Thanks to Jack's old time agent tech we were able to get back to the 21st century with only a few bruises from when we fell back into the present.
While the others groaned I couldn't help a bit invigorated as if I had a boost of adrenaline.
"Well at least we made it back to 21st century London, pretty lucky." Jack looked around the alley we landed in.
"Wasn't luck, I helped." The Doctor raised from where he had been bent over.
We walked out into the street looking around, passing by a fish and chips place causing Jack and my stomachs' to grumble.
"How can you be hungry right now?" Martha held her middle like she still felt sick from the time travel. "This master bloke could be anywhere in time and space now."
"No." The Doctor and I said at the same time.
The Doctor looked around brow furrowed, "He's here."
"He's Harold Saxon." I spoke up.
A wide screen across the square introduced Harold Saxon alongside his smiling blonde wife.
"He's the prime minister of Great Britain." The Doctor spoke.
Harold's voice came through the speakers, "This country has been sick. This country needs healing, in fact I would even say the country needs a doctor."
"He's calling you out, Doctor." Jack looked at the screen alongside the rest of us.
I looked at the three, worried about what was to come. I had changed things but I wasn't sure what.
When we made it to Martha's, the Doctor was quick to get on Martha's computer.
I looked around the room, "I don't think we are safe here."
Jack walked over to the Doctor, "I'll show you Saxon's website, he's been around for a while."
"Will anyone listen to me, its not safe here."
I closed my eyes and looked behind the door for these events.
I opened them with a gasp.
"Martha, your family."
Martha looked up from listening to her message machine.
"What do you mean?"
The Doctor and Jack kept discussing how long the Master had been around in the 21st in the background.
I looked at Martha, "I think they are in danger."
Jack went to the kitchen grabbing everyone tea when the kettle went off.
"If he's had the TARDIS then he could have gone back decades and been here all along."
Martha paced, "But he's here for some reason, why?"
"I think its me." I spoke up.
It looked like the Doctor was going to say something when Jack stood to turn up the volume of Martha's television we'd had set to the news as soon as coming in.
Harold Saxon looked out the screen like he was looking over his kingdom, "Britain, Britain, Britain. What extraordinary times we have had. This world used to be so small, and then they came. Out of the unknown. Falling from the skies. You've seen it happen. Big Ben destroyed. A spaceship over London, the Christmas Star that came to kill. Time and time again the government told you nothing. Well not me, not Harold Saxon, because my purpose here today is to tell you this: Citizens of Great Britain, I have been contacted. I've received a message from beyond the stars…"
Please no, please tell me he didn't.
The screen panned to a humanoid figure with a shiny gold helmet with flat facial features and android body. It looked like some droid from Star Wars.
"People of Earth. We bring tech, wisdom, and protection. All we ask for is your friendship." The voice was robotic and obviously synthesized.
"How sweet. This species has identified themselves as the Toclafane."
I slumped back in my seat. He hadn't created a paradox. I had a feeling I would be able to feel if there was one, this world's song would sound wrong.
But he was still putting on an elaborate show. Were his motives the same as what I'd seen behind the door? Trying to create a new empire of Time Lords, conquering the stars?
First he would need an army.
My eyes widened, "Martha, weren't you going to vote for him?"
"I was too." Jack raised his hand.
Martha tapped her fingers against the sofa's arm as she looked off into the distance, "There was just something in his voice. He had good policies.
I can't seem to remember what they were though."
I looked at the Doctor, pointing to Martha's tapping.
If the Master had been here longer than the door's 18 months, then what kind of allegiance could he have received in that amount of time.
The tv news continued with Saxon's voice, "Diplomatic relations with a new species will begin. Tomorrow, we take our place in the universe. Every mother, child, farmer, lorry driver and oh I don't know medical student."
The Doctor's eyes widened looking behind the tv to see the bomb, "Everyone out!"
As soon as we were out Martha was calling her family.
No sooner had she gotten us in the car she called her sister next.
After losing contact with her sister, she growled at the Doctor.
"He's taking them all! It's all your fault!"
I sat in the backseat with Jack.
"No its mine."
Martha drove like mad to her parent's house and when she reached the house the road was barricaded off with men with guns.
A blonde woman in a sharp suit stood out among them, she stepped forward with a megaphone. "Release the hostage or we will shoot."
"What are they talking about? They are the ones who took my family!"
The Doctor leaned over, "Martha, reverse."
I looked at Jack at my side and he gave me a reluctant nod. I unlocked my side door, unbuckled and jumped from the moving vehicle. I rolled over before I stood carefully raising my hands above my head.
"Stand down, men." The blonde agent spoke to the armed personnel.
As I walked closer I watched as the woman took a cell phone and spoke into it, "I have Rose Tyler, sir."
Martha's car made a quick getaway behind me as I continued toward the government agents.
They came on either side of me and escorted me into the back seat of a black SUV.
I was brought into Downing Street, and directed to the newly rebuilt Cabinet room. The blonde agent knocked on the door, "We have her, sir."
The door opened to a grinning Master.
He grabbed my arm pulling me into the room before slamming the door shut on the woman's face.
The Doctor's voice echoed from the conference call machine at the centre of the meeting room's table.
"I've been alone ever since, but not anymore. All we've got is each other. You could stop this right now. We could leave this planet."
The Master's dark brown eyes widened as he saw my features drop.
"Did you hear that my Marion, he'd abandon you. I'll never abandon you."
There was a quick intake of air over the speaker, "Rose! Are you there? Why did you leave?"
"Oh Doctor, did she never tell you about our little deal?"
"Rose, you can't trust anything he says."
The Master pouted his hand against his chest, "Oh I'm hurt."
"You can have me, let Rose go!"
The Master threw his head back in laughter, "Now why would do a silly thing like that?"
He grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me through the room towards his office. He pushed me into a room that had looked like a closet from the outside but had a small bed and a curtain covering an opening in the back, no doubt the water closet.
I shivered as I heard the metal rattle as the Master closed a barred door behind me. Not again, please not again.
"Please don't lock me up. I came to you willingly."
I went to grab him but he danced out of the way.
"The drums. Can you hear them, sweet Rose? The endless drumming."
[The Doctor]
The Doctor, Martha and Jack were hunkered down in an old abandoned warehouse.
"Were you aware she knew him?" Martha looked to the Doctor whose hands clenched at his sides.
"I…" He ran his hands through his hair tugging at the ends as a frustrated growl escaped him.
"She told me once, and well…" Jack metered off, not sure how much to tell. He winced as he asked, "Can we trust her?"
Martha looked from the silent Doctor to Jack, "She would never do something that would ultimately cause harm to the doctor. Everything she's ever done was to protect him."
"That's what worries me…to what lengths Rose would go." Jack looked at the Doctor, "He's keeping her by his side for more than insurance. Even back when he was Professor Yana he looked at her like…" Jack metered off seeing a dark look cross over the Doctor's features.
"Like she's his." Martha finished Jack's thought.
The Doctor clenched his fist, nails biting into his palms. "That is something I'll never allow her to be!"
Martha looked at the Doctor with an indignant expression crossing her features, "Excuse me. Allow her?"
"Doctor?" Jack looked worriedly at the Doctor who's features had become a blank before his eyes narrowed looking into the distance.
The Doctor stood, "It's time to put an end to his playing with those I care about."
