~~Where is My Mind? By Pixies~~

Bella took the chicken out of the oven and set it on the stovetop. The kitchen was filled with a yummy aroma. She had made dinner for all the wolves and then some. She was used to them stopping in and out at this point. She hadn't seen Paul since that awkward moment with her dad that morning. Her dad was in the living room with Colin at the moment. They were trying to mount the new TV that her dad finally broke down and bought. The other one decided to start going out and the game was on tomorrow and they needed a TV for that. It was literally the only reason her dad had for buying a TV. Which the new 75 inch TV was definitely oversized, but Best Buy had a good deal and they gave Charlie a discount for being a police officer.

The phone rang on the wall. Her dad was still living in the nineties sometimes and only had a cellphone for work, but most anyone that needed to call him outside of work, called the house phone. It still had the cord too, which Bella teased her dad about all the time. She answered.

"Swan Residence." Bella said, her voice lilted a little. It was silent on the other end. "Hello?" She said and then she heard the click. She sighed and hung up. It was likely a wrong number, but the phone rang again and she answered again. "Swan Residence."

"Sorry." Seth said.

Bella frowned. "Hey Seth, what's wrong?"

"They couldn't reach Charlie." Seth sniffed.

"Seth, hey calm down. What's going on?"

"It's dad… he had a heart attack." Seth cried a little.

"Oh no. I'll get dad and-"

"They took him to the hospital. Bella, I… I didn't know who else to call. Leah and mom went with and I.. I couldn't get in touch with Sam. He's probably on patrol, and then I knew that Charlie and dad were friends and I… I just didn't know." Seth sobbed again.

Bella understood. "I'll tell dad to go to the hospital and I'll get in touch with Sam. I promise."

"I don't want to be alone right now."

"I'll get Paul to come get you. Okay?"

Seth was quiet a moment. "Okay."

"Stay put." Bella instructed then she hung up and went to the living room. "Dad. It's Harry."

Charlie looked over at Bella frowning. "What's going on?"

"He had a heart attack. He's at Forks General. Seth said that Leah and Sue are with Harry. I think you should go." Bella said quickly.

Charlie set the power drill down. "I'm going. Did Seth say anything else?"

"I'm going to have Paul go pick Seth up and bring him here. He's a mess. I don't know how bad it is. Just that Harry had the heart attack." Bella explained.

Charlie nodded and then kissed her temple. "I'll be back when I can." He said then he rushed and grabbed his jacket, keys, wallet and he was out the door.

Colin was frowning. "A heart attack doesn't sound good."

"No. It's not good." Bella said and then heard the timer go off. "Call your brother and have him pick Seth up. I'm going to get word to Sam." She said and went into the kitchen and then opened the bottom oven and pulled out the casserole she made and set it on the stove before she stepped out the back door. "Embry!" She yelled.

Embry came out of the treeline in his wolf form. It was starting to get dark out so he wouldn't be noticed with the lighting. His wolf form was unique. His dark gray fur had dark black spots on the side and his face was white with a dark streak down his snout. He eyed Bella.

"Tell Sam. Harry had a heart attack. Seth couldn't get in touch with him. If Paul is in wolf form, tell him that I need him to get Seth and bring him here. But Colin is trying to call him now." Bella relayed.

Embry nodded his head and then ran back to the treeline only to return wearing his pants, but was shirtless. "Bella, Paul is on his way to Seth. Sam is shifting patrols and he's headed to the hospital now."

Colin walked into the kitchen. "I couldn't get Paul on the phone." He said.

"It's okay, he was wolfy at the moment." Embry relayed. "He's getting Seth." He said and smelled the chicken. "You're still cooking?"

"Oh, it's done. Get you something to eat Em." Bella said and looked at Colin. "I'll help with the TV. Try to go on like normal. That's all we can do until we hear back about Harry." She said.

Embry waved Bella off. "I'll eat after the TV. I can get it done." He said and walked into the living room. "Holy shit, did he buy the biggest TV he could find?"

Bella smiled a little. "Yeah, I think so." She said and looked at Colin. "Hey, go get food. You need to eat." She said and slapped Colin's back as he walked past her.

Embry looked at the drill then picked it up and finished getting the bracket on the wall that would hang the TV. "Looks like he almost had it done." He commented and then he lifted the TV without struggle. That was the perk of being a wolf. Their strength. He mounted the TV with ease and then got everything hooked up. He turned the TV on and was amazed. "This is so cool."

