It was cold. The moss on the forest floor was damp, reverberating the chill into the air as the misty atmosphere breathed winter into Forks, Washington. The eerie silence was met with sounds of the wildlife, creating a chaotic space. Bella ran through the woods. Her dark hair was plastered to her face from the damp air. Her arms were bare, where she forgot her coat. He hadn't given her enough time to grab one. Her breathing came in pants, as she rushed around, frantic. Edward. But she was alone. Her face was wet, cold. Her tears added to the misting atmosphere on her skin. She sunk low, her back against the rough bark of a tree. She pulled her knees up to her chest. Her mind racing.

(Bella's inner dialogue)

Edward. No. Come back. Please… I can fix it. PLEASE. I can't… I can't… I can't breathe… you can't be gone… no… Edward. COME BACK. I promise I'll be good… I promise not to break… I promise I'm not nothing… I promise to be unbreakable… NO… lion… I'm not a lamb… come back… EDWARD!

(End)

A search party formed for Bella Swan. The missing daughter of the Police Chief Charles Swan or Charlie as everyone called him. No one knew what happened. She was just missing. Her phone on her desk in her room and she was gone for a full day now.

Sam Uley, Quileute tribal leader, returned to the forest behind the Swan residence. Charlie had failed looking there, but Sam wouldn't. With him he brought Paul Lahote and Jared Cameron. Two Quileute men to help with the search. They would find Bella. They were different than ordinary men.

Sam tied his pants to his ankle as he shifted into a direwolf. His secret. The tribe's secret. Jared and Paul followed suit and they rushed into the forest, following the scent of Bella Swan. It didn't take long before Sam zoned in, finding her against a tree, unconscious. He shifted, pulling his pants back on before going to her and pulling her into his arms. She weighed hardly anything, perhaps 100 pounds. But Sam carried her, effortlessly. Jared and Paul shifted back, following Sam out of the forest with Bella. They had all been silent, though they knew what the other was thinking.

Charlie about collapsed when he saw Sam carrying Bella out of the woods. Tears swam to his eyes as he rushed to Sam.

"She's cold. Needs to be warmed up." Sam said gently as he folded Bella over into Charlie's arms. Charlie struggled under her 100 pounds, but he didn't let her go.

They rushed her inside the warmth of the house. Billy Black was there. An old friend of Charlie's. His aging native friend was wheelchair bound but that didn't stop Billy from being there when his best friend needed him most. Jacob Black was in attendance. His dark eyes followed Bella's unconscious frame, worried about his childhood friend. His long raven hair was pulled back in a ponytail out of his face.

"Is she okay?" Jacob asked immediately.

"Son, hold on. Give Charlie some space." Billy said to his son gently.

Paul studied Bella's tiny frame. She looked nearly lifeless but he knew she was breathing. He turned away, going back outside since it was too crowded inside. Jared followed.

Both boys were twenty. Technically men. Paul was taller than Jared. He was 6'2" and about 200 pounds. He was the buffer of the two. Jared was 6 foot on the dot and weighed a little less than Paul but neither had really weighed themselves to confirm. They styled their hair the same. Short-ish and it was dark. Another element of being Quileute. Jared had dark eyes like pitch. Paul's were much the same though his eyes were more like dark stone rather than pitch. A subtle difference no one pointed out.

"At least we found her." Jared said out loud.

Paul snorted. "The forest smelled like leech in the area. It's her own damn fault for being there."

"You can't blame her for being stuck out there."

"She sealed her fate the moment she hooked up with the leech. She deserves whatever is coming to her. It's stupid I got dragged into this search in the first place. I need to be home with Colin before dad gets off work." Paul said, his tone angry.

Colin Littlesea was Paul's brother for all intents and purposes. Colin's mother died when he was 12, leaving him to Terrence Lahote, Paul's dad. They were siblings so it made sense. But to Paul he hated it. He didn't want Colin to be subjected to the abuse of a drunk. So, he protected Colin. That was 3 years ago and still, Colin never spoke. It was hard to care for someone that didn't tell you what they were feeling or thinking. But Paul was a protector and he loved Colin, at least enough to dedicate time to him outside the pack.

Jared sighed. "Bro. You have to see her point of view. Those leeches aren't a walk in the park."

"Yeah and she knew what they were and still walked willingly into the den. I have no sympathy for that bullshit." Paul waved it off.

There was a commotion inside and Paul and Jared rushed back in on instinct.

Bella had came to. She freaked out and now Sam was restraining her on the couch while Charlie called an ambulance. There was broken glass everywhere where she clearly went through the glass table somehow.

"What the fuck happened?" Paul asked, looking to Jacob who looked petrified.

"Paul, outside. Take a run." Sam commanded. Paul had no choice but to listen. He growled a little in frustration but he left the house and took to the woods. Jared followed.

Charlie ran a hand through his hair as he ended the call. "The ambulance is coming." He said and looked at his broken little girl. What had happened in the woods? She was breathing heavy now and crying uncontrollably. Sam held her firm at her shoulders but he noticed the bruises on her arms. What happened to his little girl?

The ambulance got there quick and the EMTs came inside quickly with the stretcher. They were prepared to sedate her and they did, getting her on the stretcher and taking her to Forks General Hospital. Charlie got in his cruiser and followed the ambulance letting Billy take over there at the house.
