"Congratulations Naruto-boy, you've successfully completed your training to become a Toad Sage" Fukasaku clapped, giving the 14-year-old the praise he deserved for managing this difficult task, while his sensei stood off to the side with a smug look on his face.

Jiraiya had the right to it fortunately "Yeah good job Gaki, but this is only half of the training you have to endure" Jiraiya gave his student a thumbs up and Naruto frowned in confusion, obviously he'd though that this was the only training he would have to do.

And that since he'd finished early, he would get to go home "What come on Pervy Sage no fair, can't my training be done already" Naruto whined, still acting like a brat as he was made to pack up his belongings so that they could get on their way.

The Toad Sage groaned under his breath "No and the longer you drag your feet the longer it will take us to get to our next training destination" Jiraiya scoffed, already prepared to leave while Naruto ran about looking for his personal possessions like a chicken with his head cut off.

Even if he did forget something they could always come back to get it later so he didn't know why the brat was acting like it would be the end of the world if he did leave something behind "Let's go then, as soon as I get this new training over with, I'm going home and you won't stop me Ero-sennin" Naruto grumbled when he was done packing everything.

"Yeah, yeah now stop griping, we'll have to travel on foot for a bit to get there" Jiraiya rolled his eyes at the blonde knucklehead as he reverse-summoned them off of Mount Myoboku and they ended up near the border of Kaminari no Kuni, which was exactly where they needed to be anyway.

So, in a matter of three days the pair were meeting with Ay "Brat been a long time since you've been in my village, not since the joint Chunin Exams if I remember correctly, you've grown up I see" Ay greeted, looking the blonde up and down.

Only to notice that the kid had grown recently which probably meant the other brats had done the same and also got him wondering how Sakura was doing "That's right Old Man Raikage, at least someone acknowledges that I'm not a baby any more" Naruto grinned.

Half tempted to stick his tongue out at the Sannin with him but didn't thankfully "Ahem, anyway Lord Raikage we're here to seek permission to use that place for training related purposes" Jiraiya cleared his throat, not giving in to the urge to whack the dimwit over the head.

"You mean Turtle Island...do you mean to have him learn how to control it, then go ahead, Bee is there he can help out" Ay nodded, relenting to the request by going so far as to write it down on an official looking scroll that they had permission and stamping it with his seal for proof.

Before sending the two of them off, where they got on a boat "Why does that sound so familiar, oh yeah that's right, that's where we had our 2nd exam and Sakura almost died because of that Minoichi bastard" Naruto frowned.

Lost in thought for a moment until he remembered Turtle Island was basically a giant turtle and it was where they'd had their 2nd exam which also caused him to remember that Sakura had almost nearly died and not a very pleasant memory to associate with this place at all.

That's why Naruto was not prepared for what was about to happen when they did arrive on Turtle Island, after the ship was nearly sunk by a giant squid that is and he met Killer Bee who kind of weirded him out before he was led to the waterfall of truth.

"I just meditate under it right" Naruto asked, making sure that was all he had to do, Bee nodded while Jiraiya vanished elsewhere probably to work on his next pervy book, so he had little choice but to focus chakra into his feet to walk across the little pond in order to sit beneath the waterfall on the platform.

After closing his eyes and regulating his breathing Naruto was drawn into his conscious where he met his true self, who completely shattered his very existence "What you know it's true, if you didn't exist, none of this would be happening" the darker version of himself said.

Shaking his outer-self's faith in the world "No that's not right, my Mum and Dad wanted to have me, I was planned" Naruto argued, grasping at straws, a second later he was being shook awake by Bee and the other Jinchuuriki frowned in concern.

Naruto rubbed his arms as he stood on shaky feet, looking for the one person that could give him the answer he sought "Gaki I'm busy writing, tell me later if you have something to say, for now get back to training" Jiraiya attempted to shoo the blonde away.

But the boy was being stubborn for some reason "Tell me Ero-sennin did, was I planned, or did Mum just accidentally end up pregnant with me and decided to keep me, despite knowing what it would do to her if she gave birth, that the foxes seal would weaken" Naruto demanded.

About to be utterly devastated when the truth his inner-self had told him was confirmed "Don't be dramatic brat, does it matter at this point, your parents loved you enough that they were willing to die for you" Jiraiya rolled his eyes.

Though was slightly more concerned when Naruto curled up on the ground "But it didn't have to be that way damn it, they could have aborted me and lived, then none of this would be happening and Sakura-chan wouldn't be in danger all the time trying to protect me" Naruto cried.

Pounding his fists against the earth in frustration, tears leaking from his eyes as he did so, clearly whatever had happened during his first session under the waterfall of truth hadn't been good if it had shaken him up this badly.

"Listen gaki, even if Kushina was still alive and still the foxes jinchuuriki, Akatsuki would be after her instead of you, so stop being an idiot alright, think, what would Sakura say if she were here right now" Jiraiya sighed.

"She'd tell me the same thing Pervy Sage, that it's not my fault Akatsuki is after me, when they could just as well be after my Mum" Naruto sniffled, still pretty shaken up though and not ready to face his true self again any time soon apparently.

While irritating Jiraiya could understand somewhat that being faced with yourself wasn't easy "Okay tell you what gaki, take a break for today, just for today, you've earned it, but tomorrow you have to face your fears and complete this training" Jiraiya grumbled.

Being nice and allowing the kid a break, Naruto dragged himself up from the ground looking worn out before trudging into the house to the room he'd picked out and threw himself on the bed with a grunt, tossing and turning for several minutes trying to get comfortable.

Until a realization came over him and already feeling five times better with that thought wrote a letter to his friends in Leaf and sent them off with toad summons before relaxing and finally managing to drift off to sleep where he slept clear to supper, before going back to bed afterwards to rest some more.

During the following weeks upon receiving a letter from Naruto, making it a year and two months that he'd been gone, Sakura spent her time wisely training and somehow befriending Izuna Uchiha, it all started with the rematch he'd demanded from the first beat down she had given him.

And escalated from there into several spars "Cha, to slow even a genin would be able to beat you Izuna" Sakura taunted with a laugh, eyes closed and using her senses to evade the Uchiha, in order to avoid his sharingan that he used obnoxiously.

