When Olivia walks into the kitchen the mixer is still going, bringing Mellie's pancake batter together, and Abby is working on the bacon and sausage.
Olivia smiles as she sees the food coming together and says, "Morning everyone. Looks like everything is taking shape."
They both say, "Morning!" and Abby adds, "Yeah everything is coming along. But can you cut up the potatoes for the home fries?"
She nods as she says, "Of course." Mellie then says, "And can you add onions too please?" Olivia responds, "Sure thing."
She grabs the cutting board and sits at the bar overlooking the kitchen as she gets to work and she sees Fitz and Harry chatting it up in the living room.
With everything going well she thinks, maybe he's right. Maybe she didn't hear anything. It certainly doesn't appear to be the case based on how chill she's being.
After getting her contribution done of cutting up the potatoes and onions, and getting them seasoned and cooked. The coffee order arrives and they all sit down to breakfast.
There's bacon, sausage and gravy, scrambled eggs with Gouda and cheddar cheese, home fries, biscuits, and death by chocolate pancakes.
The seamless preparation of the food shows up in the ending result. The meal is delicious which is evident by the initial silence at the table when everyone begins to enjoy their plates.
Harrison starts the chatter as he says, "Man, Mellie I forgot how good your pancakes are. You should sell this recipe to somebody."
She smiles as she replies, "Thanks Harry. It's my grandmother's recipe though, so I think my father would likely write me out of the will if I shared it."
They all laugh as Abby says, "Well, we will have to settle for you making them more often then."
Mellie replies, "That's something I can definitely agree to." Olivia responds, "Okay, we will definitely hold you to it, no backsies."
Mellie grins as she says, "No backsies. By the way, the home fries are good too Liv, nice touch with the fresh garlic." She nods as she replies, "Thanks, I love garlic, it makes everything taste better."
Fitz agrees as he responds, "Yes. It really does."
And Abby seconds that notion as she replies, "Amen!" Mellie quips, "Careful Abs, your Italian flag is waving." They all chuckle as Abby responds, "beh, lo sto volando in alto, amico mio." Harrison catches her off guard as he replies, "Esibirsi molto."
And she gives him a knowing look, as she responds, "solo un po." And he replies, "Molto sexy."
They both laugh leaving the others on the outside looking in, clearly they're having a moment among others, but Olivia wants in on the joke as she says, "Come on you two. Can we be let in on the conversation? I know what sexy means, but I'm lost everywhere else."
They all laugh at her remark as Fitz adds, "I'm not sure we're supposed to be in on this conversation given how that sounded and the word sexy was used."
Mellie nods as she replies, "Agreed, that sounded hot as hell! But at the same time, I'd love to know what it means." Abby and Harrison again share a look and agree to spill the beans.
Abby explains, "Okay people pipe down. In response to Mellie's flag comment I said, I'm flying my flag high my friend." And Harrison replies, "And I said show off much. To which Abby said, Just a little."
And Abby responds, "And he replied, Very sexy." All three of them smile as Mellie says, "Well damn, that sounded like a whole lot more for sure."
Olivia agrees as she adds, "That's for sure, well done you two. Harry I forgot you took Italian in high-school." Fitz replies, "Me too. I haven't heard you use it in a while."
Mellie responds, "Maybe he found the right woman to bring it out of him." Abby claps as she replies, "Hey now, that's a good comeback chica."
They all agree, that remark was funny and timely as Harrison responds, "Good one Mel."
The mood is light and fun and they continue to chat and eat together catching up on everything and anything. Until Olivia's phone goes off, and she sees the screen light up with an email icon.
She grabs it and checks her email, only to see the neighborhood watch newsletter advising the culprits behind the burglaries have been caught.
Fitz sees her looking at her phone and asks, "What's going on Liv?" She replies, "They caught the perpetrators who are responsible for the break-ins."
Mellie replies, "I'm sorry, what break-ins?" They all realize she was oblivious to that detail.
.Abby kindly explains, "There was a rash of break-ins going on in the development. It's been in the neighborhood emails for weeks."
She responds, "Gotcha, I guess I need to be more diligent about reading those emails huh?" Abby nods as she says, "It couldn't hurt. But the good thing is they've been caught."
She agrees as she replies, "Yeah, that's pretty scary though. I had no idea it was happening. Did they say what they were stealing?"
Olivia reads over the email as she replies, "Mostly valuables left unsecured like money or jewelry." Harrison adds, "Basically things they could fit in their pockets for easy transport."
Fitz nods as he says, "Exactly, they would've certainly been discovered much earlier walking around he neighborhood with a television set on their shoulders." They all laugh in agreement.
Their laughter quells as Fitz's phone rings and he checks the caller ID. He sees it's Drew and answers as he says, "Hey Drew. What's up?"
Drew responds, "Hey man, you won't believe what I just heard about Jake." He sits back in his chair and asks, "What about Jake?"
His tone causes everyone at the table to stop talking, and they're now listening. He sees them looking at him too. So he puts the phone on speaker as Drew says, "Man, I was in the locker room in the gym and over heard Rob and Jake talking."
Fitz adds, "That's never a dull moment." He laughs as he replies, "I know right. It was definitely interesting. Jake told Rob about his stint in county over the weekend."
Harry asks, "Wait, he's out already?" Fitz quickly replies, "Oh, I've got you on speaker bro. sorry, I forgot to announce it."
