His rough-edged sword shone from the rays of the light which peeked through the small holes from the leaves and branches above. The silver weapon held up high along with a disturbing smile petrified the boy. He held his sword up high before forcing it down with a mighty thrust, the blue eyes of the boy underneath was wide with fear as he watched the metallic object quickly come down with force!
A quick shadow appeared in front of Danny before a loud clanging of metal rang through the ears of Danny Fenton and the brutal Captain whose blade was deflected by a long, black sword. "You can't ever keep yourself contained, can you, Kenpachi?" An irritated voice called out from in front of the American boy who was supposed to have been struck down by Captain Zaraki's intimidating blade. Kenpachi grunted, but then grinned as his eyes didn't lie; Ichigo, his favourite 'toy' was there. By the looks of it, he wanted to fight. Kenpachi pulled back his weapon, sliding backwards from the force of the two zanpakutos colliding with one another.
"So you're going to stop my boredom, Ichigo!" Kenpachi laughed maniacally. "Well then," he said as he raised his rough-edged sword and pointed it right at the orange-haired boy. "Come and fight me!"
"Ah... no," Ichigo panicked as he quickly picked up Danny and flash-stepped as far away as he could, the Captain he left behind was stood in confusion but grumbled. The aforementioned barbaric Captain ran after them, Yachiru rapidly jumping on his back as she laughed psychotically along with the Captain. Trees surrounding them were demolished. The trees were ripped apart due to the brute strength of Kenpachi.
Once Ichigo had figured that they had lost the two crazy Soul Reapers, he set down the halfa. The boy was shocked from the immense speed that his new friend had ran at. Slowly, the Fenton boy scrambled up. Daniel looked around, searching on the spot to check if anyone were around to capture him – or sneaking around in the bushes like the small pink-haired girl from earlier. "You're not here to catch me, are you?" He questioned the substitute, his glowing green eyes scanned the taller boy.
Ichigo shook his head. "No, I'm not," he confirmed. "I'm actually here to get you out of here. You're not dead... nor are you evil. But the problem is that we have to go back to the Seireitei–"
"No!"
"What?"
"I'm not going back there! I'm not going anywhere near them psychotic people again!"
"But we can't get home," Ichigo said as he sheathed his sword. The boy had forgotten to put it away from when he had to save the ghost-boy in trouble.
"So we're stuck here!"
"No, all we need to do is go back there and then we can go through the Senkaimon!"
The other sighed. He wasn't going to get back home alive... or so he though. He scanned the area of green and brown around him. The boys were still in a forest, though it seemed different from before. This time the trees were much shorter, and there was a town that could be seen in the distance. The ground around them were covered in footprints, so it's obvious that the area was used by average people who lived in the Soul Society. Observing more of the scenery while the other boy looked at him in perplexity, he finally snapped out of his trance-like state and paid attention to the substitute. "Okay then, I'll go..."
Ichigo grinned. "It's going to take a while to get back there, a few days at the most, when we're back you can go home and enjoy the rest of your days here."
Something (mentally) inside of Danny snapped. He remembered. He has been gone a few days already hasn't he? His family will be worried sick about him. They really will send him to the Soul Society due to him making them worry so much. He glared up, "what about my family?! They're going to be worried!"
"Oh yeah... I forgot, your sister only knows your secret, doesn't she?"
"That's right, so my parents will be calling the police!"
"This will take some explaining..." Ichigo commented as he sighed in annoyance. "Maybe I can get Rukia to use one of those memory things..."
"'Memory things?'"
"Yeah, I forgot what they're called but they can replace memory."
"You can't use that on my family!"
"Then good luck dealing with them."
The silence was deafening as both stared into each other's eyes. Danny was having a dilemma. Let someone wipe their memories, or get into huge trouble. Wait, why is this even a hard choice? He knew that if they wiped their memories, everything would be fine! He smiled after coming to a decision, leaving the other teenager confused at the sudden grin. "Okay then, go ahead. Do it."
"Okay..." Ichigo said in bewilderment. This kid was strange. Ichigo looked off into the distance where the Senkaimon was. He could only just see one of the looming towers peeping up, far into the distance. His amber eyes looked as if they were calculating the distance, but in reality, he was trying to devise a plan. Even though that would be too annoying for his head to comprehend as he usually just charges in... and wins. "We should go," he mentioned as he turned back towards Daniel who just nodded his head in response.
The halfa jumped into the air, levitating as he flew rapidly. Ichigo was easily catching up with him at speed. "You're way too fast for your own good."
"I guess I'm used to charging into places."
"Whatever," Danny ended as he tried to speed up.
After a few hours of travelling, the duo had turned out to be quite exhausted. Slowing down, Danny fell to the floor, panting for breath. "I don't think I've... ever been so exhausted," he murmured as he struggled up. "Never again will I go that fast for so long..."
"Come on, it's only a bit further," Ichigo tried to reassure. "But if you want to rest, there's a small town just up ahead, I wouldn't do anything suspicious like turning into your human form or they will end up calling for help."
"Okay." With that, the two set off towards the tiny town that they had set their destination for. The American looked down at the fresh grass underneath him. His feet were literally dragging themselves; forcing themselves to move forwards. "As soon as I get home, I hope I never see another Soul Reaper again," Danny whispered to himself, oblivious that Ichigo could hear him.
"Hey, we're not that bad," Ichigo countered, the fact that he heard his friend send a shock down Danny's spine, making him feel guilty.
Danny rubbed the back of his head and plastered a small, fake grin on his face."Sorry about that, it's just that this is all too strange – even for me."
"I know that feeling. Anyway, we're here."
The Fenton boy moved his head up with a struggle and what seemed to be a rebellion from his nerves. Managing to look up, he observed his surroundings. There was a town. Finally! Somewhere to rest for a while. Souls of children ran around the area, laughing and playing happily. The sight made the two teenagers smile. However, what wasn't so amazing was that they couldn't find anywhere to stay and rest. "I don't think we can stay here," Danny commented. "There's nowhere to stay."
"I realised."
"What are we going to do then?"
"We'll find somewhere – I just know it. Maybe a random family will let us sleep for the night, it is getting dark," Ichigo said as both boys observed the sky. The sun was slowly decreasing in height. Colours of pink and orange were flooding the sky, drowning out the blue and changing it to navy blue. The smiling sun hung wearily in the sky, waiting for the moon to take over shifts.
"Oh yeah – that's right. Someone's just bound to let two strangers walk into their house when they could be potentially dangerous!"
"But I'm a substitute Soul Reaper, they know that I'm not dangerous towards them. We're supposed to protect all souls whether they're alive or not."
Danny sighed. They weren't getting anywhere. So they continued to walk around for a while, knocking on doors and asking for a place to stay. Unfortunately, no matter where they went, the doors were either slammed on their faces, yelled at, or the door wasn't answers. Looks like they were going to have to sleep on the cold, hard ground tonight. They'd be lucky if they weren't mugged or robbed. Finding a clear, small alleyway, they started to travel down it. But as they set foot onto the floor they heard a small squeak of what seemed to be someone calling out to them.
"Hello?" The small voice asked from behind them. A long shadow trailed down the alleyway, the boy's shadow passing the two teenagers as they stared down before snapping around to meet the boy. He was short, young and his eyes glimmered like diamonds. His hands were trembling slightly and it felt as if butterflies were fluttering in his stomach. He shakily spoke, "do you need somewhere t-to stay?"
