Luna sat at the edge of Breeze Peak's farmland, she was smiling as she watched two Bunnelbys chase each other around in a small clearing. The sound of rocks grinding against dirt filled the air as she heard the boots of a familiar person approach and sat up to greet them.
"Hope I didn't keep you waiting long!" Said Blake in her usual Leather and cotton attire.
"Not at all!" Luna smiled as she got to her feet.
The nearby Bunnelby's scurried away at the sudden commotion.
"I was surprised that you wanted a rematch so soon! You sure I can't tempt you to take a couple of more days to relax here in town?"
"Nah, but thanks!" Luna dusted off her butt, "Being a trainer is busy work, and I enjoy it that way. I spent most of my life cooped up in the same small town, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the region too!"
Blake nodded, "Yeah, I was like that when I first started out too! And I'm not going to try and tell you what to do but, try to take it slow from time to time, okay? You're young and can go full speed for quite a while. But eventually, there comes a burnout. And then it becomes pretty hard to start back up again."
Luna could tell the Gym Leader was speaking from experience just from her tone, "Thank you, Blake. I'll try my best to remember that."
"That's all I could hope for!" She smiled at the trainer in front of her, "Alright, let's get started. Shall we?"
Blake and Luna walked to opposite ends of the rural dirt battlefield they had battled at the day before yesterday. The familiar farmer stepped up from the side of the fence and lifted his handkerchief, "This Battle is Between Gym Leader Blake an-"
"I-It's okay, Phill. You don't have to say the whole thing!" Blake shouted out to the Ref.
Phill scrunched up his mustache and grumbled to himself, a bit upset he didn't get to finish his line.
"Just... Fight." he discouragingly waved down his handkerchief and went back to eating his sandwich.
Blake threw out her Gloom onto the battlefield while Luna threw out Casper.
"Switching it up this time?" asked Blake.
"New strats!" Luna replied confidently.
Blake smirked, knowing that it was time to start treating Luna as a Challenger and not as a friend.
"Gloom, Poison Powder!" she ordered and her Gloom shook its plant-like hair as a poison cloud was emitted.
"Casper, Fairy winds to blow it away and follow up with Aerial Ace!" yelled Luna.
The Togetic fluttered above the poison cloud drifting his way and used his wings to blow the Poison cloud out of the arena. The gust of pink wind blew away the poison from the area he'd focused on surrounding the Gloom, but didn't get rid of it entirely.
Luna knew this was probably due to Fairy Winds being not effective against Poison Types but she was grateful that it worked in any regard.
Casper then followed through and dove downwards towards the Gloom, his wings engulfed in white energy as he sped up.
"Dodge it!" shouted Blake.
But it was too late, Casper landed a direct hit with the Gloom who tumbled onto the ground.
"Don't let up! Keep it going!" cheered Luna.
"Toge!" shouted back Casper as he flew reared back around for another attack.
This time the Gloom was prepared and shot off an Acid attack at the incoming Togetic. Casper closed his eyes as he dove straight into the attack, becoming covered in the stinging liquid. He made sure to trade attacks as he collided head-on with the Gloom, both Pokemon crashing onto the floor.
The Gloom seemed pretty hurt by the attack but quickly got to its feet while Casper tried to get a grasp on the situation after the crash.
"Use Razor Leaf!" Yelled Blake.
"Ancient Power!" shouted Luna.
Both Pokemon readied their attacks and a torrent of plant and rock matter began to litter the area as they both shot off their attacks. Casper took the brunt of the Razor leaf attacks that made it past his ancient power but it didn't hurt him as much as he expected and kept firing off Ancient Power until it finally overpowered the Gloom's attack.
The Gloom was barraged by Casper's Ancient Power and was buried in rocks after he had finished.
"C-Crap! Gloom you okay?" Blake shouted out, unable to see her Pokemon under the pile of rocks.
The rubble eventually fell away and revealed the unconscious Gloom. Blake sighed and returned her Pokemon to its ball.
"Alright, Jumpluff, you're up!" Blake threw out her next Pokemon.
The Jumpluff floated happily in the air, seeming to dance with the breeze as it floated.
"Jumpluff, Seed Bomb while he's still grounded!" ordered Blake.
"W-Wait a minute!" yelled Luna, "Casper get out of there!"
