Volume 5: Episode 72: Breathe. The Empathy that I Cherish and the Father that I Believe!
In the previous episode of DKR:
Returning back to his quest, Yugi arrived at the castle where he last crossed paths with Sir Dragonaun. Atem was with him as well as the spirits of Yin-Yang Dragon… but so was another, Darkness Yugi. Taunting his good half, the evil half proclaimed that if Yugi desired the power of the Dragon Knight; he must beat him.
Not wasting any time or patience, Yugi entered Dragon Blade mode and fought his evil half who also went into a dark Burst Limit. The two clashed but as Atem theorized, Yugi is fighting aggressively against his darker half; not trying to outthink or out trick him. This worked as Yugi damaged Darkness Yugi badly. However, Yugi then began commenting that this is not like his darker half who has accepted his defeat last time. Already confirming his suspicions by the taunts he made, Yugi revealed his darker half to be Sir Dragonaun.
Revealing himself, the knightly dragon man admitted his reasons to stop Yugi from ever gaining this power for he is too kind, too weak to wield a power that is unfit. Mad as he can only think about Ichigo, Yugi yelled, annoyed and not going to back away now. Huffing at his foolishness, Sir Dragonaun showed his true strength as it surpassed every one of Yugi's attacks and effortless damages the young Dragon Knight over and over while breaking down his beliefs and twisted the purpose of the Dragon Knight to be a conqueror and destroyer of evil and worlds but Yugi refuses angrily.
Letting his words, his mockery towards his bonds, his failure as a knight, unable to reach Kojan or save Ichigo; Yugi lost it and tried to call forth the power of Yin-Yang Dragon but it didn't work. It was then revealed by Sir Dragonaun that Yin-Yang Dragon was his power, one he discarded. Putting an end to Yugi, Sir Dragonaun repelled his Dragonaun Tengoku and fired his own, seemingly killing Yugi. Atem watched in horror, only able to shout for his partner's name as his body fell into the abyss.
Is this the end?
And now the conclusion... last left off in the previous episode:
Darkness, endless darkness is all Yugi can see and feel. It's like he's trapped in a void of nothingness, not hearing or seeing anything but a mutter. It's like someone is calling out to him. The mutters become louder and louder until-
"Yugi!'' His eyes opening up, Yugi awakes to the voice of his grandfather. He blinks, lifting himself up from his bed. He looks around, confirming he's in his room. But… it feels off like he shouldn't be here or something.
The door to his room begins to open up to reveal Yugi's grandfather, poking his head to see his grandson with a smile.
''Jiji!'' Yugi utters out as Sugoroku proclaims, still smiling. ''Ah you're awake! You better get ready for school, young man.''
The old man soon walks out from the room, closing the door in front of him. Yugi is still very confused as he gets off his bed. He walks up to the full body mirror and stares at his reflection. He looks normal, nothing too crazy other than he looks like he was 15 years old again. Yugi rubs his eyes to confirm it and yes, he does look younger than usual.
''Was I always younger?'' He questions, pretty sure he was older? Or was he dreaming? Yugi shakes his head as he goes to the bathroom to clean himself up.
Half an hour later, Yugi walks out from his bedroom wearing his school uniform. He walks downstairs, oddly waiting for someone along with his grandfather but no, it was just the two of them.
''Ready to go?'' His grandfather asks him with a smile. Yugi isn't sure, rather sad to go to school where he's mainly a loner but nods.
''Yea…'' He utters softly about to leave until he spots a strange rectangle package on the floor. He looks at it with such curiosity that he asks his grandfather. ''And that?''
Sugoroku eyes the box and almost forgot about it as he asks him for his help. ''Oh yes, do you mind dropping that in the postal office first?''
Yugi isn't sure but if it means he can dodge his bullies then yea, accepting the request. ''Yea, sure!''
Sugoroku smiles as he hands him the box and Yugi leaves the Kame Shop to the postal office first by train. He eyes the strange box, barely weighting anything in it.
''I wonder what's in the box that Jiji wants me to drop.'' He questions himself, curious what's in it. He even tries shaking the box and barely hears anything but there is a shake. He hums, more curious what is even in it.
''G…get… up...'' Yugi suddenly staggers by a voice call out. He turns around to see a few people but none close to him to say a word. He hums, shrugging it off.
