HP."
That surprised me, she had a single HP? My god. Her will to live was… actually. Considering that she was practically suicidal when she came down here, I really shouldn't be surprised, but I still am. Then, in a flash of bright red, I opened my eyes, and there before us all, glowing much brighter than before, was my very SOUL, shining brightly, almost making the room glow bright red.
Undyne whistled in surprise. "Damn, punk. That thing wasn't shining this brightly when we fought. That's actually quite beautiful."
I blushed in embarrassment at having my SOUL being called beautiful. Then I turned towards Carrie and asked, "So, dear, I'm guessing that you have a suspicion about my SOUL. What's the verdict?"
Carrie floated over towards my SOUL and began examining it. We all watched in silence as Carrie looked over my SOUL, searching for something only she can see. Then we watched as her eyes slowly widen larger and larger before her mouth dropped. She then looked at me in total surprise before saying, "Frisky, dear. You HP has just risen by two whole points! You're now at a maximum of 18.5!"
My eyes widened greatly at this, and I wasn't the only one who was surprised by this. "By the Angle." Undyne said in surprise. "Are you certain about that, Princess?"
Carrie nodded as she said, "Yes, I am. I can check her HP from looking at it, and her HP truly did grow by a full two points."
I couldn't hold back the large smile that threatened to split my face apart. I looked at her and asked, "So, does this mean that I'm actually, healing, Carrie?"
Carrie smiled warmly at me, before playfully rubbing my hair and saying, "Yeah, I guess it is, Frisky." Carrie then turned towards mom and Undyne and she asked, "By the way. Is there anything else we need to discuss, mom? Because if we want to get through Hotland before nightfall, we're going to have to get moving very soon." I silently nodded, dismissing my SOUL.
Mom closed her eyes for a few seconds, almost as if she was thinking about what it is she could talk about, but then she shook her head, and smiled warmly at us before saying, "Just one more thing." Both me and Carrie looked at mom, wondering just what she was about to say next. She then smiled at us both before saying, "From now on, whenever you girls need me, or want to talk, don't be afraid to give me a call. Alright, my children?"
Both me and Carrie looked at mom, and smiled warmly, before Carrie said, "Mom…thank you." We then hugged each other tightly, happy to know that, once again, we had mom's support for us on this journey. Both of us this time.
I turned towards Undyne, who had a smile on her face as well, then she stood up, and picked up the 'Chairel' that she got from mom's room and said, "Well, if you kids are ready to move, I'll bring this back, then we can head out."
She then headed off towards moms room, then I heard Carrie say, "Mom, I'm sorry, for all of this. I didn't mean for all of this to happen. You believe me, don't you?"
Mom sighed heavily before saying, "I do, my child, I do. But I wish that you weren't so reckless. If you had just talked to us, we probably could have done something that wouldn't have caused us to lose a lot of hope."
Carrie nodded in understanding, already knowing that what she did was completely stupid, and only made things worse, for both Monsters, AND Humans. Carrie nodded, then she said, "So do I, but, if I hadn't had done that, then…" She looked over to me, then she floated next to me and kissed me on the cheek before saying, "Then I'd never would have met Frisky, here." I blushed deeply at that, for I'm usually the one kissing HER cheek.
Then mom looked between us, and had some kind of thoughtful expression, almost as if she was debating asking us something. Then she looked at me, and she asked, "Frisk, my child."
I nodded, letting her know she had my attention as I asked, "Yes? What is it, mom?"
Mom looked as though she was fighting a loosing mental battle, before she sighed sadly and asked, "Chara, she told you about her life on the surface, didn't she? About, her scars?"
Both me and Carrie shivered at this, and I turned towards Carrie, asking the unasked question, then at mom, then back at Carrie, who slowly nodded. Then I took a deep breath before saying, "Yes, she did."
Mom had this hurt expression on her face, and I guess it's because Carrie never wanted to talk about her past, or perhaps she never told her family, and mom was slightly hurt that I was the first person she told, and not her own family. Then mom asked, "How bad was it?"
I flinched at the memories of what Carrie had told me, and when I looked over to her, I saw that she was shivering at her own memories. And I knew right away that neither one of us wanted to remember that. Then I looked up at mom and said, "To be truthful, mom. On one hand, while I am now fully able to understand her own, complicated, emotions about humans, and I'm happy she gave me a chance. But, on the other, I kinda wish she didn't tell me. And no, I won't tell you what she told me. I really think that it's best if that stays between me and her."
Mom looked like she was going to argue, but I shook my head and said, "No, mom. Trust me, while my own experience with humans didn't cause me to hate them, but, after what Carrie told me about her time on the surface, I started to grow to hate them. And that hate continued to grow more and more as she read the plaques in Waterfall. I'm trying not to be so hateful of them, I know that the humans were terrified during the times of the war, but every time I remember Carrie's story…" My fists began tightening several times at the thought of what she had to go through.
That was when Undyne returned and said, "It was that bad, wasn't it." It wasn't a question.
I silently nodded and said, "Yeah, it was." Carrie looked at me, and I could tell that she wanted the subject dropped right then and there. And, truthfully, so did I. So, I shook my head and asked, "So, is that all? Because as we said, if we want to get to Hotland, we ARE going to have get moving sooner or later, er, not to be rude or anything." I said quickly, not trying to be rude.
Everyone lightly chuckled at this, before mom playfully rubbed my head, causing me to squeal in surprise, in fact, I'm beginning to suspect that this is where Carrie got it from, then mom said, "Oh, my child, you have no need to explain, you have to forgive us older women. We love to talk you younger kids ears off, after all."
At this, me and Carrie couldn't help but to laugh, then mom and Undyne started laughing too, as I was laughing I thought, 'So, this is what it's like to belong somewhere. Now, all I have to do is get through Hotland, and then talk to Asgore. But, even I know that it's not going to be that easy. It hasn't so far, and no way it's going to get any easier. I can only hope that Hotland wouldn't be too bad.'
A few minutes later we found ourselves standing by the gates of the Ruins that lead to the forests of Snowdin, mom was staring at us with a smile on her lips, she then knelt down between me and Carrie and softly said, "I'm so proud of how you girls have grown. And seeing how much you have grown together makes me happy. Please, just promise me that you'll be safe, Frisk. Okay? Can you do that for me?"
I smiled warmly and hugged her tightly as I said, "Don't worry, mom. I promise you, I'll be as careful as possible. I promise."
Mom smiled softly at me, before hugging me tightly, then she said, "I hope, with all that I can, that you can succeed where I failed, my child. Please, be on your best behavior, Frisk."
I smiled at her as I snuggled deeper into her arms, then I said, "Mom, I promise you, I'll be on my best behavior. And, I'll try my best when it comes to Asgore."
Mom nodded warmly at me, then she turned towards Chara, and I could feel a bit of tension rise in the air, even Carrie was uncertain as to what mom was going to say next, but instead, mom knelt next to her and hugged her tightly. "I'm just glad to be able to see you again, my child. To be able to hold you again like this."
I watched as Carrie's eyes widened in surprise, before she too snuggled into mom's arms, she then wrapped her arms around mom, before softly saying, "Mommy." I watched in surprise as Carrie started to cry in mom's arms.
I was going to go to her, but Undyne put her hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw that Undyne was shaking her head, she then said, "Chara was always a momma's girl."
She didn't say much after that, and, truthfully, she didn't have to. When mom and Carrie finally separated, they were both smiling softly at one another, and Carrie still had a few tears in her eyes, but she quickly rubbed her face, before sniffling and said, "Well, it was nice seeing you again, mom. I wish I could stay, but…" She then looked at me, and I saw something I rarely do in her eyes, contempt.
It was then that I had realized, that, she just a major weight lifted off of her shoulders today, and now, even though there will be some discussions after this is all over, she seems to have gotten one of her biggest secrets and regrets out there, and now? She seems to have a bit of a cleaner conscious.
Mom then shook her head as she said, "I know, my child. You don't have to say anything."
Then Carrie looked down sadly as she said, "I'm sorry I got Azzie killed, mom. I didn't mean for things to get so outta hand like that. I'm…"
That was when mom placed a gentle hand on her shoulders before saying, "It wasn't your fault he died. You only had good intentions. I can't blame you for that."
I nodded, then I grabbed Carrie's hand before saying, "Mom's right, Carrie. You need to learn to let that go. I think it's time that you and I start letting go of the past. Wouldn't you agree?"
Carrie rubbed her eyes clear of her tears, before softly smiling. Then she nodded and said, "Yeah, you're right, Frisky. I've had this weighing on me since I woke up from my death. I think it's about time I move on and just accept that Azzie's gone. Maybe together, with you by my side, Frisky, we can succeed where I failed last time."
I was silent at this, acknowledging that she may have a point. Maybe together we can do things differently. WITHOUT anyone dying this time. 'Here's hoping.' I thought to myself.
Undyne then turned to us and asked, "Alright, Punks. You ready to head out?"
Me and Carrie looked at one another and nodded, then we hugged mom one last time, and I said, "Hopefully, the next time we see you, mom, we would have made it to Asgore and gotten through to him."
Mom hugged us back before saying, "Oh, I hope so, my children."
After that, mom and Undyne worked together to open up the Ruins doors, and me, Carrie, and Undyne walked out of the Ruins, and mom started to close the doors, but before they were fully closed, she said, "Please take care of yourselves, won't you, girls?"
Me, Carrie and Undyne all nodded, then Undyne said, "Don't worry, Your Highness, I'll make sure that this punk gets to Hotland safely. Don't worry about it."
Mom smiled in gratitude at Undyne before saying, "Thanks, Undyne. Really, for everything."
Undyne simply waved her hand as she said, "Hey, don't mention it. Like, seriously, don't mention it. SOMEONE had to snap you out of your funk, right?"
Mom smiled softly as she closed the Ruins' doors. After the echoing thud rang through the air, I turned towards Undyne and asked, "So, next stop, Hotlands?"
Undyne nodded, then she said, "Yeah, I'm going to bring you punks to Hotland, but first, I have to pick something up."
We both nodded then we started heading out back towards Snowdin Town, it was quiet between the three of us, nothing was really said, Undyne seemed to be focusing on the path ahead of us, while Carrie was floating next to me, I glanced at her, and subtly offered my hand to her, which she took silently.
As we were moving, Undyne asked, "So, do either of you Punks remember Grillby's?"
I nodded happily and said, "Yeah. Sans took us there during one of his 'breaks' as he calls them, after our 'date' with Paps. Why?"
Undyne looked at me curiously before asking, "I thought you were a lesbian, why'd you ask him on a date?"
I blushed in embarrassment before saying, "Well, I didn't ask him. He kinda misinterpreted my kindness for flirting. It was during our FIGHT. I complemented him ONCE and he thought I was flirting with him. Then it got out of hand after that. He was really sweet during the whole thing, however."
Carrie then playfully punched my shoulder as she said, "Yeah, and if not for Frisky being a lesbian, she might have actually saw Paps as boyfriend material."
I blushed a deeper shade of scarlet and asked, "Carrie! Why'd you have to say that?" God, I was so embarrassed right now. Why'd she have to say that?
But Undyne laughed as she said, "Oh? Really? That's interesting. I know Paps is a lovably goofball, but I didn't think he was that lovable, Punk."
