In the end she didn't think she could ever love anyone as much as she loved Harry.
She thought she had loved James just as much. Yet it was Harry, the child she had carried, birthed, and raised, that held most of her love. Harry, her beloved baby boy that loved her without a doubt.
When she heard that the Potter family would be targeted for Harry's birth, she panicked. Her baby- what would she do? How would he survive with the most powerful Dark Lord after his tiny head? Harry couldn't even stand. Harry couldn't even speak. Harry didn't even know magic. How would he live? And how would shelive with Lord Voldemort hunting the Potter family down?
Albus offered to be their Secret Keeper, but James insisted on Sirius. She wouldn't care either way. She wasn't close to Albus like James was, and she trusted his judgement. The Potters would be safe.
But they weren't. Because secretly they had decided to switch to Peter Pettigrew, and Peter Pettigrew was not nearly as trustworthy as Sirius Black. Peter Pettigrew was weak and sought power. Peter Pettigrew betrayed her and her family to the Dark Lord.
When James began shouting for her to run, she was immobilized. 'Keep Harry safe,' her body whispered. 'Stay with James. He needs you.' her mind breathed.
She ran with Harry. She ran to the nursery, her eyes wide in fear and her heart pumping wildly. She set her baby into the crib- oh this would be the last time, she thought- just as the door burst open.
She whipped around, her vibrant red hair flying through the air as she spread her arms in front of Harry. The cloaked figure's slitted red eyes stared hungrily at the baby she shielded, a wand held delicately between his spidery fingers.
"Not Harry! Not Harry- please- I'll do anything-" she gasped through hot tears that streamed down her face.
"Stand aside," Lord Voldemort only said coldly. "Stand aside, silly girl!"

Lily Potter died with tears staining her cheeks, her green eyes glassy, and thinking only of her son.

I'm pretty satisfied with this honestly. It doesn't really go into any sorts of magic like a lot of authors think Lily might have used, but I do think Lily had an extremely powerful love. All of the Potters, really, seeing as James chased after Lily forever and then sacrificed his life, and Harry's 'saving people thing'.
