Chapter 2: Diagon Alley's Supplies and Stories

August 29th

3 Days before the Term began Silas and Newt were making their way in London to a location to their destination. During the time, Silas had been learning Magizoology from Newt, as well as learning simple spells as a means to prepare for him. When his magic had awoken from healing Frank's leg, Newt made it a private mission to help the boy prepare. The only ones witnessing here Briana, the blonde girl Locks, and a boy Silas's age with black hair and green eyes named Nigel, who had taken an interest in helping Newt and Silas take for the creatures. It seemed he was well-liked by the Bowtruckles and a Kelpie, a sea-horse-like creature composed of seaweed who took a liking to the boy, rather than biting at his fingers. But then came the day that Silas would supply there for Hogwarts.

It was then that they stopped at a pub called, the Leaky Cauldron. as Silas asked, "Leaky Cauldron?"

"No one would ever think to find the path to the alley here," Newt explained as they entered. Walking inside he saw lots of strangely dressed people in robes and all sorts of clothes.

"Hi there, can I help you," The bartender asked.

"Yes, we're looking for someone from Hogwarts," Newt replied. "He's here to help us sort out some stuff for this young man's first year."

"Oh you must be waiting for Hagrid. He comes here often," The Bartender said when the door opened to reveal the largest man Silas had ever seen.

He was big to say the least, almost a giant, he had a big scruffy beard, messy brown hair and an umbrella in his hands and dressed like a mountain man. But oddly, when he saw Newt, he smiled warmly like seeing a friend, "Newt Scamander. You big Beastie Softie."

"Rubeus Hagrid," Newt replied, as he brought Silas over, "Silas, I'd like you to meet..."

"Rubeus Hagrid," the big man introduced himself. "Keeper of Keys, and Groundskeeper at Hogwarts."

"Silas Snape," Silas replied while shaking Hagrid's hand, "Good to meet you as well."

"Snape? As in a relation of Severus Snape," Hagrid asked, arching an eyebrow.

"His godson, Hagrid," Newt replied. But then noticed someone next to Hagrid, "And I see you brought a student as well."

Silas noticed it as well, as he saw a boy his age, with black hair, green eyes, glasses, wearing khaki pants, brown shoes, a red shirt and black jacket. He seemed rather nice his age, as he smiled, "Hello. Are you..?"

"Going to Hogwarts? Yes," Silas said as he held his hand out, "Silas Snape."

The boy smiled as he accepted it as he shook his hand, "Harry Potter."

Though oddly enough, even to Silas, the room became silent. All eyes were turned to Harry as all mounts of silent chatter was made. Silas looked around confused, as did Harry, for neither new what this affect would do in time at Hogwarts.

The barkeep was in awe as he said, "Bless my soul. Harry Potter."

"Welcome back, Mr. Potter," a random customer said taking Harry's hand with a warm smile, "Welcome back."

"Doris Crockford, Mr. Potter," another customer said as she enthusiastically shook Harry's hand, "I can't believe I'm meeting you at last."

Silas watched as everyone seemed to celebrate Harry as though he was some sort of celebrity. But he also noticed that Harry seemed just as confused about it as he was by the public's reaction.

However, one gentleman, wearing a black suit, cloak, and a purple turpin, who seemed too jittery for his own good, gulped as he looked to Harry and stuttered, "H-H-Harry, P-P-Potter.. Pleasure to meet you, l-l-lad."

"Ah Professor Quirrell," Hagrid said, as he introduced him to the boys, "Silas, Harry, this is Professor Quirrell. He's in charge of teaching you lads Defense Against the Dark Arts."

Silas asked, "You mean like combat against magic?"

Newt nodded, "Yeah, something like that."

Harry reached out to shake his hand, "Nice to meet you."

Professor Quirrell, however, moved his hands away but continued to smile, "Very fascinating subject. N-N-Not that you need that you need it H-H-Harry Potter."

Hagrid then patted Silas's shoulder as he smirked, "And this here's Silas Snape. Apparently, Severeus had a relative we didn't know about."

"Well, actually Silas is his godson," Newt corrected, but then gently pushed Silas to the back, "Anyway, we should be getting ready."

