Gibbs stepped into the kitchen where Ziva had gone to brew more coffee. She was looking out his kitchen window and he could see the worry on her face. It hadn't been easy telling the team that he and Ziva had kept so much from them. They had understood the necessity but he'd seen the hurt all the same. He hugged her from behind and pressed a kiss to her temple. The team knew the facts of their foray into Haven and that they were indeed now a married couple. The more intimate details had been left out. Gibbs would share a lot with his team but not the how and why of his and Ziva's closeness.
"It will work out Ziva." He felt her sigh in his arms even as she settled against him.
"They are upset that we did not trust them enough to tell them." Ziva understood how they felt. The team hadn't voiced their disappointment had in fact shown only outward acceptance of the facts. But the wariness had been there and it stung.
It was Gibbs' turn to sigh. "Yeah and they have a right to be, but we did what we thought was right. They'll adjust."
"And how do we handle Haven?" Ziva had seen the look Tony had given her when he'd realized they intended to go forward with the case even given her condition. The same look had been mirrored on Jackie's face.
"As far as Haven knows we still have to keep our relationship secret, and for now at least only the counsel knows we're helping to find the killer." He could hear the team talking quietly in the living room. They still needed to discuss the third couple they'd found and get down to business so to speak.
Ziva nodded and started filling coffee cups. When she'd settled the cups on a tray she felt him turn her in his arms forcing her to look at him. "Ziva you were my partner first and even if we'd never become more I still wouldn't apologize for the we handled Haven. It was the best choice for what we knew. It wasn't about not trusting the team it was about getting the job done. You're my wife and I won't apologize for that either. However we got where we are is our business. The team will understand and they will help us because that is what teams do."
Ziva grinned at him. "I know you are right it is just hard to admit that you have lied to people you care about." She saw him take the tray of coffee's and raised an eyebrow. "I am capable of carrying that you know."
Gibbs just smiled as he walked back into the living room. He set the tray down and caught the nod Tony gave him. It was Tony's way of saying he wasn't angry. While he and Ziva had been in the kitchen the food had been cleared away and the files laid out. McGee was hooking up his equipment and everyone appeared ready to work.
"Let's start with Pamela White. She's likely to be our biggest lead, First things first why haven't we heard anything about her being missing?" Gibbs read over the file again.
"She was the one recently diagnosed with Cancer correct?" Jackie sipped her coffee and suddenly felt the weight of everyone looking at her. "What it's been on the talk shows and a few news outlets."
McGee nodded as he stared at his computer screen for a moment and clicked a button that allowed the same image to be shared on all the tablets in the room. "I did a search for anything regarding Mrs. White. I found the usual charity work, lunches, speeches etc. then about five weeks ago a very quiet release was put out that she was receiving treatment for breast cancer. She was supposedly admitted to a very private treatment center. Thing is I hacked the records and found only one instance of her ever being there."
Ducky looked at McGee "Why would they lie about her having cancer, why not just say she went to a retreat?"
Tony gave a bitter smile. "Senator White's approval ratings took a serious bump upon her diagnosis."
Gibbs sighed "So the Senator covers up his wife going missing which means he knew about the infidelity. Any clue how long?"
McGee shook his head. "I could hack his personal files but I wanted to check with you first."
"I think we should wait. We should talk to him first find out what he knows. It would be easy to arrange a meeting, for any number of reasons. He might just tell us what we want to know especially if we tell him what we suspect. At this point the benefits outweigh the risks."
Tony rolled his shoulders. "My father is friends with the senator. I can get him to arrange a meeting."
Gibbs nodded and glanced at the tablet in his hands. "See what you can do in the morning."
Abby looked through the files, and shrugged. "I just don't get why this killer feels the need to kill both people. I get that killers don't make sense but..."
"If you look at it practically if the killer is indeed connected to Haven and his reason for killing is to protect Haven by killing both you lower the risk of discovery of the connection to Haven. At least if you look at it from a pathological view." Ziva tucked her feet underneath her on the couch and let her hand rest against her belly.
"I think it's about remorse." Ducky pointed to the wrappings in the pictures. "It's obvious he has a fixation with ancient Egypt, so if we look at that we can also assume that he believes that these couples will rise again. All their organs etc. were properly preserved. I believe he feels that by killing them together he is ensuring they will not be reborn alone."
"If it is about protecting Haven then we have to assume he's not done. These three couples can't be the only ones doing things to jeopardize Haven. If it's as big as you say it is he only looking at the Haven's in Washington DC or further." McGee watched as his question settled over everyone in the room.
Vance took a sip of coffee and frowned. "It would be safe to assume that he isn't done. Do you two think the council at Haven will keep you informed of any new disappearances?"
Gibbs shrugged. "Can't say exactly how they'll handle it. I'd like to think they would but who knows. For now I think our best bet is to keep the Haven connection under wraps from the general public and even anyone that doesn't absolutely have to know. We need to meet with the Senator and find out exactly when his wife went missing. If we can find that date we can narrow down about when we'll find her body."
"He has been consistent so far about dropping the bodies off within twenty four hours of the process being completed." Ducky began writing time lines on the white board.