It was a wonder he hadn't gone blind from it yet really with his constant use of the dojutsu "Why you little, Katon: Fireball Jutsu" Izuna grumbled, sending a fireball her way but with a single wave of her hand, drawing condensation from the air, the fireball fizzled out to nothing.

Which was even more frustrating "Sorry but I win" Sakura smiled, disappearing in a flurry of ice crystals and reappearing behind him to end the spar by pinning him to the ground using her chakra enhanced strength to make sure he couldn't break free.

"Let him up Sakura" Tobirama smirked, inwardly relieved that both newly revived Uchiha were now behaved thanks to the rosette as she popped up from the ground, pulling Izuna onto his feet in one smooth movement afterwards.

Though it was easy to tell that Izuna still wasn't happy with the repeated losses he'd suffered at her hands, he was starting to become genuinely friendly towards Sakura "How are you so good at that" Izuna grumbled, brooding essentially.

Something his clan was good at "A lot of practice Izuna, I may not have started out knowing how to use my bloodline ability but I made sure I could after I found out about it" Sakura admitted, eyeing the position of the sun.

Before realizing that she had to get going or she would be late for her shift at the hospital and with a wave she was gone leaving them behind "So, Senju how long have you known her for" Izuna coughed, extremely awkward as he stood there in front of his murderer.

"Over two years at this point, she was still 12 back then I believe, or she could have been 13, I'm not entirely certain, just don't go causing her any more trouble Izuna" Tobirama warned lightly, feeling much the same as Izuna really.

A moment later they went in different directions of each other and Fugaku, who had been watching the spar while hidden, shook his head, but since he had a question, went to find his son, "Father, I didn't expect to see you today" Itachi bowed his head.

"Normally I wouldn't seek you out like this, however I'd like to ask how you met Sakura-san" Fugaku admitted, this was just his curiosity basically, which made him do ridiculous things sometimes and this was one of them unfortunately.

His son immediately flinched, making him realize that it would be no simple answer "Well I was still in Akatsuki back then, I and my partner did a horrible thing to that girl, we abducted her Father, nearly killed her, my partner anyway, even came back to torment her later" Itachi confessed.

Fugaku grimaced realizing he'd stumbled onto a very touchy subject by accident just because he was curious "As far as I'm aware that girl isn't a jinchuuriki, so why Itachi, what was the reason behind kidnapping her" Fugaku frowned.

Eyeing Itachi's expression "You've seen how she is, Sakura is a very unique individual and was like that even as a genin unfortunately, so, the Leader wanted us to make sure, we didn't have a choice" Itachi explained, remembering how easily Sakura had escaped from he and Kisame that first time.

"Hmm, but why come back after her, surely those weren't orders, to continue hunting someone you'd already confirmed wasn't a tailed beast host" Fugaku asked, trying to come up with his own answer to that question.

But couldn't really see why it had been necessary in the first place "Kisame mostly, he felt guilty for traumatizing her, but we couldn't show that to others so we checked up on her under the pretense of trying to capture Naruto-san" Itachi admitted.

Giving more to the story "Do you truly believe that you can trust this Kisame, as far as you were aware, he was loyal to the Akatsuki Leader, so what changed his mind" Fugaku frowned, wondering if it wasn't some kind of trap.

Though it appeared not even Itachi knew the answer to that question "But I do think Kisame can be trusted" Itachi shrugged lightly, curiosity sated for now, Fugaku wandered off, patrolling around the village just to give himself something to do really.

Until the rosette finished off her shift at the hospital for the night and like he'd gotten in the habit of doing followed her back to the district just to make sure Sakura made it back safely "I know what you're doing uncle" Shisui startled the hell out of him.

When the pinkette had entered her home and he was preparing to leave "Shisui that was uncalled for" Fugaku scowled at his nephew, trying to calm his heart from the scare, while pretending at the same that he hadn't just had the daylights frightened out of him.

"Oh, honestly Uncle, you're falling into the trap many have already fallen into before you, Sakura's got you wrapped around her cute little fingers and all she had to do was beat you up once for it to happen" Shisui laughed loudly.

Fugaku scoffed refusing to admit to such a thing as he crossed his arms over his chest and marched determinedly to his quaint little home, though he did wish Mikoto was there to share it with him, then shut the door firmly in his nephew's face.

Shisui huffed but left without further harassment and the following morning Sakura joined her clan at the lake for training seeing that she had the day off from training and missions "By the way Sakura, Juzo-san is rather oblivious don't you think" Suzuha commented.

Causing Sakura to blink at her "Uh, why do you say that Suzuha-san" Sakura inquired calmly as she scribbled things down in her notebook, or what appeared to be a notebook, no one really knew what it was the kunoichi did most of the time.

"Just that he is, I mean Atsuko-nee has gotten Mangetsu to pay attention to her, when I try, I don't even get a single ounce of his attention, he simply says pardon but I have patrol to get back to and then he leaves" Suzuha ranted.

Atsuko, from where she stood, bit back the laugh that wanted to escape from her "Huh...oh well, it takes time, you can't rush things" Sakura assured, wondering what the heck was going on as she resumed her previous actions.

Helping out the others from time to time if they needed it, but at this point, the others were getting fairly practiced at using their kekkeigenkai "You know she's right Suzuha, just be patient" Atsuko soothed, knowing that Juzo was simply taking his time with her sister.

Because he'd already asked her for permission to court Suzuha so it was only a matter of time before the two were a couple, while Mangetsu hadn't even hinted at asking her, her sister was lucky in that regard, that Juzo was man enough to step up and go for it essentially.

"Also make sure to drop by the clinic Sakura, I know you have that library project, but an extra set of hands won't hurt for an hour or so" Atsuko requested, Sakura smiled in answer then let herself get absorbed in her notebook.

Until training was over for the morning "Ugh I ache, everywhere, help me" Karin groaned, trudging towards the clinic when they went to open up for the day, it still wasn't fully operational, but they did get some patients from the hospital occasionally.

Sakura winced "Training with Mito-sama that bad this morning I see, what did she do this time" Sakura asked, helping Karin into a chair and beginning to heal her from the cuts and bruises that covered her body that she could see anyway.

Karin nodded solemnly "Mhm, today she decided that she was going to throw me around like a ragdoll with her chakra chains, those suckers hurt by the way" Karin informed, looking worn out, and it had only been a couple of months that she'd been taken on as an apprentice by Mito.

