This for suburbs 2nd challenge, I picked #6- What if during "Pizza Girl" Maria actually picked one of the brothers?
Disclaimer- yeah, still don't own JONAS. Sad day.
Maria and the Three Bears
By From the End of Heaven
Maria was surprised when she receives a call from the Lucas house asking her to come hang out. Ok maybe she wasn't that surprised- it wasn't like this was the first time it had happened. Well it was the first time any of her customers had called and asked her to hang out. She tried to be at least a little modest. They hadn't ordered any pizza for the last 2 days- she thought the crush was over.
Honestly she knew was cute and she was very often called to frat houses- multiple times, and she knew they weren't just calling for the pizza. She has tasted the pizza- her integrity should insist that she deliver for a pizza place that makes good pizza, but it's a job, and she needs it. At least Picarillos has the best interests of the environment at heart- that soothes her conscience just a little.
To her amusement her boss often acknowledges why they are so popular- and he encourages her to keep up their clientele; nothing crossing the line of course- but just enough. She knew she did an excellent job on the Lucas house. That week alone she went to their house 29 times.
She arrived at their house looking adorable and with a pizza. (Praying that they wouldn't ask her to eat it with them) When all three answered the door- she almost felt like Goldilocks and the three bears. They immediately surrounded her- wow this was probably going to be uncomfortable. It was- they all stared at her intently, 3 brothers liking her- can you say crazy train?
The middle brother- Joe started off with a nice corny pick up line. Do men really think pick up lines work? Then the youngest brother growls some nonsense about the phone ringing- yes this is awkward.
The oldest brother, Kevin runs off to the kitchen. Joe uses another lame pick up line. To which she had no idea how to respond- so she just nods and says something about it being cool. Nick again mentions the phone ringing; and suddenly she gets it, it's a code phrase. Probably means that Nick thinks Joe should back off. She giggles internally- and decides that they easiest way to get rid of the young one (too young for her) is to pretend that she thinks he's crazy.
Kevin comes back with a meal for her (Please not the pizza!) crunchy cats. Yum. Maria decides that the older brother is too old for her (and maybe just a little too kooky for her too, especially when she hears his ringtone.)
Nick pulls her aside to sing her a song he wrote for her. Nick wrote her a song? He didn't even know her! This was the crazy train on its way to crazy town. She's amused to learn that she was right about 'the phone is ringing!' when Joe practically yells it at Nick who is dragging her away to his guitar.
The song is actually kind of cute- what she hears of it anyway. Joe interrupts.
"Well actually we ALL" He growls at Nick "wrote that song for you"
"That's so sweet! Thank you!" is the only thing she can think of to say. All three of them smile- Nick is staring at her with an intensity that frankly scares her. Kevin is grinning at her a little too crazily. Joe is smiling at her just right.
Nick sighs and puts down his guitar.
"Look Maria, I'm going to level with you" Nick says
"No dude, I'm going to level with her!" Kevin jumps in literally "I'd level with you anywhere" He says with a dreamy gaze at her.
Her face must have shown her emotions- because Joe calmly says "We'll all level with her" He puts a hand of Kevin's shoulder pulling him back
"Maria- we all like you." Joe says simply. She knew that- she just didn't know what to say.
"Oh" there is silence for a moment- Nick looks like he is trying to think of something to say.
"We-" He starts "We just-"
"You want me to pick?" She says for him.
All three of them look at each other and turn back to nod at her.
Oh well this will be tricky and weird.
"Well-" She starts after some silence. They look at her hopefully. "I don't know this feels weird- I mean you're brothers!"
"It'd be just one date if you want- with just one of us." Joe reassures her.
"Just One?" she reiterates, thinking that one date wouldn't be the end of the world.
"One." Nick promises, probably referencing the number of males.
"Okay then" she agrees, silence again takes hold.
"Well?" Kevin blurts out- Joe lightly smacks him.
"Well... I guess… it'd have to be Joe…" Really it'd have to be Joe- the other too creep her out in different ways- Joe was just right. She sees Joe repress a victory dance- and she regrets this whole thing.
Nick and Kevin look disappointed for a moment and then relieved. She tries to take that the right way.
"Okay then" Joe says with a smile. She makes excuses and says she has to leave- three days later they have their date. Joe may have been just right the other night with his crazy brothers there, but she wasn't so sure now. He kept talking about some girl named Stella- who was apparently the stylist for JONAS. Maria gets the unintentional hint.
"Joe, stop trying to avoid the issue and ask Stella out." She says to him at the end of their meal.
His face doesn't hide the confusion. She laughs and gathers her things, he stands when she gets up. "Don't worry" she tells him "You'll get it eventually" and walks away.
They never order from Picarillos again- and she'd be lying if she didn't say she was relieved.