Casper immediately began to lift off the ground but was hit by the falling Seed Bomb from above. Casper somehow managed to stay afloat as he flew out of the range from the rest of the attack and floated up to the same level as Jumpluff.
"Set up your Stun Powder!" Blake shouted as her Pokemon shooked its pollen-poms and the yellow powder began to fill the air.
"Aerial Ace, Casper! Fly above it if you can!" yelled Luna.
Casper nodded, flying high above the attack, learning not to go anywhere below the enemy Pokemon. He gathered speed as he began flying down towards the Jumpluff with white energy gathered at his wings.
"Counter it!" Shouted Blake.
"What?" muttered a confused Luna, thinking of a way that the Jumpluff could counter his attack.
Abruptly Green Energy gathered around the Jumpluff as Casper collided with it.
Luna gasped as she realized that Jumpluff was using Giga drain as the two Pokemon traded attacks. Casper felt the last bit of energy he had sapped from him as he crashed into the dirt below. After the dirt cleared, they all could see as the Pokemon struggled to get back to his feet.
"You did good, Buddy! But you're not in shape to fight anymore." Luna smiled as she returned her Pokemon.
Luna took a moment to think of her next decision, "Okay. Slither, let's go!"
The Salandit popped out of his Pokeball, landing on all fours before hissing at the Jumpluff in the sky.
Blake smirked, "I know you have the type advantage here, Luna. But don't underestimate my Jumpluff! Use Bullet Seed!"
The still-smiling Jumpluff shot out the attack from its poms and it rained down onto Slither.
"Dodge it," Luna told her mon.
Slither slipped past the spray of stray bullets and managed to use scratch to deflect some of the attacks with ease. The spray of the attack seemed to be not as concentrated thanks to the long distance that the Jumpluff was attempting to attack from.
"Fine, if that doesn't work we can still stun him! Use Stun powder, Jumpluff! Cover the entire field!" commanded Blake.
Luna smirked as a thought came to mind, "Slither, back all the way up to me, stay out of the cloud of pollen!"
Slither listened to his trainer and ran as a thick yellow cloud of the Jumpluff's Pollen slowly began to fill the entire area.
"You're setting yourself up for failure, Luna! If you let Jumpluff engulf the entire arena with its pollen, then even your Ledian will be paralyzed the moment it's released from its Pokeball!" Blake warned.
Luna began to talk a few steps back as she watched the cloud of pollen now take up two-thirds of the battlefield as the Jumpluff continued to pour out Stun Powder.
She then smirked, "Hey, Blake? Ever heard of a dust explosion? Slither, now!"
Blake's eyes widened at the sudden realization, "Jumpluff, fly up!"
Slither released an Ember attack into the thick yellow cloud of Pollen, igniting it entirely causing a huge explosion that engulf the Jumpluff as it tried to escape. The force of the explosion shook the ground beneath Luna's feet and the sheer heat of it made it feel like her eyebrows would be singed off. Luna covered her face instinctively with her hands as she fell back from the force of the attack.
Luna watched Slither standing proud, cackling to himself as the smoke began to clear and she watched as the now black and burnt Jumpluff fell to the ground after being propelled up into the air like a comet out of the explosion. The Jumpluff hit the ground with a plain thud.
Luna forced herself up, nearly tripping as she ran onto the battlefield.
"Fuck! Did I just kill her Jumpluff!?" Luna thought as she ran to Blake's Pokemon. Luna could see Blake doing the same as she ran to her Pokemon's aid.
Blake slid onto the ground and lifted her Pokemon up, she took a large crystal out from her pocket and pressed it against its body. Immediately, Jumpluffs body seemed to react from just the touch of the crystal as it absorbed it into its skin.
"I'm so sorry!" Luna began to tear up, believing she had just murdered Blake's Jumpluff.
"It's alright! It's okay!" said Blake, she looked up at Luna with a calm expression.
Suddenly the Jumpluff burst back to life as if Blake had just given it a shot of adrenaline.
"Jumpluff!" it shouted as it gasped for air.
Luna jumped back in shock that the Pokemon had arisen from the dead.
"See!" Blake herself gave a sigh of relief, "Good as new!"
"W-What!? They're okay!? I'm so sorry!" Luna shouted.
"Damn!" shouted Phill from the sidelines, "Thought she was a goner, myself!"