"I kind of figured that they would, be thankful you aren't having to dodge large rubber balls, I'm glad we moved past that stage of training when I learned how to evade them and stop getting hit in the stomach by the things" Sakura grimaced.

Glad that she had someone to sympathize with Karin relaxed under the expert healing of her best friend "Welcome to Yuki Clinic, we only deal with minor injuries here" Suzuha's voice called out when they heard the door open then shut.

Followed by two familiar Uchiha as the entered the clinic "That's all we have really, I just didn't want to walk around with this cut on my face and I think Itachi might have a sprained wrist" Izuna huffed, obviously awkward.

While the other, Itachi, looked around curiously, clearly intrigued by the transformation he was witnessing "Hello Izuna, Itachi" Sakura greeted politely, gesturing one of them into the room that Karin had already exited.

The pair eyed each other before Izuna stepped forward leaving Itachi to Atsuko "I thought you had today off from training and healing, even missions" Izuna grunted as he settled into the just vacated chair and Sakura stood in front of him.

"Just for an hour Izuna, this place isn't entirely operational yet remember so I help when I can...you have pretty eyes you know, you really should be more careful with them" Sakura assured, getting closer and causing a flush to rise on his cheeks.

Especially at the compliment she afforded him, though he knew that Sakura wasn't flirting with him, it was still a little embarrassing to be stared at so intently, then the rest of what she said made him frown "What do you mean, I am careful with my eyes" Izuna furrowed his brows.

Confused obviously "Not saying that you don't have the right to it Izuna, but the constant use of your dojutsu does hurt you in the long run, I'd rather you able to see than be blind from overuse of the sharingan to be honest" Sakura scolded lightly.

A medic through and through apparently "Fine, I won't rely on it so much unless I absolutely have to" Izuna sulked, figuring he could give in just a little bit, since they were already on somewhat friendly terms with one another and he knew she was just saying that because she was concerned.

She truly was a kind and caring person after all, exactly like Itachi had told them Sakura was, "Thanks, there all done, your free to go Izuna" Sakura smiled brightly, causing him to blush again as he hurriedly paid what he owed to the clinic and rushed out, leaving Itachi behind.

Who shook his head and exited a lot more calmly than Izuna had, not more than twenty minutes later Sakura was gone off to the library that had a few more books in it than before, as she'd gotten firsthand accounts of Yuki clan history from Atsuko, Suzuha and even Gengetsu.

Though at the moment she was still hard at work on her latest theory work as Sakura flipped open her books and began reading "What are you doing" and then she was interrupted half an hour later by one of Mebuki's teammates.

Upon looking up however she found both were there "Research Tsuyoka-san, I want to make my own unique medical ninjutsu and I've almost got all the theory work for it done" Sakura admitted, Inuzuka were nosy like that so she might as well just tell them to avoid being pestered relentlessly.

"Oooh fascinating, so how will it work when it's time for you to start practicing with it" Tsuyomi inquired, peering over the pinkette's shoulder to peek into the girl's notebook that Mebuki talked about often when they came round to visit.

Both she and her sister had decided to hold off on the Jonin Exams until Mebuki gave birth and could join them as a member of their team again "Well if I do it right, it should look something like this" Sakura said, worrying her lip as she held up a sketch of what her hand-crafted healing jutsu would look like.

It looked like some kind of insect cocoon to them really "Exactly, I already named it Ice Chrysalis, like a caterpillar preparing to become a butterfly, this will be used for healing deadly wounds, the patient will be placed in a cocoon made of ice and healed while inside before breaking open" Sakura explained.

Looking excited "It's something for sure Sakura" Tsuyoka whistled softly, knowing that when it was ready for use, everyone in all the great nations would be amazed at what the pinkette was actually capable of when it mattered.

"Yeah, on that note we won't bother you any further, come on Sis" Tsuyomi waved, deciding to leave Sakura to her work and a moment later both Inuzuka were gone on the way to the main family house to spend time with Mebuki for a while.

"Done are you" Haku questioned gently when he entered the clan library and saw her closing the various books that were scattered around on the table, usually he would have to coax her into doing so but not this time apparently.

Especially when she nodded "Mhm I'm finally ready to start practicing what I've been working on" Sakura hummed, giving Haku a kiss and clasping hands with him as they walked home together, content for the time being it seemed.

And dare he say it relaxed for the first time in a while, not since that incident almost a month ago, Sakura hadn't been able to really lower her guard because of it "Are you going to tell us what it is now" Haku asked hopefully.

Everyone had been positively curious about whatever it was she'd been working on, but Sakura had been so damn secretive about it to their frustration "Here, I'll let you see for yourself" Sakura laughed, handing over the clan jutsu book.

That was full up of specially crafted jutsu just for the Yuki clan "Ice Chrysalis: a medical type ninjutsu, hmm, makes use of ice and cocoon's the injured to be healed" Haku read out loud, eyes growing wide at the no doubt extremely complicated medical ninjutsu that would be unique to just them.

"I know, you don't have to say it Haku" Sakura said when her betrothed looked at her with wide chocolate eyes, she scared herself sometimes to, but this healing jutsu, she was determined to make it work for not only her sake but others as well.

Haku sighed and handed the notebook back to Sakura "May I ask why you felt the need to come up with your own medical ninjutsu" Haku inquired gently, especially one that could heal fatal injuries and just before she answered he had his answer.

Because Sakura was selfless like that "To make sure everyone I care about don't die on me, I don't want to lose anyone Haku, I don't care if that makes me selfish that I'm making something only the clan can use, but I'll use it one everyone if I have to" Sakura admitted.

Leaning into his side and he wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders "Sakura, you couldn't be selfish if you tried honestly and to me this only proves that being Hokage-sama's apprentice really suits you" Haku assured.

Pressing a kiss to the side of her head, ignoring the squeal from Ami as she saw the action, returning from a B rank mission, the whole of Team 17 were now Chunin and further out of Danzo's reach "Hey I just thought of a question, how'd you two end up you know engaged, never got the story" Ami asked.

Joining the couple on their walk through the district "Mebuki-sama decided that all on her own really, the rest we worked out on our own, why" Haku informed, wondering why Ami was asking in the first place when it had never occurred to her to ask before.

"Well, I think Mum's been considering it herself, betrothing me to one of my teammates I mean, probably Hisame, I like him, though haven't been able to tell him that because one of the shinobi principles is that there is to be no relationships between team members" Ami confessed.

