PHM Challenge #8 Sara Bareilles Lyrics - It's taken me a looong time but finally here is my entry - it's weird because it's inspired by the quote- yet at the same time doesn't have much to do with it.
Lovely Creation
By From the End of Heaven
"You're a lovely creation; I like to think that I am too, but my friends said I look better without you." – Love on the Rocks
Macy didn't know what happened- what made her actually see it for what it was, it just happened.
She turned on her computer and opened the internet, someone had posted a photo of Nick and Kevin getting orange juice, they were trying to be incognito. Dark jackets and sunglasses, Kevin wore a hat- Nick didn't his hair is probably what gave them away. Nick didn't see the camera- but Kevin did, he was smiling politely.
Something about it woke her up.
Macy suddenly understood the creepiness. The fact that some people stalk them, they take pictures like this, the plaster JONAS all over their rooms- they live and breathe JONAS.
She realized that she was one of those people. Well not as bad- she at least had sports as an additional outlet, but still.
Macy looked around her, she was in her room.
How had she slept here? It was like sleeping in a cave full of bats- all those eyes. Sure it was nice to fall asleep listening to one of their soothing songs- but falling asleep looking at them? Suddenly it felt creepy too.
These pictures weren't the Lucas Brothers. They were JONAS, an ideal, not a reality- unattainable and nonexistent. She put them on a pedestal, no one could live up to that.
Oh and all those useless facts she knew about them! She could've figured out the Middle East- instead she obsessed over Joe's favorite hair straightener. Those facts didn't even mean she knew them at all! It was one thing to know useless little tidbits about a person- another thing to know a person.
Like the way Stella knew just the thing to cheer her up- gummy worms a sport and some classic movies. For Macy it was The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and Sleepless in Seattle- Stella always favored An Affair to Remember, French Kiss and cupcakes.
Those kind of things spoke of friendship- and actually knowing someone.
Knowing facts just gave the illusion of knowing someone.
Knowing someone is knowing when they aren't okay even if they maintain that they are fine.
Knowing someone is being able to read their body language- reading those little facial cues
Fans had deluded themselves into thinking that they knew the celebrities- by listening to radio appearances- watching them on TV talk shows, reading interviews.
Insanity. Something had to be done.
She stepped lightly into the school hallway- memories came flooding in, not good ones.
Oh sweet JONAS- she had attacked and stripped Joe here, knocked Kevin to the ground, beamed Nick in the head over there. Was there any spot in the school that didn't have an embarrassing JONAS memory? How had she been able to even show her face?
Oh cheese! She dressed up Randolf as Nick. Oh poor Randolf, he didn't deserve that- and neither did Nick, how is it possible that he didn't file a restraining order against her?
"Hey Mace!" Macy jumped at the female voice. "What's up?" Stella asked when she saw Macy's expression.
"What is the matter with me?" Macy's voice was frazzled.
"Nothing!" Stella argued "What happened? Did one of those jocks-"
"It's not the jocks- I'm the problem! I'm obsessed!"
"What?"
"I run one of the biggest and freakishly comprehensive JONAS websites!"
"Yeah?"
"I am president of the local JONAS fan club, I am well acquainted with their security guard, I had 43 posters of them on my ceiling! My ceiling! There were layers of them! I haven't even tackled the walls yet. I had to go to the bathroom to get dressed this morning."
Stella seized Macy's shoulders forcing her to stop and look Stella in the eyes. "Macy what happened?"
"I got up- turned on my computer, and someone had posted a JONAS picture. It was Nick and Kevin they were getting orange juice."
"Okay?"
"that was it- everything became clear."
"What?"
"I'm obsessed."
"I know." Stella said exasperated. "What's the problem?"
"That is! It's creepy- I don't think I can look at another JONAS related thing ever again!"
"What about JONAS?" Nick questioned walking up to them.
Macy groaned and turned back to Stella. "Listen I've got to go, I need to find another fan to take over my website." Macy glanced at Nick and grimaced as she stepped away from them- unfortunately she turned right into Joe and Kevin- she repressed a cry of shame and aggravation.
"What's up with Mace?" Joe asked, jabbing his thumb towards the quickly retreating brunette.
"She said something about everything becoming clear." Stella offered.
Macy paced in front of Miranda's locker- determined to finish this today.
"Hey Macy!" Miranda greeted her and immediately launched into a JONAS monolouge "did you see Kevin's ascot today it was-"
"Miranda! Doyouwanttotakeovermywebsite?"
