Couldn't Be
(Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who. In case it isn't clear from the summary, this is supposed to take place before the Snowmen.)
She walked down the street looking around wildly. She was a little disoriented after what had just happened. In fact she was so busy looking behind her she didn't notice she was walking right into a man. The two bumped into each other. Both bounced back a bit and the man dropped all the packages he was carrying.
She turned to face him. "Oh. Sorry."
"You should be." He told her, though he didn't exactly sound . . . angry.
For a moment the two just stood there staring at each other. When it became clear nothing was going to be accomplished that way she gave a soft sigh and started leaning down. "Here, I'll help you with that."
"No. No I got it." He quickly dropped down and started picking his stuff up faster than her. She still managed to get one box though. It was food. "You going away for a while?"
"Uh yes, you could say that." He snatched the box out of her hand. "A long time." He turned back around and started walking away.
"Who are you?" She finally asked.
"I could ask you the same question." He said, still walking away.
"Susan." She stated.
The man didn't turn around. Clearly he was unimpressed, and she wasn't going to get anymore answers. So she turned around too, and walked off in the opposite direction. She had been a little off before, but by now she'd had enough time to recover from her regeneration.
The Doctor walked towards his invisible ladder to the TARDIS. All he wanted to was to hole up in his TARDIS and be left alone. So why hadn't he gotten rid of that girl who had just called her name out after him? It had just seemed like . . . Wait. The Doctor thought, his foot stopping mid-step. Did she just say her name was Susan?
The Doctor spun around. No one was there anymore. It couldn't be anyway. Not the Susan he knew.
(Yes I know Time Lord's can sense each other. Details.)
