Hi everyone, so this chapter just focuses on the Webbers, Spencer, etc. And then the next chapter will focus heavily on Millow's wedding and related scenes. Also, this chapter might need a slightly higher rating due to torture. Though it's not too graphic, it's more the suspense of it. Enjoy!
Chapter 30- The Artist or the Medic?
Over the past few weeks, Cameron didn't receive any more threats. He'd hoped that it was just a one-off and because he did what he was told the person would back off. They continued to stay on at Laura and Kevin's while their mom was still in a coma. Aiden still wasn't sleeping well at night and would end up using that time for doing any baking that didn't involve going in the oven. This would keep Cameron and Jake up, since they were downstairs where the kitchen was. Laura ended up telling Aiden he can do small baking when he couldn't sleep if he would do it in his room quietly.
Carolyn and Jeff kept in touch with Laura regularly and would ask if they could visit the boys. Laura didn't want to force them, though she would try to encourage them.
"Absolutely not," Cam said. "I don't want anything to do with them."
Aiden would shake his head. He didn't understand everything, he was just too afraid for the time being.
Jake ended up being the only one who would spend time with them. Their visits were mostly treating him to dinner. But finally, one day, after seeing how much fun Jake was having with them, Aiden agreed to go with them.
Cam wasn't pleased and started to grow angry with Jake. He could understand Aiden who was young and naïve, but Jake should know better.
"I don't like this," Cam said after they left. "As Mom's next of kin, don't I get to put my foot down for stuff like this?"
Laura sighed. "Your mom put you in charge of her medical care. But she left me in charge of you boys years ago. You're over 18, and I'm glad you've chosen to stay with us too, but I am technically Jake and Aiden's guardian until your mom wakes up. If they want to visit your other grandparents, then I will allow it. But if they choose not to, then I won't enforce it. I think it's good for them though."
"You're wrong," Cameron pleaded with her. "Mom wouldn't want this."
Now, Cam wasn't just angry with Jake, but he started growing angry with Laura too. He ended up going to Kelly's to get his mind off things. But before he left, he found another envelope in the bush.
Hello Cameron, it's been a while
I want to play another game
Life is full of choices
Now is the time for you to make your first choice in a series of choices
The artist or the medic?
You can choose only one
I need you to go to the Corinthos Warehouse to make your choice
Come alone
Cam stared at the note for several seconds and tucked it away. He thought these threats were behind him. He headed right to Kelly's where he ran into Spencer and joined him.
Spencer told him that baby Laura was home with Alexis and he needed a break.
Spencer's eyebrows bounced up and down. "So, are the rumours true? You seeing Emma Drake?"
Cam started to blush. "We're hanging out, yeah. But we're just friends. What about you and Trina?"
It was Spencer's turn to blush. "We're just friends too."
Their attention turned to the TV when they heard Anna Devane speaking. "If anyone knows the whereabouts of my granddaughter, Emma Scorpio-Drake," it showed a recent picture of Emma. "Or of Trina Robinson," it flashed to a picture of Trina. "Call the police or the WSB immediately. They went missing in the park yesterday this afternoon and an eyewitness reported someone in a black hood taking them into a vehicle."
Cameron's face paled. "Oh no…."
Spencer stared at Cam, wide-eyed. "Not Trina and Emma…."
Cam's mind went to the note. "I—I gotta go."
"Where are you going?" Spencer asked.
"I just—I gotta deal with something."
Cameron took off and Spencer sat there for a few moments. Then he followed after Cam.

"How are you, Aiden?" Carolyn asked him as they settled at a table at the Metro Court.
Aiden shrugged.
"I hear you love to bake," Carolyn said. "I do a lot of baking myself."
Aiden smiled. "What do you like to bake?"
"Pies are my specialty. But I also make cakes."
"Cakes are my favourite," Aiden said.
"How was your day?" Jeff asked Jake.
Jake shrugged. "It was okay. I had a lot of homework."
"What subject?" Jeff asked.