Still wondering how the heck that would work out "Hokage-sama would understand if that were the case Ami, being betrothed to one another would nullify the rules of that principle basically, as long as you kept it professional while on missions" Sakura waved her hand.

"Really thanks, well see you, I promised I'd help out around the house when I got back" Ami perked up in relief before dashing off on the couple, where they hurried the rest of the way home and headed in to enjoy supper before going to bed for the day.

The next day however it was back to training and missions for Sakura, one such mission had her leaving the safety of the village again even if she only had to go a short distance away, she was still completely on edge as she headed to the herb patch right outside the gates.

Mind flashing back to the time those bastards from Kusagakure had been waiting for Karin and that they'd taken off with the both of them, where they had ended up meeting Shisui and Minato for the first time after getting lost for a couple of days.

A few minutes later she reached her destination and hurriedly got started on her task, finishing up in record time thankfully, Sakura was ready to return when she caught a flash of red, indicating her spirit wolf was near "He...Help, s..someone help me please" followed by a voice crying out for help.

Using her senses, she was able to locate their chakra but hesitated, afraid that this was some sort of trap, Sakura frowned, then took a leap of faith by cautiously heading towards the person calling for help and found it to be a young woman.

Who so happened to be wearing clothing branded with the Uchiha crest "What the Takako, is that you" and then Izuna scared the ever-living daylights out of her by showing up unexpectedly and she nearly slammed her fist to him.

Only managing not to in the nick of time, when he paled and closed his eyes, bracing himself for the punch "Please for the love of kami don't do that again Izuna" Sakura breathed harshly, also pale from how badly he must have scared her.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you hadn't sensed me coming up behind you, I felt a familiar chakra after I got done training so decided to come check it out" Izuna apologized sheepishly, feeling bad for startling the rosette, who'd been through a lot if that was her reaction to being frightened.

Especially as it took her a few minutes to calm down before kneeling at the injured Uchiha's side "How is this possible, I don't understand Izuna-kun, I know for a fact that I was dead" Takako, as Izuna had named her earlier asked.

Though wary let the younger kunoichi heal her of the injuries she had from the bandits that she'd escaped from "Same here Takako, I died to and came back a few months ago, so I don't really get it either why people are returning to life, but we are here and alive, so best to make the most of it" Izuna soothed.

Keeping his secret love calm while Sakura worked on her with gentle hands, though now maybe he would have a chance to be with the woman he had been in love with before she had been brutally murdered by the Hagoromo clan when the bastards had betrayed them.

"Come on ask questions later, we need to get back to the village now" Sakura informed, not willing to chance anything else happening when she was finished healing Takako and with Izuna's help a few minutes later they were back and signing in to her relief.

She just knew however that things were only going to get worse when five days later she was assigned another mission this time with Team Gai "Sakura" Neji nodded stiffly to the rosette that had rejected him all those months ago.

"Welcome aboard the team oh youthful apprentice of our youthful Hokage-sama" Gai grinned, familiar with the pinkette considering she still sought him out occasionally for new weights, so he knew she would be a good fit for his team.

Next to greet her was Tenten "It's nice to have another girl along with us every once in a while" the brunette bumped shoulders with the slightly younger kunoichi, only by a year, Sakura was still younger than her fortunately.

Even if they were the same rank "Yes it will be wonderful to have the youthful cherry blossom on the mission" Lee nodded vigorously in agreement, facing Tsunade when the woman tapped her nails on her desk in an impatient matter.

"Now if you can be quiet for a moment, I will tell you what your mission entails, you will be helping Ao retrieve Utakata, he's a jinchuuriki, the six-tails is sealed inside of him and Mei wants him back at all costs for his own protection" Tsunade informed.

Hoping that she wasn't making a mistake in sending her apprentice but she knew that things were going to get dangerous "Be at ease Lady Hokage, we won't allow anything to happen on the mission, right Chojuro" Ao assured.

Glancing to the wielder of Hiramekarei "That's right, at least I hope nothing happens" Chojuro smiled nervously and Ao shook his head at the hopelessness of the younger generation, Tsunade grumbled under her breath before sighing.

"Find Utakata and for fucks sake come back unharmed" Tsunade snapped, sending her shinobi and the Mist-nin scrambling from her office to get started on their mission and half an hour later she felt their chakra leave the village.

On the search for the missing ninja of Kirigakure "So where do you suppose we begin looking for this Utakata guy anyway, is he youthful I wonder" Gai asked, peering at Ao, who kept his gaze glued to Sakura for some reason or another.

"Last known location was in Land of Hot Water, we don't know if he's still there or not unfortunately as communication was cut off from the Hunter-nin on his tail a couple weeks ago" Ao answered, not attempting to use his stolen Byakugan.

Because he didn't want to go poking the hornets nest essentially what with a Hyuga in his midst "How well do you think he'll take our presence" Sakura questioned, keeping a wary eye out for trouble as they walked in the direction Ao was sort of leading them towards.

At her question Chojuro winced "Probably not very well to be honest but we have to try or else he'll just continue to be in danger" Chojuro admitted, behaving normally for once without his usual worries, it was because Sakura was there no doubt.

That he was able to focus on the task at hand "What I don't understand is why you had to come along surely the members of my team and sensei, along with these two were enough" Neji scoffed, being a jerk on purpose because he was still pissed that she'd rejected him.

"Neji, you know as well as I do that the youthful cherry blossom would be beneficial to any team due to her being a medical ninja, if we do get hurt, she is here to heal us and most likely help us convince the youthful Utakata to go back to his village" Lee scolded.

Having taken a liking to Sakura because she was never cruel to him "Don't let him get to you alright, Neji is just unfortunately good at holding grudges" Tenten whispered later on when the two kunoichi were alone, searching for ingredients to make dinner with.

Sakura sighed "Yeah, I know, but now isn't really the time or place to be taking his anger out on me either" the rosette scoffed quietly, snagging a few wild carrots when she spotted them, before they returned to camp once they had enough ingredients.

"I bet you've improved upon your cooking" Ao commented, letting her take over preparing the evening meal automatically, because he knew how good of a cook Sakura was considering the few meals, he'd gotten to have way back when.