He soon gets off his stop and arrives at the office.
''This is it…'' Yugi mutters as he approaches and then another voice speaks through him. ''P…Please d… don't…''
Yugi startles as he turns around and sees no one.
''Hello?'' He calls out but no response. He rubs his head, muttering puzzled. ''I must be still dreaming.''
He walks forward towards the office until someone calls out to him, this time sounding like a female.''Excuse me?''
Yugi blinks again, thinking he must be imagining. He turns around and blushes red to stare upon a girl with red hair and pigtails. It is a 13 year old Ichigo Momomiya, blushing rather embarrassed.
''Could you help me?'' She asks him humbly. Yugi is speechless by her. She looks so cute and yet it feels like he's met her before.
''Um… y-yea.'' He responds willingly. ''How can I help you?''
Ichigo sighs of relief to hear that as she admits, laughing nervously. ''Haha, honestly… I'm lost.''
''Huh?'' The tricolor head utters puzzled. Ichigo nods blushing as she explains herself. ''My dad wanted me to go somewhere to confirm a house sale and here I am… not sure where I am.''
Yugi hums as he asks her. ''How come he sent you alone?''
She shrugs her shoulders, responding upset. ''Wish I knew. Just a pet project of his.''
Yugi hums and nods, willingly to help her. He ignores the postal office and instead leads her to the address she gave him. Ichigo follows him, really grateful she came across him. Though…
''… Your hair looks ridiculous.'' Ichigo, grinning, proclaims as she's never seen anyone with such hair before. Yugi makes an embarrassing face but she does say something cool. ''It's actually pretty neat.''
''Um… yea…'' Yugi just mutters, blushing red. Ichigo giggles as she asks him. ''Are you 12?''
''15.'' Yugi corrects her. Ichigo staggers back and expresses surprise. ''And small too!''
The tricolor head just just blushes even more embarrassed.
''I'm going to be 14 soon!'' Ichigo tells him with a smile. Yugi sweat drops, thinking she was 15-16 but he was really off.
''Um that's cool.'' He expresses surprise. Ichigo giggles, nodding. She eyes him, not sure why but she then asks him. ''SO… You think I'm cute?''
Yugi sweat drops so heavily that Ichigo even sweat drops to stare at his reaction. She rubs her cheek with a finger as she apologizes, explaining herself. ''Sorry! I want to impress a certain boy…''
She frowns a bit as she then admits to him. ''But he's so handsome and I doubt he'll love me the same way I feel for him.''
Yugi is too shy to admit anything to her but something in him just forced him to tell her. ''… You're really pretty.''
Ichigo startles, blushing redder.
''But I think you're pretty the way you are.'' Yugi then tells her honestly. Ichigo stares at him, blushing warmly before uttering out shyly but smiling. ''T-thank you!''
The tricolor head smiles, never seeing anyone with such a bright smile… and yet he feels depressed for some reason.
''Why do I feel so sad?'' He questions mentally, clenching his free hand over his chest.
As Yugi still leads Ichigo to the address, a sudden shockwave is felt across their bodies and the area. Just then something fast crashes before them, leaving a small crater on impact. The two are knocked off their feet, grunting by the shockwave.
"W-what was that?'' Yugi questions as he gets up and pulls Ichigo up her feet too. The two stare at the small crater as something begins to move down there.
''W-what is-'' Ichigo begins to question, only to be cut off as the figure suddenly vanishes. The two widen their eyes as they turn around, feeling something dash past them. They begin to stagger as they stare upon a shadowy aura, humanoid figure that resembles an armored knight-like dragon man.
The two look stun by the strange figure as it takes on a monstrous pose on all twos, letting out a shrieking dragon-like roar. "RRRRAAAAWWWWRRRR!''
The two stare in horror as its monstrous faze turns towards them, breathing heavily. Yugi is paralyzed with fear by this thing. What is this?
Commercial Break:
Yugi and Ichigo stares in terror upon this monstrous entity, still roaring loudly.
"W-what is that thing?'' Ichigo utters in dismay. Yugi is too shocked to speak up. Soon the creature turns towards the two and lets out a roar again. It leaves Yugi frozen in fear, her legs trembling and too scared to do anything.
This is enough for Ichigo to grab Yugi by the hand and shout. "Come on!''