Bella smiled. "Thank you. Dad will appreciate it. Go and eat before all your brothers get here. I have more chicken to put in." She said and followed him back to the kitchen. She moved around the kitchen getting the second set of chicken to go in.

Paul arrived with Seth, who went to Bella immediately and hugged her. It was obvious that he was upset, but he had stopped crying.

Bella really did feel bad for Seth. They left him there in a hurry probably. Leah likely had to drive Sue to the hospital since Sue Clearwater was likely a mess from her husband collapsing like that. "Get some food. It'll help you feel better." She murmured then pulled back to pat Seth's cheek and offer a smile.

Seth just nodded, he grabbed a plate then got some chicken and the casserole.

Paul walked over to Bella and grabbed her hand in his. "Hey. I got news about Harry." He said quietly.

Bella nodded and they left the kitchen to go upstairs in her room. She shut the door and looked at him. "How is he?"

"Not good. He's on a ventilator. The doctors are saying that it isn't looking good at all for him." Paul said. "Sam called me right before I got here. I was waiting for Charlie to get back before talking to Seth." He said.

Bella crossed her arms and teared up. "Seth is just a kid. This is going to crush him." She murmured.

Paul nodded and then reached for her, sensing how upset she was feeling and pulled her into his warm embrace.

Bella inhaled his scent, instantly calming down. It was crazy how his scent could just melt away the worry like that. "Thank you." She murmured against his chest. He radiated heat and he was her own little personal sun it seemed.

Paul kissed the top of her head affectionately and then drew back to look at her. "Hey, you care so much after what happens to members of the tribe. I want to thank you. You're so strong Bella." He murmured.

Bella shook her head. "I'm not. I'm a mess."

"You are strong to me." Paul said. "The guys will be here soon. Jake took Billy to the hospital to be with Harry. So he's there, but the others are coming here. I know it's earlier than normal, but-"

"Dinner will be ready for them. We'll just hang out until dad gets back." Bella said. "Surround Seth with brotherly support. He's going to need it." Bella said then she tipped up on her toes and she kissed Paul. It was just a soft kiss, but that's all they needed for right now.

They returned downstairs. Colin had something going on the TV. Looked like the movie Free Willy. Bella thought that was cute. It was a much needed distraction for Seth right now. Embry was on the chair, feet propped up in the recliner watching as the beginning of Free Willy started.

Bella got Paul some food then set the plate in front of him at the bar and Paul sat down. He always had an appetite. Wolves usually ate a lot in general and he was one of the bigger wolves so he ate far more than the others. Bella got herself some of the casserole. She didn't eat a lot and that worried Paul. She was already so thin.

"You're not going to eat chicken?" Paul asked.

Bella smiled. "I'm actually not a big meat eater. I prefer the vegetarian lifestyle." She said.

"I didn't know that actually." Paul said, realizing that he didn't know a lot about Bella. He needed to know more about her. That desire to know everything about his imprint was there. "Any other hidden secrets?" He teased.

Bella smiled. "My favorite color is blue." She said.

Paul chuckled a little. "I did know that. Your room is basically all blue." He pointed out.

"Well, I like to paint." Bella said and thought about other things. "I like photography. I used to dance."

"You? Dance?"

Bella smiled. "Yeah. I was a ballerina." She said and then finished her food and then went to wash it. Paul had finished his food and met her at the sink. His warms came around her from behind. She blushed a little, thinking about what his hands did to her.

Paul smiled and kissed the side of her neck. "Go sit. I'll wash these."

Bella shook her head. "I can wash them."

"I know you can, but I want you to sit down so I can take care of them." Paul said and turned her to look at him. "Please?" He said, his dark grey eyes stared down at her.

Bella just sighed and smiled. "Alright." She gave in then went and sat at the bar while Paul washed the dishes. "Hmm. Actually this is quite the look." She said and imitated a camera with her hands.

Paul smiled and rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm used to taking care of everything." He said. "Washing dishes isn't a big deal."

"Well, thank you." Bella said and leaned on the counter, her hand propped up under her chin. She was getting used to having Paul by her side. She wondered how crazy it was. The notion that her and Paul being together. Her smile faltered a little as she thought about how they came to be. If it wasn't for the imprint, then they wouldn't be here like this together. Paul was forced to care for her and that ate at her a little inside.

Paul frowned, feeling that she was questioning the imprint. He finished washing the last dish then dried his hands and went to her. "Stop questioning the imprint." He murmured softly. "Bella, I want this. I'm not fighting the imprint. Neither should you. I promise you that this is where we are supposed to be."

