Author's Note:
I thought to not post this but I got inspiration of the song Everytime You Leave by I Previal. Hope you like it.
There may be another chapter after this one of when they tell all their kids what happened.
Anyways, hope y'all enjoy it!
Ten Years Later:
I hummed a tune under my breath for my new song. 'Everytime You Leave.'
My mind kept going back to ten years that had passed. I still couldn't believe everything that had happened since then.
The song 'I Didn't Know' was nominated for song of the year that year. Though we didn't win. Three of the songs were in the top ten of Billboards. We managed to stay on the charts for a few months after that.
It was a whirlwind of things happening at once. But we managed. Together.
Ten Years Earlier:
A few months after Jimena's birth, Edward's contract ended, and he decided to renew it for four more years before retiring.
Meanwhile, I continued touring around the country with the band, eventually making it to Europe to open up a few shows from Florence and The Machine, Incubus, and bands alike. I did eventually hire tutors for Oliver and Jimena while I toured.
Edward surprised me while I was touring Italy, by showing up, and staying two weeks with us, before heading back.
When I finished touring I headed back to the house and was glad when things began winding down, but the quiet didn't last long, because someone tried to break in, meaning found out where we lived, and we had to find a different house, with gates and hire security guards while we were home for safety measures.
Once Edward was back, we did end up moving a few more times to different states, before eventually ending up in Oceanside, California again.
Though, this time we bought a house there, located a few minutes from the base and the beach. Again with a gate, and security team.
My mother had gotten married to Phil after dating for three years. They were happily living now in Phoenix. Phil was a coach for the local high school, and my mother was now working at a doctor's office.
Oh, and my sperm donor? He tried to come back into my life as if he had been here all along, but that was quickly nipped in the bud by Edward and me. Especially after he tried to go on TV and say that it was my mother who kept us apart all these years, when I fully well knew that he had left on his own, Jacob's parents even assured me that it was true when we found out.
A Few Months Ago:
I had caught Edward singing to Jimena as she fell asleep a few months ago. I had gotten home frustrated from a meeting and walked in as he was finishing putting them to bed.
We were practicing the new song I wrote but Garrett couldn't get the right emotion as he sang it. And Alec said he doesn't sing so I was in a pinch. I needed to find a male vocalist before the concert next week.
So, imagine my surprise as I heard my own husband singing, 'Creep' to Jimena as she fell asleep.
"You sing?" I asked him, amused.
He stared up at me with a frown, "No. We've made it clear that you're the singer in the family. Remember?" He asked me amused.
I shook my head amused, "You have a great voice." I told him, with a smile.
He shook his head, "No, I don't, quit it, Bells. I was only trying to get our princess to fall asleep." He said as he tucked her into bed, kissing her forehead as we made our way out.
I followed him to the room, trying to convince him to help me.
He shook his head and ignored me as we both changed out of our day clothes. He slightly smiled at me as I continued to beg him.
Finally as I went the hour of begging him, he turned, lifting himself on his elbow to look at me, "If I do this, you have to promise this will only be a one time thing. I can't go on tours, I want to spend time with our kids while I'm here. They're growing so fast and I don't want to miss anything else." He told me.
I bit my lip and nodded. "We need to hear you first…" I whispered.
He raised a brow, "How does the song go?" He asked.
I reached over to the bedside table to grab my phone. I quickly opened the note app and handed him the lyrics.
I watched his eyes fly across the screen as he read the lyrics, emotions flying across his face as he read them.
"When did you write this?" He asked me.
I looked away, "Around last time you left…" I whispered.
He nodded, setting down the phone before pulling me towards him.
Silently tilting my chin up as he lowered his lips to mine. "You made an entire song out of those words we sent each other?" He asked.
I nodded, blinking away tears.
"You're so amazing, I can't believe how incredible you are." He whispered, as he smiled.
I gave him a watery smile, "I'd like to think so…" I mumbled as he kissed me again.
"You are…" He confirms with a small smile before he presses his lips to my forehead and helps me lay down, "Now why don't we get some rest, and talk about this in the morning?" He asked me.
I sigh and nod, "Good idea." I mumbled as I felt him wrap an arm around my waist and pull me close.
When we woke up the next morning, I got up, and made breakfast before taking our kids to school, and coming back.
"I know you want me to do this but.. I don't know if I can…" he told me.
I frowned, turning to look at him confused. "Why is that?" I asked.