Abby nodded. "And so far we've found that he doesn't take the next couple. Until about midway through the mummification process of the first couple he's taken."
"Following that knowledge we can go from when Mrs. White was taken and get an idea of when the next couple was or will be taken." McGee made some notes and frowned to himself.
"So we know that anyone this guy deems as a threat to Haven is targeted. What exactly have you two done to draw his attention?"
Beside her Ziva felt Gibbs tense at Abby's question. She would have expected the question from Tony and from the way Gibbs tightened his fingers around hers he knew he too was caught off guard by the tone in Abby's voice.
Abby could see the discomfort in Gibbs demeanor and she knew she sounded harsh. But, it had just hit her the very real risk Gibbs and Ziva were taking.
"In the beginning we caused a stir simply because of who we are and what are job is. There were many that were not happy that we were allowed in. As of right now most seem to have accepted us. We have not done anything in particular to draw attention. We have a few people we are watching closely and a few we have annoyed because we are not…." She blushed surprised that it was hard to share this.
Gibbs cleared his throat. "They have a different lifestyle than we do and then there is at least one who thinks he's entitled to Ziva simply because I'm too old for her." He felt the hard punch in his arm and laughed. "His words not mine Zi."
Gibbs met Abby's gaze and understood the concern there. It was a fear he often felt himself. "We understand the risks Abby, have since the beginning even before there was an us." It was the slightest fib since there'd been a them since the beginning. "But know this, there is nothing I wouldn't do to keep Ziva safe." He didn't catch the fierceness of his words, or the way the the rest of the team had to look away for a moment.
Ziva elbowed him "We will protect each other Jethro that is how this works. Now I am hungry again will you get me ice cream?" She saw his slow smile followed by a soft chuckle.
"I stocked up on rocky road." He couldn't help himself he saw her smile and was forced to press a quick kiss to her forehead. "Be right back." Gibbs headed to the basement ignoring yet another snicker from Tony.
Ziva waited until Gibbs was well out of sight and hearing range and stood up. With a look she had everyone's attention "I understand you mean well and I am even thankful for it. However all of this has been difficult for Jethro. He has struggled with what is doing our job and what is protecting me. If you have a problem with us, how we do this job or any risks we take. You come to me but leave him be. I make my choices myself, take risks of my own will and at any point should I change my mind about how I want to handle this you can be certain that man would do anything I asked. And even that causes him guilt. He spends every day waiting for something to go wrong. You are his team but more than that whether he admits it or not you are his family. If you cannot support him than at least say nothing at all." That said Ziva gathered coffee cups and walked into the kitchen.
Jackie walked into the kitchen to find Ziva staring into the sink. Ziva turned to her looking frustrated. "I sounded like a bitch and that was not my intention."
Jackie smiled. "Not at all you sounded like a woman in love. Even Abby understood that. Kind of nice to see a woman standing up for Gibbs instead of well…."
Ziva chuckled "I have heard the stories. It is odd but Jethro and I do not fight. We disagree and we have differences of opinion. But we do not fight…I think perhaps we have both lost to much to go down that road."
Gibbs walked in to find Jackie and Ziva smiling at each other. "Now I know I'm in trouble." He set the ice cream on the counter and began pulling bowls from the cupboard. "Looks like the gang is packing up. You up for working tomorrow or do you want to take the day off?"
Before Ziva could answer Vance walked in the room. "No work tomorrow buildings closed Monday for fumigation so you might as well take the day. You're on your honeymoon. the same work will be there Tuesday. That's an order."
Gibbs nodded "Thanks."
Vance surprised Ziva by pulling her into a quick hug. "Congratulations again."
"Thank you." Ziva smiled and turned to Jackie "Perhaps we could have lunch one day soon."
Jackie hid her surprise and nodded "I'd like that."
Ziva watched the rest of the team crowd into the kitchen, Her and Gibbs' family stood in front of them. The people that mattered.
Tony took a stack of paper plates and pushed them into the trash. "We're all going to head out let you two get some rest." He didn't hide the smirk that accompanied his last word. A gentle teasing that everyone chuckled at. "We'll see you all Monday."
After a few more words and goodbye's the house was finally empty. Ziva stepped outside with the rest of the group and pretended to get in her car just to keep anyone watching from suspecting they weren't still hiding their relationship. But after only a minute of sitting in her car she was back in the warmth of the house. Gibbs was adding wood to the fire as she shut the door.
"Missed you." Gibbs grinned when she raised an eyebrow at him.
"I was not even gone five minutes Jethro." She settled on the floor in front of the fireplace next to him.
"So, that means I can't miss you?"
"No…"
"I miss you any time you aren't with me Zi." Gibbs wrapped an arm around her savoring the way she leaned into him. She smelled like fall and tea and Ziva.
Ziva felt warmth pour through her, not just from being held in his arms but from the words he so easily shared with her. "I feel the same. I will be glad when we do not have to live in two separate places any more."
Gibbs nodded against the top of her head. "How are you feeling tonight?" he rested his hand gently on the small swell of her stomach feeling as always the amazement that he would be a father again.
"I feel good. I seem to have more energy today." She let her words trail off even as she reached up to take her hair down.
