Why wasn't she good enough for him?
Her image was reflected in the mirror: brown eyes, bushy hair, too-large teeth. She was so plain and boring. She hated how she looked. Why couldn't she be as effortlessly bold as Ginny, or as mysteriously captivating like Parvati? Why couldn't she be as enticing as Lavender and as ethereal as Luna?
Plain old Hermione Granger. Of course her looks would make her undesirable.
She'd tell Harry about how brave and smart and amazing he was and he'd just brush it off awkwardly and tell her how amazing she was. She felt so empowered whenever Harry told her that. And even though he was the one that was always so kind and caring, she saw him as a brother. Harry wasn't the kind of boy she could marry. He could be a knight in shining armor ready to save her, the damsel in distress, but at the end of the day he wasn't for her. And she wasn't for him.
She'd fallen in love with the boy that would never notice her. Why did she have to desire the forbidden fruit? She'd never get him.
At least, she reassured herself, she was smart. She would become a strong woman that would pave her own way through the world. She might not be beautiful, but everyone said she was smart. That she had potential.
But whenever he treated her normally she was reminded of her plainness. That she'd never be noticed because she wasn't beautiful. She was simple. She was Hermione Granger.

If there's love, there's got to be its opposite: hate. Not feeling attractive can really destroy your self-confidence even if you're heads above everyone else in another matter. I think that Hermione feeling not good enough would stop her from really testing the limits of her magic and making something phenomenal happen.
Open to ship interpretation with basically any guy but Harry. Also, if you get this far, please leave a review for me! Constructive criticism would really help me. Thanks for reading!