Kami just the thought of it made him realize that Sakura was no longer that baby-faced genin from before, she was growing up into a beautiful young woman and given the looks she was getting from the Hyuga on the team, men were beginning to take notice.

Which for some reason grated on his nerves "Huh, oh yeah I guess" Sakura laughed sweetly, chopping up what had been found and turning it into a wonderful wild vegetable stew that everyone thoroughly enjoyed until there was nothing left of it.

"Alright I'm going to divvy up night-watch, Sakura-chan, Tenten-chan you have the first shift, then in a few hours Neji-kun, Lee-kun and Chojuro-kun can take the second, and after Ao-kun and I will take the final shift before we need to get a move on" Gai clapped his hands.

Taking charge "Well you won't get any complaints out of me Gai-sensei" Tenten saluted, glad that she had a chance to actually get to know Sakura since they had a few hours alone to chitchat while keeping an eye out for any trouble.

Neji scoffed under his breath but didn't say a word when jade orbs narrowed on him in warning, soon after he was fast asleep in his shared tent with Lee "I'm glad I have Haku" Sakura grumbled, because honestly, she was half a second away from decking Neji Hyuga in the face if he didn't stop.

"Haku huh, I think I went on a mission once with him, he was pretty good, especially with senbon if I remember" Tenten remarked, not able to remember much of the mission, though able to remember how well Haku handled his weapons at least.

Sakura nodded "Oh yeah, he never misses with throwing needles, he can even hit someone from a distance right here" the pinkette smiled, tapping her neck gently where a pressure point was, that if hit put people in false death states.

"Really that's awesome, now I kind of want to see him in action, guess I'll just have to wait until we finish our mission" Tenten huffed, excited now and disappointed at the same time because what she wanted wasn't possible at that current moment in time.

Earning a snicker before Sakura straightened, instantly making her wary, as the rosette stood, lowering her hand to her waist where her gourd of water was located, senses honed in a singular direction as she heard multiple pairs of feet heading straight for them.

Only to relax after a moment when the group of three entered the clearing to reveal themselves as simple merchants "Sorry, we didn't mean to startle you, just got lost is all" the one in charge, apologized when Sakura gave them directions to where they wanted to go.

And watched them head off "Everything alright out here" Gai poked his head through the flaps of his tent after hearing voices from people that he didn't know and Sakura explained that some merchants had gotten lost is all, so she'd pointed them in the proper direction.

Gai chuckled, muttered something under his breath, probably about youth most likely, then laid back down, leaving the kunoichi to their watch "Okay I'll wake my teammates, you wake Chojuro-san" Tenten suggested with a yawn.

"Chojuro, it's your turn to take watch" Sakura murmured, shaking his shoulder gently, it would take much to wake him thankfully and a few minutes later she was crawling into her tent, sharing with Tenten while the boys kept watch.

Until Gai and Ao took over a few hours later and after breakfast they packed up and continued marching towards Yu no Kuni, only making stops for meals or rest for the next two days until they arrived "Now what, we're here what do we do" Neji crossed his arms over his chest.

Beyond irritated as the object of his desires had quite literally refused to speak even a word to him for the past three days preferring Tenten or Lee's company over his, even the Mist-nin got her attention far more than he had other than when she glared at him.

"Split up into three groups, Chojuro, you'll go with Neji and Lee, you two stick together, Gai-san and I will do our own search of the area, if you find him, don't approach, one of you needs to come retrieve us or we'll be having to chase him down because he will run" Ao announced.

"Looks like we're stuck together huh Sakura" Tenten remarked, feeling the jealous look boring into her back, Neji was not happy apparently and honestly, she was surprised Sakura had lasted this long without taking a swing at the jerk.

The pinkette sighed "Come on, the sooner we get this mission over with the sooner we can get home" Sakura reminded, rubbing her temples and feeling like something terrible was about to happen as she healed her headache then spread out her senses to search for foreign chakra.

Knowing that since Utakata was a tailed-beast host he would have an abnormal amount of chakra "Say I have a question, if you were this good way back when, why didn't you participate in the Chunin Exams" Tenten asked suddenly.

Having always wondered really "My teammates and I weren't ready to be honest, neither Sasuke or I were nearly as proficient at our kekkeigenkai then as we are now, plus if we had, Orochimaru would simply be an even bigger pain in the ass I suspect" Sakura said.

Furrowing her brows in concentration "Orochimaru as in the Sannin, like Hokage-sama and the Toad Sage" Tenten interrupted, wondering what that had to do with them not taking the exams, while doing her best to help out searching for Utakata.

"Yes, he was there in the forest waiting to curse-mark Sasuke because of his sharingan, he wants to take over Sasuke's body for that reason alone" Sakura nodded, Tenten shuddered in disgust in response and was suddenly glad that it wasn't her team that constantly got in trouble.

Before focusing on the task at hand until late in the day when Ao came to fetch them "Didn't find anything either did you" Ao grunted, leading the kunoichi to the inn they would be staying at, Sakura and Tenten shook their heads in answer.

"No luck I take it, well there's always tomorrow, we'll just have to be more youthful during our search for Utakata" Gai cheered, unconsciously creating an illusion, teeth shining as he grinned with his thumbs up to psyche the team up.

Lee was about the only one that jumped up raving about youth right alongside his sensei while Tenten groaned under her breath and Neji crossed his arms over his chest, Sakura laughed softly then went to order something to eat.

Hungry from walking about all day "There's a spring if you want to bathe" Chojuro suggested, seeing that Sakura was a little stressed out, missing how Neji tensed when the rosette perked up a little in response probably just at the thought of a bath.

Never would they have guessed what was about to happen however when Sakura snagged Tenten for a dip in the private hot spring, since they were sharing a room, and Neji claimed exhaustion mere minutes after the kunoichi's departure.

"Ah this feels nice" Tenten sighed as she relaxed into the heated water, the first in because she was less shy about her body, while Sakura wrapped herself with the supplied towels before joining Tenten a couple minutes later.

Tension visibly fading from her shoulders when she was fully submerged "Mm, yes, maybe someday when there is peace, I'll bring Haku here so that we can enjoy the hot springs together as a married couple perhaps" Sakura hummed quietly.

On cloud nine for the moment, just outside the enclosed space however, was Neji, who was currently employing the use of his Byakugan to spy on the kunoichi "Your utterly despicable" a voice called down to him when he grumbled in frustration.