I covered my blushing face with my hands as I asked, "Why? Why do you have to embarrass me, Carrie?"
Carrie ruffled my hair as she said, "Oh, you know I'm just teasing you, right, dear?"
I was still blushing deeply, but I nodded anyways as I said, "Yeah, I know, dear. After all, I'm always teasing you, I shouldn't be surprised when you decide to tease me."
Carrie silently offered her hand to me once again with a light smile, and I took it, then, we all started heading forward once again. Walking in a comfortable silence.
And that was how it was for a while.
The three of us just silently walking through Snowdin, oh, sure, we saw some of the people who live in the forest, who all waved at me and Undyne. We saw a few Icecaps, Snowdrake, who looked to be talking animatedly to someone who looked just like him, except, instead of being blue, he was light green, and was wearing a large pair of sunglasses. That must be Chilly that Undyne was talking about. I even saw Jerry again. However, he seemed to have his back turned to me, and was on his phone. I just chose to ignore him. He was pretty rude after all.
Then, we reached the crossroads where up top led to that fishing line, and where Paps guard post was, and right in front of me, was a SAVE point. I turned towards the girls and said, "Give me a minute, here. I need to SAVE real quick. I don't want something to happen and have to go through all of this trouble all over again."
Undyne nodded as she said, "Trust me, punk. I get it."
I then placed my hand over the golden star and I felt that warmth flow over my body, and I heard Carrie say, "Reuniting with mom and having her full support, it fills you with Determination."
I smiled and lowered my hand, then I turned to Undyne, who had a small smile on her face as she asked, "So, I'm guessing that's sorta your thing, huh, kiddos?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah. Every time I 'Save' Carrie says something like that. It's always different, so I never know what she might say next."
Carrie never said anything, and instead blushed in embarrassment. Deciding to spare her from further embarrassment, I grabbed her hand and gently pulled her closer to me, and then we proceeded heading out towards Hotland.
However, when we reached Paps' 'Guard post' our silent walk was ruined by my phone going off. We all stopped as I took out my phone, Undyne then said, "I wonder who's calling you, Punk? I don't think Auntie would have called you this quickly."
I shrugged and answered my phone, that was when a nervous women's voice spoke up. "U-uhhh… Oh my god, help…" It seemed as if she were completely nervous about something.
"I'd like to order a… Um… A pizza…? With, uh… The toppings are, uh…" She then cleared her throat, and I could swear that on the other side of the phone, she was shaking her head, then she once more spoke, this time very quickly, "I have them copied, I'll just paste them to you."
But, as it turns out, my phone was too old to receive any texts, and instead it read out loud, character-by-character, some kind of artwork of an anime catgirl. Huh, why does the description of that catgirl sound familiar?
I heard my phone click to signify that the call had ended, I looked down at my phone strangely as I asked, "Who in the Underground was THAT?"
That was when Undyne chuckled and said, "THAT was Alphys, kids."
I looked up at the fish lady and asked, "Really? That's the current Royal Scientist? She really did seem like a nervous wreck."
Undyne chuckled softly as she said, "Yeah, that's Alphys for ya. She's one of the smartest people down here, but she has some really bad social anxiety. Trust me, she may not seem like much when you meet her, but a lot of what we have in technological advancements is thanks to her understanding of both science and magic."
Carrie whistled in amazement as she said, "Damn. She's that smart?"
Undyne smirked as we continued walking and said, "You kidding me? She's the best at what she does! You couldn't even imagine what that girl could do when she puts her mind to it, and doesn't second guess herself."
That was when we heard heavy footsteps coming towards us, I looked up and saw that Paps was coming our way. "AH, UNDYNE! FRISK! HOW ARE YOU LADIES DOING TODAY?"
I smiled softly at the puzzle enthusiast and said, "We're doing fine, Paps. How 'bout yourself?"
Paps gave us a big thumbs up before saying, "SIMPLY MARVELOUS, FRISK. I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THAT NEW PATTERN THAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT TODAY."
My eyes sparkled as I said, "Really?" It started out as a simple discussion about puzzles, but eventually, we began coming up with coming up with cooler and cooler puzzles. The last one seemed to really resonate with Paps.
Paps nodded rapidly as he said, "YES! HOWEVER, I WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO GO THROUGH A FEW MORE VARIATIONS OF IT BEFORE IT IS FULLY COMPLETED." I smiled at this. Maybe Paps' new 'COOL DUDE' pattern will be what tops his face pattern.
That was when I remembered something, back during our FIGHT, Paps was really excited to use his 'Special Attack' but was really disappointed when Toby stole it. I looked up at him and asked, "Hey, Paps. Did you ever get your 'Special Attack' back from that Annoying Dog?"
Paps smiled the brightest I had ever seen him, before he gave us a thumbs up and said, "YES, FRISK! AFTER YOUR DEPARTURE TO WATERFALL, I MANAGED TO TRACK DOWN THAT ANNOYING DOG, AND GOT MY SPECIAL ATTACK BACK!" He then looked down at me curiously, before he asked, "WHY DO YOU ASK, FRISK?"
I smiled brightly at him before saying, "I actually wanted to see it. You were really excited to show it off the other day, but it got stolen from you." I then twiddled my fingers nervously before asked, "So, can you show it to me?"
I could tell that Papyrus seemed to be really excited to be able to finally show off his Special Attack that he said, "YES! RIGHT! OF COURSE YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN MY SUPER COOL SPECIAL ATTACK!" He then looked around, probably searching for that Annoying Dog. Seeing how Toby wasn't anywhere in the general vicinity, Paps nodded before saying, "RIGHT." He then looked at me, and he asked, "ARE YOU READY, FRISK? YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE THE GREAT PAPYRUS' SUPER SPECIAL ATTACK!"
I felt Chara place her hand on my shoulder as she asked, "Hey, are you certain that this is a good idea, Frisky?"
I smiled softly as I glanced over to her and thought, 'Hey, he was really excited to show me this 'Special Attack' during our FIGHT. I think it would only be fair for him to finally show off just what it was he wanted me to see.'
I heard Carrie sigh as she smiled softly at me before saying, "All right, then. If that's what you wish. Let's see what this big lug's special attack is."
'Thank you, Carrie.' I thought to her, then I looked at Paps and nodded as I said, "Yes, Paps. I'm ready. Show me your Special Attack!"
Paps smiled brightly as he slammed his right hand into his left palm before saying, "RIGHT, THEN, FRISK!" He then raised his right hand skyward before saying, "BEHOLD! MY SPECIAL ATTACK!"
He then nodded and pulled on his glove tighter over his right hand, then he crossed his right arm over his chest with his fist closed tightly, then he extended his arm outwards in front of him, and his right eye began glowing in a bright orange flame, and then an orange ball of fire appeared before us, and then a strange, white liquid began forming over the flame in front of us. Taking the shape of a formless ball of white goo. At first I was taken back, there was no way this could be Paps 'Ultra Cool Special Move' that he was hyping about the other day. It looked more like putty than anything else.
But, before I could say anything, the white glob of goo began taking form, and it soon stopped dripping into the snow, then the ball began elongating slowly, almost becoming oval shape, then from the bottom, it seemed as though some kind of chin was taking form, meanwhile, on the top, two black lines were appearing on either side of this new shape, while at the middle of the oval, it was becoming a small square/rectangular object, with two tiny pinprick holes, with a small horn taking form at what I can only think was now a nose.
Then in the back, several spikes started to take form. Then, the form started to harden, until it looked like bones, and at the end of it all, the black lines opened up to showcase two, orange glowing circles. In all honesty, it looked like the skull of a wolf. Then it opened its mouth to reveal its sharp teeth. And then, it breathed.
I took two unconscious steps back in a small amount of fright, as well as feeling an incredible amount of magical power coming from it. 'My god. This thing is incredible. Papyrus had THIS as his special attack?' I thought to myself in amazement.
Papyrus looked at me and he asked, "ARE YOU IMPRESSED, FRISK?"
I looked at him with wide eyes and said, "Impressed? I'm amazed! Paps, this? This is incredible!"
He then smiled brightly as he said, "I KNOW! ISN'T SHE AMAZING?"
"SHE?" Me, Carrie and Undyne asked in surprise. The fact that Undyne hadn't said anything at ALL showcased that she hadn't known of Paps' Special Attack. Or, at the very least, he never showed her.
Paps nodded as he petted his strange wolf skull with a smile on his face as he said, "YES, SHE. HER NAME IS LUCY. AIN'T SHE THE SWEETEST?"
I watched as the skull wolf looked at me, and I could feel it's breath on my face. I was frozen in fear, then I turned towards Paps and asked, "What, uh, what IS she, Paps?"
That was when Paps smiled lightly as he said, "OH, SHE IS ACTUALLY A SORT OF, FAIMLY MAGIC."
"'Family Magic?' Paps, what do you mean?" I asked, a little curious about this thing in front of me.
Paps smiled at my question, then he frowned lightly, and the skull floated towards him, and rubbed his face, causing Paps to smile once again, then he said, "LUCY IS CALLED A GASTER BLASTER. GASTER BLASTERS ARE SUMMON WEAPONS THAT MY FATHER CREATED. OF COURSE, DAD NAMED THEM AFTER HIMSELF. HE ACTUALLY WAS REALLY INTELLIGENT."
I looked at him and asked, "Does that mean that Sans can summon one of these as well, Paps?"
But Paps shook his head as he sighed in slight annoyance and said, "NO, MY BROTHER NEVER SEEMED INTERESTED IN LEARNING OUR FATHERS MAGIC. HE'S JUST TOO LAZY TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN SLEEP, DRINK KETCHUP, AND EAT AT GRILLBY'S."
That was when Carrie took a curious look at the Gaster Blaster and she said, "You know, something about this reminds me of someone." Then she looked into the things eyes, and she floated back in surprise as she said, "Wingding? Wingding… Gaster? The previous Royal Scientist? He had one as well? And would that make Sans and Papyrus, his sons?" I could tell that Carrie is trying her hardest to remember anything from the last Royal Scientist, but she was struggling.
That was when Paps, who was completely oblivious to Carrie and her questions, said, "HE WAS ACTUALLY TEACHING ME HOW TO SUMMON THESE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND HE WAS STILL AROUND, BUT I ALWAYS HAD A HARD TIME DOING SO. BUT, ONE DAY, HE JUST, DISAPPEARED. SANS SAID THAT THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT OVER AT THE CORE, AND THEN, HE WAS JUST, GONE. SANS NEVER LIKES TO TALK ABOUT IT, AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO KNEW HIM, SOMEHOW FORGOTTEN HIS NAME. IT FEELS LIKE ONLY ME AND SANS REMEMBER OUR FATHERS NAME, AND WHAT HE WAS LIKE."
I saw Carrie nod as she said, "Yeah, I noticed that. Wing Ding said that he shattered himself across time and space. That everyone that knew him had their memories erased, not of his existence, just his name. But wait…" She then looked at Paps with a skeptical expression as she asked herself, "I have a hard time just remembering Wing Ding, yet, you act like all your memories are still in one piece. Why? Why do you and Sans remember him more clearly than anyone else? What's so special about you and Sans, Papyrus? Is it the fact that you're his kids that leaves your memories uncorrupted? Or is it something else?"