"What?"
"Would you like to take over my website?"
"Why?"
"Never mind that- would you?"
"Of course! It's-"
"Great! I get the transfer documents and give you all the things you need at lunch- I'm meet you here?"
Miranda nodded.
"You're a life saver! Thank you!" Macy rushed off to her first class mentally preparing a to-do list.
Third was her free period- and she could go to the lab to print off all the necessary documents. Then at lunch, after dropping off all the paperwork, she could de-JONAS everything she had at school.
She would have step down from her position of President, she could email Trisha her VP while she was in the computer lab- the next JONAS meeting was Thursday, and then it'd be official. She had a fencing meeting after school- but after that she could work on the JONAS posters in her room. She should really find someone to donate her JONAS paraphernalia to, maybe a charity!
Stella caught up with Macy by her locker- she had dragged a trashcan near and was currently ripping down all the pictures of three familiar boys.
"How did I live like this? I go to school with them!" Stella heard Macy mutter.
"Macy- what're you doing? That's your favorite shirt of Joe's!" Stella motioned to the picture of Joe in a particularly stunning design of hers.
"I'm just taking care of a little problem." Stella didn't like the tone in Macy's voice or the rather violent way she dumped the pictures in the trash. It was a little scary. Stella couldn't respond as the bell rang, and Macy wished her good luck on her chemistry quiz- shoving one last batch of pictures ripped viciously from their place into the garbage.
Macy contemplated her parent's sanity and ability to raise a child. Shouldn't they have had some sort of intervention? She was pretty intense about JONAS- didn't they notice? Didn't they find it the least bit unhealthy?
Ytinasni. Macy thought as she scrapped the tape off of yet another JONAS poster. Thankfully she hadn't found multiple layers of JONAS on the walls- but she wasn't done yet.
"Aawaahaaha!" Stella shouted from the doorway.
"Stella!" Macy greeted while she tore down a promotional poster.
"Macy! What's wrong? What did they do?"
"What?"
"Did Joe say something? I'm sure he didn't mean it! He just says lots of stupid things without thought!"
"Stella what are you talking about?"
Stella made her way through the piles of ripped posters and JONAS clothing to the bed.
"Macy" Stella sighed as she plopped on the bed. "you gave over your website, you were talking frantically about something this morning- you've been dodging the boys. The way you were ripping those pictures out of the locker- just tell me what they did, because they have no idea either."
"What?"
"Why do you hate JONAS?"
"I don't hate JONAS." Macy sank onto the bed
"what?"
"I don't hate JONAS. I could never hate them."
"Then why are you playing Maroon 5?"
Macy tipped her head in confusion.
"Every single time I've come over here- JONAS is playing the background."
"Oh- well it felt weird tearing down their faces while listening to them."
"Ok- lets start over from the beginning. Tell me what you were saying this morning."
"I'm obsessed. It's unhealthy."
"So?"
"So- it's creepy! Even creepier now that I actually know them a little."
"Yeah- but that doesn't mean you need to give up everything that you love!'
"I know."
"But you're tearing down the pictures, handing over the website-"
"It's all good I promise Stells- I'm still me. I am never giving up my JONAS scrapbooks!" Macy grinned as she motioned to the bookcase with a shelf dedicated to JONAS.
Stella smiled back "Good."
"I just don't want to be one of those Robert Pattinson/Twilight obsessed fans."
Stella wrinkled her nose. "Yeah those fans get really creepy. I heard one talking about making a clone of him." Macy shivered.
"Macy?" A bewildered Mrs. Misa walked into her daughters room staring at the devastation, pleasantly surprised by the soft yellow color on the walls that she had forgotten about. "What's going on?"
"Just a little spring cleaning Mom"
"Oh" her mother looked dazed. "Well the boys who were up on your walls are in the living room."
"really?"
"Yes- they said something about apologizing."
"Oh well ok- we'll be down in a minute."
"What is that music?"
"Maroon 5 mom."
"Oh ok- we'll talk later."
Macy nodded as her mother left the room. She twisted to Stella. "Did you tell them?"
"I was with them when Miranda called asking for an interview- as she was taking over your website."
"Do they think I'm mad at them too?"
"Well I did ask them if they did anything stupid to make you hate them."
A sly grin grew on Macy "Want to make them sweat a little?"
Stella laughed and stood up "let's do this!"