Jake sighed. "English. It's my worst subject. I do fine at Math, Science, and Art, but I almost failed English last semester."
Ding!
Carolyn checked her phone and her eyes grew wide. "I'm sorry to cut our dinner short, but Lizzie is waking up." She smiled at Jake and Aiden. "Your mom is waking up!"
Jake and Aiden's faces lit up.
GHGHGH
Cameron stared at his phone when he got an alert from the hospital as well as a text from Grandma Laura saying his mom was waking up. He wanted to be there so badly, but he knew he needed to help Emma and Trina first, so he tucked his phone away.
He took a deep breath as he approached the Corinthos Warehouse when someone grabbed his arm.
"What are you doing?" it was Spencer.
Cam glared at him. "You can't be here!"
"What is going on, townie? You were edgy before we even heard about Emma and Trina. What do you know about their disappearance?"
"Nothing."
"This obviously isn't nothing," Spencer said. "Tell me what's going on, or I'm telling the cops you're acting weird."
"No, don't!" Cam sighed. "Okay, fine. I'll tell you. But you have to swear not to tell anyone."
"Okay, fine."
Cam showed him the note. "This is the second threat I got in a month. The first just told me to throw away a picture at the pier. This one says I have to choose between the artist and the medic."
"Between Trina and Emma…." Spencer said barely above a whisper.
"I can't do that!"
"Of course, not. Well, I'm going with you and we'll save both of them."
GHGHGH
"Have either of you boys heard from Cameron?" Laura checked her phone again when they waited outside of Elizabeth's room.
Jake and Aiden shook their heads.
Austin finally stepped out of Elizabeth's room and Jeff and Carolyn stepped closer.
"She's awake," Austin said. "A little groggy, but she's asking to see her boys."
Laura let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Austin. And thank you Jeff and Carolyn for helping with her case."
Jeff and Carolyn hugged.
Laura prodded Jake and Aiden to the door. "Go on and see her, boys. We can visit her after."
GHGHGH
Cameron and Spencer crept into the warehouse. All they could see were shelves and shelves of coffee, but they could hear muffled sounds in the distance.
They made their way to the next room and found Emma and Trina, each bound and gagged over a tanks of liquid. There was two ladders—one on each side of the girls.
Spencer ran to Trina's ladder and Cam to Emma's but stopped when a screen behind them flashed.
Someone in a hood came on the screen with a shadow over their face.
"Hello Cameron," the hood said in a deep robotic voice. "I see you disobeyed my commands and didn't come alone. You'll still have a choice to make though. Your friends are each hanging over a tank of tetrodotoxin, which if touched and inhaled will cause paralysis of the muscles and will lead to respiratory arrest and even death."
Cameron and Spencer stared at each other in horror.
"You will notice that each are tied to a wire which is connected to the other girl's wire. Once you try to pull one girl to safety, the other will drop into the tank. You may try tugging on each girl at the same time but the wires are too strong to release both together. But it is also timed." There was a digital clock on the ceiling counting backwards. "You have five minutes before both drop to their deaths. So, now, let the choice and the game begin." The screen went black.
"Oh my gosh," Spencer said. "What do we do?"
"I—I don't know. We can't just leave them. Let's try to save both of them. Maybe he's trying to scare us into choosing one."
The each climbed the ladder. Spencer reached for Trina, and Emma dropped down an inch.
"No, stop!" Cam said out of breath. "We need to grab them at the same time. Okay, one, two, three!" They grabbed the girls at the same time and tried pulling them towards the ladders but they wouldn't budge.
Cam checked the clock and thirty seconds had already passed.
GHGHGH
Jake and Aiden approached Elizabeth's bed and Aiden was more at ease when he saw the tubing was gone. He ran over and hugged Elizabeth, and Jake kissed her cheek.
"Oh, boys, I'm so happy to see you," she said.
"We're glad you're awake, Mom," Jake said.
"Are you boys okay?"