I watched as Paps looked down sadly, unaware of Carrie's question, as he gently petted the Gaster Blaster, then he gave me a thumbs up before saying, "SO, TO HONOR MY FATHER, I TOOK THE INSTRUCTIONS LEFT BEHIND ABOUT THE GASTER BLASTERS, AND BEGAN PRACTICING HOW TO MASTER THIS. IT HAS TAKEN ME A LONG TIME AND DEDICATION, BUT I HAVE FINALLY MANAGED TO MASTER SUMMONING HER TWO YEARS AGO."
Lucy then turned to me once more and began sniffing me like a dog. Deciding that, maybe, if I show that I'm not hostile, she won't hurt me. I smiled at Lucy, before offering my hand and I said, "It's okay, Lucy. I'm not a threat. I'm Paps friend, as a matter of fact. My name's Frisk. It's nice to meet you."
Lucy stared at my hand, before taking a few sniffs of my hand, then she bowed her head to me, I looked up to Paps and he gave me a thumbs up and said, "SHE WANTS YOU TO PET HER, FRISK."
Cautiously, I raised my hand, and began petting the skull wolf very slowly, and I discovered that, she felt hard and sturdy, but, at the same time, smooth. Then I looked down to Lucy and said, "You're a good girl, aren't you, Lucy?"
After I finished petting Lucy, I took a step back to respect boundaries. Then Carrie floated next to Lucy and she smiled as she put her hands to her hips and said, "Well, she doesn't seem all that bad. I wonder, however, what she can do?"
That was when the Gaster Blaster turned towards Carrie and started growling at her. Carrie floated backwards in surprise as she asked, "You can see me?"
That was when the Gaster Blaster started to charge up some kind of orange magic in her mouth, and then it started to slowly open its mouth, to reveal a big ball of orange energy.
Me and Undyne were frozen to the ground, for we had no idea what this thing could do, and now it looked like it was going to attack Carrie. That was when Papyrus called out, "LUCY! DON'T ATTACK MY FRIENDS' FRIEND! LEAVE THE YOUNG GIRL ALONE!"
Silence.
That's what filled the air as the Gaster Blaster dispersed the magic in her mouth and backed away from Carrie, who was gaping like a fish. She turned towards Papyrus and she slowly asked, "Wait. You…? You can see me?"
Papyrus nodded and with a large smile, he said, "BUT OF COURSE. WHY WOULDN'T I, YOUNG LADY?"
Me, Undyne and Chara were all silent for a while, then Carrie said, "Paps, can I call you Paps?"
Paps nodded enthusiastically as he said, "BUT OF COURSE! YOU'RE A FRIEND OF FRISK, ARE YOU NOT?"
Carrie nodded as she said, "Of course I am." She smiled warmly at as she said, "Probably one of my closest friends. A true second best friend." 'And also my girlfriend.' She thought to me.
I smiled at that. Yes, she called me her second best friend. And I knew that meant that she still views Asriel as her best friend. And, really, I don't mind. I didn't want to take Asriel's place as he best friend.
Then Paps said proudly, "THEN, IN THAT CASE, ANY FRIEND OF FRISK, IS A FRIEND OF MINE. SO, AS FRIENDS, YOU CAN CALL ME 'PAPS' YOUNG LADY."
Carrie nodded with a light smile, then she said, "Well, first of all, I'm Carrie, and I have been helping Frisk out while she has been down here."
"AH!" Paps said in a surprised tone, "SO YOU'RE THE RECLUSE THAT LIVED IN THE RUINS, HUH?"
Carrie shrugged as she said, "Only if you count being dead and buried for a long time, being a 'recluse' then, yeah." Carrie then looked at Paps, who didn't even seem to be surprised that Carrie revealed that she was dead. Paps probably figured that out on his own.
I would say that was unlikely, but he has been proving to be smarter than he lets on, I mean, look at his Gauntlet Of Deadly Terror. That thing was really well built. That was when Carrie said, "Paps, I'm dead. I'm just a ghost of someone who lived a long time ago. My SOUL is latched onto Frisk's. That's the only reason why I'm here."
Paps seemed to nod softly as he said in a more serious voice, "I had a feeling. You aren't like normal Ghost Monsters, Carrie. I just didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable."
Carrie smiled softly as she said, "Thanks, Paps. You really are smarter than you let on. I'm impressed." Then she cleared her throat and asked, "Just out of curiosity, how long have you been able to see me, Paps?"
Paps got into his thinking pose, then he said in his normal voice, "WELL, I THINK THE FIRST TIME I ACTUALLY NOTICED YOU WAS…HMM…" He then scratched his chin as he began thinking, then his eyes widened and he snapped his fingers before saying, "BACK DURING THE PUZZLE THAT LOOKED LIKE MY FACE."
Our eyes widened at this, shocked that Paps had known about Carrie for this long, yet, he never said anything. "Why?" Carrie asked Paps, who turned towards her. "If you could see me for so long, then, why didn't you say anything?"
Paps waved his hand to the side before saying, "WELL, I NEVER WANTED TO BRING IT UP BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO BE RUDE, YOU NEVER REALLY SPOKE TO ME PERSONALLY, AT THE VERY LEAST, NOT DIRECTLY. AND I JUST ASSUMED THAT YOU WERE JUST SHY, AND I DIDN'T WANT TO PROTRUDE ONTO SOMETHING THAT SEEMED PERSONAL." That, actually makes sense. Paps has always been very polite. Energetic, but polite. "PLUS, I SAW HOW WELL YOU AND YOUNG FRISK WORKED TOGETHER TO SOLVE MY PUZZLES, THAT I SIMPLY SAW YOU AS YET ANOTHER PUZZLE ENTHUSIAST."
Carrie lightly chucked at that, then she said, "Wow, Paps, you're really are something else, aren't you?" Paps gave her a large thumbs up, then she realized something and she blushed in embarrassment as she covered her face and said, "Awe, crap. I said some awful stuff about you, right in front of you, and I wasn't aware you could hear me. Paps, I'm sorry."
Paps smiled broadly as he waved his hand and said, "OH, IT'S NOTHING CARRIE. MY FRIEND FLOWEY IS A LOT LIKE YOU, IN THAT REGARDS." That caused every one of us girls to freeze in place. I shivered at the name of Flowey, and I quickly looked around, but, I didn't see him, thank God.
Paps wasn't even aware of the uneasy tension as he said, "FLOWEY WOULD ALWAYS TELL ME IF SOMETHING SEEMED TOO STUPID, OR EVEN ABSURD. HE MAY SEEM LIKE A BAD GUY, BUT I CAN TELL, THAT ALL HE IS LONELY AND IN NEED OF SOME FRIENDS. TRUST ME, ONCE YOU GET PAST HIS HARSH AND SOMETIMES DISRESPECTFUL ATTITUDE, YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT HE'S ACTUALLY A VERY NICE GUY."
I fiddled my fingers nervously before asked, "Hey, uh, Paps, can you, uh, not mention Carrie to anyone, please?"
Paps looked down at me in curiosity, as he asked, "WHY?"
To which Undyne finally spoke up and said, "Paps, listen, big guy. I get that Flowey is your friend and all, but, he tried to attack Frisk when she first fell down here. And I get the feeling that if he knew about her, he might try to hurt her again. Understand?"
Paps nodded, then in a soft voice he said, "Yeah, I understand, Undyne." We were all shocked. Whenever Paps spoke in that soft voice, we could tell that he was serious, and that he understood more than he lets on. Then he turned to me and Carrie before asking, "That must be why you never brought her up, huh, Frisk?"
I nodded before saying, "Yeah, something like that, Paps. If people knew I had a ghost following me around, they might get, superstitious, and rumors might start running around. You know?"
Paps nodded in understanding, then he asked, "So, I guess this means I can't tell anyone about her, huh?"
Undyne shook her head as she said, "No, Paps. You can't tell ANYONE. Not your brother, not the King, not any members of the Royal Guard, and not Flowey."
Paps looked hurt at this. "I can't tell my friend?" He asked sorrowfully.
Undyne shook her head as she said, "I'm sorry Paps. But, no, you can't." Then she had a thoughtful expression on her face, and she smiled softly. She looked at Paps and said, "Think of this as a test, Paps."
"A test, Undyne? What kind of test?" Paps asked curiously.
Undyne slapped him on the back before saying, "Think of this as a part of an initiation towards the Royal Guard." I swear, I saw stars spinning in Paps eyes as Undyne continued. "Me and the punk were actually talking about what you'd be good at for the guard. Because I always had a hard time placing you somewhere, and she came up with something, but, before I tell what that is, let me explain why keeping the ghost a secret is part of being a Royal Guard."
By this point, Undyne had Paps full attention, even the Gaster Blaster seemed interested. Which was kinda hilarious.
Then Undyne spoke up. "You see, Paps, there will be times where you will receive important messages, documents or even orders from either myself, your superior officers, or, even the King himself. And sometimes, these messages are classified and top secret, and can only be told by the ones who need to know. Think of this as a crash course test. If you can keep Carrie's existence a secret until further notice, as well as do a good job with my other test, I will PERSONALLY request Asgore to bring you into the Guard. How about it?"
I swear, the excitement in Paps face was so extreme that I thought he would explode. Then he took a few deep breaths before giving the biggest smile I have ever seen on him, and a thumbs up, before Paps said, "YOU HAVE YOURSELF A DEAL, UNDYNE! NOW, WHAT WAS THE SECOND TEST YOU HAD IN MIND?"
Undyne turned to me and Carrie before saying, "The punks here admitted to how strong you are during your FIGHT, and little miss Sunshine here actually gave me a very good idea. How do you feel about training new recruits, Paps?"
Paps gave Undyne a curious expression and he asked, "TRAINING OTHERS, UNDYNE?"
Undyne smirked as she said, "Yeah, it actually fits you perfectly. I know you hate violence, Paps. Don't give me that look." Undyne said as Paps gave her a look of surprise. "Paps, we've been friends since you were as tall as your brother, I KNOW you don't really like fighting. Or, at the very least, you don't like to hurt people. You're incredibly strong, and you would be an excellent solider, but you don't like violence. It's one of the reasons why I was a little hesitant to enlist you. The Guard is not child's play, Paps. It requires you to be tough, and for you to use force if the time calls for it."
"BUT UNDYNE. I CAN BE TOUGH WHEN THE TIME CALLS FOR IT!" Paps said in defense of himself. "PLUS, I CAN USE FORCE WHEN THE SITUATION CALLS FOR IT!"
I watched as Undyne nodded in agreement as she said, "I never said you couldn't, Paps. But, you're too pure of heart to have the need to hurt others. And trust me, when things get a little, violent, in the more densely populated areas of Snowdin and Waterfall, you'll have to use excessive force. Do you get what I'm getting at?" Undyne asked in a soft voice.
Papyrus nodded, then he asked, "Does that mean, that I was never going to join the guard, Undyne?"