Gibbs turned to her catching the look in her eye. "Really?" the sultry grin on her face spoke volumes.
He watched as her hair spilled around her shoulders nearly touching the rug underneath them . She was so damn beautiful it almost hurt to look at her. "Wonder what we should do with all that extra energy?"
Ziva smiled and shrugged. "We could wash the dishes.." slowly she slipped out of her shoes and socks.
Gibbs wondered how she could make even taking off shoes look sexy. "There is that, we also need to do some dusting."
Ziva bit back a laugh. Gibbs wasn't big on dusting at all. "I am certain there is laundry to be done." She watched him slip out of his shirt, tossing it on the floor.
Gibbs pulled her up off the floor and led her to the couch. "I should take you upstairs but I don't want to wait that long."
Ziva slipped out of her jeans and shirt, they joined his shirt on the floor. For a moment she felt awkward standing there in nothing but satin, lace and a body far changed from the first time they'd done this. But then she focused on the way he was looking at her.
"I'm a damn lucky man Ziva." He let his hands slide across her skin removing the lace and satin till she was naked in front of him. "My favorite way to look at you." Quickly he removed the rest of his clothing, he leaned back into the couch pulling her down over him.
Ziva hissed at the nearly overwhelming sensation of his skin sliding across hers. Her hips slid across his wetness meeting hardness and she couldn't stop her fingers from biting into his biceps. "Neshama"
He felt his breath catch as their bodies met. Skin on skin, her hair falling around them like a curtain of darkness, lit by the fire her skin glowed as she slid over him snaring him in silk. He threw his head back even as her mouth nipped at his throat. He didn't bother to hide the groan of pleasure as she moved her hips in a teeth grinding movement. "You're determined to kill me."
Ziva chuckled softly against his chest. "I just know what you like." Her words were rasped out between breaths as he met each of her movements with a sharp thrust of his hips. "Like right now I know you like this but what you really want is to bend me over this couch."
Gibbs had to stop, take in a long breath only then could he finally meet her eyes. Dark brown glazed with passion and a hint of anticipation. Snaring her wrists he pushed her hands off his arms lifting her up. "I don't want to make you uncomfortable, because of the baby."
Ziva smiled her breath still coming in short pants. "I suggested it didn't I. I know my limits Jethro I will tell you if something is too much." Taking his hand she rose and let him lead her behind the couch. She felt him behind her and shivered in anticipation. His hand wrapped tightly in her hair the other tracing the lines of her back until it wrapped around her hip pulling her bottom against him.
Gibbs did just as she had said, ever so gently he leaned her against the couch. As he lowered her he captured one breast in his hands, a soft flick of his thumb as he slid inside her and she was calling out his name. A sweat broke out from the effort not to come in that very second. She drove him to the edge in an instant every time they made love.
Ziva felt him lock deep inside her, the tender brush of his thumb across her nipple and her body was crying for completion. His mastery of her body shouldn't have surprised her but it did every time. His mouth slid across her shoulder till it connected with her neck the slightest nip of his teeth, one more powerful stroke and she was flying apart all around him.
As much as she knew what he liked Gibbs to knew just what Ziva wanted and his mouth connected with her skin he felt her shudder in his arms, muscles fluttering around him as she came apart. The hot warmth of her pouring over him as her body pulsed around him stole his own release from him. He growled out his satisfaction as blinding pleasure whipped through him. For long moments all her knew was the scent and feel of her surrounding him. When he could move again he stumbled them to the couch pulling a throw off the arm and managing to cover them.
Ziva tucked into him, trying to steady her breath. "That was amazing."
"You can say that again." He watched her look at him in confusion. "It's an expression."
"Well I would say it again." She sighed in pleasure "I am guessing there will come a time when we will not be able to do this any more."
Gibbs laughed. "Unless a doctor says otherwise we'll just have to get more creative."
"That was pretty creative." She heard him laugh again. "I like to hear you laugh, for a long time you did not do enough of it."
Gibbs held her tighter. "For a long time I didn't have much to laugh about." He looked at her. "But then there was you. You make me happy ZIva, more than that you make me feel like me again."
Ziva felt the sting of tears in her eyes and had to swallow hard to hold them back. "You make me more than happy Jethro you make me feel complete. What was missing in my life was you. I am better than the woman I was before I knew you." Ziva let her hand trace the planes of his chest. "I am glad the team knows. It will take them time to adjust even if they don't realize it but I think they are happy for us."
Gibbs nodded. "And on that note I was thinking we should tell my dad. In fact I was thinking maybe we should go for a visit tomorrow. We'd have to get up early but we wouldn't need to come back until late Monday."
"Are you sure you want him to know about us?" She felt the rumble of his laughter under her hand.
"Are you forgetting we're married. Not something I'm going to keep from him. And he likes you if I didn't tell him he'd kick my ass." He tilted her face to look at him. "This isn't temporary Ziva. I didn't marry you thinking if something goes wrong I'll just get another divorce. You're my one and only, my last wife. Forever and always…mine"
Ziva had no words for his statement no way to answer the very certain way he looked at her as he said them. Instead she simply wrapped her arms around him and loved him back.