With that, the four of them headed for the back door of the pub.

In the back, the four were led to a small courtyard with where a brick wall was located as Hagrid walked up to it. But Silas was a bit confused on one thing with Harry as the boy had drawn so much attention, "What exactly are you so famous for? Whatever it was, everyone was in awe to see and meet you."

"Oh he's more than famous, he's a legend." Hagrid said.

"But why am I famous,: Harry asked.

"Well, it's a bit of a long story, Mr. Potter" Newt replied.

"And I'm not sure either one of us are the right persons to tell you that," Hagrid said as he tapped a few bricks with his umbrella. The action caused the wall to open with the bricks shift forming an archway to form and they saw an alley full of shops and people. Hagrid smiled, "Welcome to Diagon Alley."

As they walked through, they noticed this place was a cornucopia of magic. Stores were full of magical items like brooms and cloaks. Others dressed like they belonged in a magical community. Even some of the foods were something out of a magic store. Harry spotted a broom on display, as everyone commented on it being the fastest flying broom ever, called the Nimbus 2000. Silas was also in amazement, but then something hit him as he pulled at his backpack, "Ooooh dear."

Harry looked to him and asked, "What?"

"I just realized, I don't have any money," Silas answered as he looked to him in worry, "I'm at an orphanage, and we make bread and do laundry services to keep the place afloat."

Harry realized that too, "Yeah, ... I don't have any money either. Orphan myself."

"Well there's your money boys," Hagrid said while pointing towards the building they were heading towards. It was three story building made of white stone. The entrance had white pillars holding each level up. Above the entrance was the name 'Gringotts Bank' engraved in gold. What was made the building stand out was out lobsided it looked. It looked as though the building had once melted in the heat but stayed that way. "Gringotts, the Wizards Bank," Hagrid continued, "Take over safe place in the world, not one. Except perhaps Hogwarts."

Though as they approached it, Silas's bag began to warble a bit.

Inside

Walking in, the four of them walked inside an immaculate bank, almost as shiny and bright as gold. Though as they passed to the main desk, Silas and Harry spotted small multiple creatures working the counters. They appeared humanoid, but had dark eyes, pointed ears and noses, with sharp fingers, and almost seemed rather unpleasant to be around.

"Uh Hagrid, what exactly are these things," Harry asked.

"Goblins," Hagrid answered, as Silas looked at how busy they were and looked rather hardened on it. "Clever beasts as they come, Goblins, but not very friendly. So best you boys stay close." Hagrid said as they all walked to the counter.

Newt was the one to clear his throat to get the Head Goblin's attention as he said, "Mr. Harry Potter and Mr. Silas Snape would like to make a withdrawal from their vaults."

The Head goblin leaned on, sneering, as if the boys were deemed to make a mistake, as he asked, "And do Mr. Potter and Mr. Snape each have their keys?"

Newt thought on it, and then nodded, "Oh yes." Pickett popped up from his chest pocket and gave it to Newt, as he smiled, "Had it for safe keeping."

"Yep, got'em right here," Hagrid said pulling out Harry's golden keys and both handing them to the goblin.

The Goblin then inspected them as he nodded, "These seem to be in order."

"Oh! Also Prof. Dumbledore gave me this." Hagrid said handing the goblin a letter. "It's about you-know-what in vault 713."

Newt looked to Hagrid who nodded his questions and he nodded back. Both boys seemed to take interest in that, as the Head Goblin nodded, "Very well." He then looked to the side and called out, "Griphook!"

Another goblin walked up to the four of them of them and led them into a small cart on railway tracks. "Follow Me then," he said.

Later On

Vaults

Vaults were located in mineshafts beneath the building and were traveled through via mine craft system. The two wizard pre-teens, the Magizooologist, and the giant were all in a small vehicle on the mine tracks with Griphook steering. The craft came to a stop outside of one particular vault. It was large bronze colored metal door that was a little taller than Hagrid. Above the door were the numbers 687 engraved on the stone.

"Vault 687," Griphook said as he got out of his seat, "Lamp, please."