I saw the teardrop begin to form in Paps eyes as he began to realize that his dream might have been made impossible, and Undyne knew that this was really important as she closed her eye and said, "Look." She then opened her eye and looked over to Paps as she said, "I never wanted to say anything because I knew how important this was to you. And it's not like I never thought about what you would be able to do. You're not that excessive in combat that most cadets are, Paps. However, from our repeated training sessions, there is one thing I know you're exceptionally good at. Blocking. You're a natural Defensive fighter."
As we were listening, I was amazed. He was better at blocking than he was at fighting? I looked over to Undyne and asked, "Really? Paps is better at defense then offense?"
Undyne nodded, then she said, "Yeah, as a matter of fact, he is. Paps, what I want you to do is teach. I'm going to bring the Punks over to Hotland, and when I get back, I'll get one of the new recruits, and have you train them, how does that sound, Paps?" Paps, who stopped forming tears, began nodding enthusiastically.
Paps nodded and said, "YOU GOT IT, UNDYNE! I'LL DO YOU PROUD!"
Undyne couldn't help but to smile at this as she lightly punched him on the shoulder, then she said, "Just to let you know, that, if, and I do mean IF, you get orders to be on the front line, you have to be wary. Not everyone is going to be as nice as the sweetheart over there."
Undyne pointed to me and I asked in confusion, "Sweetheart?"
Undyne smirked as she said, "C'mon, Punk. With your goody two-shoes personality, and your never-ending desire to be nice to literally EVERYONE you meet. It's hard NOT to call you a sweetheart. I mean, look. I was trying to KILL you, yet you won me over, right."
I hated to admit it, but she was technically telling the truth about that. That was when Paps spoke again. "I'm not as foolish as many of you probably think." We all looked at Paps when he spoke, surprised that he said that. "Just as you said, Undyne, I just don't like violence. I think it's pointless and leads to unnecessary pain and suffering. That's why, even though he seems dangerous, I know Flowey can be helped."
Carrie looked at Paps in surprise as she asked, "What do you mean, 'helped' Paps?"
Paps smile started to fade as he said, "Flowey's, not like other Monsters. I don't know how different he is myself, but I can tell that there is something wrong with him. I remember the first time I had met him. It was down by the river, where the River Person parks his boat here in Snowdin. And he was crying."
What? Flowey? Crying? Me and Carrie were taken by surprise at this. That was when Paps said, "I had asked him what was wrong, and he said that he was lonely. That he tried to go to people who would help him feel something. It seems as though he had somehow lost his ability to feel love and compassion. So, I took him in my arms, and I brought him to my house. I asked if he wanted anything to drink, and he asked for Golden Flowey Tea. I just so happened to have the ingredients for it, and I prepared him and myself a cup of tea."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, and, from the looks of Undyne and Carrie, they couldn't either. To think, that the same flower who had tried to kill me when I first fell down here, was crying. And he couldn't feel love or compassion? What else is there to Flowey?
Then, Paps continued. "After that, it had seemed that Flowey had finally calmed down, and he said that he was feeling lost, and empty. Like he didn't belong anywhere. That, he had tried taking his own life, but, he couldn't do it. He was too scared to die." What? Flowey, had tried to kill himself? Me and Carrie looked at each other in surprise. Then Paps shook his head and he said, "After that, I had offered my friendship to young Flowey, and, while he may be rude, and sometimes has angry outbursts, I can tell, he really likes our friendship! Trust me! The Great Papyrus knows these things!"
At first it was silent, then I heard Carrie think to me, 'I want to say that Paps is being a naïve idiot. But, he is proving to be way more aware of things then we first gave him credit for. And while the Flowey that Paps knows and the one we know maybe the same one, it is clear that SOMETHING is off about that golden flower.'
That was when Paps waved at us and said, "Well, I shouldn't keep you ladies distracted. I must go and check on the bridge. Make sure no one vandalized it. GOODBYE, FRISK. UNDYNE I'LL SEE YOU LATER. CARRIE, NICE MEETING YOU."
We all waved at the energetic skeleton as he made his way towards bridge, after dismissing Lucy. Then I turned towards Undyne and said, "Well, he seems excited, huh?"
Undyne smirked as she said, "Yeah, so it may seem. C'mon, let's go. We're wasting time around here."
We all nodded then we once more headed off. Then, as we were walking, I suddenly realized something. "By the way." I asked as I looked up at Undyne, whatever happened to Cedric?"
Undyne chuckled as she said, "Well, when he got home, his folks grounded him. He was in big trouble for leaving Snowdin when he did. You won't be seeing him for a while. At least, not until his folks unground him." I nodded, knowing that he WAS a little reckless during our trip through Waterfall.
As we progressed through Snowdin Forest, we saw many of the Dog Squad, as Undyne called them. Doggo was standing by his Guard post, keeping an eye out for moving things, Lesser Dog literally bumped into me, and I couldn't help but to start to pet him uncontrollably, and literally had to be pulled off of him by Undyne. I blushed in embarrassment as she said, "You have a serious problem, Frisk."
I rubbed my head and blushed in embarrassment as I said, "Sorry, Undyne. I guess I'm a dog person. I mean, I see a cute dog, and I have the sudden urge to pet them. I mean, I'm fairly certain that I would have died from cuteness overload in the Temmie Village if Bob didn't ask the Temmies to get off me."
Undyne simply shook her head as we continued onwards, passing by Dogamy and Dogaressa, who Undyne caught petting each other, but they stood at attention when Undyne came through, both of whom were blushing in embarrassment at being caught like that. But Undyne silently shook her head and we moved on from them. We were almost to Snowdin Town when we ran into Greater Dog.
He nodded towards Undyne, then he looked at me and smiled brightly before kneeling down before me, and bowing his head. I looked at Undyne with pleading eyes and she sighed and simply said, "Just don't go overboard, Punk."
I nodded and lightly started petting Greater Dog, after a few pets, Greater Dog gently licked my cheek before he stood up, and turned towards the side before allowing us to proceed.
And finally, after a long walk, we managed to make it back to Snowdin Town. Then I remembered something. "By the way, Undyne. You said you had something to pick up at Grillby's, right?"
Undyne nodded then she said, "Right. See, last week, Grills' jukebox stopped working, and he's been too busy running his bar to get it repaired. So, I figured that, well, I'm on my way to Alphys' place anyway, so I might as well help a friend out."
I thought about it, then I said, "Yeah, that makes sense." It was then, as I was walking, that I accidently bumped into someone, causing both of us to fall into the snow on our butts. "Ow." I said while rubbing my face.
I then heard a young girl's voice say, "Oh, I'm… I'm so-sorry about that."
I looked up and saw a reindeer monster about my height, with a cute button nose, small antlers, blond hair and a snow white dress. I smiled softly as I said, "No, don't be. I wasn't looking where I was going, after all."
That's when I heard Undyne say, "Hey, Noelle. What are you doing here? Out with your father today?"
The reindeer, now known as Noelle, looked up at Undyne and quickly stood up and bowed her head and said, "Oh! Captain Undyne! I didn't see you there!"
Undyne waved her off and asked, "How many times to I have to tell you to drop the formalities, Punk?"
Noelle blushed in embarrassment, then I heard Carrie say, "Huh. There's something familiar about this girl. I mean, I know there's a bunch of Monsters down here, but, why does she give me familiar vibes?"
That was when a deep, scruffy voice say, "Noelle, there you are. What have I told you about wandering off?" We all looked towards the source of the voice, and saw another reindeer about as tall as Undyne, with decently sized antlers, a light red nose, wearing a white long-sleeve shirt, with an ugly, sleeveless Christmas sweater over it, and dark blue jeans and brown boots.
That was when I heard Carrie say, "No way! Rudy?"
I then glanced over to her and thought, 'You know him?'
Carrie nodded as she said, "Yeah. Back before I died. He's actually dad's ex."
I was surprised at this and asked, 'Really? He dated someone before mom?'
Carrie nodded as she said, "Yeah. It was before Dad had met Mom. They had tried to whole dating thing, but soon realized that they weren't meant for each other. Before I died, I had actually attended towards Rudy and Carole's wedding. But, he only looks a few years older than he did before I died. And I never knew he had a kid."
I looked over at Noelle, who seemed to be a little shy, judging from the fact that she was hiding behind Rudy, then I asked, 'Do you think she was only born a few years ago? She doesn't seem all that older than us, after all.'
Then Carrie shrugged her shoulders and said, "It's a possibility. But, Rudy shouldn't look this young. He should at least be almost as wrinkly as Gerson. But, he only looks a little older than the last time I had seen him.'
But, before we could discuss further on what this could mean, we both heard Undyne laugh and say, "Well, Rudy! What a surprise! What are you doing here? Carole got the sisterhood over the house again?"
The male reindeer laughed as he said, "You're still calling her book club a cult, Undyne? I thought you got over that."
Undyne smirked as she went for a handshake with Rudy and said, "Oh, I did. It's just a force of habit at this point."
It was then that Rudy finally took notice of me and then turned to Noelle as he asked, "So, Noelle. You going to introduce me to your new friend?"
Me and Noelle blushed before I stood up. Then I offered my hand and said, "Hi. I'm Frisk Merriweather."
Rudy smiled as he took my hand and said, "Ah, Frisk! So YOU'RE the human that's been the talk of the Underground lately, huh?" I silently nodded my head and Rudy said, "Well, I'm Rudy Holiday. And the girl you bumped into is my daughter."
That was when Noelle offered her hand and said, "Hi. I'm Noelle. Nice to meet you."
That was when I smiled and said, "Hello, Noelle. I'm Frisk, and it's ICE to meet you, too."
Hearing this caused both Noelle and Rudy to burst out laughing at this, I heard Carrie groaned at my bad puns, but Rudy smiled at me and said, "Kid, that was a good one. You've been hanging around Sans, haven't you?"
I nodded then said, "I have, but he hasn't taken effect on my ability to tell bad puns. That's kinda a natural ability of mine."
Rudy laughed as he said, "Well, you're a natural, Frisk." Then he turned towards Undyne and smiled as he said, "I thought the days of you babysitting were over. What happened, Undyne?"
Undyne smirked as she said, "What can I say, Rudolph. Punk won me over. 'Sides. Right now I'm just more or less helping her get to Hotlands, then I'll be heading back here to hang out at the Bro's place."
Rudy then gave Undyne a blank look before asking, "You burned your house down again, didn't you?" Undyne turned away and said nothing, then Rudy laughed and slapped Undyne on the back as he said, "Never change, Undyne. Never change." Then he said, "So, how's Fluffybuns doing?"
Undyne smiled then pointed towards Grillby's bar as she said, "Why don't we let the punks get to know each other while we catch up. It has been at least a month since I last saw you, after all. You wanna help me unhook Grills' jukebox? Figure, I'd bring it to Alphys' and get it all fixed up, right?"
Rudy smiled as he wrapped his arm around Undyne and lightly punched her on the shoulder as he asked, "Why don't you stop trying to find bad excuses to see and talk to that girl, and just ask her out already, Undyne? You're almost as bad as when Fluffybuns and Toriel were still in a healthy relationship."
Me, Noelle and Carrie all watched as Rudy dragged a lightly blushing Undyne into Grillby's. I turned towards Noelle and asked, "So, I'm guessing you live nearby, Noelle?"
Noelle turned her head slightly as she said, "Something like that, Frisk. More like, further down in a lower town. You can actually see one of the houses from the cave where that mysterious door is."
