Chapter 29
A Fine Musician
Epsilon, dressed a black long dress and high heels, plays on the piano one night for the audience to hear. Her lovely hands dance around the keys beautifully, making the music sound lovely and relaxing. The crowd is in awe on how well this pig-tailed elf plays. Closing her eyes, her smile as serene as ever, she focuses on the music and how she plays. It brings the crowd into happy tears just listening to her. And then, within about 5 minutes, the music is over and they applaud for her outstanding effort. Epsilon stands up from the stool and curtsies.
After the performance, Epsilon exits the stage, flipping one of her twin tails with confidence. It is then that a female manager with long dark hair tied in a pony-tail, wearing glasses and a female business suit comes running to her.
"Miss! Miss Shiron!" the lady calls.
Epsilon turns around to see the woman looking desperate. "Can I help you?"
"You are magnificent!" the woman says. "My name is Satsuki Kawasaki. And I am the manager of the Musician Industries. I want you to be part of the team to help the business grow!"
"Me? You mean you want my music for your money?" Epsilon asks, gesturing toward herself. She closes her eyes and shakes her head. "No thanks, ma'am. I appreciate the offer, but I have a family to provide for. They are more important than music itself."
"Huh!?" Satsuki cannot believe how smart this elven maiden is. "Ohhh, fine! I can find other fine musicians that are worthy for my company!" With that, she turns to leave, making the twin-tailed elf chuckle to herself.
"I cannot leave Lord Shadow or Alpha-sama behind," she says to herself. "Or…I cannot believe I'm saying this…I can't leave Beta behind either."
If she were to accept the offer, she may go to a far away place to do her music. And she may get taken advantage of as well since it sounds like the company is all big on money and fame. She is not in for that. She has Shadow Garden to look after.
"By the way, I wonder how Beta's doing with her book signing," Epsilon says, putting a finger to her chin.
Since she is finished with her performance, she decides to head back to the palace to see if her "rival" is present. She should be after all that book signing earlier in the afternoon. With that, she makes her way back home in a flash.
**Later**
Beta, still clad in her professional outfit, sighs as she stops writing for a moment. She puts her pen down and clutches her head for a moment. It's been a long day and she wants to clear her mind a bit. She decides to take a walk outside since it's such a beautiful night. Grabbing her shawl, she exits the palace and walks toward the large fountain, where she sits down at the edge. She looks up at the clear night sky where there are stars and the full moon shining above her. She sighs with bliss, seeing the clear skies like this. That is until a certain elf shows up to ruin the mood.
"Well, well, what's this~?" Epsilon says, her cocky behavior showing as always. "Some lonely elf, I see~?"
"I was until you showed up…" Beta tries hard not to strangle this arrogant twin-tailed elf. "What do you want…?"
"I came to see how you were doing, my busty friend~" Epsilon says as she sits down next to the silver haired elf. "How did the book signing go?"
"It went well," Beta answers. "Lots of fans came to see me."
"As expected," Epsilon says. "But as for me, my performance went fabulous! There were more fans than you could ever imagine! The people LOVE me~!" She flips one of her twin-tails. "Ah, yes~! They love my music so much!"
"Good for you…" A vein pops at the side of Beta's head. "And…is that all?"
"Oh, a music manager tried to drag me into her super rich company," Epsilon continues. "I politely turned her down, thankfully."
"Eh? Why?" It gets Beta's attention, much to her surprise.
"Eh, I could tell that she only cared about the money," Epsilon says. "Besides, if I went down that road, I would be separated from Shadow Garden completely."
"Oh…" Beta slowly looks down at the ground. "That's…that's great. I'm very glad you turned her down."
"What's that? Did you say you were glad~?" Epsilon says.
"Well…what can I say?" Beta says as she puts her hands on her lap, looking up at the sky. "A life without you? All of us…including me…would miss you very much. I would be the same if someone would've proposed something to me just for my writing."
Epsilon blushes and plays with one of her twin tails. "I-I see. D-does that mean, uhhh…well…"
"What is it?" Beta asks, looking up at the teal haired elf.
"N-nothing!" Epsilon crosses her arms under her fake breasts and turns away. "Forget I said anything!"
"Hmmm…does it have to do with how I look at your chest?" Beta asks.
"Wha!? O-of course not! Why would you think that!?" Epsilon panics.
Beta gives an elegant giggle. "No worries. Even though you turned down a proposal, I still think you are an awesome musician in general. Everybody in Shadow Garden thinks so."
"Th-thanks…" Epsilon cannot believe her rival has complimented her.
There is a moment of silence when Beta starts to speak again.
"Lovely night, isn't it?" the silver haired elf says as she looks up at the sky to see the moon.
Epsilon does the same and a smile appears on her face. She scoots closer toward the author. "Yeah…it's beautiful…" She puts her hand down to suddenly touch Beta's, surprising both elves.
Both stare at each other wide eyed and then blush, looking down at their hands. None of them want to let go for some reason. Instead, they look back up at the full moon, scooting closer toward each other. It is then that Beta rests her head on Epsilon's shoulder. The twin-tailed elf gasps softly and looks to see the author closing her eyes with a serene smile on her face. As much as she wants to tease her, Epsilon decides not to ruin the moment. She gently intertwines Beta's hand with her own and the two stay like this for about another half hour before they decide it's time to leave.