She starts running as she drags Yugi with her. The entity turns and lets out a roar again. ''RRRAAAWWWRR!''
It then starts chasing after the two. Ichigo makes sharp turns and corners, dragging Yugi from behind. That would help them but the strange being just runs through the walls, tearing them apart with the greatest of ease.
Panicking as she spots an abandoned building, Ichigo runs towards it while still dragging Yugi. The two manage to get inside and hide behind crates and boxes as the being roars, rushing through multiple walls in search for them.
Ichigo sighs of relief while breathing heavily, thinking they were goners.
''T-that actually scared me.'' She utters, placing her hand across her chest. She turns around to look at the tricolor head and she is startled as Yugi has a horrifying expression. His heart is beating loudly, sweating out of pure fear. His hands shake violently, looking down and they refuse to stop shaking. He wants to cry, too scared to move or focus or-
''H-hey!'' Snapping out as his body is shaken around, he looks at Ichigo doing this as she tells him. ''Hold it together, we're okay!''
Yugi blinks, just realizing that they're-
Just then a roar is heard and the wall behind them shatters. The two panic as they run for it as the smoke clears up, red piercing eyes shining before shooting out of the smoke is the dragon-like being.
''STOP CHASING US!'' Ichigo yells as she drags Yugi up the stairs quickly as the being lets out a horrifying roar. The two manage to hide once more, breathing heavily but as quiet as they could.
Yugi can't calm himself, so filled with dread and horror. He struggles to breathe or even remain calm. He groans, speaking telepathically of fear. ''Why do I feel like dying right now?''
He clings on his shirt, terrified as he shivers. Ichigo soon notices his panicking, worrying like he's breaking apart.
''H-hey. A-are you okay?'' She tries asking him, her voice still shaken as she reaches her hand and grabs his shoulder. This doesn't snap him out as Yugi continues panicking, mentally. ''I don't want to die. I don't!''
''Hey.'' Ichigo tries shaking him and he's not responding. Yugi is in too much deep thought, already thinking he's about to die and utters mentally in fear and despair. ''I should have gone to school. I should have been doing more than helping Jiji. I…''
He's about to cry, knowing this is the end for-
''SNAP OUT OF IT!'' Suddenly Yugi is slapped across the face by Ichigo's hand. He staggers backwards, almost stumbling backwards. He is staggered heavily, blushing redder that he's been slapped across the face.
Ichigo breathes before she snaps out and realizes what she's done. She immediately apologizes nervously with a bow. ''S-SORRY! I didn't mean it but I was just…''
She lets out a sigh as she tells him sincerely, looking sad. ''I just don't want you to act like that.''
Yugi rubs the side of his cheek that was slapped as he raises an eyebrow of confusion to what she just said. The red haired girl looks at him, beginning to tell him kindly and gently. ''People… get scared. This is all scary but… Being scared isn't a bad thing. It means you're human.''
He focuses on what she's saying as she asks him with a small smile. ''But you want to help others, right? And you don't want to fail them either.''
This startles Yugi though a bit. No one has ever helped him outside of his grandfather but deep down; he wishes to help others even if he doesn't get anything in return… but… he's afraid and scared.
Ichigo just smiles as she then tells him with a humble, kind tone. ''Well you're letting them down if you doubt or waver yourself.''
She then frowns as she reveals his fear. ''You want to save everyone but I know you're scared to go that far and fail them. Failing… is like a death sentence.''
He stares at her, not sure how to feel but depression, not sure why but it's what he feels right now. He isn't sure what to do as Ichigo holds his other shoulder and then tells him with the warmest smile he's ever seen. ''But you won't fail because you're a kind, heroic person Nya!''
''…'' Yugi is left stunned, dazed by her words but especially her bright smile. She has a look of kindness and hopefulness. He isn't sure how to feel about it but he feels better, like-
''RRRAAAWWWRRRR!'' The two stagger as the wall behind them shatters apart, revealing the dark dragon armored-like humanoid, roaring through its sharp mouth-like face helmet.
Yugi sweats in horror as Ichigo gets in front and proclaims, defending him. ''S-stay back!''
''RRRAAAWWRR!'' The dark figure just roars, flapping its wings rapidly. Ichigo sweats, thinking they're goners.
Yugi watches as his heart is pummeling roughly, not sure what to do but deep in him, in his soul; he can't let anything happen to Ichigo. It's like he must save her with his hardest.