I can tell that she doesn't want to talk about her home, or at the very least, she is nervous around me. Then I asked, "So, what kind of magic can you do, Noelle?"
Noelle looked at me in surprise, before she smiled lightly. Then she said, "Here, let me show you." She then brought her hands together, and positioned them as if she were holding a ball. Then saw as what looked like snowflakes started to form between her hands, and then, from the center of her hands, a small ball of snow started to form, and it kept getting bigger until it completely filled her hands. She then presented the snowball to me and said, "Here, take a look."
I gently grabbed the ball of snow, and was amazed. It was a real snowball. "Interesting." I heard Carrie say to me. "She seemed to have inherited Rudy's snow magic after all."
I lightly threw the snowball in the air and gently catching it. I looked on in amazement at Noelle and said, "I have to say, that's pretty cool Noelle." I then tossed it back to her and she caught it.
While Carrie groaned in annoyance at my bad joke, Noelle softly giggled. Then she said, "Thanks, Frisk. But, I'm nowhere near as good as daddy is."
I looked at her in surprise as I asked, "Really?"
Noelle nodded as she started to throw the snowball in the air as she said, "Yeah, daddy's really amazing at snow magic. But, I only just awakened my magic a few months ago, so I'm just starting out. I'm just starting to get the hang of it now, as a matter of fact."
That made me wonder something. "Just when do Monsters awaken their magical abilities, Noelle? Because, Cedric didn't seem to have his magic yet when we travelled together in Waterfall. Or, at the very least, he never showed me."
Noelle nodded as she let her snowball fall to the ground and said, "Yeah, I guess that is a good question to ask, Frisk. But, to tell you the truth, it's different for each Monster. Daddy says that when a Monster starts to show traits of their magical properties, that they are on their way to start maturity. Depending on the species it could happen anywhere between their tenth to their thirteenth birthday."
I whistled at this, then I said, "That's really cool, Noelle. I didn't know Monsters could awaken their Magic that young."
Noelle smiled as she said, "Yeah, I guess it is really cool, huh." She then turned towards me with a curious smile on her face as she asked, "So, tell me. What's it like on the surface?"
I smiled softly as I said, "Well, I would say that it's a nice place, but, well…" My smile slowly faded as I realized that, the closer I got to meeting Asgore, the closer I got to possibly returning to the surface. Even though I knew that, the chances of me returning are slim to none, that is, if Asgore doesn't just force me to fight him to the death. And then my memories of the surface returned. The townsfolk really were wrong about the monsters, weren't they?
That was when Noelle asked, "Bad experiences up there, Frisk?"
I nodded slightly as I said, "Yeah, something like that. But, right now, the surface ain't really what's on my mind right now."
Noelle nodded in understanding as she said, "Yeah, you have to deal with Asgore, first, huh?"
I nodded as I said, "Yeah. I mean, I would love to just, sit down with him and have some tea and, perhaps, talk to him. Maybe come up with a different way to break the Barrier, but…"
Noelle gently placed her hand on my shoulder as she said, "Hey, listen. Asgore's one of the kindest Monsters down here I'm sure he'll be all for talking and drinking tea. It's pretty much his favorite past time. Heck, he's practically kinder than Papyrus."
I laughed at this and said, "Really? I didn't think anyone could be kinder than Paps."
Noelle smile widened as she asked, "Oh, you're one of the few who he lets call 'Paps' huh?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, he's a really great guy."
Noelle nodded as she said, "Yeah, he really keeps people's spirits up around here."
I looked at her curiously as I asked, "Really?"
Noelle nodded as she said, "Oh, yeah! With his large smile, his energetic personality, and his wacky and goofy personality, he keeps things interesting around here. Plus, his puzzles are really fun."
I nodded at this, as I said, "Yeah, he is pretty funny at times, isn't he? And his puzzles are really good, aren't they?"
That was when Undyne and Rudy returned with Undyne holding a large jukebox in her arms, then she asked, "So, you punks getting along?"
I nodded and said, "Yeah, I guess we're becoming friends, huh, Noelle?"
Noelle smiled lightly, then she said, "Yeah, I guess we are friends, huh."
Rudy laughed lightly as he said, "That's great to hear. Now, c'mon, Noelle. We don't want to keep your mother waiting. You know how she gets when we're late."
Noelle laughed as she said, "Yeah, that wouldn't be very ice, wouldn't it?"
Then me, Noelle, and Rudy all laughed as Undyne and Carrie simply groaned.
After that, Rudy turned to me and said, "Well, it was a pleasure to meet you, young Frisk. May you have a merry time down here. And tell ol' Fluffybuns that Rudolph says 'Hi' for me, okay?"
I laughed as he made a joke out of my name, and I am beginning to think that Rudy and Noelle like Christmas themed jokes, I nodded and we shook hands as I said, "You got yourself a deal, Rudy. Make sure you and Noelle have a holly jolly day, won't you?" Both reindeers laughed at this, I was right about their sense of humor.
I turned towards Noelle and extended my hand and said, "Well, it was nice to meet you, Noelle."
Noelle took my hand and we shook as she said, "It was nice to meet you as well, Frisk. Take care, okay?"
I nodded and we watched as the Holidays walked away. I then turned towards Undyne and asked, "So, I guess it's time for a long walk to Hotlands, huh?"
Undyne smiled at me as she said, "For me, maybe. But for you, Punk, you're going to be taking the River Person's boat ride."
Carrie looked surprised at this, then I asked, "Why are you letting me go on my own, Undyne?"
Undyne smirked as she asked, "You really want me to babysit you and hold your hand this whole journey?"
I thought about this, then I nodded and said, "Yeah, I guess that makes sense, Undyne. I mean, I wouldn't have mind it."
She nodded then she said, "Oh, I know you wouldn't. Another reason why I'm not coming with you is because I don't want to distract Alphys when you meet her."
I nodded, remembering that Undyne said that Alphys was slightly intimidated by Undyne. Then I asked, "So, where's the River Person?"
Undyne waved her hand as she said, "C'mon, follow me."
And so, me and Carrie followed after Undyne, as we were walking, Carrie said, "I can't believe that Rudy still looks so young. But, why does he? He should be as wrinkly as Gerson at the very least. Could it be…?"
I followed closely after Undyne, but I still asked, 'Do you have an idea as to your weird question, dear?'
Carrie nodded slightly as she said, "I do. But, it's crazy. I think that, Rudolph Holiday, is a Boss Monster."
My eyes widened at this, I turned to her and thought, 'You really think so?'
Carrie nodded as she said, "It's the only thing that makes sense. I mean, he could also be aging slowly, but, the fact that he only looks a few years older than the last time I had seen him, could only mean that…"
'He is a Boss Monster.' I finished. I mean, could it be possible that there were more families of Boss Monsters living down here? Carrie DID say that Mom, Asgore, and Asriel were the only KNOWN Boss Monsters. So, could it be possible?
But, before we were able to continue this discussion, Undyne said, "Well, here we are."
I looked up, and I saw a cloaked figure standing on a wooden boat. He…? She…? They turned towards us and said, "Tra la la. I am the riverman. Or am I the riverwomen…? It doesn't really matter. I love to ride in my boat. Would you care to join me?" I nodded and the Riverperson asked, "Where will we go today?"
I smiled and asked, "Can I get a ride to Hotland?"
The Riverperson nodded underneath their cloak, then they turned towards Undyne and asked, "Would you care to join me, Undyne?"
Undyne shook her head and said, "Not today. I got to take the long way because of Grill's jukebox. 'Sides, the Punk deserves at least one ride alone with you."
The Riverperson nodded as they said, "Then we're off."
I smiled as I got on the boat and turned towards Undyne and said, "Well, I guess this is goodbye for now, huh?"
Undyne smiled as she said, "Yeah, but remember. I'll be hanging around the Bro's house for now on. Oh!" He then remembered something, "Here!" She then took out a piece of paper and a pencil from out of nowhere and started writing something down.
She then handed me the piece of paper and I asked, "What's this, Undyne?"
She smiled as she said, "My phone number. That way, if you need me, or you want to talk, you can give me a call. And don't worry, I'll get your number from Paps." She then waved her hand as she started walking away. "Take care, punk. And tell Alphys I said I'll be visiting later."
I nodded and put the paper in my satchel, planning on adding her number later, the I smiled and waved back as I said, "Catch you later, Undyne!"
Undyne waved back as she said, "Catch you later. Stay out of trouble, would ya?" And then, she left.
And so, the Riverperson began peddling towards Hotland, and me and Carrie were smiling. For, now, after all this time, we're finally getting close to the end of our journey. I lightly laughed at this. Carrie looked at me in curiosity and I thought, 'I just realized. We're almost done with our adventure, aren't we? We just have to get through Hotland, and then make our way to your father, and we'll be done.'
Carrie nodded as she said, "Yeah, you've been here for four days now, right? And so much has happened." And she was right. I had been in the Underground for a few days, and yet, so much has happened. Meeting her, mom, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, Cedric, Noelle, Rudy. All these nice and amazing people, and yet, it feels like I was born here. Like I actually BELONG here. It's amazing.
That was when I heard the Riverperson say in a mysterious voice, "Tra la la. The angle is coming… Tra la la." They then looked at me, and I felt as though they knew something.
Me and Carrie's eyes widened at this, and we looked at each other in surprise, but before we could say anything to each other, we had arrived at our destination. I had gotten off and turned towards the Riverperson who said, "Come again some time. Tra la la."
I nervously nodded before waving them goodbye. We then found ourselves in a crossroads, where the top pathway was guarded by two Royal Guard members wearing armor similar to Undyne's, except their helmets kinda reminded me of a bunny and a dragon. There were also two pathways on the left and right of us. I'm guessing that the left pathway leads to where Undyne chased me until she passed out.
That was when Carrie pointed towards the right pathway and said, "Over there. That's the Head Lab. That's probably where this Dr. Alphys that we keep hearing about is right now."
I nodded, then I noticed the SAVE point ahead of me and I touched it, and I felt a warm sensation flow through me as Carrie said, "Seeing such a strange laboratory in a place like this… You're filled with determination."
I smiled and nodded, then I thought, 'Well, time to finally meet this Alphys that everyone keeps telling me about.'
Carrie nodded then she asked, "So, are you going to be asking about the Fallen Down Monsters as well?"
I silently nodded, knowing that I had made a promise to Shyren to do so, and entered the lab. When we first entered the lab, it was dark, not a single light was on, and it was hard to see. That was when Carrie grabbed my hand and said, "Here, follow me. There's a light switch on the other side of the lab. Just follow my lead."
I nodded and said, "Just go slowly."
Carrie nodded, and we started walking down the hallway, but then we heard something like a door opening, and the patting of footsteps, then a women's voice said, "Entry Number 74021. The human has been seen picking up the lost items of the other humans the past few days. But other than that, they seem to be taking their time getting here." She then flipped a switch near her door, showing me that she seemed to be a short, yellow lizard or dinosaur Monster. She was a bit taller than myself, wearing a white lab coat and glasses, obviously this was Dr. Alphys that we've been hearing about, before writing something down while saying, "It seems her kindness and compassion have started to win over others. Maybe, just maybe she…" She then started mumbling to herself.