With that, Netwon passed him the lantern that was near him. Griphook headed for the door while the others got out of their seats and followed after the goblin. Once the others joined Griphook outside of the door, he handed the lantern to Hagrid.

"Key, please," Griphook requested as Hagrid passed him Harry's key.

The goblin lifted a latch on the door and inserted the key into the keyhole. He turned the key as the sound of moving gears filled the corridor. The goblin closed the latch and backed away as the sounds continued. As soon as the sound ceased, the vault door opened revealing the contents to the five of them.

Once they saw, there was a large pile of gold that almost reached the ceiling as they noticed it, as Hagrid looked to the awestruck Harry, "Didn't think your parents left you nothin' did ya?"

Griphook then walked over to the next vault, as he said, "Vault 689."

Newt and Silas walked over to it as Silas guessed this was his vault. And still didn't notice the rummaging in his backpack. But Harry did before he went to get what he needed. "Key, please," Griphook requested, as Newt gave him the key.

The goblin lifted a latch on the door and inserted the key into the keyhole. He turned the key as the sound of moving gears filled the corridor. The goblin closed the latch and backed away as the sounds continued. As soon as the sound ceased, the vault door opened revealing the contents of the vault to Silas, and boy was he surprised.

There, inside, was just as much gold coins as it was in Harry's as Silas asked Newt, "Are all witches and wizards this rich?"

"You'd be surprised," Newt replied. Finally, it couldn't be contained, as the backpack opened to Silas's surprise, as something ran at the gold and dived it. Harry and Hagrid walked over as Harry got his gold needed, as they all saw something swim in the gold. And then popped out as the brown Nefflir, Toby, was sticking gold down his pouch, dancing about. But then stopped as he looked to see the five watch him. But as he did, slowly he pushed more gold in his pouch.

"Toby," Newt said with a stern expression, "You were supposed to stay in the suitcase. Now get that out, those aren't your shiny things."

Toby sighed as he walked back over, as Silas picked him up, as he asked, "How much did you put in your pouch before you resurfaced?" Toby thought on it, and stretched out his arms showing waaaaaay lot. Silas nodded, as he looked to Griphook, "I think we got what we needed."

"Very good, sir," and walked back to the cart, as Harry looked in awe.

"What is that," Harry asked, pointing at Toby.

"Toby's a Niffler," Silas explained. "They love shiny stuff, coins and precious metals included. They use what they can to make a nest with it."

And all walked to the cart, as they made their next destination.

Vault 713

"Hey Hagrid, what's in here?" Harry asked, as they arrived.

"Can't tell you Harry. Top Secret Hogwarts business," Hagrid said.

Griphook traced his claw down at the door, unlocking it from the inside. Once the door was unlocked, it opened up to reveal its only possession: a small package wrapped up in brown paper, no bigger than a baseball. Silas arched an eyebrow as he said, "That must be something."

Later On

Much Shopping Later

The four had done the shopping necessary for the boys to get, as they had bags of books and items. Silas looked at his list with Toby resting in one of the bags, as Harry looked at the item as they both realized the last thing they needed.

"So Silas," Harry began to ask, "How come you were told to meet Hagrid and me here with Mr. Scamander? Where's your family?"

"I don't have one. I'm an orphan," Silas frowned. "But everyone at the orphanage is like a family to me."

Harry sighed as he explained, "I know how you feel, my parents are dead and I'm forced to live with my Aunt and Uncle who hate me."

"All I know is that there's a man at Hogwarts who has my last name, he's the only one who knows anything about me," Silas sighed. "And this will be the first I meet him."

"You nervous," Harry asked.

"A bit, I mean look at us we're two kids who have had to learn to fend for ourselves because we didn't have any parents to show us how. Aren't you scared," Silas asked.

"I am, but at least I know I've got a friend who is in the same boat as me." Harry smiled patting Silas on the back.

"Thanks Harry," Silas smiled as they entered the bookstore.

Giving their lists to the shopkeeper he pointed them to the book sections. As Silas made his way to grab a copy of Magical Drafts and Potions, another hand grabbed it at the same time as him. Looking up, Silas saw a girl his age with Caucasian pale skin, blue eyes, and long blonde hair with two thick braids over her shoulders. "Oh sorry," she said reaching for another copy of it.

