Elsa had to pick up her package that was near Hiccup's apartment. It would take days to get delivered to her house, so why not just drive for 2 hours and get it herself?
When she got the package, she was about to head back home, but she received a message from Hiccup. She replied and quickly drove back to Hiccup's apartment. She had no idea how fast she ran upstairs to his apartment and how her legs even functioned.
Friendship is precious.
It makes you act differently.
She punched in the door code 2468, which surprisingly or expectedly hasn't changed. This Hiccup and Jack were undoubtedly friends for a reason.
"How's Astrid?" She hurried into the apartment and ran towards the couch, where Astrid nestled closer to Hiccup. She was basically in his skin; that's how near they were.
Hiccup rubbed her back and ran his fingers through her hair. "She looks better, but I can't tell for sure."
"Move" A simple order was given, and he removed away from Astrid, authorizing Elsa to address the situation which she had for years now.
Elsa sat on the couch and cupped Astrid's cheeks, shifting closer to her. "Hey, girl, are you feeling better now?"
Astrid unhurriedly looked up with dark red eyes. "I'm sorry I hurt you; you were alone, and I-"
"Shh," Elsa halted her talking with a finger and wiped her best friend's tears. "You did nothing wrong. Now close your eyes and slowly count to 10."
Astrid gradually pushed into Elsa's arms, clasping her tighter, and did as was advised. "Ok"
Elsa questioned, and she felt Astrid tremble over her chest. "Better now?"
"Not really"
Elsa pecked her forehead and ensured, "Well, I'm here; don't worry."
Astrid wept and soaked Elsa's shirt. "My head keeps spinning."
"Do you recall when I fractured my leg?"
Astrid drew back and wobbled her head; this was a spontaneous question. "Umm yeah"
Elsa asked, hoping to divert her mind. "You remember who stayed by my side while I was suffering?"
"No" Astrid darted away, ashamed she could not remember anything.
Elsa chuckled and jabbed her chest. "It was you, silly!" She flicked her forehead, rolling her eyes. "And so many more times for 21 years, Astrid. You were constantly there for me in my sorrow and my delight. You've never once hurt me, alright? Don't think like that."
"I'm, regardless, sorry. I didn't realize I left you alone when I ran away."
Elsa inquired, disregarding her unnecessary apology. "I forgot to ask you before, but where did you even go?"
"Berk," Astrid muttered, and Elsa facepalmed; she should've reckoned that's where Astrid took off.
Elsa cracked up, admitting it was so Astrid. "It's been years since we visited Berk. Why did you go there?"
Astrid sat alone, out of the hug from Elsa. "We both lived there for six years, Elsa. I wanted to feel free and at home for a few months." And it was amazing to visit it.
"We could go again but together this time."
The suggestion popped out of nowhere, and Astrid stared at her. "Why?"
Elsa placed a hand over her heart, offended, and gasped, "So you can go, and I can't?"
"Well, no, that's not what I meant," Astrid attempted to clarify. "Of course, we can go; it's just out of nowhere."
It was the girls' secret getaway freedom spot. "We should take Jack and Hiccup there."
Astrid deadpanned. "But it's our place!" She huffed and crossed her arms.
Elsa detected Astrid was back to her usual self and asked, concerned, "Are you better now?"
"Yeah," Astrid punched her shoulder, and Elsa flinched. "You weren't worried, were you?"
This time Elsa crossed her arms and looked away, embarrassed. "I wasn't. Why would I be?"
She laughed loudly, which caused Elsa to feel at relaxation. "You were!"
"Were not!"
"Were so!"
Elsa lifted her arms in defeat and whined. "Alright, I was; you scared me, is all."
"Well, your majesty, I'll try my best not to again" The nickname made Elsa chuckle.
Elsa huffed dramatically and unexpectedly embraced Astrid. "You truly frightened me, Astrid. I don't know how I drove here and how my legs sprinted to the apartment."
"I'm sorry, Elsa," Astrid shoved her face deeper into her shoulder
A thought was very much bugging Elsa. "Are you taking the meds?" Her horrors were answered when Astrid stayed quiet. "You quit the meds?! God damn it, Astrid!"