He nonchalantly responds, "It's cool man. Yeah Harry he got out Sunday night. His attorney made it happen." Olivia nods as she replies, "That's what a good, well paid attorney can do. They're practically on call 24/7." Abby inquires, "How did he afford one that had that kind of pull is what i'd like to know?"
Mellie adds, "i think we all would like to know that answer."
They all agree as Drew says, "For sure Mel. According to Jake his lawyer got him out of some serious trouble, so he won't face any jail time. But, check this out, he said Edison tried to set him up to go to jail for blackmail, but it didn't work because the attorney he thought Edison sent to defend him was able to argue the evidence didn't support the charge. So the charges were dismissed without prejudice."
Olivia and Fitz share a look as Mellie asks, "If Edison didn't send him an attorney who did?" Drew replies, "He doesn't know." Harry asks, "What do you mean he doesn't know?"
Drew laughs as he responds, "Exactly what I said bro. He told Rob the attorney who was defending him said he wouldn't reveal who was paying him.
So on one hand he's gotta be thankful the guy showed up, and got him off, because if what he's saying is true. Edison would've sent him someone who was guaranteed to tank his defense. But on the other hand, he has no idea who helped him stay out of jail or why they helped him."
Abby replies, "Holy shit, that's fucking diabolical!" Mellie responds, "Agreed Abs, now I want to know who's footing the bill. Because we all know there's no such thing as a free lunch." They all agree, it's a thought that's crossing all of their minds.
Drew confirms what everyone else is thinking as he says, "You're not the only one Mel. Anyway, the meat of this story for me is the fact that his buddy Edison set him up. My question is what did he do to warrant that response from him?"
That's what Olivia wonders too as she says, "That's the most pressing part of this whole situation. Because that move is career suicide if you're Edison."
Harrison nods as he replies, "Agreed, those two are almost peas in a pod, so if there's anything shady going on with Edison you know Jake is aware of all of the details."
Drew says, "Yeah I thought the same thing Harry. And based on how pissed off Jake seemed to be when he was talking about it. I think Edison is going to regret that move."
Everyone accepts his sentiment as Fitz replies, "There's no way Edison would turn his back on Jake unless he's sure Jake wouldn't rat him out or couldn't."
Olivia adds, "Or maybe he's unaware of what's happening to Jake?" Harrison asks, "How's that possible Liv?" She replies, "Because Edison isn't a planner, he's not patient enough."
Drew adds, "But his father would be." Olivia responds, "Yes. He would be."
Fitz adds, "And Barron would have more of a reason to want Jake gone, because he'd see him as an impediment to Edison's success. Getting rid of him now versus later would be the smart thing to do."
Olivia nods as she replies, "Correct, no time like the present and Edison wouldn't have a clue of what's happening because he's focused on the campaign."
Abby replies, "So do we really think Edison is clueless in all of this?"
Olivia responds, "It's definitely possible he's not clued in on every aspect of what's happening. But, that doesn't mean he'd be against it. He was bred to be a politician, so whatever it takes for him to achieve his political goals he's going to be in support of it."
Harrison says, "That's crazy."
Mellie adds, "That's the life of politics. It's absolute insanity most of the time, right Fitz?" He nods as he responds, "Yeah. it can get out of control pretty quickly if you're not careful."
Drew responds, "Damn, this is too intense. It's like watching a fucking crime drama."
They all laugh at his remark as Harrison adds, "Yeah man, and this is one I'm tuned in to until the end. I really want to see what happens. Because Jake isn't the brightest bulb on the tree, so he's probably trying to figure out how to get back at Edison since he thinks he hung him out to dry."
Abby responds, "If he's smart he will stay away from Edison especially with the possibility of extortion charges being refiled."
Olivia sighs as she replies, "Well, that would be common sense Abs, and as my mother says, common sense isn't always common."
They all share a laugh as Drew says,"Good one Liv. Well guys I've gotta get going. But I had to tell somebody about that crazy conversation."
Fitz replies, "Thanks for calling man. I'll talk to you later." He responds, "You're welcome. Take care everybody." Everyone says good bye and Fitz hangs up the call.
Mellie responds, "That was nuts." Harrison replies, "No kidding. And i feel like this is not going to end well for either Edison or Jake." Abby asks, "I get Jake, but why Edison?"
He responds, "Because if Edison's dad is behind the shunning of Jake, it's likely because he doesn't know the dirt that Jake has on Edison. And trying to throw him under the bus is only going to make him want to come after Edison more. At the same time, if Edison is totally in the know about what's going on, he's got balls the size of Texas to betray Jake. That dude doesn't believe in honor among thieves, and to be fair that whole loyalty thing goes out of the window when you try to put someone in prison."
Fitz nods as he replies, "Your argument makes sense man. Either way, this is a complete shit show for both of them."
They all agree, this is definitely set to not end well. There's a moment of silence before Harrison says, "With that said, whatever happens I can't say it's not deserved."
Abby replies, "Well said. they're both tools." Mellie is curious about one detail she's not certain of, so she asks, "Can someone tell me why Jake was in jail in the first place?"
Abby explains he got into a scuffle at the pool with some guys after they found the recording device strapped to his body. Someone called the police and they all got arrested for public intoxication, assault and he caught a charge for invasion of privacy via recording people without their consent."
Mellie responds, "Wow! That's incredible. He really is lucky to be out of jail." Olivia says, "Exactly, and its up to him to stay out of jail, but pride is a tricky beast. So I fully expect him to throw caution to the wind and try to get revenge, verses letting it go and moving on."
Harrison adds, "I'd be more surprised if he doesn't make a move, just to save face."