Because the one he wanted to see, happened to still be fully covered up "Mind your own damn business" Neji snapped furiously, straining his eyes to see through the cloth that hid Sakura's body from his perusal with not much luck unfortunately.

"Really, how disgusting do you have to be to spy on naked women with your dojutsu" the older brunet scoffed in disgust at the actions of the younger man, raising his voice just enough that he was heard by the pinkette the teenager was trying to spy on.

Which set off a chain of events that he could have never predicted would happen as almost immediately after outing the peeping tom, a flurry of kunai sailed over the wooden wall of the private hot spring "NEJI HYUGA HOW DARE YOU SPY ON US YOU PERVERT" came the yell from his now furious teammate.

Grabbing her clothes and throwing them on hastily before giving chase as Neji decided that it was in his best interests to run like mad in order to get away "Well there goes my relaxation" Sakura sighed, left behind to explain the situation.

Before something occurred to her and she glanced up into the tree to see a man, not just any man, but the very one they had been searching for all day, reclined comfortably on a branch "Aren't you going to chase him as well" Utakata asked.

As the rosette walked up the wooden wall and over to stand beneath his tree "No, it's not my responsibility to deal with him, even if I am annoyed that he couldn't leave well enough alone Utakata-san" Sakura scoffed lightly, revealing that she knew who he was.

Utakata did sit up at that though but didn't react any further than that, for now at least, "You're from Leaf, yet there's something about you that I can't quite put my finger on that reminds me of a Mist shinobi, why is that I wonder" Utakata frowned.

Deciding to engage in conversation when normally he'd already be well on his way "Mhm and if things had turned out differently, I probably would be a Kiri-nin, as it is, I've already spent time as a temporary one for six months, won't you come down, for a proper talk" Sakura nodded.

Making a simple request of the man "I know there are Hunter-nin in the area, who's to say you aren't working with them to capture me" Utakata scowled, gold eyes narrowed as he considered his next course of action.

"Capture you, no, that is not their purpose here, today or any other day, please give us a chance to explain" Sakura assured in a calm voice, hoping that she wasn't being too hopeful of the situation since he hadn't run off yet.

Finally, after several minutes had gone by with her just staring at him while he looked around warily, Utakata gave in to her request "Fine, but it better be a good explanation, and I want a meal out of it at the very least" Utakata grumbled.

Jumping down from his tree "As long as you listen, that's all we want" Sakura exhaled, visibly relieved that he was giving her a chance to explain as she led the way around to the front entrance of the inn and to the dining hall where the others minus Tenten and Neji were still gathered.

Ao choked on his blackberry tea upon seeing who had walked in with Sakura "UTAKATA" he leaped to his feet, prepared to use force, when Sakura stood in the way, giving him this pleading look that said calm down and think rationally.

"Right, right, that's no longer necessary" Ao grimaced, realizing he almost blew what was probably their only chance to have a proper conversation with Utakata, who'd been half a second from fleeing the inn no doubt from his actions.

But a moment later they were all sat with tea in hand and a meal for Utakata "How did you find him" was the first question asked by Gai-sensei, because they'd searched all day and then suddenly in a stroke of luck Sakura just so happens to find him during their rest time.

"You can thank Neji for that and the next time he tries to peep at me Gai-sensei I'm going to deck him in the face" Sakura informed, taking a sip of her tea and wishing they were back home already as Gai spluttered apologies for his student.

It wasn't really his place to do so however so she waved them off, assuring him that she wasn't angry with him, but Neji better watch out because she wasn't going to tolerate his bullshit any longer "Should have known better than to get involved" Utakata groaned.

Knowing he only had himself to blame for being found really "Either way thank you Sakura-san, for managing an other wise difficult task, I'm sure" Ao gave Sakura a rare smile for doing the impossible in getting Utakata to remain while they explained.

"Time to explain, I'd rather not stick around for too long to be honest" Utakata demanded when he polished off the plate of food that Sakura had generously bought for him, Ao opened his mouth to begin when he was interrupted.

As the absent Tenten marched into the dining hall, dragging a suspiciously silent Neji behind her by the collar of his shirt "Please proceed Ao-san, don't mind us alright" Tenten smiled, shooting a look at her teammate when he squirmed uncomfortably.

"Utakata by order of the 5th Mizukage, you are hereby requested to return to the village for your own safety, with the charges against you wiped clean and no longer a branded criminal of the village for any past actions" Ao informed.

Just waiting really for whatever his reaction would be "My own safety you say, you can't just tell me something like that and not elaborate" Utakata frowned, glancing at the door that led outside from the dining hall.

"There's a group going around called Akatsuki that are hunting down Jinchuuriki to do who knows what with them Utakata-san, so yes it would be in your best interests to return to your village to have safety in numbers" Sakura confessed.

When the others remained silent on the matter "I'm not afraid of any group that goes by such a ridiculous name as that" Utakata snorted, not impressed in the least, though he did begin to get a little worried when her expression darkened.

"You should be very afraid Utakata-san, the group is made up entirely of S class rogue ninja from several of the great nations and I've encountered them multiple times, they can and will kill you" Sakura said in a grave tone of voice, no doubt due to her experiences in encountering them.

It was awful what she'd been through really just because Sakura happened to be on a team with Naruto, who coincidentally was a target of Akatsuki due to being a tailed-beast host and had stopped them on several occasions when they tried to abduct him from the village and on various missions.

"Okay, okay fine, if you're going to get that worked up about it, I'll go back" Utakata scowled, not about to admit that the girl had him sufficiently terrified out of any further stupidity, though he was surprised when everything let out sighs of relief.

Making him wonder what they'd expected to happen if that was their response when all was said and done "Thank you Utakata-san, you have no idea how happy this makes her" Chojuro whispered when Sakura bid them goodnight.

Looking extra exhausted as she trudged off to her rented room "Yeah, the youthful cherry blossom is extremely kind and caring, so it was no doubt weighing heavily on her mind the amount of danger that you were in until now" Lee nodded.

Deciding to do the same as Sakura as Tenten released Neji from her grip and he scrambled away from her, straightening his clothes out and hurriedly vanishing after Lee "Goodnight Gai-sensei" Tenten saluted at her sensei, joining Sakura in slumber ten minutes later.