"I haven't sang since mom died. We used to sing together when she got sick. When she died, I lost hope. I sold my guitar, and anything that would connect me to that time… Haven't touched an instrument since." He told me.
I frowned, "That's exactly why you should do this… to honor your mother, to keep her memory and love alive. I know she'd be overjoyed to hear you singing again. I know, I would too." I hinted as I hugged him.
He wrapped his arms around me, smiling, "You incredible." He whispers as he pecks my lips.
"Another reason to do it. As a favor to your lovely wife." I say kissing him back.
He sighs, "Alright, fine." He mumbles.
I smiled, and jumped up to kiss him again, "You won't regret it." I promise as I take his hand, and lead Edward down to my music studio.
I slowly made my way to the sound board, and pointed to the sound proof booth. Edward rolled his eyes at me, and fixed the sound before walking in behind him.
I pulled out the papers where I had written the lyrics. Before handing him the headphones, and moving to put the tune on.
"What am I supposed to sing?" He asked me, stopping me.
I smiled, pulling out my pen, and slowly marked all the places, before pressing the button to start.
"Wait twenty seconds before singing." I told him as I moved to the other microphone.
He nodded as I closed my eyes.
I swallowed hard as I heard him begin to sing.
Author's Note:
Edward is the italic words.
Both will sing the bold italic words
Bella will be normal words.
All I ever wanted was to find someone
But holdin' it together is the hardest part
No one said life gets in the way
That our plans may change but our hearts remain
You stand in the doorway holdin' me
Feeling the tension, you beg and plead
Not to go away again
And then she said
His eyes flew to mine as he sang the chorus, his eyes became glassy as started to sing.
… Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
And every time we speak, words don't do it justice
It's just us from here
Here, here
And that's when she said
Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
I mouthed "I love you," before clearing my throat, and gluing my eyes to the screen in front of me.
… All I ever wanted was to find someone
But finishing the puzzle is the hardest part
Everyday wishin' you could stay
'Cause our minds may change but our hearts remain
You stand in the doorway holding me
Lost in the moment, I can't believe
You gotta go away again
And when I say
As I finished singing, our eyes met. Both glassy as we sang.
… Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
And every time we speak, words don't do it justice
It's just us from here
Here, here
And that's when she said
Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
I can feel my emotions as we sing, I can see by the look of his face that the song has affected him as much as me.
… 'Cause if you ever start to hesitate
And you feel the weight, it starts to break
We're the not the same
Know that this means everything to me
Nothing needs to be said, we know that the time we spent apart affected us greatly. All the fights, and bad moments made me wonder if we were doing the correct thing. Even after I had two more kids two years later.
The thought of separation was briefly entertained but Edward refused to give up on us.
Even when I full out asked him if it was worth it, he'd always say it was. That I was the best thing that happened to him. He'd always remind me of it too.
Oh to me, oh to me, oh to me, oh to me
… Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
And every time we speak, words don't do it justice
… Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
And every time we speak, words don't do it justice
It's just us from here
Here, here
And that's when she said
Every time you leave, I lose a little piece of me
… All I ever wanted was to find someone
But finishing the puzzle is the hardest part
We'd come a long way since though, and now distance only served to make us grow stronger, fonder of each other.
(I lose a little piece of me)
His eyes became glassy and red as he looked at me, and sang.
I could see as he realized when this song came to fruition, affecting him even more.
No one said life gets in the way
It's just us from here
Here (I lose a little piece of me)
Here, I lose a little piece of me
As we finished the last lines of the song, he set down the headphones, and made his way to me, pulling off my headphones before dropping them on the ground.
The kiss conveyed passion, all the other emotions he was feeling.
We ended up getting distracted for a while, and then got a call from Kate that she and the band were coming over.
We played the song again with the band performing again, and everyone loved his voice.
"Who knew your hubby was so good at music too, eh, Be?" Kate asked, "I bet he's good at playing your instrument, eh?" She asked amused as I giggled and elbowed her.
"So, we found a replacement for Garrett in this song?" She asked.
I nodded, "Well, for a while. Edward doesn't want to miss out on the kids." I told them.
"We'll make it work. If not, we'll record it and put it online so that everyone can hear it. Edward is basically retired right? So, I'm sure we can convince him…" Garrett said.
We all exchanged looks before nodding, and touching our fists together.
Come the night of the concert, we drove the kids to Rose and Em's house, kissing each of them as they ran inside to see Henry and Hailey, before leaving.
We got a positive reaction to us performing the song.
My record label called and asked if Edward was retired, because they wanted us to do a tour of that song along with a few workers. To which he replied that he was unsure, but that he appreciated the opportunity.