"Phill!" Blake barked at the older gentleman, "Not helping!"
Blake looked over her Jumpluff, who was now visibly shaken from the explosion. Blake sighed as she patted the Pokemon on the head and returned it to its Pokeball.
"Y-you're not angry?" asked a still nervous Luna.
Blake gave an anxious and choppy chuckle, "I'm not angry, Luna. Just... Very Surprised. I mean, you totally got me back there! I did not see that explosion coming at all!"
Blake smiled as she got back to her feet and patted Luna on the shoulder, "That was incredible. How fast did you come up with that?"
"W-Wait. What about your Jumpluff!? You're not upset about them getting hurt?" Luna asked frantically, completely confused at Blake's attitude towards the situation.
"I used a max revive on her! She'll be okay for now. I mean, sure if that didn't work then I would've been quite upset, but it worked! So we're good!"
"We're good...?"
"Yeah." smiled Blake, "And even if the Max revive didn't work, I wouldn't have ever put that blame on you Luna. There is a risk we take as Gym Leaders, and our Pokemon are constantly put in the face of danger, but thankfully Pokemon are much hardier than us humans and can be healed a thousand times faster."
"O-Oh, but still, I'm sorry! I really didn't think the explosion would have been that big."
Blake's attitude changed, "Okay, enough about the explosion. Let's finish the battle."
"F-finish the battle?"
"Yep, Come on, Luna. Get a hold of yourself, girlfriend. Let's go."
Luna awkwardly stepped back to her side of the battlefield. In the distance, she could make out a few people making their way toward her and Blake from the town road.
"A-Alright," said Luna, "I'm ready!"
Blake nodded and silently threw out Scovillain.
"Slither, back into position!" ordered Luna.
The Salandit had a very pleased expression on his face as he readied himself and dashed forward.
The Scovillain roared from both of its heads as it charged forth toward Slither.
"Slither, use scratch!"
"Headbutt!" ordered Blake.
Slither leaped at the Scovillain and held its claw back as it readied to lunge forward but was hit from the side with one of Scovillains heads.
Slither used his claws to hold his ground but was hit again and again with a flurry of Headbutts from the enemy Pokemon.
Luna was still shaken up from earlier as she tried to think of something to tell her Pokemon. She forced herself to take a deep breath to keep herself from panicking.
"Slither, use ember, and leap back!"
"Firefang!" shouted Blake.
Slither did as he was told and used Ember and simultaneously leaped back from the Scovillain but the Scovillain ran through the attack with its jaws wide open, it bit down on Slither as he was still midair and slammed him into the ground, knocking him unconscious.
Luna grew even more nervous now. She returned Slither to his Pokeball. Her hand shook as she reached for Aphid's ball.
"Luna!" shouted Blake, "Focus!"
Luna looked up at Blake from across the field.
"You fought hard to win this so far! Are you just gonna let this victory slip past your fingers!? In this line of work, you can't be afraid! Not for yourself. Not for your Pokemon. And especially not for your enemies!" Blake shouted from across the battlefield, "Now are you gonna quit!? or what!?"
Luna took in Blake's words and held onto them as she reached down and grabbed Aphid's Pokeball, "Hell no!" she shouted confidently, throwing Aphid's ball up into the air.
"Ledian!" shouted Aphid as he sprung forth from his ball mid-air.
Blake smirked, "So you were training, after all!"
"Yeah! Let's show her what we've got, Aphid!"
Luna's Ledian nodded and pumped his fists, he felt more energized than ever and had a new assertiveness about him ever since he evolved and even more so after his experience with his trainer last night.
"Mach Punch!" yelled Luna.
"Flame thrower!" shouted Blake.
Aphid's wings buzzed loudly as he zipped forward, he spiraled around the Scovillains attack as his Mach Punch connected with the Green Head of the Pokemon.
"Fire Fang!" Shouted Blake.
The Scovillain shook off the previous attack and immediately began to lunge at Aphid with its fiery maw. The Ledian swiftly flew from side to side with each of the enemy's bites, avoiding them. Aphid quickly followed up his dodge with an uppercut to the Green Head of the Scovillain, but as he landed his attack the Red Head's Fire Fang got a clean hit on him and then slammed him into the ground angrily.