''I…'' Staggering heavily as her words still echo in his mind, Yugi just stares as his hand is still gripping on the package while it shakes on its own.
''I…'' Still muttering mentally; a new sensation courses throughout Yugi's body. Not of fear, but of a desire, of a want… to make sure her smile is always there.
''STAND BACK UP, PARTNER!'' Another yet familiar voice yells out within his mind as Yugi snaps out, suddenly filled with a strong impulse of emotions as he begins to run forward.
Letting out a deep breathe out, calming his nerves; Yugi suddenly runs past Ichigo as he comes charging towards the dragon being. He doesn't care if he dies as he shouts, filled with a strange yet passionate power that his eyes turn red, dragon-like. ''I WANT TO PROTECT THAT SMILE!''
Suddenly the box shines and something rips through the package and flies into Yugi's hand while he thrusts that arm forward. He swings it through the armored figure, revealing the thing to be the Dragon Sword. He breathes heavily as he calms down, turning around as the armored entity howls as the sword cuts right through him, releasing a bright light. It still roared before the light distinguished him into nothing as its energy is absorbed into the sword.
Yugi can't believe it, simply uttering out softly. ''I-It worked…''
He looks at the sword in his hand and soon… he remembers it; the promise of power to protect her smile that day.
''I knew you would remember, Yugi-kun!'' Ichigo's voice speaks rather happily. He startles as he turns around, alarmed yet happy. ''Ichigo-kun!''
As soon as he turns around, he sees no one. She was gone. Not only that but the environment becomes an empty yet peaceful dimension. Yugi also notices his body has changed back to his Age 18 self as well as all of his memories fully restored, yet the Dragon Sword that was in his hand has vanished.
He isn't sure if he should feel irritated to enter a world that everything was completely different or happy that he could see Ichigo again. But he does have questions, asking out loud. ''What is going on? What was all this for?''
''A test from the Dragon Sword.'' Yugi immediately staggers as a voice responds. He turns around and widens his eyes as someone is now with him in this space. Before him is an older man, around or under his 30s, as he wears a black coat and pants, oddly familiar to his school uniform as his hair resembles somewhat his own but shorter with sharp blond hair bangs.
''I guess you could say a test to see if you can still fight.'' The man with similar purple eyes to Yugi says with an upbeat voice. He walks up to Yugi who has a stunned expression, almost like he's staring at a dead man.
''And I'm glad the sword listened to my pleas though.'' He further says, snickering confidently with a strong smile as he looks at the young man in front of him. ''I didn't want to lose my son like this.''
''… Father…?'' Uttering out with watery eyes, Yugi simply says. He's speechless. He's seen photos of him, his Grandfather talking about him so many times but he's never seen him in person. He isn't sure how to feel… but he feels… happy yet it depresses him of joy.
''I-It's um… I… I just-'' Staggering on his own words, Yugi can't even bring himself to speak or say a word without tearing apart. He frowns, saddened in his own hesitation but then Takao speaks up with a soft smile. ''Breathe."
The tricolor head blinks, staring as he smiles. Calming down, Yugi lets in a deep breathes in and then out calmly.
"Good!" Takao expresses as he then suggests to him. "Now you can cry.''
Yugi soon widens his eyes, looking up towards him. Takao still smiles as he tells him honestly yet kindly. ''It's okay for men to cry. It's never a weakness.''
''… Father…'' Tears finally dripping from his eyes, Yugi nods firmly, sobbing out of joy. Takao smiles softly, happy to see his son up close like this. Yugi still sobs, rubbing off the tears on his eyes. He calms down, breathing softly as he looks up at him and asks. ''H-how are you here?''
Takao blinks, realizing he hasn't told him how yet. He laughs nervously, explaining himself. ''I borrowed something from Minato. I'm sure he wouldn't mind it.''
Yugi blinks awkwardly, not sure who this Minato person is. A friend of his father?
''Anyway, I place a piece of my soul in you, at least temporarily to be part of you. And not just mines.'' Takao begins to explain why he's here and not just himself as he further explains, frowning rather upset. ''I agree with your mother that I would handle the part when you attempt to master Burst Limit. Though, I am upset about Sir Dragonaun's actions.''
