He was gone.
It was weird not having him here. Like a piece of me was missing. I was so used to having him with me, regardless of whatever else we had going on, that when he was gone, I felt off balance.
Maybe that was why I had that security guard help me break into that house. I mean, if I had really wanted in there, I could've done it myself, but it felt better having someone else there with me. Probably because Cael was always with me when I did anything. He was a poor substitute for Cael.