The rest of them doing the same not long after and the following morning after breakfast the Leaf-nin and Mist-nin split up in opposite directions "Sakura doesn't look so good Gai-sensei, maybe we should take a quick break" Tenten remarked.

Seeing how pale the younger kunoichi was as they got further away from the Mist shinobi "Hmm your right Tenten-chan, alright let's take a small break, are you okay Sakura-chan" Gai frowned worriedly when it looked like she was about to faint on them.

"Got a really bad feeling" Sakura confessed and just as she said that, three things happened simultaneously, first her spirit wolf darted through the clearing they had stopped in, second little white things came raining down on them and third.

Was the large explosion that could be felt and heard from the direction the Mist shinobi had headed in "Gai-sensei what are these things" Lee asked, poking one, it looked like some kind of bug to him and a split second later they all started exploding.

Reacting at a split second's notice, Sakura uncorked her large gourd of water and waved her hand through the air, immediately a dome made of ice formed around the five of them to brace them against the explosions going off right outside.

"Damn I was hoping to knock you out, Tobi really wants you, you see and since Itachi betrayed us it's only fair that we take someone from that stupid village of yours" a voice said and they all looked up to see a blonde on a weird bird like thing when the ice was returned to its natural state.

Sakura clenched her hands into fists, "Sakura, go to them, we'll keep him occupied" Gai instructed, behaving normally for once, knowing that she was worried about whoever was attacking the Mist-nin that had been on the mission with them up until an hour ago.

"Be careful please, Hyoton: Exploding Ice Butterflies" Sakura stressed, not sure who this latest Akatsuki member was but he was just as dangerous as all the others no doubt and with a flurry of hand signs, unleashed one of her special jutsu on the blonde bastard.

Causing the white bird thing he was on to explode, she nodded to the others then channeled chakra into her legs as she took off running in the direction Ao, Chojuro and Utakata had gone 'Please, please, please, please let them be alright' Sakura pleaded inwardly.

Using the time while she ran to spread out her senses and feel the monstrous chakra fighting Chojuro, Utakata's felt muted as if he were unconscious and Ao's flared like he was in pain "Sakura" Ao breathed when she nearly dashed by his position.

"What happened Ao" Sakura asked, bending to aide him in healing the large cut on his side and then she watched in absolute horror as blood poured from his mouth, causing him to double over clutching his stomach where the new injury had appeared.

"I was too careless it seems" Ao coughed causing blood to splatter on her cheek because she was so close to him attempting to close the wounds that kept appearing "It's him... that Akatsu..Akatsuki member, he got m..me with his scythe, inge..ingested my blood" Ao said.

Attempting to explain, Sakura's head snapped in the silver haired rogue's direction and watched as the crazy nuke-nin repeatedly stabbed himself before looking to Ao again to see that wherever the rogue stabbed himself, wounds appeared on Ao in exactly the same places.

"Got to sever the link but how...maybe that weird looking symbol, let's see what happens when it's destroyed" Sakura mused, trying to figure out the mystery, and then it hit her, he wasn't moving, only staying in one spot, in the middle of the weird circle with the upside-down triangle.

So, with an idea firmly in mind Sakura stood, giving Ao an apologetic look as she cracked her knuckles and began building up chakra into her fists "CHA, you leave Chojuro alone SHANNARO" Sakura let out a war-cry as she leaped into the air.

He looked up at her as she bared down on him just before the ground that they stood upon shattered beneath her fist, severing the link he had between himself and his victim "Bitch I'll sacrifice you to Jashin for that" came a slew of foul language.

When the dust settled to reveal that he was perfectly fine, even the injuries that he'd inflicted upon himself were gone though his clothes were ruined but at least Ao would be alright for now seeing as he could use medical ninjutsu.

Leaving this crazy bastard to her and Chojuro "Not that I'm not glad or anything Sakura-san but what are you doing here" Chojuro asked, wielding his legendary blade, it was how he'd managed to avoid meeting the same fate as his partner.

"We got attacked to Chojuro, some blonde from Iwa given the scratched through hitai-ate he wore" Sakura explained, using her exploding butterflies to keep the rogue from Yugakure at bay while trying to figure out a better plan of action at the same time.

Though she wasn't coming up with too many options, read that as basically none, to get out of this situation "Do you have a plan at least" Chojuro questioned, using his himarekarei to block the scythe that was thrown at him, while Sakura dropped and rolled back up onto her feet.

Probably trying to think of something, anything really that would help "Nope, I'm not really sure how to deal with someone who can stab himself repeatedly and not die, then somehow come out completely unscathed after what I did earlier" Sakura shook her head.

Feeling hopeless in that moment as they dodged the Yugakure ninja's attacks, suddenly the two of them were joined by Utakata after Ao had healed him and left to help the Leaf shinobi deal with the other Akatsuki member that had come along.

"So, what are we going to do exactly" Utakata inquired, using his bubble jutsu, much like Sakura's exploding butterflies to help in fending off their attacker while wracking his brain for an idea that would help them out.

The ground shattered beneath their feet, it was difficult to remain standing as Sakura destroyed the earth in her quest to aide them before an idea came to mind at long last "Hey you know that saying, the bigger they are the harder they fall" Sakura asked.

Confusing the pair of Mist shinobi "I've heard of it yes but how does that correlate to this situation" Utakata scoffed, nearly getting hit by the damn scythe until he was tackled by the rosette quite literally, pink hair fluttered in the breeze.

But at least she wasn't injured "Just distract him Utakata-san, Chojuro with me" Sakura rolled her eyes as she used her hiding in frost jutsu to decrease visibility and it was obviously irritating to the rogue from Akatsuki as he began shouting profanities at them for it.

Flailing his scythe around with the retractable cable because he no longer knew where they currently were "Alright Sakura what have you come up with" Chojuro asked, taking this moment to catch his breath, inwardly hoping that they made it out of this fight alive.

"Okay first, Utakata will be our distractor, he'll keep that guys focus entirely on him, I need you to remain hidden but I'll send a clone of myself to help Utakata out as I move underground with my chakra suppressed, when you see ice, don't think, just cut his damn head off" Sakura informed.

Literally just pulling that plan out of nowhere pretty much "And then we go help the others" Chojuro said earning a nod as Sakura made an ice clone then completely suppressed her chakra before tunneling underground, relenting with her cold mist.