The tricolor head startles, realizing his father has been watching all that's been going on in the fight. Takao sighs as he then says, annoyed towards the dragon man. ''The old timer really hates trusting on anyone, more so than ever after all he's done to him.''
Yugi can tell that his father knows of Sir Dragonaun and even their relationship is rough. He frowns, recalling how badly that fight left him and all he said to him too.
''… He told me-'' Yugi begins to tell his father but Takao interrupts, revealing to him everything his son just went through. ''I heard. I've been watching you for a long while. I wanted to make sure you were doing well.''
Yugi had a feeling and it depresses him how he failed him. He looks down saddened, expressing in defeat. ''I thought I would be strong enough to keep my promises…''
Reminded by Sir Dragonaun's last words he told him and how he lost it, Yugi utters, beaten from before. ''But I'm no Dragon Knight. I can't… I can't ever be who Sir Dragonaun wants.''
Takao stares at his son's depression. He looks sad; getting all this pressure is overwhelming… but…
''... Mind if I tell you something?'' Yugi lifts his head as Takao walks up to him and smiles brightly as he tells his son. ''I don't either.''
Yugi immediately widens his eyes slightly with his words. Takao still smiles as he informs his son with his hands in his pockets. ''Sir Dragonaun has lost any hope for anyone and everything, including myself. He thinks the same way as Kojan that those with kind hearts or hopeful goals are pointless and weak.''
He then frowns and protests such rubbish ideals. ''But they're wrong because a real knight has dreams and compassion, chivalry to fight beyond the impossibilities of this world and beyond. And a dragon desires to protect their treasure and fight with untamed, passionate roars.''
Yugi stares at him quietly. His father's words are just like his words but more confident in what they mean than waver.
''You're not weak because you care for others; you're stronger because you believe in such things. And Shintaro's daughter wasn't wrong about you being afraid and wanting to grow stronger.'' Takao then tells his son, reminding him of why he fights and his mistakes he must overcome. ''As long as you remember who you are, you will never change. Ever.''
''… And if I fail again?'' Yugi then asks him, still afraid that if he does keep on going; he might fall again. ''If I can't keep my promises; if I can't reach or save anyone?''
Humming for a moment, Takao answers with a small smile. ''Then you stand right back up and try again.''
He pulls his hands out of his pockets as he then asks his son. ''You know why?''
The tricolor head looks at him, about to ask him but immediately he's grabbed by the head and pulled onto his father's chest, comforting him through a hug.
''Because I believe in my son. And you believe in yourself!'' Takao proclaims proudly, still smiling.
Yugi's doubtful thoughts, his despair, his fears; it all washes away by the warm embrace he wanted ever since he was a little kid. He sobs again, happy, as he utters, returning the hug with his own.
''F-Father…'' Yugi mutters, sobbing. Takao smiles as he pulls Yugi away.
''Man, you're such a crybaby.'' Takao proclaims, also sobbing back with a big grin. Yugi begins snickering, agreeing with him.
''You remind me so much of Miyu.'' Yugi startles, eyeing his father who says rather happily. He hums, asking his father. ''Was mom always kind?''
''Miyu-chan…'' Takao begins to say, remembering the woman he fell in love with and the day they first met. He smiles, telling his son with a freak out expression. ''She loved biting me!''
Yugi blinks awkwardly at that statement. Takao coughs worrying as he does say. ''But yes, she was a kind, compassionate but prideful woman. She would never let those who bring injustice to do as they please.''
Takao then says, winking as he gives himself a thumb up. ''And I'm courageous, never letting anything break me and find the strength to always overcome!''
''Passionate, right?'' Yugi asks him with a smile with Takao smirking, responding. ''Yep.''
Yugi giggles, so happy… until he looks sad. He could have known so much of his parents if they were still alive and then he's immediately reminded how they died.
''Father, what happened that day?'' Yugi then asks him, needing to know the events of that night.
''…'' Silent as he sighs, aware he would ask him this one day; Takao begins to tell him. ''Well, he appeared and well-''
''Who killed you and mom?'' Yugi asks once more, needing to be sure. Takao frowns, eyeing his son. He smiles, saying. ''You've asked a lot of people that question.''
Yugi smiles back, needing to. Takao understands him and begins to reveal to him with a firm tone. ''… His name is Sufferess.'' An image of a shadowy silhouette with demonic moth wings pop in Takao's head like a hellish nightmare.