Aphid was tossed a bit and got to his feet before seeing Scovillain leaping down on him. Aphid rolled out of the way in time before the enemy crashed down on him.
"Flamethrower!"
The Scovillian immediately burst out a cone of fire at Aphid who instinctively flew straight up and barely dodged the attack.
"Good Job, Aphid! Use Swift!" yelled Luna.
The Ledian used its fists to call forth the star-shaped energy and the attack then swirled around the Scovillain's flames and collided directly with the Pokemon.
"Scovillain!" roared the Pokemon as it grew even angrier.
Out of anger, the Pokemon used Leafage, and large plant-like blades sprung from its body as it threw it like discs up at Aphid.
"Dodge!" warned Luna.
Aphid spun around each of the attacks as it easily predicted each of the attack's trajectories.
"Don't let your anger get the best of you Scovillian!" Blake told her Pokemon.
"Mach Punch!" Luna called out.
Aphid nodded and began flying fast down toward the enemy.
"Try and Grab him with your Green Head and use Flamethrower with your Red one!" shouted Blake.
Aphid speedily landed a hit against the Pokemon's Red Head. The attack seemed to do a bit of damage as it took a moment for the Pokemon to react.
The Scovillains green head managed to clamp down on Aphid's right arms.
"Aphid get out of there!" Luna told the Pokemon.
Aphid struggled to break free from the Scovillain's hold as its Red Head, slowly recovered from the attack and fire began to foam from its jaw.
Aphid realized that it was now or never and began releasing a flurry of Mach Punches at the Pokemon's Red Head as it was trying to unleash a Flamethrower attack.
A bright light was emitted from Scovillians jaw as it took Mach Punch after Mach Punch from the two free arms of the Ledian in its grasp. Scovillian blasted forth its Powerful Flamethrower attack with its open mouth mere inches away from Aphid. But all that spewed from the Red Scovillain's maw was a puff of smoke as the Pokemon collapsed onto the floor.
Aphid stood a bit confused and was ready to attack once more but was sidelined by Luna who swept up her Pokemon and kissed his cheek.
"You did it! You won!" Luna hopped up and down as she held her Pokemon tightly against her.
Blake sighed looking a bit disappointed at the results of the battle, "Hey Ref, mind doing your job and announcing the winner?"
Phill wiped his mouth with his handkerchief after finishing his sandwich, "Oh, now you want me to be the Ref?" he spoke snarkily.
"Don't fucking start with me, Phill!" Blake glared at the man.
Phill grumbled as he stood up, "By total and utter knockout, Luna is declared the winner."
Blake rolled her eyes at Phill before walking up to Luna, "Well, I think this belongs to you now."
Luna held out her hand and accepted the Windmill-shaped badge that Blake handed her, "It's so cute!"
"Laudrie helped me design it! Glad you think so!" replied Blake who then held out her hand to Luna.
Luna got the gist and stopped celebrating for a moment to shake Blake's hand firmly.
The two looked each other in the eyes with mutual respect for one another as a voice rang out.
"Blakey! What the hell was that explosion!?" Shouted Laudrie as she hopped over the small wooden fence and onto the field.
Luna spotted Gilly not far behind Laudrie.
"Please tell me that was you!" Gilly looked excited as she ran up to Luna.
Luna scratched the back of her head, "Yeah... Not the smartest thing I've done."
"Are you kidding? That was badass! We saw the explosion from town, it was nuts!" Gilly punched Luna's shoulder playfully.
Luna whispered to Gilly, "Y-Yeah, but I almost killed her Jumpluff!"
Gilly leaned in to listen then laughed loudly, "Pfft! Nah! Pokemon are way harder to kill than that! Plus, Gym Leaders always carry revives on them just in case anything serious happens! I do too! I can't tell you the number of times I've had to pull Pokemon from the brink of death because Heidi went all out!"
Luna wasn't sure if what she was hearing made her feel any better, but it definitely made her view Gilly in a whole new light, "O-Oh! R-Really?"
Blake and Laudrie walked up to Luna.
Laudrie started, "Congratulations Luna, it's not an easy task to beat Blake. That explosion of yours was a necessary part of your win today. But, please don't go around doing that to random trainers... They might not get so lucky as to have a revive on hand..."
"Y-Yes, Ma'am! I won't!" Luna laughed awkwardly.
