My Mind Palace had told me that this was the day.
May 2, 2008 had Jack and I running to catch a ride on the TARDIS before the Doctor hopped away.
Sexy welcomed me with open doors causing me to slide past the Doctor and Martha, the TARDIS had the swimming pool ready to catch me.
Sexy brought my suite closer, so I got changed into my old clothes since all the clothes I'd brought along were drenched.
It felt odd since my frame had matured since wearing the older clothes. Even if I could have sworn that Sexy must have made alterations because they fit just right.
I came into the console room to find the Doctor's jaw dropped and his eyes wide.
"I really need to stop falling in the swimming pool its becoming a habit."
I looked up to find the Doctor no longer where he had been instead he was bounding over like an over excited puppy. I stifled a laugh as I imagined him in floppy ears and a wagging tail.
"Hello again my Doctor."
I was enveloped in his arms holding me tight.
"You act more like it was you who didn't see me in ages than the other way around."
I waved over his shoulder at Martha, "Hi Martha."
I felt as the Doctor began to nuzzle my neck and I patted the back of his head.
"Don't be rude, its not just the two of us."
"Thank you for the bananas. I should have…"
I rocked back on my heels, "It was due to the timey wimeyness, its ok."
"No its not ok you've been all on your own."
"Well not really. I had a roommate and Jack would come to visit. Oh sh…Jack!" I turned and raced towards Sexy's doors only to be knocked back into the Doctor's arms as Sexy sped off somewhere.
"What's going on?" Martha called from the console.
The ship rocked back and forth and the Doctor held me securely to his body. When Sexy settled, the Doctor took my hand in his and raced toward the console.
He looked over the interface and then up at the ship's screen.
"We are accelerating into the future. 1 billion. 5 billion. Five trillion…fifty trillion? What? The year 100 trillion, that's impossible. We are going to the end of the universe."
"Well at least this known one." I whispered.
The Doctor looked shocked at my statement, "What?"
"You'll find nearly nothing is impossible."
The TARDIS settled and I walked over to the doors.
"We should leave. We should go." The Doctor stared, dazed.
"Why?" Martha asked.
"This is further than anyone's been before, further than the Time Lords have ever gone.
I shook my head before looking at the Doctor in the eyes, "All the more reason to explore the unknown."
The Doctor was still gazing somberly off into the distance.
"Well if you are not going. I am."
I went to open the TARDIS's doors, but they wouldn't budge.
"Come on Sexy, don't do this right now." I looked up back at her heart.
'You are going to leave again.'
'The sooner I go, then sooner I can come back.'
The locks released reluctantly and Sexy let me walk outside, the Doctor and Martha following after me.
I looked around looking for CJ only to find him lying a couple of paces away.
'That was a bit rude, Sexy.'
"Oh my God!" Martha ran towards where Jack lay.
"What was that with you and the TARDIS?"
The Doctor looked over me, lips pulled down in a frown and hands in his suit pockets.
"She didn't want to let me go. She missed me."
"I missed you."
I looked over at thim to find his brown eyes peering at me with an intensity I had missed.
"I missed you too. You speak as if you haven't seen but you have."
We watched as Martha raced back into the TARDIS and then came out with a med kit.
The Doctor neared me, his arm brushing against mine, "It's not been the same, you never stay long."
"I'm not sure why it has to be this way, seeing people out of order. I must time jump often in the future but this time I took the long way."
I'd long begun to suspect that it was something set in every Rose Tylers' timeline. At some point we would be separated from the Doctor, I had already cheated the system with my gift of Time but it came with a price. He would get to see me regularly but there would be times I wouldn't see him for a long time.
The Doctor pulled me to face him, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Not from 1953?"
"No, 1963."
The Doctor's eyes widened, "But that would make you…"
"68."
He shook his head, "You don't look…"
A loud gasp interrupted, followed by CJ's voice.
"Captain Jack Harkness. And who are you?"
We looked over at Jack holding Martha's chin grinning up at her.
"He never changes, ol' CJ."
I spoke just as the Doctor did.
"Oh don't start."
Martha smiled back at the Doctor, "I don't mind."
CJ stood with Martha's help nodding toward the Doctor who looked at him with narrowed eyes.
"Doctor."
"Captain. I hear you've been keeping Rose company."
I rolled my eyes, "Oh now you don't start, Doctor."
"I need to fix that tech brace of yours Captain, don't need any more time jumpers."
Jack stepped back away from the Doctor, "Don't fiddle with my tech Doctor."
Martha leaned toward me, "So how do they know each other?"
"Oh CJ would travel with us, along with my brother Mickey."
"Why not anymore?"
"Oh Jack is not one to stay under another's command for long. Likes to spread his wings and fly."
We started walking down the hill from where the TARDIS had parked.
Jack looked behind at us as he walked in front with the Doctor, "Talking about flying Rose. Remember paragliding off Everest. Boy, were the Nepali government agents mad. Fun times."
I laughed, "But they couldn't catch us before we crossed the border into China."
The Doctor cleared his throat and I gave him an apologetic smile.
"So when did you meet up with Rose?" The Doctor glanced at Jack.
"Left 2007 shortly before you and Mickey went off with our Rose. Aimed for 1969 and got it on the first try, visited Rose, got carted off to Torchwood because of her ol' roommate. Didn't see Rose again til 1977, we saw Star Wars. Then I visited off and on through the years then we went travelling from 1986 to 2004."
Martha's eyes widened, "But that would make you both…"
"Older than we look." Jack winked.
We came to a ledge overlooking a great canyon.
"Is that a city?" Martha looked over.
"City or a hive or a nest or a conglomeration." The Doctor rattled off.
I looked over the pathways and the window-like openings, "It looks rather organic, as if it was grown from the rock instead of carved."
"The pathways or roads indicate there was some sort of life here, long ago." The Doctor looked in the same direction as I had.
I looked up shivering as I saw the starless night. It just felt wrong.
I could feel the Doctor's gaze upon mine, worried lines appearing on his forehead. "All the stars have burnt up and faded away into nothing."
"There still has to be some sort of atmospheric shell." Jack pointed at the skies, "Or we'd have frozen to death…well maybe not me or Rose."
"Rose?" The Doctor looked at me inquisitively.
"High tolerance to extreme temperatures, heat or cold. One of the quirks I get, I suppose."
Martha looked curiously at Jack and I before she looked at the Doctor.
"What about all the people? Some must have survived right?"
"Life always finds a way, Martha Jones." I spoke up.
Jack pointed, "Well he's not doing too bad."
We looked down at a human running for his life as a group ran after him.
"Great! Just great cannibals!"
Jack and I had a close call once and it wasn't one I'd like to repeat.
We ran towards the man.
Jack shouted excitedly, "I've missed this!"
The man ran towards us and shouted, "Run to the silos!"
The Doctor looked back toward where Sexy sat to see more hunters coming from that direction.
"Silos it is then."
We ran until we reached a barbed wire fenced compound.
Men with guns pointed at us shouting, "Show us your teeth."
All of us grinned wide showing our teeth before we were let in.
