Karen tried to smile but tears pooled in her eyes.

"Ever since my surgery," she said, "I sometimes have sharp, severe pain in my stomach. Dr. Richard says it's normal but it doesn't feel normal."

"I'll give Mitch a call," Trudy said, "I bet he'll have something for it."

Mitch' phone rang. He picked it up when he saw it was Trudy calling.

"Hello?"

He paused.

"I sure do," he said, "I'll bring her a Percocet. Make sure she lays down on the couch. She'll be okay."

Another pause.

"That's nothing to worry about," Mitch assured her, "Women often get that kind of pain after surgery."

"I'll be there in a minute," he said and hung up the phone.

"What's going on," Leland asked.

"That was the bride," Mitch said, "Karen is in a lot of pain."

"I'm coming with you," Leland commented.

He got pale.

"Could this be a return of her cancer," he asked.

"No," Mitch reassured him, "According to her bloodwork the cancer is still gone. She'll be fine."

He knocked on the bridal suite. Trudy let him in.

"Thank you so much," Trudy said, "I'm sorry to bother you on your day off."

"It's not a bother," Mitch said, "You're my friend and your friend is in a crisis. You absolutely did the right thing.

Leland rushed to Karen and took her hand.

"How bad is the pain," Mitch asked, sitting down across from Karen.

"The last time I had PAIN LIKE THIS," Karen said, "Caroline was born."

"Could she be pregnant," Leland asked Mitch in a whisper.

"Honey," Karen said, "I'm not a doctor but I believe that you have to have a Uterus to be pregnant… and Ovaries… and eggs."

"It could be an ectopic pregnancy though," Leland said, "I mean we did… make love less than nine months ago."

"Oh GOD," Karen sobbed.

Mitch looked at Karen's records.

"You also had your fallopian tubes taken out," he reminded her, "You're not losing a child."

He handed her a percocet with a glass of water and a bag of chips.

"Eat the chips first then take the pill," he instructed, "I want you to lay down on the couch after and take a nap. By the time you wake up you'll feel better."

"Thank you," Karen said.

She ate the chips then took the pill. She fell asleep the second her head hit the pillow.