The tricolor head looks at him puzzled. He's never heard this Sufferess before but he does question the verb he used. ''Is? As in-''
Takao nods as he warns him. ''One day… he will return and despair will consume not just the world or the universe but all realities. I'm sure of it.''
Yugi notices his father's right hand is shaking, not of fear but anger. Takao grabs onto that hand, remembering that monster and the silhouette of his monstrous moth wings. But most importantly was his pair of red eyes; filled with cruelty and twisted fun for destruction. That thing is not human or has any shred of kindness or any kind; he's a nightmare come true.
''He's… absolute evil.'' Takao admits with a gulp heard across his throat. Yugi stares surprised, uttering out. ''Absolute evil?''
His father nods, having fought that thing a few times and he would have been dead long ago like all he's killed out of sport.
''You can't reason with him, he has no soul and loves his own voice.'' Takao informs his son traits he must remember about Sufferess. He then remembers his laugh, glaring mad as he continues saying. ''But overall, he is a monster that wants nothing but despair.''
Yugi stares at him, believing him as he can feel the fury building in his father's aura.
''And… you think-'' Yugi begins to ask him but Takao nods, proclaiming with a firm tone. ''I know so….''
He then makes a clueless smile, suggesting. ''Or he's dead and I can be wrong. Not sure.'' As he shrugs his shoulders.
Yugi sweat drops, hoping he is dead.
''Regardless, Ak- Darkus, Sosuke, and heck even that Aigami and Light; they don't compare to him.'' Takao begins to say, becoming serious as he remembers Sufferess' horror but he's not worried as he proclaims. ''But I know you will, if he's alive, put him down and stop any villain because you have Yin and Yang's powers and you are a true Dragon Knight. You fight for those you care for and everyone else; you're a hero and no one can deny that from you.''
Yugi smiles a bit, liking the praising- Darkus? That name confused Yugi. Was he referring to Dark Leader Dragon?
He looks at his son and praises him, believing in him. ''And it's because a Dragon Knight is the hero who's courage and passion will always soar above despair. And a Dragon Knight is not a being who should fear power. The want for power must never be for hatred or want more power; but to be brave and kind to save the ones you want to save, no matter how dark and painful the path takes!''
Yugi is silent by those words, reminded to what he told Ichigo of his fear for more power but his father said the words he can't forget… but also to follow the path of kindness. That's right… he's not like those like Light or Deep Blue; he wants to save others because deep down; he wants to have friends and them to have friends. That's his kindness, something that can never be corrupted or forgotten.
Takao points upward and declares passionately. ''Fly higher than anyone can, believing in everything about yourself!''
Yugi smiles happily, nodding. Takao smiles as he looks back at his hand and panics as it is fading. He puts his hand on his back as he has to give his son his final words to everyone he couldn't bid farewell to.
''Oh right! When you meet an old friend of mines, tell him that I and Miyu died so to keep our hope living on.'' Takao instructs Yugi who blinks but nods. He smirks as he tells his son about that friend. ''He was like my mentor when I began as the Dragon Knight. Fun guy, hates being called a lizard or gecko.''
Yugi nods, trusting his words… Lizard? Gecko? Who is this friend his father is talking about?
''Oh and-'' Takao starts to say, raising his other hand only for Yugi to widen his eyes. Takao blinks and notices his other arm is fading away.
''Crap! Guess he wasn't kidding about this technique being limited.'' He proclaims in worry, hoping to have more time. He sighs, looking at Yugi who looks saddened. He then smiles, apologizing to him. ''Sorry, son, my remaining Draconic is leaving me. I'm going to vanish soon.''
''… T-then you're leaving forever?'' Yugi then asks, sounding crushed. Takao forms a small smiling frown as he nods.
"Well yes.'' He begins to confirm it but then protests. ''But I'll never leave you or your mother.''
Yugi snaps out, staring at him as Takao places his good hand on his son's shoulder. He feels responsible for all that has happened to him but also proud for all of his hard work.
''I'm happy and sad you're carrying all of these responsibilities but I know you're the only one who can do it. After all, you helped the spirit you considered a brother who lost his memories, right?'' Takao expresses, able to see Yugi's journey when he helped the Pharaoh so he knows only he can achieve this goal.