That was when she turned to me, and her eyes widened and she quickly put her notepad away and started saying, "Oh. My god." She then grabbed her head and began spinning around nervously as she said, "I didn't expect you to show up this early today! I haven't showered yet, I'm barely dressed, this place is all messy and…" She then proceeded to panic.
That was when I raised my hands and said, "Hey, hey, calm down, Alphys, right? Relax. Okay? Take it easy, okay?" I said in a calm tone of voice, not wanting her to freak out any more than she already is.
Then she stopped to face me and take a few deep breaths and said, "Ummm. Sorry about that." I shook my head and smiled at her, that allowed her to focus a bit more before saying, "H-h-hiya."
I waved and said, "Hello." Then I smiled and said, "I would have brought the pizza, but the toppings you sent me couldn't be translated by my phone."
Alphys smiled nervously and blushed in embarrassment at that, then she shook her head and said, "Er, sorry about that. I must have miss clicked a number or two. Anyways. Yeah. I'm Dr. Alphys. I'm Asgore's royal scientist! B-b-but, ahhh," She said, her eyes glancing back and forth nervously as she continued. "I'm not one of the 'bad guys'!" She then smiled softly as she said, "Actually, since you stepped out of the Ruins, I've, um…"
She seemed to have been nervous about admitting that she had been watching me. I turned towards the large monitors behind me and noticed that there were cameras locked onto me, then I pointed at them and asked, "You've been watching me, huh?"
She nodded awkwardly as she said, "Ye-yeah. I saw that you noticed the camera by the bushes outside the gates. I was just 'observing' your journey through my console. You know, making sure that there was no tr-trouble, you know?"
Carrie nodded at this as she said, "Yeah, that makes sense, I guess. Especially seeing what happened a few times. Especially with Triston, it would be a good idea to make sure similar situations like that don't happen."
Alphys, unaware of Carrie then brushed her lab coat before saying, "Your fights… Your friendships… Everything!"
"I hate to say it, but that's creepy. I hope she hadn't seen anything about me. Actually… Could she see me? So far, only those that seem to actually know me, can eventually see me. And Bob, with 'permission' for whatever reason. And Paps, for a reason I can't think of. Maybe because he's the son of Gaster. But, can Sans see me?" Carrie said to herself.
Alphys then said, "I was originally going to stop you, but…" She then blushed lightly as she said, "Watching someone on a screen really makes you route for them." She then focused her eyes back on me before saying, "S-so, ahhh, now I want to help you!"
I smiled at this, as I said, "Great. I'd be happy to have some help."
Then Alphys got this confident look as she said, "Using my knowledge, I can easily guide you through Hotland! I know a way right to Asgore's castle, no problem!"
That was when I heard Carrie say, "That's convenient. Way too convenient. Something doesn't sit right with this."
'C'mon, Carrie. I know it may seem a bit, suspicious, but what's the worst that could happen?' I asked, trying to get Carrie to lighten up a bit.
Carrie folded her arms and said, "A lot. And, I don't know what it is, but, do you think she knows about me?"
I didn't know how to answer her, but before anything could go on, Alphys once more said, "Well, actually, umm, there's just a tiny issue." She said as she held up her hand and brought her fingers closely together as she said, "A long time ago, I made a robot named Mettaton."
That was when Carrie asked, "She's the one who built Mettaton?" Clearly she was surprised at this, and so was I, as a matter of fact.
I nodded and said, "I've heard about Mettaton from Shyren. By the way, I have a question to ask of you. It's about her sister and Aaron's brother."
Hearing that caused Alphys to flinch slightly as she quickly said, "Er, yeah. I guess I shouldn't be surprised you'd hear about him. He's quite popular. See, originally, I built him to be an entertainment robot. Uh, you know, like a robotic TV star or something." She was obviously ignoring my question. She seemed to know just what I was going to ask and changed the subject.
I nodded at this as I said, "Yeah, I get that. Give the people down here something to distract them from being trapped, right?" I decided not to push.
Alphys nodded as she said, "R-right you are, human."
I smiled softly and said, "Please, call me Frisk."
Alphys blushed a little at this as she said, "Right, Frisk. Anyways, recently, before your arrival, I decided to make him a bit more useful."
I glanced over to Carrie who said, "I don't like the sound of this."
Alphys blushed and looked over to her right as she awkwardly said, "Yo-you kn-know, just some small practical adjustments. Like, um…" The tension in the room was getting so thick you could cut it with a knife. Then Alphys began sweating nervously as she said, "Anti…" She took a noticeable gulp before pulling at her lab coat collar and saying, "anti-human combat features?"
My eyes widened in shock at hearing this and asked, "What!? Why!?"
Then Alphys waved her hands in front of her defensively as she said, "Of c-course, when I saw you were coming, I immediately decided…" She took a deep breath before saying, "I have to remove those features!" Alphys then started playing with her hands nervously as she said, "Unfortunately, I may have made a teensy mistake while doing so."
I Looked up at her and asked, "Alphys, what did you do?"
Alphys began sweating even worse than she was before she said, "Um… I think I made a slight mistake in the coding. And instead of turning off the human killing functions, I may have, accidently, made them…worse? He he…?" She really looked apologetic for that. She then said, "Now he's an unstoppable killing machine with a thirst for human blood? Ehehehehe…" Alphys said as she nervously laughed.
Both me and Carrie's eyes widened in shock at this, then we both screamed out, "WHAT!?"
That was when Alphys glanced to the side as she said, "Heh. But, umm, hopefully we won't run into him!"
That was when something loud was heard, almost like a large piece of metal banging against the wall. And it sounded like, it was coming from my left. That was when Alphys' face went blank and she made a questing noise. "…?" That was when another bang was heard. This time louder than the last. "Did you hear something?" Alphys asked me.
I nodded and looked over to where I was heard the noise, and said, "Yeah, it sounded like it was coming from that wall." I pointed to where I heard the sound.
Carrie then put a hand on my shoulder before saying, "I've got a bad feeling about this, Frisky."
I nodded, knowing that something was coming. Something either big, or loud. Probably both.
And that something did come. After several more loud bangs, I saw cracks start forming on Alphys' wall and said, "Uh, Alphys…?"
Then, the banging stopped, but the wall now looked like it was going to give way at any moment. Then Alphys paled as she said, "Oh no."
And then a loud boom was heard as the wall gave way and the lights went out. Then a loud, robotic voice spoke up. "OHHHH YES! WELCOME, BEAUTIES…" Then a small drumroll was heard as a spotlight was flicked on, revealing a large metallic box, balancing on a single wheel connected to the bottom of the box, two arms expanding out from either side of his body, and a microphone in his right hand. His screen was simply a yellow screen, with a large 'M' flashing in the center. Then he yelled out once more, "…TO TODAY'S QUIZ SHOW!"
Then, out of nowhere, gameshow music started playing, two disco balls descended from the ceiling, with different colored lights covering the entire room, confetti falling from the ceiling, and a large sign that read 'GAME SHOW' came down as well. I was looking around as suddenly, cameras appeared from the wall to my right, and then, Mettaton said, "OH BOY! I CAN ALREADY TELL IT'S GONNA BE A GREAT SHOW!"
I turned to Alphys and asked, "Uh, a game show?"
Alphys sighed sadly as she nervously said, "Pl-please, just go along with it. It'll be b-better if you do."
I cautiously nodded as Mettaton said, "EVERYONE GIVE A BIG HAND FOR OUR WONDERFUL CONTESTANT!" Mettaton then started clapping, and I began getting nervous as another camera came out from behind Mettaton, and was aimed right at me. I then started to get a little nervous, then Mettaton asked, "NEVER PLAYED BEFORE, GORGEOUS?
I shook my head and said, "N-no, sir."
Then Mettaton happily said, "NO PROBLEM! IT'S SIMPLE! THERE'S ONLY ONE RULE."
I could feel Carrie's uncertainly through our connection as she said, "And why do I have a feeling that it's not a very pleasant rule."
That was when Mettaton said, "ANSWER CORRECTLY…" That was when the music was cut, and Mettaton's whole face started flashing red and yellow as he brought his hands in a maniacal laughter stance as he said, "OR YOU DIE!"
That was when me and Carrie yelled out, "WHAT!?"
Then Mettaton turned to Alphys and said, "ALPHYS DEAR."
Alphys nodded sadly as she moved to stand besides Mettaton. Then I watched as my SOUL flashed red and I was brought into a FIGHT.
I decided to use my CHECK ability, and Carrie said, "Mettaton-ATK 30 DEF 255 His metal body renders him invulnerable to attack."
I nodded to myself, and waited for this game to begin. That was when Mettaton said, "RIGHT! LET'S START WITH AN EASY ONE! WHAT'S THE PRIZE FOR ANSERING CORRECTLY?"
It was then, that four answers appeared on Mettaton's body. A) Money. B) Mercy. C) New car. Or D) More questions. Then a timer appeared and started counting down from thirty.
I wanted to pick B, simply because I was being hopeful, but then my hand was grabbed by Carrie and she pointed to Alphys and said, "Frisky, wait. Look at Alphys!"
I did and realized that she was making something with her hands, and I realized what she was doing. 'She's helping me.'
Confident, I turned to Mettaton with a determined expression and said, "D! More questions! Final answer!"
That was when confetti fell from the ceiling once more as Alphys gave me a thumbs up, Mettaton said, "ALRIGHT! SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOT IT!"
That was when I heard Carrie say, "The 'Quiz Show' continues. At least we know that Alphys will be there to help us if the questions become too hard." I nodded to myself as I waited for what was next.
I didn't know what else to do, so, I instead, just tried to SPARE him. There was no other option for me. That was when Mettaton said, "HERE'S YOUR TERRIFIC PRIZE! WHAT'S THE KINGS FULL NAME?"
I sighed to myself in relief. 'Thank goodness. Another easy one.' the I watched as four more questions appeared. A) Lord Fluffybuns. Me and Carrie laughed at this one. B) Fuzzy Pushover. I think Paps would end up calling him that at least one. Then there was C) Asgore Dreemurr, the correct answer. Then we had D) Dr. Friendship. Imagine people calling you Dr. Friendship? That would be… Actually, with how I am, I wouldn't be surprised if people started calling me that.
I shook my head slightly as I didn't even need Alphys help with this and said, "C! King Asgore Dreemurr! Final Answer!"
That was when more confetti fell from the ceiling and Alphys once more gave me a thumbs up, and Mettaton spoke, "CORRECT! WHAT A TERRIFIC ANSWER!"
Once more I used my SPARE option, because there was nothing more I could do right now. That was when Mettaton said, "ENOUGH ABOUT YOU, DARLING. LET'S TALK ABOUT ME!"
I heard Carrie scoff a little bit, as she said, "A little egotistical, ain't he?"
Then Mettaton pretended to clear his throat as he asked, "WHAT ARE ROBOTS MADE OF?"
Once more, four answers appeared A) Hopes & Dreams. I highly doubt that was the right answer. B) Metal & Magic. That seemed more likely. C) Snips & Snails. Uh, I don't think so. I don't even know what a 'Snip' is. Or D) Sugar & Spice. What the hell, I can clearly see that he's not a Power Puff Girl, so, not that. He's more of a Rowdy Ruff Boy, than a Power Puff Girl.