"Are you going to Hogwarts too?" Silas asked, noticing she was getting the same book.

"Yes. I am, I'm Penny Haywood, nice to meet you," She said holding out her hand.

"Silas Snape," he said shaking it.

"I'm excited for this class the most," Penny smiled as she couldn't contain her excitement. "Potions may not be the most glamourous wizarding subject, but I personally can't wait to start."

"Me neither," Silas said. "Though I'm hoping for something in Magizoology. Though from what my mentor said, it starts in the 3rd year."

"Well maybe we'll be in the same House. Which one do you think you'll be in," Penny asked.

"Um, I'm not sure," Silas said, having no idea what she was talking about.

"Well no one really knows where you'll end up until you get there." Penny said walking to the counter. "I'll see you at Hogwarts."

"Yeah, see you there." Silas said, waving goodbye.

Gathering up their supplies, Silas and Harry looked at their lists to see what was left. "Now I just need a wand," Harry said.

"Me too. Well unless you count pets," Silas said.

"Well I wouldn't go with toads. They went out of fashion years ago, and I don't like cats much. I recommend an owl. Use them to carry your mail." Newt suggested.

A half hour later, the two boys walked out with cages holding two owls. Harry had a beautiful snowy white owl while Silas had a small but brown and black spotted owl. Though it seemed to get along with Toby as the two were sitting side-to-side with Toby at the outside of the cage, speaking to the owl.

"I hope Mrs. Moffeton and the others don't mind you flying in and out," Silas said looking at his owl. Arriving at the last shop Ollivanders, Silas and Harry were very excited for this. "You two go on ahead I'll hold your owls for you." Hagrid offered.

Newt nodded, "We'll wait here too."

Ollivander Wands

Once inside the store, the two boys walked in to see thousands of narrow boxes stacked on the shelves going all the way up to the ceiling.

"Whoa," both boys said surprised.

Though at the moment, someone rolled in on a latter, as he spotted the two boys, startling them. It was Mr. Ollivander. Mr. Ollivander smiled slowly as he noticed the two, as he said, "I wondered when I would see you two come in." He then came to the front desk as he smiled, "It seems like only yesterday your parents came in buying their first wands." He then stopped as he smiled and asked, "Now before I start, I should know. Which is your wand hand?"

"Uh well I'm right-handed." Harry said.

"Me too," Silas said.

"Hmm very well, let's see what I can find for you two." Walking to the back Mr. Ollivander comes back with two boxes in his hands. "Here you go 7 inches ebony and dragon heartstring for Harry and 8 inches maple and unicorn hair for Silas." Once both had a wand in each hand, he nodded, "Go on. Give them a wave."

Looking at each other the two boys shrug as they waved the wands and instantly multiple boxes flew off the shelves. "Okay perhaps those aren't the wands for you two," Mr. Ollivander said taking them back. This time he decided to do one at a time.

"Try this Silas. 9 inches Hornbeam and Dragon heartstring." He said handing him another wand. Silas waved it and it blasted the counter bell on his desk to smithereens. "No, no definitely not."

"I'm really sorry," Silas apologized.

"It's quite alright," he assured the young man. "Finding the right want that works for you is a tricky business. Not always clean," He then handed Harry another wand to try. "Here, Harry. Beechwood and unicorn hair 10 inches."

Harry waved the wand and the vase holding flowers was destroyed.

"My, my you two are tricky customers," Mr. Ollivander said making his way to the back. But then he paused as he noticed two sticking out. Knowing what they were, he mumbled to himself in thought, "I wonder..."

A few minutes later, he came back with two cases. "Here you go, Silas. 11 ½ inches Mahogany and Thunderbird feather."

Hesitant about this one, Silas reached out and grabbed it. And when he waved it, golden and storm grey sparks with winds around swirled about him in a pillar until it calmed down at the end. Harry and Silas were amazed by that, as Ollivander nodded, "Very interesting."

"I'm sorry but... what's interesting," Silas asked.