Utakata grimaced as he faced the crazy Akatsuki guy all on his lonesome, 'Or not' he thought when Sakura showed up to help him out, though Chojuro remained suspiciously absent for the fight, not that it seemed the Akatsuki member really cared.

Considering they were after Jinchuuriki after all so the silver-haired rogue's attention was entirely on him, probably something Sakura was counting on "What the" Utakata gaped when the pinkette shattered into little shards of ice.

At the same time ice began creeping up the rogue's legs freezing him in place as it took over his entire body "MOVE UTAKATA-SAN" Sakura shouted from somewhere he didn't know when Chojuro dashed from his hiding place, Himarekarei held out, leaping away in the nick of time.

Gold eyes went wide in horror when the legendary blade sliced through the Yugakure shinobi's neck, cutting his head clean off his shoulders and Sakura crawled out of a hole in the ground "Let's go" Chojuro suggested.

Not about to stick around for any other Akatsuki members to show up now that one had seemingly been defeated "Oh Sakura it's awful, Tenten was injured badly, we don't think she's going to make it, not even Ao-san's medical ninjutsu can heal her" Lee cried.

When the other Mist-nin and Sakura showed up to find the blonde gone, while Team Gai crowded around the lone kunoichi of the team "This is not how I wanted to test this jutsu but I don't have a choice and I'm nearly out of chakra" Sakura sighed.

Marching forward and missing the arrival of Minato, Mito and Pakura as she was focused on Tenten and they all watched with baited breath when the rosette knelt at Tenten's side and formed hand signs for an unknown jutsu "Hyoton: Ice Chrysalis" Sakura murmured.

Using most of what she had left of her chakra for her untested medical ninjutsu as ice gathered around Tenten encasing her in a cocoon of sorts "Kami" Ao whispered, using his stolen dojutsu to see what was happening within the cocoon.

Tenten was being healed of her grievous injury, it was a slow process but when the task was complete like a butterfly emerging the cocoon cracked open and the brunette inside was revealed to be entirely healed and awake now.

Only then did Sakura allow herself to collapse "SAKURA" Minato leaped forward, catching her before she fell on her face while the others stood around trying to figure out what the hell had just happened really, especially Tenten.

Who could have sworn that she was going to die but somehow, she was alive and well to live another day "She healed you Tenten" Gai explained as he helped his kunoichi stand because they couldn't stay there for fear of being attacked again.

Luckily Minato was there as he carefully held Sakura and gestured for everyone to gather around "We need to get back to the village, quickly before anything else happens, so hands on shoulders please" Minato instructed calmly.

Even of the Mist Shinobi because it wasn't safe for them to go trekking about on their own "Just what the hell did that girl do anyway" Pakura asked as she carefully placed her hand on Minato's shoulder, Mito doing the same.

"Some untested medical ninjutsu she said but whatever it was, I'm glad for it" Neji admitted, guilt eating at him for how he'd treated her for the duration of their mission and for trying to peep on her like a pervert which wasn't him to be honest.

For now, though they really did need to get back to the village and a moment later they were back "Relax Tsunade, your student is fine, uninjured, low on chakra, but fine" Mito assured when Tsunade showed up less than a second later.

"I want an explanation now...take her to the hospital first, then I want that explanation" Tsunade demanded, before eyeing her unconscious apprentice and deciding she needed to be taken care of first before anything else.

As she stalked her way back to the tower and waited impatiently until everyone had gathered before her "We found Utakata easily enough Lady Hokage, it was after we split up that trouble showed up, the Akatsuki, two members to be precise" Ao informed.

"That doesn't explain how Sakura nearly depleted herself of almost all of her chakra" Tsunade snapped, avoiding breaking her desk for once while her shinobi and the Mist shinobi shuffled in front of her awkwardly.

Seeing that no one else was going to explain Ao sighed "To be honest I don't know everything that happened, I probably wouldn't be alive right now if not for her, the one we faced, ingested my blood and created some sort of internal link between us" Ao grimaced.

Because it wasn't easy to admit "He's right, I witnessed it for myself, every time he inflicted harm on himself, a wound showed up on Ao in the same exact place and somehow after Sakura managed to sever that link, he was completely unharmed with no injuries to take note of" Chojuro nodded.

Helping out a little "Don't look at me I was unconscious for that, I only know what happened after Ao healed me, that girl came up with a decent plan and Chojuro cut his head off, so we hurried to help them out" Utakata pointed his finger at Team Gai.

"And when we arrived Tenten-san was fatally injured, that's when Sakura-san used a jutsu, she called it Ice Chrysalis and it somehow healed Tenten-san of her injury" Chojuro finished, confused over the last bit because he didn't know exactly what it was that Sakura had done really.

Only the rosette could tell Tsunade what she wanted to know "What happened to the other Akatsuki member, the one that attacked you Gai" Tsunade narrowed her honey orbs on the eccentric Jonin under her command.

"Well after injuring Tenten he retreated, a little before those three showed up" Gai admitted, not really sure why the blonde, Deidara, he'd called himself had simply left, but they were fortunate that he had because it had been a tough fight, the little they did fight him anyway.

Tsunade scowled furiously "At least one good thing came out of this, Akatsuki is down by two with Itachi in the village and another dead, so for now good work, congratulations, now get the fuck out of my office" she demanded.

Making them scramble hurriedly from the room as she wrote a detailed report on the incident before going to check up on her apprentice "Shishou" Sakura was not so surprisingly awake, closing her eyes and probably bracing herself for a whack that would never come.

"You're off the mission roster Sakura, I can't keep having you get put in life-threatening situations on every single mission, so we'll focus on training and work at the hospital alright" Tsunade informed, hating to do this to one of her most capable.

But her heart couldn't take it any more to be honest "I understand, in fact I was going to ask you if I could be taken off of it when I saw you next" Sakura confessed tiredly, swiping a hand through her shortened hair, five inches had been taken off by that damn scythe and she was pissed about it.

Everyone seemed to love it when she had long hair "Good, now get some sleep Sakura, you have the next week and a half off to recover, also I want whatever kind of healing jutsu you used in writing got it" Tsunade demanded suddenly.

Sakura nodded and a moment later was out like a light, elsewhere in the village i.e., forest of death, upon learning the news of what had happened to his teammate again Sasuke decided that he needed to train even more to get even stronger in order to stand on equal footing with Sakura and Naruto.