But, by process of elimination, I knew the answer. So, I smiled as I said, "B! Metal and Magic! Final answer!"
Then Mettaton cheered and the rinse and repeat of confetti and thumbs up from Alphys, then Mettaton, in a faked impressed voice, asked, "TOO EASY FOR YOU, HUH?"
That was when Carrie said, "Careful, dear. I get the feeling that he's going to be asking you harder questions. Plus, if he does have human killing tendencies now, he might try asking you questions that are far harder or even rigged against you."
I once more nodded as I pressed my SPARE button, and waited for the next question from Mettaton.
Then the large robot said, "HERE'S ANOTHER EASY ONE FOR YOU!"
It appears that he has paused for that obvious dramatic tension, then as he spoke, I could feel the color drain from my face. "TWO TRAINS, TRAIN A AND TRAIN B, SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPART STATION A AND STATION B. STATION A AND STATION B ARE 252.5 MILES APART FROM EACH OTHER. TRAIN A IS MOVING 124.7 MPH TOWARDS STATION B, AND TRAIN B IS MOVING AT 253.5 MPH TOWARDS STATION A. IF BOTH TRAINS DEPARTED AT 10:00 AM AND IT IS NOW 10:08, HOW MUCH LONGER UNTIL BOTH TRAINS PASS EACH OTHER?"
I wasn't even paying attention to the answers that were appearing on Mettaton's face, as I was completely lost at this. And, from the looks of Carrie, she was in the same boat. Deciding to trust in Alphys, I glanced over her, who was thinking about the question, then she made a shape with her hands, and I smiled in appreciation.
I took a deep breath, relieved that I had her help this them. I then turned towards Mettaton and said, "D! 32.058 minutes! Final answer!"
"WONDERFUL! I'M ASTOUNDED, FOLKS!" Mettaton yelled out to the cameras.
I glanced over to Alphys and mouthed, "Thank you."
Alphys smiled as she nodded silently before mouthing, "You're welcome."
Then Mettaton focused once more on me and I chose to try to spare him again. Meanwhile, Carrie was starting to scratch her chin for some reason, but I chose to focus on the next question.
That was when Mettaton said, "DON'T 'COUNT' ON YOUR VICTORY…" Mettaton then pulled out a jar of flies from his head and he asked, "HOW MANY FLIES ARE IN THIS JAR?"
Continuing to trust Alphys, I glanced over to her, and saw the answer she was giving me, and I smiled and said, "A! 54 flies! Final answer!"
With that, more cheering, more confetti, and more thumbs ups from Alphys, and the show was moving onwards. Meanwhile, Mettaton had his hands in the air as he said, "CORRECT! YOU'RE SO LUCKY TODAY!"
Then I heard Carrie whisper to herself, "That, or every question has already been planned out."
I wanted to ask what she had meant by that, but, I needed to focus on the next question. So, I quickly spared Mettaton, and he brought out the next question. He then said, "LET'S PLAY A MEMORY GAME." Then a fourth of a picture of a Froggit appeared, and then the different answers appeared.
Then I heard Carrie say, "Frisky, something seems off about this question…"
But, I didn't answer her, and instead, without even thinking, I said, "A! Froggit! Final Answer!"
But when I gave the answer, I got zapped, hard, as Mettaton said, "BOY, THAT'S EMBARRASSING, HUH?" But he hardly sounded sorry.
I fell to my knees, when I weakly looked up, I saw that it wasn't a Froggit, but Mettaton wearing a Froggit shirt. "Shit! Frisky, your HP was just dropped down to 8.5! That bastard! That question was rigged."
I looked to my right, and saw that Alphys had her hands covering her face, looking worried. I slowly stood up as I said, "I-I'm fine. Honest."
Both girls looked at me in concern, but, I now know that I can't trust everything that I see. I slowly stood back up, and placed my hand on the SPARE button, and got ready for the next question. "Bring it on, Mettaton. I'm not out of this game just yet."
Mettaton then said, "BUT CAN YOU GET THIS ONE?" I really wish I could tell what he was thinking, or, at the very least, had a face so I knew if he was being genuine, or just being really, really, condescending. "WOULD YOU SMOOCH A GHOST?"
This one took both me and Carrie by surprise. Then I slowly turned to glance at Carrie, and a flirtatious smile appeared on my face as I winked at her, then I noticed that all the answers were the same. I thought it was strange, but it changes nothing. I stood up straight, and with the brightest of smiles, I said, "A! HECK YEAH! Final answer!"
It looked as if Alphys was annoyed by this question, but Mettaton seemed to love my answer, even Carrie was blushing as Mettaton said, "GREAT ANSWER! I LOVE IT!"
Then, before I used my SPARE, Carrie lightly punched my shoulder as she said, "I can't believe you said that!"
As I SPARED Mettaton, I thought, 'Well, it's not like it isn't true, you know.'
Carrie sighed as she rubbed her head and said, "Honestly, I really SHOULD have seen it coming when that question was asked. I really should have. I shouldn't be surprised, and yet, I still am." I couldn't help the light chuckle after hearing that, I really couldn't.
That was when Mettaton had spoken up. "HERE'S A SIMPLE ONE. HOW MANY LETTERS IN THE NAME METTATON?"
I was about to say that none of the answers were correct, until the 'N' at the end of his name began to duplicate and that's not mentioning the fact that each choices numbers kept changing rapidly. Okay, now he's obviously cheating. 'Looks like you were right about him asking trick questions, Carrie.'
Carrie nodded in agreement as she said, "I know. Now he's going to try killing you with trick questions."
I nodded in agreement, then I glanced towards Alphys, who seemed to be willing to help me, then made a letter in her hand and mouthed a number. I smiled, then looking back over to Mettaton, I said, "C! 29! Final answer!"
Mettaton then cheered as he said, "OF COURSE THAT WAS EASY FOR YOU!"
Then, just before I continued this game show, I heard Carrie say, "Something's wrong."
I glanced over to her and thought, 'What? Well, besides the fact that he rigged that question.'
Then Carrie responded with, "Think about it, Frisky. Each of these questions, Alphys was able to know the answer of each and every last one of them."
'Yeah, well, it just could be that she's really smart, you know?' I thought to her, trying to defend Alphys, who seems to be really trying to help me out of this mess.
Then Carrie shook her head before saying, "I'm not denying that she's smart. I'm just saying that, this whole thing feels, off."
That was when Mettaton said, "TIME TO BREAK OUT THE BIG GUNS! IN THE DATING SIMULATION VIDEO GAME 'MEW MEW KISSY CUTIE' WHAT IS MEW MEW'S FAVORITE FOOD?"
'Mew Mew Kissy Cutesy?' I thought to myself in surprise, yes! An answer that I knew without a doubt! 'Easy as cake!'
That was when Carrie asked, "You know that game?"
I nodded with a large smile and thought, 'Yeah, I do, in fact. It actually got itself a sequel A few years ago, but the sequel left the fanbase more divided then the Star Wars Prequals.'
This confused Carrie as she asked, "Star Wars?"
I smiled lightly before I thought, 'I'll have to show you that if we ever get to the surface.'
But, before Mettaton could give my choices, Alphys quickly raised her hand and started waving it as she cheerfully said, "OH! OH! I KNOW THIS ONE! IT'S SNAIL ICE CREAM!"
'One second. She beat me to it by one second.' I thought to myself in surprise and amusement. But, honestly, I didn't know that there was a fan of that dating simulator down here.
Alphys then started to sprout Mew Mew Kissy Cutey facts at the speed of light. I softly smiled at her, she seems to be a big fan. I mean, I like the game and all, with the exception of its sequel, but I'm not that dedicated to sprout the entire plot of the fourth chapter. It was then that Alphys slowly realized that she had just broke her silence, and was now blushing in embarrassment.
That was when Mettaton started wagging his finger as he said, "ALPHYS. ALPHYS. ALPHYS. YOU AREN'T HELPING THE CONTESTANT, ARE YOU?"
Then Alphys began shaking her head nervously, and me and Carrie began sweating as Mettaton clapped his hands together as said, "OOOOOOH! YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME." That was when Mettaton's voice sounded like he was smirking, as he placed his hands together. Then he turned to her and said, "I'LL ASK A QUESTION… YOU'LL BE SURE TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO!"
Then Alphys began chewing her fingernails. Me and Carrie then looked at one another, wondering what was going to happen next. Then Mettaton asked, "WHO DOES DR. ALPHYS HAVE A CRUSH ON?"
Me and Carrie looked at one another in surprise, then Carrie looked at Alphys as she said, "It looks like I was right. And now, Mettaton has decided to go off script. But, who do you think she has a crush on? Oh, who am I kidding it's obvious."
I nodded and thought, 'It all points to Undyne. She clearly intimidates her, but I wouldn't be surprised if Alphys has been crushing on Undyne. I mean, she told Undyne that Anime was Human history JUST to impress her.'
I saw the answers, and they read, A) Undyne. The one that makes the most sense. B) Asgore. Huh? I don't know how true that is, because I don't know her that well. C) The human. Well, I think she is a sort of fan of me, but I highly doubt she has a crush on me. That would be weird, especially seeing that she's most likely older than me. Or D) I don't know. Now, I could pick this one, it would definitely be a safer choice, but, then I'd be lying.
Deciding to tease Alphys a bit, I smiled and said, "A! Undyne! Final answer!"
This caused Alphys to blush deeply in embarrassment, and I kinda felt bad about that, but Mettaton turned to Alphys and said, "SEE, ALPHYS? I TOLD YOU IT WAS OBVIOUS. EVEN THE HUMAN FIGURED IT OUT."
Mettaton then turned back to me and said, "YES. SHE SCRAWLS HER NAME IN THE MARGENS OF HER NOTES. SHE NAMES PROGRAMMING VARIABLES AFTER HER. SHE EVEN WRITES STORIES OF THEM TOGETHER… SHARING A DOMESTIC LIFE. PROBABILITY OF CRUSH: 101 PERCENT. MARGEN OF ERROR. ONE PERCENT."
Mettaton then turned towards the cameras and said, "WELL WELL WELL. WITH DR. ALPHYS HELPING YOU… THE SHOW HAS NO DRAMATIC TENSION! WE CAN'T GO ON LIKE THIS! BUT. BUT! THIS WAS JUST THE PILOT EPISODE!"
Carrie looked towards Mettaton and asked, "Pilot episode? Oh, man. What's next?"
That was when Mettaton said, almost as if to answer Carrie, "NEXT UP, MORE DRAMA! MORE ROMANCE! MORE BLOODSHED! UNTIL NEXT TIME, DARLINGS…!" He then took a bow before saying compacting his arms and wheel into his body, before blasting off out of the laboratory. And all the cameras returned into the walls, almost as if they never existed.
That was when I realized that that was just televised. And me and Alphys looked at one another, she was blushing. I quickly said, "Oh my god, Alphys! I forgot that…"
Then Alphys interrupted me as she said, "No, no. Don't be. I should have realized that he'd try to embarrass me for interrupting his show like that. It wasn't your fault." She then shook her head and said, "Well, that was certainly something."