"You see Silas," Mr. Ollivander explained as he gently presented Harry's wand. "Each wand combination has certain features that adapt to a person's personality." And then pointed to Silas's wand, "And what this wand is telling me about you, Mr. Snape, is that you are someone destined greatness. Otherwise, I would be shocked as to why the Thunderbird, whose feather is within that wand, would give it so willingly."

He then handed Harry his wand. "11 inches Holly and Phoenix Feather." Harry grabbed it and instantly he got the same reaction Silas did with his wand, as a golden light and wind blanketed Harry and then fell calmly silent. "Curious." Mr. Ollivander said. "Very curious."

"I'm sorry, but what's curious," Harry asked.

"I remember every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter," Ollivander explained as he pointed to it. "And it just so happens that the phoenix, whose tail feather is in your wand gave another feather—just one other feather. It is very curious that you should be destined for this wand..." and pointed at the scar hidden in his bangs. "... when its brother gave you that scar." Silas then noticed the thunderbolt scar on Harry's forehead, as Ollivander said, "I think we might expect great things from both of you."

Ollivander then said, "After all... He Who Must Not Be Named, did Great Things," Ollivander said. "TERRIBLE. But Great."

The two boys were left quiet by each of Mr. Ollivander's comments about their wands. At first, the boys thought they were just going to be given a different kind of school compared to the muggle kids they grew up with. But now, this man was telling them that their wands were saying they were destined for greater things than that.

'So much for a quiet school year,' Silas thought to himself as he looked at his wand.

Later On

Leaky Cauldron

The four had settled on a table eating, as Toby was enjoying a bowl for Niffler food. But the room was rather quiet, as Silas looked to Harry, who seemed a bit quiet on this. Newt also took notice of this, as Silas asked, "So... maybe we could address the elephant in the room?"

Hagrid seemed confused on that, as he asked, "What Elephant?"

"He killed my parents didn't he," Harry asked, showing his scar, "The one who gave me this?"

"Whoa." Silas said, seeing it for the first time very clearly.

"I think you know, Hagrid," Harry asked, pushing further. Hagrid sighed as he knew this would come soon, and Newt nodded at it, knowing full well the boys would need to know this danger.

Hagrid sighed, as he said, "Well, first of which, lads. I think it's best that you both understand this so listen up. Not all wizards are good. Some of them go bad." The boys took this to heart as he went on, "Years ago, there was one wizard who went as bad as you can go. And his name was V..." Hagrid stuttered. "His name was V..."

Silas asked, "You okay?"

"It's not a tick," Newt explained. "No one dares say his name less fear of him appearing would happen. That's how bad he is."

Harry then suggested, "Well, maybe you can spell it."

"Nah, I can't spell it," Hagrid confessed, but sighed, "But, alright..." He then whispered the name, "Voldemort."

"Voldemort," Harry and Silas said at the same time only for Hagrid to tell shush them before anyone else could hear them.

Newt then explained, "Back then, even after the first Wizard War, it became dark times. Voldemort started to gather forces, both wizard or otherwise. Brought them over to the dark side, and called them his Death Eaters. Anyone who stood up against him ended up dead. Many children wound up orphans because of him." Newt said, looking at Silas who had a scared look on his face before turning to Harry. "Your parents fought against him. But nobody lived once he decided to kill them, nobody." And then sighed as he looked at him, "Except you, Harry."

Harry was shocked at that. The fact that this Voldemort had tried to kill him as a baby. "Me? Voldemort tried to kill... me," Harry asked shocked at this piece of news.

"Sounds like this guy is afraid of you for some reason," Silas said after hearing that.

"Yes," Hagrid answered, "And that ain't no ordinary cut on your forehead, Harry. A mark like that only comes when being touched by a curse, and an evil curse at that."

"What happened to... to You Know Who," Harry asked.

Hagrid then nodded, "Well.. some say he did." He huffed at that as he gave his opinion, "Cods' Swallup, in my opinion. No... I think he's hiding. Too tired to carry out his work." But then looked to Harry as he said, "But there one thing I do know. Something about you did stop him that night. That's why you're famous Harry, and why everyone knows you."