Astrid let go of her and brought her knees to her chest feeling very exposed. "I don't want to take them."
"Astrid, you have to! You wouldn't have gotten this attack if you had been on meds" She rested her hand on Astrid's shoulder. "Why did you-"
Astrid moved her shoulders around, forcing her rested hand away. "You wouldn't get it."
"Astrid-" Her tolerance was extensively pushed to the limit.
She lost her outrage and screamed, "You wouldn't get it! Those meds make me feel normal, and I hate it! I like being sad. I like suffering because I fucking deserve it, alright? I don't have the right to feel well and live a normal life. So guess what? My coward ass ran away from the meds too. I'm stupid, aren't I?" She put forward her arm in Elsa's direction. "Now go ahead, laugh at me!"
Elsa seized a deep breath, composing herself for a lengthy speech. "That's not stupid. It makes sense to me, as astonishing as you suppose, but it makes sense," she smiled, uplifting "Astrid, I get you. I do trust me. I'm not making fun of you. Mental health can be torturous, but you must take the meds."
Astrid hid her face between the knees, not wanting to look at anyone or simply making an effort to conceal her sobs. "Elsa, are you taking your meds?"
Even in a lousy position, she only stressed about Elsa, which somehow drove Elsa to feel worse. "Yes, I am. Stop worrying about me. And see, that's why my anxiety and depression are controlled. Do I still get sick occasionally? Yes, I do. But it's way better than not taking them at all" Elsa bent in front of Astrid, hoping her words hit some sense. "Take the meds, please. I'd truly love my best friend to stay alive with me forever."
Astrid chuckled and finally lifted her head to glance into her eyes and nodded a silent promise. "As you say, your highness" She looked away, "I'm...I'm sorry you had to see me like that; it was embarrassing."
"Don't make me feel like an outsider."
"It's embarrassing."
Elsa clasped her hands and sighed. "You shouldn't feel embarrassed in front of your loved ones. That's what we are for, to have each other's backs."
"Thanks"
Elsa sat back on the couch, her body relaxed as Astrid was ok currently, but it went back to how it was when she started crying. "Astrid, what happened?"
She wiped her tears with her shirt's edges. "It's just Hiccup" Elsa held her hands in support and motioned her to go on. "Well, he wants me to be his again."
"Sounded cringey but ok" She punched Elsa. "Ow! But what did you say" She rubbed her presumably bruised arm now.
"I said nothing. I just, as usual, pushed him away."
Elsa sighed and lowered her head in her hands in annoyance. "You have got to stop doing that, Astrid."
"There you go, and here I thought you'll understand."
She jerked her head up and blinked. "No, no, no, I totally understand you but listen, I know shit happened in your life, but you can't let it drag you down," She sighed. "Astrid, Hiccup's an awesome guy, and I bet he'll understand, so please don't push him away. I want you to be happy."
Astrid knew what she said was right, and she'll surely think about it, but she was not in the mood to talk about this at the moment. "Ok," Elsa smiled. "So what about you and Jack?"
Elsa bit her tongue. "It appears...he didn't cheat." She waited for Astrid's unpredictable reaction.
Astrid's jaw dropped, and her fists unclenched, realizing the anger wasn't needed anymore. "I knew it! He's not that typpa guy!"
Elsa deadpanned and smacked Astrid's shoulder. "You never told me this before."
"Of course, I wouldn't. I'm on your side, no matter what. Honestly, if you murder an innocent cute puppy, I'll cover up the tracks for you."
Elsa knew she was joking but jabbed her stomach. "Toxic"
She gasped and laughed. "Yeah yeah, but honestly, I'm on your side no matter what!" She hesitated. "So umm yeah, I sorta had a hunch he wouldn't have cheated on you, and it must've been a misunderstanding which now you see is true."
"I'm stupid, aren't I?"
"Yeah, we both are."
"Hey, Astrid," Elsa called for her.
Astrid looked at her. "Yeah?"
A warm smile spread on her face. "I love you, and thanks for always being here for me."
"I love you too, Elsa, and...same" She punched Elsa; well, that's her way of showing affection to anyone.
True Friendship is indeed a gift from God.