''Prove Sir Dragonaun wrong on who you are and beat him! And you know why I know?'' He then tells Yugi smiling, pointing his good hand's thumb across his heart. ''Right in here told me so.''
Yugi still isn't sure if he is the right person for the job. Takao can see it but he knows he can do this; he believes he can.
''And if you ever waver, then I'll do my best for my soul to touch your back and push you forward so you can fight onward.'' He vows to his son as his body gains a glowing outline, feeling himself fading. He grabs close to Yugi and tells him from the bottom of his heart. ''Believe in yourself because I believe in you, son!''
Yugi stares silently towards his father, not sure how to feel as he nods while his eyes are watery. Takao just smiles, pulling back as he asks him. ''Tell your Grandfather that I'm okay and tell your sister that Mommy and Daddy are happy to see her grow into a talented reporter! And tell Shintaro that he's an awesome father too! And also tell everyone that-''
Suddenly Takao finds himself lifting upward, his body fading into sparks of light. He tries to float back down as he finishes his last request. ''A-and that I miss them too!''
The young tricolor head is silent, slowly smiling on how kind his father is. He can't help but stagger, wanting to say so many things, ask so many things, know so many things but he just-
"Breathe." Yugi blinks, eyeing his floating father. Takao smiles as he explains to him. "Yugi, always breathe. No matter how bad the situation gets, no matter how strong the foe you fight, no matter how overwhelming it becomes; breathe and find enjoyment through the situation. After all..." Snickering as he raises his hand up. "A dragon finds passion through a challenge!"
Yugi stares at him, blushing before he smiles and nods. Takao is suddenly pulled even more upward, fading but does shout with a smile. ''See ya later, son!''
Yugi stares at him and smiles saddeningly, sobbing as his father fades into nothing.
''… Thank you… Father.'' Alone as he sniffs his nose and rubs his eyes with his arm sleeve, Yugi utters looking upward. His eyes are sad yet happy to have finally met him. Thanks to him, maybe… maybe he can keep his promises once again. He does wonder what he meant about the other soul he place in him.
''Do you believe you can wield my true power then?'' Yugi startles, turning his head around and he widens his eyes. He now stares upon the energy dragon of the Dragonaun Tengoku, speaking to him with a feminine voice. Its piercing red eyes gaze upon Yugi's as he stares back with a firm look.
Thanks to Yugi's father, does Yugi finally have the resolve to keep on fighting?

Volume 5's final chapter…
DragonKnight15: I will leave this a secret till then. Next time in Yu-Gi-Oh! Dragon Knight Reborn: Awakened, the Heavenly Dragon! The Roar of the Knight of Dragons!
Please remember to read, enjoy and review. See you all next time in the finale.
Author's Note: This chapter was one I was looking forward to doing because… in canon sense, Yugi was 15-16 and Ichigo was 13 (12 in the Manga but not a fan of it). Even though there's an age gap, does it matter- YES. In real life, maybe an age gap between 3 years but that's it. In Anime, it's the same too. Ask Usagi and Mamoru. SO I guess if you really want to pair them outside of DKR in your own fanfic, a Yugi that's 16 and a Ichigo that's 13 would work! SO YEA?! Anyway, I wanted to do a chapter like this to show that even without powers like in Chapter 1 of Volume 1; Yugi has the courage and heart to protect those he cares for.
Hmm… I wonder what that armored dragon being was though? HMM... Yugi did a thing similar in Volume 4, did he not?
Also happy to finally properly introduction this version of Yugi's father that we never got to know or meet in canon (AND THAT I know is right unlike how wrong I was about the mother). Takao is rather carefree and more confident BUT knows what he wants to do. But overall a good, passionate person, seeing good in others much like Yugi. And who else but him to help- YEA, Naruto did this already with Minato helping Naruto. The only difference to this will be that Takao will not appear again… in the current or future timelines. What do I mean by that? Can't say much. I guess in this case, Takao sounded like he didn't want to die and leave a lot behind him. That was different too, right?
Wonder what Yugi's mother would be like?
However, we also learned an important name of the one that the Dark Lord feared and killed Yugi's parents and who has tormented Sir Dragonaun. Who or what is Sufferess? Well… time will tell. Also the Dark Lord's real name is Darkus? WTF? I'll explain later...
Next time, the finale of Volume 5. Await for the true Dragon Knight to appear.