"Yeah, we've been staying at Grandma Laura's," Jake explained.
"I can't believe it's almost been a month," Elizabeth said. "Are you okay, Aiden?"
"I just missed you," Aiden said. "I'm glad you're okay."
GHGHGH
"We're running out of time," Cam said. "We can't just choose one of them. What do we do?"
"Can we cut the wire?" Spencer pulled out a pocketknife. "Grip Emma tightly while I try cutting."
Cam obeyed, but Spencer couldn't even put a dent in the wires.
Spencer groaned. "It's not working!"
"What's going on?" They whipped around to find Drew standing there, white in the face.
GHGHGH
"Oh, Elizabeth, sweetie." Laura kissed her forehead. "I'm so relieved that you're okay. Your boys missed you so much."
Elizabeth wrapped her arm around Aiden when he sat beside her. "Thank you for taking such good care of my boys. Where's Cameron?"
GHGHGH
"Drew!" Cam shouted. "You gotta help us. He wants us to choose one. If we pull on one the other will drop in the poison. If the time runs out, they'll both drop!"
Drew stared at the clock, then at Emma and Trina.
"Times running out," Spencer yelled.
"Okay, we gotta cover those tanks," Drew thought quickly. "Stay there." He ran into the other room.
"Where is he going?" Spencer asked.
"I don't know," Cam said.
GHGHGH
After Laura took the boys home, Carolyn and Jeff made their way into Elizabeth's room. They approached her cautiously and Elizabeth stared at them.
"What are you doing here?" Elizabeth asked.
"How are you feeling, Lizzie?" Carolyn asked.
"My name is Elizabeth."
"We were very worried about you," Jeff said. "We're so glad that you're okay now."
"You should leave now before I call someone to escort you out."
"I'm sorry you feel that way, Lizzie," Jeff said.
"Elizabeth. You wreaked havoc on everyone's lives. You cheated on Mom more than once. Hayden is living proof! You're the reason Reiko betrayed Finn. The reason I argued with her at the top of those stairs. If you hadn't met her, who knows, she might still be alive. And she and Finn might still be married." She turned to Carolyn. "And I wouldn't have spent years repressing the memory of what happened to her."
"You're right, Elizabeth," Jeff said. "I can't dispute anything you just said. "But you have to know that everything we did was for you."
Elizabeth laughed. "This again. There's nothing more for you to say. All I keep hearing is you did everything for me. But the facts show otherwise. Now go back home to California and leave me and my boys alone!"
Carolyn cleared her throat. "Actually, we've been hired on at GH. We're in the process of moving here."
"What?"
"We're going to spend the rest of our lives making things up to you," Carolyn said. "Even if you'll never understand why we did what we did."
GHGHGH
Spencer and Cameron kept a firm grip on Emma and Trina as the clock hit one minute, when finally, Drew returned carrying a long plank.
"All right, boys, I need your help," he said. "Cameron, you're going to place this directly under Emma. "It's not going to cover the entire top of the tank, so you're going to have to guide her onto it. Meanwhile, Spencer, you're going to help me pull Trina to safety."
He handed Cameron the plank. He very carefully steadied it over the tank. It was longer, but not as wide as the top.
Drew climbed up just below Spencer and they each grabbed onto Trina. "Okay, everyone, on the count of three. "One. Two. Three!"
Drew and Spencer yanked Trina away from the plank and Drew held onto her. At the same time, Emma dropped, but Cam guided her onto the plank.
Just then the clock reached zero and started to ring.
"Now shove Emma with the plank over the edge!" Drew ordered.
Cameron pushed Emma over and she dropped beside the tank, but still hung from the wires. The plank fell to the ground.
Spencer and Cameron cheered. "We did it!"
"All right, Cameron, call the police," Drew said. "Emma and Trina are alive, but we need the proper tools to get them down."
Cam hesitantly brought out his phone. Would the threats continue if the kidnapper found out the police were involved? He chose to listen to Drew and dialed 9-1-1.
