Ch.41: FedUp

Twilight was frustrated.

This was not due to some sort of science experiment gone wacky, or because Midnight had made her mad. In fact, as she sat with Midnight within the apartment of the Dazzling's, Midnight had been pleasant company.

Twilight was still cautious, however. The nightmare she had the previous summer had repeated several times, and each time she always awoke with a gasp, screaming in fear.

And so, she sat on the couch with Midnight, but as far away as she could. Midnight was not bothered by this, though she was a bit annoyed herself.

That morning, Adagio made clear that she did not want Midnight to venture out.

"People still remember last spring" Adagio told her. "I don't want some random student screaming his head off and getting the cops. In time, we'll tell people."

The problem, of course, was that Midnight loved what she had seen of Manehatten. It was a fun community, and she wanted nothing more than to go out. For example, to the ice cream shop once it reopened in February.

Her thoughts were interrupted as Twilight dropped her phone lazily onto her right leg, blowing her hair back in annoyance. "Stupid FedEx!"

Midnight turned her head to her, away from the history show they were watching.

"What happened?"

Twilight crossed her arms.

"They said the package won't be at the house until tomorrow! It has already been a week for crying out loud!"

"What package?" Midnight said, interested. Just because she had been in Twilight's mind until recent days did not mean she always focused on the young lady's movements.

Twilight sighed.

"I bought David a class ring. It has a sapphire gem on it, along with his name. They said today it would be there, but nope! Tomorrow" she said, frustrated.

"I just...maybe I'm being silly. I just wanted to do something nice and kind for him, and I really want to tell him how I feel."

Midnight nodded. "Twilight. Twilight. I think you need to wait. David just got out of his relationship with Aria, and remember how big of a deal it was for him to do it. Be a friend to him for now, and strike when Cupid fires his arrow."

"So, Valentine's Day?" Twilight asked to clarify after a moment.

Midnight slowly nodded her head.

"I mean, if you need some romantic times now" Midnight offered, going to stand up.

Twilight quickly shook her head, shivering as Midnight stood in front of her.

"No..no Midnight! I can't have you. I..."

Midnight said nothing, only squatting.

"Twilight, I refuse to frown at you for what you feel right now. I know what it's like to be afraid of someone who could tear you apart. That is not important. What is? Your fear of me. I am asking something big here, but can I give you a hug?"

Twilight looked up, shocked by what she saw. Midnight, this demoness that nearly tore Pandestria apart, was crying.

"All I want is to understand. A demoness that walks amongst humans is usually not loved. We get used to it."

Twilight said nothing but stood. Slowly reaching her hands up, she quietly brushed a tear off of Midnight's face. This was a test to see what Midnight would do.

Twilight then opened her arms after a minute, enveloping them around Midnight. Midnight, stunned, looking to see Twilight embracing her.

"It will take time, Midnight. And we have plenty of it. My friends showed me that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Midnight. I need to see something. Like I saw in that nightmare, when it was just me and you. Do you have a crush on me?"

Midnight looked down at her.

She wiped her eyes. "Yes, I do. But I will not interfere with you and David. That is a promise."

Twilight smiled softly. "This feels nice, Midnight. Maybe one day, the three of us can just lay there in harmony, enjoying each other's company."

While Twilight still feared Midnight, the windows had been open to Heaven now. Midnight would respect what Adagio said. But before she unveiled herself to me on Thanksgiving, she would watch me from afar. Midnight closed her eyes.

"Oh Aeon, I wish we did not have to wait. But for now, I'm content."

Next up was Halloween.
