Ch 17 Anger Boils Over
"Kovu you have to be wrong," Kiara said, shaking her head. "Kopa wouldn't do something like this. He wouldn't."
"I'm sorry Ki' but its true," Kovu said, the sadness clear in his voice. "Kopa's working with Dogo and I assume Tama and Sharka as well."
"I don't understand this," Jasiri said as she too shook her head in disbelief. "Kopa was determined not to become like his parents. Why would he do something this extreme? I just don't get it."
"It was bound to happen," a lioness piped up. "It runs in the blood after all."
"Suki shut the Hell up," Kovu growled, glaring at the lioness. "You don't know what the Hell you're talking about."
"Its true though," another lioness chimed in. "If I were you Nuka I'd send her packing." The lioness nodded towards Kiara when she said this part. "You never know when she'll turn on you."
"Mara I've warned you about saying things like that," Simba said, giving the lioness a look. "And Suki I've given you the same warning."
"Simba you have to admit what we say is true," Suki said. "I mean we were right about Kopa weren't we?"
"Alright that's enough," Simba said. "I need everyone else out of the cave. We need to discuss this in private." With that Suki and Mara laughed slightly as they and the rest of the lionesses left the cave.
"Those two are always causing trouble," Zira said, shaking her head.
"Lets get back to the topic at hand here shall we?" Simba said, turning back to Kovu.
"I don't think Kopa is himself," Kovu said quickly.
"What do you mean?" Simba asked, giving Kovu a confused look.
"I mean his voice was different," Kovu continued. "Like almost demonic. Like..." Kovu stopped and looked up at Kiara, who was staring at him with wide green eyes.
"You mean like Kion's," Kiara whispered. Kovu lowered his head and nodded and Kiara let out a sob. Nuka went over and pulled Kiara close and she cried softly into his chestnut brown mane.
"Wait hold up here I'm confused," Chafu said. "What the Hell are you getting at here Kovu?"
"Yeah I'm confused as well," Jasiri chimed in. "What does Kion have to do with Kopa attacking Kovu?"
"Remember how Kopa was hearing Kion's voice?" Kovu asked.
"Yeah," Jasiri said. "But I don't..." Then she gasped and her brown eyes went wide as she realized what Kovu was getting at. "Oh Kings Above," she breathed. "You don't think Kopa is possessed by Kion's ghost do you?"
"Jasiri that's crazy!" Chafu cried out. "There's no way that's possible!"
"Well I don't know if possessed is the right word," Kovu said. "But I think Kopa hearing Kion's voice all this time on top of not getting sleep and being really stressed out finally made him snap."
"Are you actually defending Kopa's actions?!" Safara cried out, the outrage clear in her voice. "Kings Above Kovu he almost killed you! Not to mention what he and Dogo did to Moto, Chana and Kijana! How can you defend him?!"
"Because he's my brother Safara," Kovu said, giving his future mate an angry look. "And despite what he's done Kopa is still my family. And I will not give up on my family no matter what."
"I won't either," Kiara said with a sniffle as she wiped her eyes with her paw. "Kopa needs our help. Now more than ever."
"I can never give up on him," Jasiri said. "I love him way too much for that. I'll do whatever it takes to help him."
"I agree," Simba chimed in, causing everyone to look at his with surprise.
"Simba!" Zira cried out, her ruby eyes wide with shock. "How can you of all lions say that?! He's beyond help as far as I'm concerned."
"As much as I hate to say it," Vitani put in. "I agree with Mom. Kopa's gone way off the deep end here."
"Yeah I agree too," Safara piped up. "What Kopa's done in unforgivable in my opinion."
"Well I agree with Dad and Kovu," Nuka said. "We can't give up on Kopa. If the situation was reversed he wouldn't give up on and one of us."
"And I'm shocked at your reaction Saf'," Chafu said. "Kopa's our friends. We've been friends ever since we've been cubs. We've been through Hell and back. I can't believe that you would just turn on him like this."
"Well believe it," Safara said with a growl. "I can't and won't forgive Kopa for this. And there's nothing anyone can say that's going to make me change my mind."
"Same here," Vitani said. "And if any of you think otherwise then you're just as crazy as Kopa is!" With that Vitani, Safara and Zira turned to leave. But Simba quickly stepped in front of the three lionesses.
"Hold it right there," the golden King said. "No one's going anywhere until we talk things out."
"Daddy how could you of all lions be defending Kopa like this?" Vitani demanded, giving her father a look.
"Yes Simba I must admit I'm pretty surprised at your attitude towards this," Zira chimed in. "You're the last lion that I would expect to be so dismissive of this."
"Zira I'm not being dismissive," Simba said. "I'm just trying to figure things out before we all turn our backs on Kopa. And if he's really possessed by Kion's spirit then he needs our help to be rid of Kion."
"Oh for Kings sake!" Safara snarled, causing everyone to look at her. "How can you all be so damn stupid?!"
"Safara!" Kovu cried out, his green eyes wide with shock and surprise. "That's the King you're yelling at like that!"
"I don't care Kovu!" Safara spat out. "And you should be enraged too! Kopa damn near killed you! But you're still defending him! I know he's your brother and all but for Kings Sake Kovu there's a breaking point and this is it!"
"I agree dear one," Zira said, looking over at Vitani, who nodded in agreement.
"And all this possession stuff is elephant shit!" Safara spat out. "Kopa did what he did because he wanted to. He's turning into a monster just like his father!"
"I think we're done here," Vitani said, looking at Zira who nodded. With that the three lionesses began to leave once again. But once again Simba stepped in front of the trio.
"Well I think we need to discuss things," Simba declared. "And no one is going anywhere until we do."
"Daddy nothing you or anyone else can say is gonna make me change my mind," Vitani said.
"Still I..." Simba began. But suddenly Safara let out a furious snarl.
"To Hell with this shit," the tan coated lioness growled. "I'm not talking things out. The only thing I'm gonna do is go to the Outlands and rip Kopa's damn head off!" Before anyone could say or do anything Safara let out another growl and charged out of the cave.
"Saf' wait!" Kovu cried out, trying to stand. But a wave of pain went through his body and the golden brown lion was forced to lay back on the ground.
"I'll go after her 'Vu," Chafu said as he ran out of the cave.
"Hey wait up!" Kiara cried out as she, Jasiri, Nuka and Vitani ran after the grey coated lion.
"Should we stop them?" Zira asked, looking at Simba.
"No," Simba said after a minute. "I think this is something they need to do on their own."
"I suppose you're right," Zira said with a sigh. "I just hope nothing terrible happens." Simba nodded in agreement and with that the King and Queen settled down and hoped their children and their friends would be back soon.
