Baby Mikaelson

Chapter Thirty Four - Elijah's Newborn

Caroline Forbes

I had stayed awake for hours after Klaus and Rebekah left for the hospital, Kol had woken up and gone back to the bed he was exhausted from all the work he was putting towards the grill. I hadn't heard from anyone since they left and had remained here in the sitting room since. I had made my way through two bags of popcorn and two jugs of orange juice while they were gone. With a blanket draped over my lap and the pillows staked just right behind my neck and back. There was nothing on television, even with a thousand plus channels it was impossible to settle on one thing, in the end however I opted for the Food Network, it kept my mind off things while making me hungry of course.

This baby seemed to want only the spiciest foods but for tonight he or she would have to make do with popcorn and orange juice because I was too tired to cook, no scratch that I just couldn't be bothered to get up. I'd be happy to just sit until the end of my pregnancy if I had my way. Klaus was getting me up in the mornings and was attempting to get me into walking which wasn't going so well for him. Every time he got too drill sergeant about it I threatened to sit down, he knew once I was down it was impossible to get me up with making a show of it.

However entertaining the food show was at the time my eyes kept creeping over to the clock on the wall. They had been gone for over five hours which felt double that because I hadn't heard from a single one of them. I thought Rebekah would have reached out to me at least, let me know what was happening. They must have known how worried we would get just waiting here for news. Well Kol was worried of course he just never said anything about it, or asked for an update, or stayed awake to hear anything, but deep down he totally cared.

Alright so Elena hadn't been our favourite house guest but the baby she very innocent and if we could help then I told Klaus we would. I knew it might be difficult for him given he had believed the baby to be his these past nine months however, Klaus assured me that this wasn't the case at all and that I shouldn't worry.

The next morning I was just starting to get into a breakfast show when the front door unlocked and I immediately muted the television before looking out to the hall. Elijah stepped inside first in a suit without the jacket, his shirt sleeves rolled up, a car seat clasped in his right hand as he manoeuvred himself through the doorway. A tiny newborn nestled inside of it, strapped in and secure, their small head featuring a slightly oversized pink hat, with a large pink blanket covering their tiny frame.

"Daddy's got chu" Elijah said so softly that only my vampire hearing picked him up

I watched him carry the baby towards the stairs before he disappeared from my sight. Klaus and Rebekah coming through the front door next, Rebekah carrying a diaper bag over shoulder with paperwork tucked under her arm. Klaus came in next, carrying a heavy duty box with a crib featured upon the front.

He settled the box down in the hall before looking in my direction, he looked so tired.

"So whose gonna tell me what's going on?" I asked them