"Seriously, that was a great battle, Luna. Good Job." added Blake, "But we should get all of our Pokemon healed up, let's head back into town."
"R-right!" Luna said as she followed Blake and Laudrie back to the Pokemon Clinic.
After an hour, Gilly properly treated both Luna's and Blakes's Pokemon and restored them to full health. Laudrie examined each of the Pokemon after Gilly had treated them for quality assurance.
"I have to say," spoke Laudrie, "I'm surprised at your skill!"
"That poor Jumpluff's coat was blackened too, I wasn't totally sure I'd be able to restore its normal color so quickly!" replied Gilly.
Laudrie nodded, "Now you can see how much more effective naturally made cures can be versus those being mass produced, at least in Pokemon's case anyhow."
"Yeah, yeah. Lesson learned..." sighed Gilly.
"The attitude could use some help, but unfortunately for me, I can't necessarily put that against your score."
"Thank Arceus for that!" Luna laughed as she stood by the doorway.
"H-Hey!" pouted Gilly.
"Well," Laudrie walked over and handed her two sheets of paper, "these are yours now."
Gilly looked at the first paper in her hands, claiming that she had passed her intermediate exam. She quickly flipped over to the next page and saw that it was a letter of recommendation.
"Thank you, Laudrie!" Gilly smiled, "But I don't understand. Is the recommendation letter for another class?"
"Sort of." smiled Laudrie, "I'd like you to study under a friend of mine, Doctor Jules. He lives in Cobalt City just north of here.
Luna was looking at her GPS when she heard the city being mentioned and saw that it was Ninety-two miles away to the north.
"That's gonna be a couple of days of walking..." Luna whispered to herself.
Blake walked up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder, "There's a decent-sized town on the way up to the city called, Roseview. It'll give you a chance to rest, and the town itself is beautiful as well!"
"O-Oh, thanks, Blake!" Luna smiled.
"It is a shame that you two are already ready to leave... Would you at least stay over for dinner again?" Laudrie asked, slowly coming out of her teacher mentality.
Gilly shrugged as she looked back to Luna for confirmation.
Luna smiled and nodded, "Sure! We can spend another night in town!"
"Yay!" Laudrie immediately cheered, happy for the extra time with her friends.
"B-But, we're not sleeping over," added Gilly.
Blake coughed at Gilly's comment.
Laudrie blushed, "You're so mean... I apologized!"
Luna and the others all went back to Blake and Laudrie's home and enjoyed a home-cooked meal, after everyone finished eating, they sat at the dining room table enjoying each other's company.
"So that's when my dad fell on his ass!" Blake laughed as she finished telling a story.
"I remember he was so angry after that," added Laudrie, "I don't think I'd ever seen his face so red before!"
"I mean, I would be too if a Mankey stole my food!" Giggled Luna.
"I mean honestly, same here." said Gilly, "And not to interrupt, but I did want to ask something."
Blake raised her brow, "Sure, go ahead!"
Gilly leaned forward in her seat, "You two have been married for a couple of years now right?"
"Yeah, almost five years now," replied Blake. "Why?"
"Well I know that everyone is different, but I was worried about getting into relationships of my own. And my Parents divorced when I was young, so I wanted to know both of your opinions on making a relationship work?"
"Oh!" said Laudrie as she smiled and took Blake's hand, "Well, it's like you said. Everyone is different, that's for sure. But, I think that it depends on both of the partners involved, right hun?"
Blake nodded, "Yes, but I think that communication is a major factor as well. I have to say, Gilly, I'm surprised you asked. Is there someone special that you have in mind?"
Luna leaned in and listened closely.
Gilly sighed, "I don't have anyone in mind like that right now. But after I'm done focusing on completing my training, I know I want to find someone. It's just... I wanna be prepared for a long-term relationship. My past relationships lasted a couple of months maximum, but I think it was because I was too focused on being a Pokemon Trainer. I don't know..."
"Don't beat yourself up over past relationships," said Laudrie, "I had a hard time with Partners as well before I met Blakey!" she leaned over and kissed her wife's cheek.
Blake blushed, "And I think once you find the right partner for you, then everything will fall into place and everything just... seems right. But I'm not trying to say that it doesn't take a lot of effort from both sides, it does. But meeting the right person for you does make it easier."