Edward finished his contract and chose not to renew it. He decided to come on a six month tour with us after all, while my mom came out to stay with the kids for us.
When we arrived back, we had a get together and all our friends came to visit with their kids.
"What are you thinking about my love?" He asked me as I stood on the back porch watching our kids run around with their friends and cousins.
"Nothing, I just… I can't believe we have all of this." I whispered.
He chuckled, as he wrapped his arms around me, hugging me from behind. "We are rich in more ways than one, huh." He whispered to me.
I nodded, turning to look up at him.
He gave me a wide smile and kissed me.
"Hey! There are kids here! None of that shit!" Emmett said.
"Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!" Casey, Alice's daughter, and Jayden, Jacob's son parrot.
"Emmett!" We all called, amused.
"Sorry." He mumbled after Rose smacked him upside the back of the head.
"Shit!" Jayden said again.
"Don't say that, bud. That's a bad word." Jacob told him.
"Is Uncka Em bad?" Jayden asked him.
"No, sweetie, he's…" Tanya began.
"Stupid." Rose supplied amused.
"Hey now!" Emmett said, frowning at them.
"Alright, how about we quit ragging on my brother for his stupidity, and go eat some burgers?" Edward cut in, chuckling.
"There's also carne asada, guacamole, and red rice!" I called as the kids ran in our direction.
"Yes!" Oliver called as he ran to his seat.
Alice laughed as she led her daughter, Lily to the table and pulled her onto her lap to feed her.
"Man, you guys are no fun." Emmett mumbled.
I snorted as I began serving the kids food before heading to grab a burger for myself. I grabbed cheese, tomatoes, guacamole, a few pieces of lettuce and jalapeños.
"So, we on for poker night?" Jasper asked as I sat down.
I shrugged and bit into my burger, sighing. "I've been wanting one of these for a while now." I mumbled as I bit into it and groaned.
I could feel everyone's gaze as I finished the burger and the bag of chips I grabbed.
"What?" I asked, frowning.
"Didn't you have one of those when you were in Chicago a few weeks ago?" Jacob asked me.
I frowned, shrugging. "That was like three months ago." I told him as I stood up for a second one.
Rose followed me to the table and made herself a burger too.
"Hey Bella, quick question. When was the last time you..?" She trailed off.
I frowned,"What?" I asked.
"Played hide the plantain?" She asked.
I frowned, "I don't…" I gasped in realization, my eyes flying to hers. "During the tour…" I whispered.
"Is it possible you are…?" She trailed off.
I frowned, "Not unless the protection we used broke. But that wouldn't be possible because I started my—" I trailed off.
I never thought anything about it until she pointed it out. We did do something during tour, but the condom broke. I never thought anything about it because I started spotting a few days later.
"No. Nope. It's not what you think." I told her as the guys stared in our direction.
I finished eating, quietly excused myself before I made my way inside to our bedroom. I went into our ensuite and pulled out the small box with a sigh.
"I'll wring his neck if this is true." I mumbled.
A few minutes later I heard a knock on the door as I paced in my room, trying not to freak out. I ignored the knocking as I continued to pace.
When the door opened, I turned to look out the window.
"Hey, love, what's wrong?" Edward asked me as he walked in.
"Bathroom counter." I told him.
He went in without another word and came out holding the offensive plastic white strip.
"Do we need a bigger house?" He asked, amused.
"We have ten rooms here, why do we need a bigger house?" I asked him unamused.
He shrugged trying not to smile. "It was a joke." He told me, chuckling.
"You're unbelievable." I breathed, walking away.
"Come on, sweetheart, it'll be alright." He says.
"Right…" I mumbled with a sigh. "You're getting a vasectomy. This can't keep happening." I told him, concerned.
I had complications during my last pregnancy, I didn't want to go through that again.
He nodded, trying not to look so ectastic, though I knew he was. He wanted to have more kids. Unfortunately, I don't think J can handle more. "It's the least I could do…" he agreed as he pulled me into a hug. "It'll be alright." He promised.
"You say that a lot." I grumbled.
"That's because I know it's true. We always make it through." He told me as he kissed my hair.
"Promise?" I asked.
He nodded, "I promise, I'll make sure we make it. You can trust me." He tells me.
I smiled, looking up at him, before kissing his cheek, "I do." I told him.
He hummed in response before sighing and leading me back out.
"Check back in a few years." I mumble to him, causing to chuckle.