He looked to the two as he answered, "You're the Boy who Lived."

The two looked at this in awe and silence, taking in the weight of this knowledge.

Much Time Later

September 1st

London

Much time passed as both boys were accompanied by Hagrid and Newt, at the train station.

Hagrid pulled out his watch and his eyes widened. "Blimey, is that the time," Hagrid said in shock as he looked at the boys, "Sorry, boys, I'm going to have to leave you. Dumbledore will be wanting his..." Hagrid started to say before stopping himself as he patted the right side of his chest, "Well, he'll be wanting to see me. Now, uh, your train leaves in ten minutes. Here are your tickets," Hagrid continued as he pulled out a train ticket for each of them, "Now stick to it, the two of. That's very important. Stick to your ticket."

"Oh, before I go," Newt replied, as he handed Silas a suitcase. In fact, it was an exact replica of Newt's, as Silas blinked. "Mr. Scamander... Newt... is this," Silas asked.

"Just be sure to make sure nobody's around you can't trust before you open it," Newt winked, as he walked off, "Oh, and make sure to keep it closed."

Silas nodded, "I will, and thank you."

With that, the two boys looked at their train tickets. They looked like ordinary train tickets except for the platform name being 9 and 3/4. "Platform 9 and 3/4," Harry asked while Silas looked in confusion, "But Hagrid, this can't be right. There's no such platform as this. Is there?" Harry and Silas looked and saw both Hagrid and Newt had disappeared without a sound much to the boys' surprise.

"Oh great," Silas said as he looked around, "They pulled a Batman on us."

"Batman," Harry asked confused.

Silas shook his head as the two continued onward. They made their way to Platforms 9 and 10. But sadly, what they saw, there was no Platform 9 3/4. Silas looked around and asked, "You think it's a platform hidden."

"Diagon Alley was hidden, so most likely," Harry said as he looked around for anything only a wizard or witch would recognize. Unfortunately, he was just as much in the dark about that as well having been raised by muggles all his life, "Maybe we should ask someone here."

"Good idea, but let's listen instead," Silas suggested, "Asking someone around here might only get us scoffed at."

"Silas!" The two boys turned to see a familiar lady, well familiar to Silas. It was Briana as she rushed over to them, as she stopped to take a breath, and sighed, "Sorry, Silas. I managed to get here as fast as I could."

"Briana, what are you doing here," Silas asked, as she then handed him a letter. "It's the address of the orphanage," Briana said. "I wanna make sure that even though you're going to school, you'll still keep in touch." But then asked, "Do they send letters to where you're going?"

"I'm sure they do," Silas said, as he graciously took it, "If we can find Platform 9 3/4."

"9 3/4? You sure that's the right one," Briana asked.

"That's what the ticket says," Silas said showing her the ticket, "Oh, by the way, this is Harry Potter. We met while getting out supplies for the school year. Harry, this is Brianna Moffelton. She's the daughter of the owner of the Orphanage."

"Nice to meet you, ma'am," Harry shook her hand.

"Pleasure's all mine, young man," Briana returned it.

As they walked over a large family walked past them. "It's the same every year, packed with muggles, of course," the mother said, getting their attention.

"Muggles," all three said, as they looked at each other before following the family to the stone wall where Platforms 9 and 10 met.

"Alright, Percy. You first," The woman said as a tall boy ran as fast as he could towards the wall, but instead of crashing he went right through it surprising them. "Alright Fred, you are next." The two boys looked to see teen twin redheaded boys.

"He's not Fred, I am." His twin said.

"Honestly woman, you call yourself our mother."

"Oh sorry, George," she said.

"Only joking, I am Fred," He laughed, before going through the wall with George right behind him.

All three of them were stunned by what they saw. "Was it like this getting your school gear," Brianna asked the two of them.

"Little bit," Silas said with a nod.

"Uh excuse me?" Harry asked, as he, Briana, and Sam walked over.

"Could you show us," Silas asked gesturing to what just happened.