Gilly sat and took in the information, "Hmm. Does it feel easy for the two of you? Being married and all?"
Laudrie smiled, "I can't speak for Blake, but it feels completely natural to me."
Blake squeezed Laudries hand lovingly, "I agree, it's as easy as can be."
Luna smiled, "You two are the cutest!"
The couple smiled and looked at one another, almost confirming to one another how lucky they felt.
Gilly saw the room was getting a little too cutesy for her tastes and smirked evilly, "Well, I can certainly tell you're keeping your sex lives exciting."
Luna squeezed her lips shut and leaned back in her chair, and started avoiding eye contact as soon as she heard that.
Laudrie's face burned redder than before as she held her wife's hand tightly, she sat with a nervous smile on her face as she tried to keep her composure.
Blake smirked and glared back at Gilly, knowing that she was trying to embarrass them on purpose, "Oh, yeah we do. It's always spicy and never gets boring, that's for sure."
"Would you care to explain how you like to keep it 'spicy'?" Gilly responded calmly, now curious to see how much info she would get out of this game of "Chicken".
"Sure! We don't mind spilling some details, do we, babe?" Blake looked to her wife for confirmation.
Laudrie quickly understood what was happening but still spoke nervously, "N-Not at all! G-Go ahead..."
"Right," responded Blake, "Where should I even start?"
"Got any exotic toys? With the way you two were going at it the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a special swingset set up in your room."
Laudrie looked away, already seeming to fail at keeping calm.
Blake chuckled, "We don't have a 'swing' but I make sure to keep a pair of handcuffs nearby. And sure, we have some toys we like to use to keep things interesting. I recommend slowly introducing new toys into the bedroom, it helps in the long term."
Gilly locked eyes with Blake, she held nothing back, "So, dildos? Vibrators? That sort of thing?"
"Oh, more than that." Blake stared back at Gilly, "We're talking about strap-ons, beads, and plugs."
"Beads and Plugs? Oh, you so you girls like to mess around back there, huh?"
"Back there? Don't be coy, Gilly. Just come out and say Anal." Blake smiled, "And yeah, we do."
Gilly felt a bead of sweat begin to form on her forehead, realizing that Blake wasn't about to back down, "Oh, so you do anal then?"
In her mind Blake laughed manically, knowing she had Gilly on the ropes, "All the time, Gilly. What about you? You seem like a fun gal. Do you like Anal?"
Gilly felt the bead of sweat drip down the side of her head, "Y-Yes. I've dabbled..."
Blake raised a brow, "Dabbled? Oh, now I'm curious, Gill-Gill. How experienced are you?"
Gilly screamed on the inside, wondering how this got flipped back on her, "W-Well-"
"There's no need to be nervous! We're all adults here. You can tell us." Blake interrupted.
"I-I... I've been d-doing it for a while..." Gilly tried to force the answer out of her, but she suddenly felt cornered.
"A while? How long of a while? And what does that while include? Fingers? Dildos? Perhaps, someone?"
Gilly froze as her face burned red, her mouth opened to speak but all that escaped her open jaw were stutters of a sentence.
"O-Okay! C-Can I use your restroom!" Luna shot up.
The rest of the women all stared at Luna, who'd been silent for a long time. Her face was redder than the rest of them and she looked more embarrassed than Gilly as she stood with a nervous smile.
Blake giggled, "Sorry. And yes, go right ahead, it's down the hall to the right."
"Th-thanks." Luna ran off to the restroom while the other ladies stayed sitting by the table.
The three women sat in silence for the most part until Blake crossed her legs and leaned back in her chair, she spoke with a big smile as she looked back at Gilly, "I win."
A few minutes later Luna came back to the table and a "normal" conversation resumed until it got late into the night.
Crickets chimed loudly as the front door to Blake and Luadries door opened, Luna and Gilly hugged the couple and said their goodbyes.
Laudrie hugged Luna tightly, "Don't forget to keep up with your training! And make sure to come to visit us every once in a while! We have your phone number so we'll make sure to keep in touch as well!"
Luna smiled as she hugged back, "Thank you so much for everything, Miss Laudrie. And I'd love to come back with my mom and meet you both as well."
Blake and Gilly punched each other's shoulders.
"Take care, brat." Smirked Blake.
