As the battle was raging in the port, Gangplank and Graves moved on to approach Caitlyn and the wounded Twisted Fate.
"Damn!" Caitlyn said quietly as she saw the pirate captain raising his pistol. She and Fate may were covered from the other pirates' gunshots, but the two champions were coming to them from behind. The sheriff though, was quickly relieved, as Gangplank started shooting her enemies as well. Graves stood like ten meters away from the couple shooting the pirates and occasionally performing buckshot when he had the chance. But the captain got next to Caitlyn and as he ducked down, to avoid the gunfire, he reassured her:
"Don't worry, we're on ya'r side!"
"I got that, but why?" She asked confused.
"Politics… But we'll talk later for that, now let's send those bastarrrds to hell!" He concluded raising his new comrades' morale. Caitlyn nodded and continued shooting. Our champions were outnumbered, but they were more skilled than the enemy they were facing and as soon as Gangplank ordered the cannon barrage the other pirates started retreating.
"You know these people Gangplank? They're probably from your place…" Caitlyn asked him serious.
"They're after the same thing we are, a valuable cargo let's say. One that only the card master knows where it is."
"So what do you want?"
"Information… But, wait a minute, what in the seven seas is the sheriff of Piltover doing with a notorious criminal like Twisted Fate?" Caitlyn fell silent in the hearing of that.
"I'm her prisoner…" The card master weighed in.
"Whatever, WHERE IS THE MAP?!" Graves yelled as he put his shotgun on Fate's chest, who was still sitting on the floor.
"What map?" He replied bored.
"KEGAN RODHE'S TREASURE, WHERE IS IT?!" Graves shouted angrier than before.
"No idea what you're talking about…" Fate answered still in a bored tone.
"Maybe the sheriff will tell us." Gangplank suggested raising an eyebrow:
"I don't think that she wants the people of Piltover to find out that she is enjoying afternoon walks with a criminal…"
"Quit that talk, Gangplank! Or I'll have the police of Piltover arresting you for disturbance of the public peace! Those pirates were after YOU!"
"Were they now? ... Fine then, arrest me and who knows, maybe tomorrow the news will speak of the romance between the sheriff and the rogue, hahahaha…" Caitlyn and Fate looked at each other skeptical. Then he nodded at her before she responded:
"We need to talk captain, seriously."
The night had fallen upon the city of Piltover as its unique lights were shining bright, making it noticeable in all the blackness that surrounded it. The four champions were sitting in Gangplank office inside his ship and by that time each side had revealed its part of the story. Gangplank was now pacing skeptical, while Fate was sitting on a chair near the captain's desk. Graves was sitting too on the opposite side, staring furiously on Twisted Fate who was eating an orange the captain gave him to heal his wound.
"Cursed?... Do ya have it know?" Gangplank asked Fate.
"Here it is…" He put it on the table. It was a black and quite thick book, with silver metal edges. From them there were chains coming out marking an "X" on its cover. In its center there was a relief of a skull. Gangplank raised his eyebrows:
"BY THE BEARD OF POSEIDON! That is cursed to the bone!"
"How would you know?" Caitlyn asked curious.
"Believe me sheriff, I've seen a whole lot of treasures in my time, these chains and skull are the trademark of the necromancers of Lokfar." He explained.
"That's why I want to destroy it." Fate revealed.
"No, no ya won't. We'll find a way to lift the curse then I take it for meself."
"But how can we do that?" Graves, still frowned, suggested:
"I remember that noxian creature, Cassiopeia, she told me once that back when her curse was new, she tried to lift it with many different ways. Didn't do a thing, but she ended up knowing much about this stuff."
"So we wait for a League match and we'll ask her." Fate casually concluded.
"The League is closed for a week. They brought a monster from the Void and they want to train it. Miss Fortune's pirates will have us killed 'till then. We must find her as soon as possible." Gangplank argued.
"Last time I saw her she told me she would spend some time in the Shurima desert, I know it's far, but I think I can arrange a suitable transport for there." Caitlyn ensured the company.
"One other thing…" Graves said in a serious tone:
"Fate, you will be free from the burden of the diary, Gangplank will have his debt paid, Caitlyn her dignity in the police force unharmed… I want… Your head." With those last words he pointed at Fate with his shotgun.
"All I can promise you is a duel. No recall, no respawn, just you, me and destiny…" Twisted Fate proposed calm as always.
"Suits me fine." The outlaw responded. Then Gangplank took a glass of rum that was on his desk and proposed a toast:
"Well mate-ys, I think we have a deal, Godspeed to us all!"