"How to get onto the platform," she asked. "Don't worry, Ron's new too." She then pointed to a boy of Harry and Silas's age and build with red hair and brown eyes. "All you have to do is walk straight through the wall of platforms 9 and 10. Best do it at a bit of run if you're nervous."

Silas nodded as he thanked her, "Thank you miss uh?"

"Weasly, Molly Weasley." She smiled, as she hugged her ten-year-old daughter, "And this is Ginny. She starts next year."

"Good luck," Ginny said shyly while smiling at the boys.

Harry ran in first, as Silas looked to Briana, as he said, "I'll write as much as I can."

"Thanks," Brianna said to him, "Stay safe, and don't do anything crazy!"

"Will do," Silas said while smirking at that last part.

He then made a head start, running to the pillar and ran to the wall. And when he went through it, he arrived at Platform 9 ¾, the station for the Hogwarts Express. Students getting ready on the train, with Harry waiting for him.

"So cool." Harry said.

"Agreed." Silas nodded in agreement.

As Silas made his way to put his trunk in the storage area of the train, he was having a bit of a struggle lifting it. He was about to step backwards to try and lift it.

"Stop!" A female voice said, causing him to freeze in place.

Turning around he saw an Asian girl his age, with long red hair, brown eyes, wearing a blue hoodie jacket, white shirt, black skirt, stockings and brown sneakers, running over to him and picked up a toad that was inches from his foot.

Silas gulped, "Oh boy. That was close. Sorry about that."

"First year," she asked. Silas nodded, ss she replied, "Me too, I'm Tulip Karasu."

"Silas Snape."

"So Silas, need a hand with that trunk," Tulip asked.

"Very much so." Sam nodded his head causing her to giggle.

"Alright grab one side and on the count of three, we lift. One…two…three!" Tulip said as they lifted his trunk inside. "Whoo, that was heavy."

"Tell me about it." Silas said.

"So you excited to go to Hogwarts?" Tulip asked, as they walked through.

"Yeah I actually am," Silas nodded as they walked onto the train.

"Well I hope we can hang out more when we get to Hogwarts." Tulip winked before making her way to the train compartments.

'Things here are way different than they were back at the orphanage," Silas said shaking his head before heading to the compartments. Looking around, he saw Harry sitting in one all by himself. "Hey room for one more," Silas asked.

"Always," Harry smiled as Silas sat down, as he put the suitcase down, with Toby plopping out from his backpack and nestled down on Silas's lap.

"You nervous," Silas asked.

"A bit, what about you," Harry asked.

Silas nodded, "Very."

Harry then noticed the suitcase, as he then pointed to ask, "So what's in the suitcase?"

Silas looked down as he knew full well what it could have been, as he looked to Harry. Though not so sure if it would work, but then started, "Well..."

Silas wasn't sure if he should open the suitcase on the train. He trusted Harry but he wasn't sure about a few others on the train yet. If the two entered the suitcase, the train compartment would be viewed as empty and others looking for a seat would try to claim it. That and he didn't know how the inside of the suitcase would work while in a moving vehicle.

However, as the train moved, the same Weasley, Ron, popped up as he looked to them, "Is this car taken?"

"Not at all," Harry offered as Silas moved his things to make room for Ron as he happily entered and sat across from them.

"Thanks. I'm Ron by the way," Ron said hoping to make a good first impression, "Ron Weasley."

"Silas Snape," Silas introduced, as he gently petted Toby, "And this little sticky fingered troublemaker is Toby."

"I'm Harry, Harry Potter."

After hearing that, Ron was amazed, as he asked, "So it's true? DO you really have the? The...?" Ron struggled trying to ask the last part.

"The what," Harry asked.

"The scar?" Ron asked. Nodding, Harry lifted his hair to show it to him. "Wicked," Ron said in awe.

"Yeah, not many scars shaped like that," Silas said when a woman with a snack trolley walked over.

"Anything off the trolley dearies?" She asked.

Having money for the first time in forever, Silas was the first to get up. Walking over with Toby in hand, he wanted to get as much candy as he could only he didn't recognize any of the candy. They had Licorice wands, Chocolate Frogs, Pumpkin Pasties, and Bertie Bott's Every Flavored Beans.

