North was made aware of the winter spirit in his fortress, in a way that really shouldn't have surprised him anymore.

In other words, dangling by his hoodie in the clutches of a very annoyed looking yeti without his staff. Though Jack looked more confused and peeved than mischievous like he would normally if he was brought to North like this. North decided to have pity and had the yeti put Jack down and return the staff before questioning him.

"So Jack this is pleasant surprise. What brings you here?" North asked, looking down on the much smaller winter elemental.

"I need to use the library. And North, could you please tell the yeti's to not manhandle me when I knock on the door?!" Jack spluttered indignantly.

"You came in through door? Not window?"

"Yes, now can I use the library?"

North slowly put his hand on Jack's forehead. "Don't feel feverish…"

"North I'm fine!" Jack squawked, swatting North's hand from his forehead, "What's wrong with me wanting not to be carried around like a sack of potatoes and using the front door for once?"

"Sorry, just is strange." North chuckled softly, "Now you said you wish to use library?"

"Yes."

"Follow then." North turned and started toward a hallway that led around the workshop instead of right through it, with Jack following close behind. As they got closer to the library, Jack noticed how pristine the hallway looked. It looked as if the elves never went down here.

"That because they don't.' Jack jumped a little, flushing a pale shade of pink all the way to his ears and down his neck as he realized he had been thinking out loud. "They come here, get brought out by yeti." North continued, finally stopping at a large set of ornately carved double doors. "Ah, here we are."

North opened the doors to reveal… what had to be the largest library Jack had ever seen. Jack's eyes nearly popped out of his head, they grew so big at the sight of all the books before him. Row after row of bookshelves almost as tall as the ceiling, with couches and cushions nestled in nooks between shelves and were almost hidden from someone standing at the door, and each shelf crammed full of books, scroll, tablets, papers, and artifacts greeted Jack's sight everywhere they traveled from standing at the door.

"Is incredible, no?" North chuckled seeing the awestruck look on the youth's face as he took in the vast library of Santoff Claussen. "Now what book you need?"

North felt confusion and curiosity take hold as he watched Jack snap out of his reverie and start chewing his lower lip, his eyes darkening in thought.

"Something on spirits." Jack finally said, "Like something on those that are unseen and walked through by everyone… What are those called? Wraiths? Wisps? Something that a spirit can't see and walk through…"

North blinked at the bizarre request. "A spirit that can't be seen by other spirits? Where did you come up with such impossible thing?" He'd never heard of such a thing!

"Jack withered at the question, his eyes darkening with doubt. North felt pity fill him as he watched the spirit wither. "Jack," He started, placing a hand on the tiny spirit's shoulder, "You can look. But don't be disappointed when you find nothing."

With those words, North turned around and walked back to his office, trying to figure out where Jack came up with something that didn't exist.

A thought struck suddenly struck him, causing him to freeze in the middle of the silent hallway, his hands clenching, and his eyes widening.

Was it our fault? Did we leave him alone for so long he started imagining things?

Did he live alone so long he started convincing himself that there was spirits there for him that weren't real?

North felt his heart fill with guilt at the thought of Jack and his three hundred years of loneliness. He started walking back to his office, the heavy feeling of guilt weighing down his mind, finally entering his office and closing the door.

The thought of building wonders out of ice was no longer there, and he sat down at his desk and thought of Jack.

How they left him to imagine things. How they didn't even offer him companionship for hundreds of years.

~Spirits and Wraiths~

Jack watched north walk down the long hallway and waited until he had disappeared around the corner before he turned back to the bookshelves nervously.

Is it true? Am I just imagining things? Jack felt doubt crawl its way into his mind like slime creeping down a wall. Did I just dream up the being on the lake trying to comfort me each time I cried?

No. Jack shook his head to rid himself of the doubtful thoughts. If that was the case I would've imagined arms holding me wherever I cried even if it wasn't at the lake.

My friend is real. Jack told himself, straightening up and glaring at the bookshelves with a hardening resolve. And I am going to find out a way to see him and have others see him.

And with that thought, Jack started his hunt for a book on spirits.

Okay new chapter (FINALLY)

I know, It's been a while since I last updated and this chapter is weak and short and sad, But school work is killing me, and you know what happened?

My freaking flashdrive crashed and wiped out all my files.

This chapter was saved on there and it was like x3 longer than this. I have not been that f*cking pissed in years.

I have to type up the rest on a separate file, since I feel like you guys deserve a chapter since it's been like 2 months since the last update.

So until next time!
