It's been a long time, I apologize! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time, for those of you who celebrate. To end this year, I decided to upload another chapter. Hope you enjoy :-)
The two continued to sit in front of each other, both had their eye's fixated on the clouds outside of the plane.
"It's great, isn't it," Tony suddenly meant.
Kate's eyes wandered to him, "What do you mean?"
Not taking his eyes off the window he replied, "The sky, the clouds. It's like a whole other world up here."
"As if there were no worries," she added, her eyes back on the clouds.
"It's gonna be over... one day."
A small smile appeared on Kate's face, "I think I owe you an apology."
The two looked at each other, "How so?"
"I underestimated you, DiNozzo. I thought you... well, wouldn't be like that. I always thought you'd be the tough guy but not like this."
He stayed silent, showing her that she could go on, "I always asked myself what would happen if everything was back to normal. I mean it was only about two years that I worked at NCIS, right? How much of a difference could I've possibly made. Not a lot."
"You don't need to change something in order to leave an impression behind."
"I guess so. Nonetheless, I was never able to imagine how much this whole thing would have an impact on your lives. I was always telling myself that you all moved on and that you were fine."
"Not so much," as soon as those words left his mouth, Tony wished he kept his thoughts.
Kate giggled in reply to his own reaction, "I probably should've stuck to the law study after all. Maybe my life wouldn't be such a mess than..."
"Hey," he softly started before getting up and sitting down in the seat next to her, "everything's gonna be fine again. I will do everything for that."
Kate couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had never had such a serious conversation with Tony, and the fact that he could be like that, made her heart melt.
He gently put his arm around her and pulled her closer, softly rubbing her arm, "Don't worry, Katie."
"Easier said than done."
"I'm here, aren't I? And as long as you haven't forgotten our time together at NCIS, you'll remember that you can't feel anything but joy when I'm around," Tony laughed happily.
She raised an eyebrow to him, "Oh, really?"
"Really."
"More like I can feel nothing but the will to shut your mouth," she replied in sarcasm.
Tony gave her a funny look, "Wow, I didn't know you wanted to kiss me so badly."
"I wish I had a gun with me right now so I could just shoot you."
"Speaking of which, are you still sleeping with a gun under your pillow?"
"Why? Are you afraid?"
Tony glanced at her, "No, I'm simply asking out of curiosity. It's called making conversation."
"Oh, really? You never had a problem with making conversation so I'm still going for you are scared. And yes, I am."
The male agent leaned back as his muscles started to relax, but he kept his eyes on her, "I was asking because I hoped that you'd affirm it. Seeing as it might be saver."
She smiled. He was so protective. A side she had either never taken much notice of, or he had never shown it a lot, "That's kinda the whole point of having a gun under my head."
"Right," he nodded.
A yawn escaped Kate's mouth as she held her hand in front of it.
"You tired?" Tony asked.
Kate silently nodded, as Tony wrapped his arms around her, pulling her tighter, "Have some rest, Katie," he whispered as he placed a small kiss on her head.
Something gently shook her as she heard her name quietly. Slowly, she opened her eyes.
"Ah, you're finally awake."
She looked up, just to find Tony looking at her, "Did you sleep well?"
"Did you watch me the entire time, Tony? You're starting to be creepy," she joked in a serious voice.
He laughed in reply, "Don't worry, I slept a little too. I didn't mean to wake you, but we'll land in about an hour I think."
"Okay," she nodded, "Is there food around?"
"Should I get some?"
"I'll come with you, who knows what fatty food you'd bring me."
Tony laughed as the two got up to grab some food.
The two returned to their seats after they finished their meal.
"Do you wanna know what I'm thinking?" Tony suddenly asked.
Kate looked at him, "It's something dirty, isn't it? I don't think I wanna know about that, thanks."
"No. I'm thinking about this whole delivering a terrorist thing. Why would the Secret Service agree to something like that?"
"They got their reasons, Tony."
"Yes, but still. Aren't we superior to them? I mean it's our information he stole after all."
Kate shrugged her shoulders in agreement, "It doesn't matter. They're smarter in several ways," her eyes wandered to the window, "They're especially good in making plans. It's hard to fight them despite what power we may or may not have."
Tony gently laid his hand on her shoulder, "I don't care who they think they are or in what ways you are involved in this giant mass. But what I do know is, that I won't let them take your life away like that. I'll be there for you, no matter what. We're a team, remember?"
She looked back at him, the two looking into each others eyes for a moment, before a quiet "Okay," escaped her mouth.
He softly put his hand to her cheek before leaning closer to her. Soon, their lips touched. It was the greatest feeling, they thought, and something they had both desired for too long.
As their lips parted, they just silently looked at each other. No words were needed.
They heard footsteps approaching and brought some distance between each other, just before one of the agents let them know, that they were to land in five minutes.
"When exiting, we will immediately hand him over."
"Okay, thanks," nodded Kate, expecting him to leave, but instead he sat down in the seat in front of them.
"Is something the matter with you, Special Agent Blakely?" Kate asked.
He looked at her with seriousness before speaking, "I just received a call from Director Foster. There was a change in the plan."
"What kind of change?"
Blakely looked at Tony, with an expression that told him it wasn't his business.
"Oh, don't mind me. Keep talking," Tony said in his usual way.
With that, Blakely paid Kate his attention again, "He ordered us to hand over Yadin and then check into the hotel we got and stay for the night. We'll leave again tomorrow morning."
"What? W-Why?"
"I don't know, Director's order. I guess he thinks that we won't find much evidence, or he just doesn't want us to get in trouble."
"That's ridiculous!"
Blakely nodded, "He is getting cold feet."
"What is all that about? This is the most important mission of all, how can he just blow it all up?"
"He said something about us not going to have any access to evidence."
"Great," Kate replied in annoyance, "If he wants to get our country in danger, fine. But I'm not!"
"Woah woah woah, easy there," Tony tried to calm her down, "It's gonna be fine."
"Nothing's gonna be fine, DiNozzo," she angrily said.
"He's the director, he'll know what's best."
Kate looked at him sharply, "Oh really? Just because he has some shitty title doesn't mean that he knows everything better."
"But he has a point, doesn't he? Did any of you ever think about how you're going to find evidence of them stealing naval information? Cause I'm pretty sure it's not just lying around in the open. They're not just some High School kids who hacked someone's social media account. This is serious. And they are good at what they do."
"Then what are we supposed to do? If we can't get information from the actual source, where does he think we get the evidence we need from?"
Blakely shrugged, "I don't know. I suppose he's going back to hacking their computers. Or rather trying to."
"Yeah, great. That's gonna save us all," Kate sarcastically meant.
"Don't worry too much. We'll all figure something out, once we got back, okay?" Tony proposed, looking at Kate who started to calm down.
She nodded, "Okay."
An announcement sounded through the plane that it was to land now.
Their trip hadn't even started yet, but was almost over again. And only Tony knew why.
Hope you liked it :-)