Carrie nodded as she said, "You can say that again."
Alphys then looked down at me as she asked, "Are you alright? His attack did seem to hurt, huh?"
I still felt a slight sting in my body, then I said, "It kinda hurt a bit. I guess. I think I'm getting used to being attacked. Besides, he just took me by surprise. That is all."
Alphys then walked over to her fridge and pulled out two packets of what seemed like instant noodles and said, "Here. Consider this an apology for getting you into this mess. One for right now, and another in case you need it."
I nodded, and took one before eating it, and I felt my wounds healing, and my HP returning to normal. Then I gave the empty one to Alphys and put the second one away as I said, "Thanks, Alphys. I feel better now."
Alphys nodded as she went to go throw away the empty packet of noodles as she said, "Don't mention it, Frisk. I'm happy to help."
Then I turned to the exit and said, "Well, it was nice meeting you, Alphys, but, I think it's time I head out." Then I started for the door.
That was when Alphys said, "Wait, wait!"
I turned towards Alphys and asked, "Yes, Alphys? What is it?"
She then ran up to me and said, "Let me give you my ph-phone number! Th-then…m-maybe… If you need help I could…"
I nodded, knowing what she was going to say, and I said, "Yeah, that makes sense. Here."
I then took out my phone and gave it to her as she looked down in surprise at my phone and asked, "Wh…where'd you get that phone!? It's ANCIENT! It doesn't even have texting."
I shrugged lightly as I said, "Well, it was given to me by someone in the Ruins." I wasn't really sure mom wanted people to know where she was. I mean, if UNDYNE didn't know where mom was, and she SERVED under mom and Asgore, then that had to mean that she didn't want anyone knowing where she was.
Then Alphys began walking to her desk as she said, "W-wait here a second, please!" Me and Carrie then watched as she began doing something to my phone at a very rapid speed. It was kinda impressive. Undyne was right. Alphys really was good at what she does.
Then, after about, say, five minutes, Alphys nodded to herself before picking up my phone, and rushing back over to me. Then she said, "Here, I upgraded it for you!"
I looked down at my phone, and saw that it was now a cell phone. What the hell? How could she do that? She didn't upgrade it, she completely recreated it! I looked at my phone and saw that it had a lot of buttons, and it looked more high-tech then ever before. Then Alphys said, "It can do texting, items, it's got a key chain… I even signed you up for the Underground's No. 1 social network! Now we're officially friends! Ehehehe!"
I looked up at Alphys nervously as I asked, "Uh, does it happen to come with instructions, Alphys?"
Alphys' eyes widened as she said, "Oh, yeah! Right. I kinda forgot about that. Here, wait a second!" She then ran back to her desk and started searching for something as she said to herself, "I know I have the original instructions around here somewhere. No, that's the instruction manual to Mew Mew Kissy Cutesy. No, that is a list everything wrong with Kissy Cutesy 2. Nope that's my romance story."
Dang, that girl is really disorganized.
As Alphys looked for the instructions, I looked down at my new phone, and saw that instead of it being a large, brick shaped black phone, it was now more like the cell-phone that I saw Briana carry around, if only a little bit bigger. It was even blue and purple striped. Alphys didn't have to that. I heard Carrie whistle as she said, "Okay, I have to say, Alphys really is pretty fucking smart. I've seen some of Wingdings creations, and that phone is pretty close, if not slightly better than what he made."
That was when we heard Alphys say, "Ah HA! Here it is." She then ran back over to me with a piece of paper and handed it to me. "Here you go! Sorry about that." She said as she handed me the paper.
I took it, and opened it up and said, "Don't worry about it, Alphys." Once I looked down at the instructions, I saw that it was a massive list of things the phone could do. All written in English. I looked up at her in surprise as I asked, "English? I thought monsters had their own written language?"
Alphys blushed as she said, "Well, er, I… I have a, er… Well, you can say that I am very interested in human culture. And after several humans had fallen down, I wanted to learn your language, and, other factors."
I smiled as I happily said, "You also happen to be a fan of Mew Mew Kissy Cutesy."
Alphys' eyes widened as she said, "You're a fan as well?" I nodded with a smile, then she asked, "What's your opinion on the second game?"
I groaned as I threw my hands in the air and said, "A completely waste of potential, destroys ALL Mew Mew's character growths and it got way too dark for my tastes. Seriously! Why did they have to do that to Mew Mew Kissy Cutesy!?"
That was when Alphys threw up her hands and exclaimed, "Finally! Someone understands it! I thought I was the only one who saw how terrible Kissy Cutesy 2 was!"
I laughed and said, "I thought the same thing on the surface. All the other orphans love Kissy Cutesy 2 over 1." Alphys looked at me in surprise as I waved my hand and said, "Please don't mention it. I've been slowly getting over my life on the surface ever since I came down here, alright?"
Then Alphys nodded awkwardly, and she actually seemed adorable, in a dorky kind of way, then she said, "Now, take your time to read the instructions, okay? And please don't misuse any of the functions on the phone. Okay?"
I nodded, and said, "Okay. I promise." She nodded happily, then things went awkwardly silent for a while, then I asked, "By the way. I wanted to ask about Shyra, as well as Aaron's brother…"
Alphys got all nervous at that and quickly said, "I'm going to the bathroom. You go on ahead. Call me if you need me."
Then she was in her bathroom. Me and Carrie looked at one another, then Carrie sarcastically said, "Well, that went well."
I could only nod, then I turned towards the bathroom and said, "Well, I'll be off, Alphys." Then I remembered something. I turned towards her bathroom and said, "Oh! And Undyne will be around some time today. She's got something for you to work on."
That was when we heard Alphys sputter some nonsense. I shook my head as I said, "She's got it bad, doesn't she?"
Carrie nodded then she turned towards the exit and said, "Well, time to finally get through Hotland. This is probably going to be a pain. Especially with Mettaton on your ass now."
I nodded then as we exited I said, "You think you can tell me why you were suspicious of Alphys and Mettaton, Carrie?"
Carrie nodded with a small smile as she said, "Yeah, might as well." And then, we finally entered Hotland.
Thechaosmaster: Well, here it is. My new chapter for the day of love. I hope everyone enjoyed it. This has taken me *Checks the last time I updated* FIVE MONTHS!?
Red: You really like taking your time to write, don't you?
Chaos: Eh, sometimes. I don't like rushing things. Now, before we move onto the reviews, I got some explaining to do, don't I?
Red: Yeah, like, why did you include the Holidays?
Chaos: I was going to start with Paps using the Gaster Blaster, but, everyone already KINDA agrees that Paps has those. So, yeah. I added Deltarune Characters, didn't I? Well, not quite. You guys are aware of the Undertale Clock app, right?
Red: You mean, the thing that tells little details about different things of the Underground?
Chaos: Yes. During one of Asgore's talks, he mentions Rudy, and his daughters. Now, I revealed him and Noelle, and made reference towards his wife, Carole, to keep in theme of the Holidays Christmas naming puns. Rudy as in Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and Noelle as in the First Of Noelle. Note, Dess does exist in my story. But, because I don't know what she looks like, I haven't mentioned her.
Red: Now, why'd you make them Boss Monsters?
Chaos: Really? I think there are more Boss Monsters out there, we just haven't met them yet. Also, if anyone wants to create what they THINK Dess looks like, I MIGHT add her near or at the end. No promises. Also, there will be one more Deltarune character added to the story. But I won't say who. Wonder if anyone can guess who it is?
Red: Now, about Paps and his Gaster Blaster. And about him seeing Chara.
Chaos: Right. Well, you see, at this point, we can all agree that Paps has the ability to use a Gaster Blaster. But, the Annoying Dog prevents us from going against it, and I just really wanted to go into my own, personal, explanation of the Gaster Blasters.
Red: And for why Paps can see Chara?
Chaos: Well, I actually wanted to thank Kamorek for that one. He suspected that Paps was fully aware of her, but just being polite. Now, at the time, I wasn't really planning on that being true, but, the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. But I just couldn't think of how to reveal that Paps could see her. Now, I know, I know. My own rules. But, really, does it matter anymore?
Red: So, shall we do reviews now?
Chaos: Yeah, might as well.
Hieroglyph Pharaoh: I can respect you for not crying at the kids deaths and what not. I tried to make their deaths make sense. And, I hope that you enjoyed Undyne and Toriel's reaction to Chara's big reveal to be up your standards.
Halloween Witch: Well, besides my… er, poor choice of words, I'm glad I kept you at the edge of your seat. And really, I just, have a bad habit of, what's the right word…? Hmm, underplaying my own work. Glad you liked Undyne opening a can of ass whooping onto Toriel. As I have told you before, I don't WANT to hate her, while, yes, she's a hypocrite, I also think that, deep down, she's a good person. She was just, GREATLY, misused. What she really needed, was a good, old fashioned reality check. You would think, after Amanda, Triston, Nathen, Mike, Tiana, and Justin, that she would ACTUALLY be there for Frisk and Chara, but, no.
I wanted to give her the truth. That Asgore didn't fail the Kingdom, she did. She doesn't realize the pain and suffering Asgore had to go through. She had to rip off the band aid, and what Undyne did, was literally force those old wounds to open up again.
As you can see, I had Toriel admit that she made mistakes. And really, that's the first step to growing. Admitting when you made a mistake. Really, Asgore did what he THOUGHT was the right thing to do. But, he quickly realized his mistake after talking with Nathen, and retracted his order for kill on sight of humans, but, no one has ever made it to him, alive except for Nathen, Triston, and Tiana. All of whom had died by his hands.
Now, I will TRY MY HARDEST to use Tori correctly. I won't spoil anything as of yet, but, The True Pacifist Ending will NOT go how it does in cannon, at least, not Tori and Gory's interactions.
Shadow8Phantom: Welcome to the story. Glad you could make it. And, yeah, this story did kinda dragged it's feet, didn't it? But, seeing how I am new to writing Undertale, I blame my inexperience with it for why it's like that. But, I'm glad that you enjoyed how it flows. Yeah, character interactions are actually a specialty of mine, as well as backstories and romance. And yeah, having that the kids actually have a history in the Underground makes them more real. I am really glad you liked Undyne. She's one of, if not my FAVORITE character in the series.
And, yes. Her having control over the Anomaly, and being aware of EACH AND EVERY Load and RESET was a popular fan theory that I actually enjoyed. Hence, why I did it. And yeah, Toriel and Gerson has a connection with Justin, The Snowdin Shop keeper and store owner aka Teressa and Lola has a connection with Amanda, Undyne has a connection with Tiana and Mike. It really expands the Underground greatly.
Now then. What about Nathen and Triston. Well, I'll leave that for future chapters. Also, I hope you got a new keyboard.
Chaos: Okay. That's all the reviews for last chapter. Now, all I have to do is finish Hotland, and we can move onwards to Sans' Judgment, Asgore and Flowey's fight. Note: To those who wish to know, be warned. Flowey's fight, I am going to TRY to make, well, Heh heh. Just be warry of when that comes. Then, well, we'll get there when we get there.
Well, I HOPE everyone enjoys their Valentine's Day gift. From me, to all of you. Remember, to gain love, and NOT LOVE.
CHAOS CONTROL!