"You ever see any of this candy before, Silas," Harry asked.

"New to me," Silas said, before turning to Harry. "Want to go half on a little bit of everything?"

"Sounds good to me." Harry noded, as they took out some money and paid the woman.

"Want some, Ron," Silas asked, holding out a Pumpkin Pasty.

Ron opened his lunch to see a soggy sandwich and he took one almost immediately, "Definitely."

A few moments, the three boys were surrounded by treats from the trolley. Harry was holding a box that looked like a tent from an amusement park. "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans," Harry said reading the title.

"It's probably an exaggeration to sell the product," Silas said taking a bite of the Pumpkin Pasty.

"They really mean every flavour," Ron explained to Harry and Silas, "There's chocolate and peppermint, and there's also spinach, liver, and tripe." Harry and Silas looked disturbed by the last two. "My brother George swore he got bogey-flavoured one once," Ron continued.

Silas raised an eyebrow at that, "At least this Bertie is true to his sales pitch," he said while looking at the box, "I don't even want to know what other flavours are in there."

"Rumor has it Ablus Dumbledore, the head of Hogwarts, stopped having them because he got a vomit-flavored one," Ron implied.

Both Harry and Silas gulped at that, as they put away their boxes for later. Toby though began to take some of the shiny wrapping, when he came to a Chocolate Frog box, as he pulled at the string which was shiny, releasing a chocolate frog escaping out the window.

Silas blinked, "Those aren't real chocolate frogs, are they?"

"It's just a spell," Ron explained, "Besides, it's the card you want. Each pack has a famous witch or wizard. I got about 500 meself." Silas watched as the frog climbed up the window side and leaped out through the open gap. The frog disappeared from sight. "Oh, that's rotten luck right there," Ron continued while showing sympathy for the frog, "They've only got one good jump in them to begin with."

"I have a feeling that frog is going to be some bird's afternoon snake then," Silas said while trying to see where the frog went.

Toby pulled up a card containing a fancy dressed wizard named Albus Dumbledore. Silas scooped Toby in his lap as he asked, "Is this Dumbledore?"

"I got about six of him," Ron said not sounding surprised.

"So this is Dumbledore," Silas said as he and Harry looked at the person they heard so much about from Hagrid. They looked at each other for a split second and saw that the card of Albus was gone. "Where'd he go," Silas said as he stared at the card that was now empty except for the name.

"Well you can't expect him to hang around all day, can you," Ron asked not sounding surprised by that either.

Silas and Harry looked at each other again in confusion. 'And I thought trading card games could be confusing,' Silas thought remembering how some of the kids were obsessed with the trading cards from tv shows.

Immediately Silas put the box down, not wanting to risk it when he noticed a rat sleeping near Ron. "Is that yours, Ron," Silas asked.

"Yeah this is Scabbers," Ron introduced him, though Toby seemed a bit confused on the rat. "Pathetic, isn't he?"

"Just a little." Harry said.

"I tried to use a spell to turn him yellow, but it didn't work. I'll show you," Ron said as he took out his wand. Just as he was about to cast the spell, a girl with bushy brown hair and brown eyes walked up to their compartment. This was Hermione Granger.

"Excuse me, have you seen a toad," she asked. "A boy named Neville's lost it." She then noticed Ron's wand. "Oh are you doing magic? Let's see it, then."

"Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow." Ron said but nothing happened, the rat was still gray.

"Is that a real spell? If so I don't think it's very good. I'm Hermione Granger by the way."

"Silas Snape." He then held up Toby, "This is Toby." who waved at her with a sheet of shiny candy wrapper, as he stuffed it in.

"Ron Weasley."

"Harry Potter." Immediately hearing Harry's name Hermione was surprised just like everyone else. "Are you really? I've heard all about you. You're in quite a handful of wizarding books."

"I am," Harry asked in surprised.

"Goodness yes, I thought you would have wanted to find everything out. We'll be arriving at Hogwarts soon, you three better get dressed," Hermione said leaving.

"Well, you heard her," Silas said as he reached for his suitcase with school robs in it, "We better look."