"But… if it wasn't for the imprint… you wouldn't be here right now."

"That's not true. Colin is here. You have helped him more than I could. I am grateful for that. I am grateful for you and that's not the imprint talking."

"You can't be sure." Bella pointed out. "We hated each other."

Paul sighed. "I thought we moved past this."

"I… you're right." Bella said, dropping it. She didn't want to upset Paul. She didn't want to admit it, but she did need him. He kept the nightmares away and that was good enough for right now.

Paul swiveled her around on the barstool to face him. He dipped his mouth down to hers and kissed her. She leaned into the kiss, parting her lips so his tongue could sweep across to meet hers. Her hands gripped his hips as she pulled him closer to her and he did, his hands sweeping up into her hair as he changed the angle on the kiss.

It was the sort of kiss that would steal away your breath and make time stop, which is exactly what it did to Bella. She could sense the primal urge in Paul and it flooded all her urges. It was the imprint, she knew, but Paul was holding on to the control. Bella lacked the control, so she was glad Paul at least had the control not to pop her up on the counter and ravage her right then and there.

They heard someone clear their throat, and Paul pulled away from Bella and glanced over at Colin. "Hmm?"

"Well, I was coming to get juice." Colin said with a smile. "However, I do think I need more explanation. When did you two start dating?" he poked fun.

Bella felt her cheeks redden and she looked down at her hands.

Paul smirked a little. "It's new. We-"

"We aren't dating." Bella said, looking at Colin. "We just uh…"

"Taking it slow." Paul said and looked down at Bella. "Anyways. Get your juice and go watch the whale movie."

Colin smiled, actually excited for his brother and for Bella. He knew that Bella had been through a lot. But so had Paul and he thought they suited each other. He grabbed juice from the fridge and smiled at Bella before going back in the living room.

Bella ran a hand over her face. "Sorry, I get embarrassed easily."

Paul smiled. "I think it's cute." He said and tilted her chin up to look down at her. "You're cute." He murmured and it caused Bella to blush again. He leaned in and kissed her again softly.

Bella's eyes fluttered shut and she moved her hands up under his shirt. She loved feeling his hot skin under her hand and when her hand connected with his chest, it sent them both into a flashback.

"Bella, are you okay?" A panicked Emmett was staring at Bella.

Bella was trembling a little. "I'm fine. Why… Why would you ask?"

Emmett looked at her confused. "Bella… you don't… Carlisle said…"He dropped off.

Bella shook her head. "Are you okay Em?"

Emmett sat back, brushing a hand through his hair confused as well. "How did you get the bruises on your arms?" He asked her softly, concern obvious in his tone and look.

"I'm pretty clumsy Em. I'm okay." Bella offered a smile.

Emmett studied her eyes a little and shook his head. "You're not okay Bella. Listen, you need to just leave him."

"I love Edward, Em. Why would I leave? I'm his mate. Forever." Bella said, her voice slightly mechanical.

Emmett shook his head. "You're not. Bella, I need you to listen to me. He's dangerous. I wouldn't be able to live with myself is something bad happened to you. Bella, listen, the birthday party…Ed-" He cut off when the door opened.

Edward entered. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing." Emmett said quickly.

Edward glared at his 'brother'. "Get out." He said, his voice harsh.

Emmett hesitated and looked at Bella before slipping out the door.

Edward looked back at Bella. "His thoughts were unclear. What did he say to you?"

"He was worried about the bruises. I'm pretty clumsy." Bella repeated what she told Emmett.

Edward's hand snaked out fast and caught her at her throat and tightened. "You are mine. Forever Bella. You're my mate."

Bella swallowed through his tight hold. "I know that. I love you." She said as she raised a shaky hand up and cupped his hard, cold chiseled face.

Edward growled and pinned her against the wall and his mouth assaulted hers roughly, his hands bruising her wrists this time as he used one hand to pin them above her head. The other hand rummaged up her shirt, his icy touch sending hard shivers through her. His eyes were darker than normal, he hadn't fed in a while and he was always dangerous at this level. "You're mine." He broke the kiss to say and then his hands ripped at her pants.

Bella sucked in air then shot up off the stool and backed away from Paul. Her eyes were filled with tears. She felt her chest tighten. She was crumbling as she felt engulfed with the memory. It continued to break through her reality and the memory kept replaying in fragments.

Paul had to get a handle on himself before he went to her. His anger was boiling, but when he saw Bella and her state, he instantly sought to help her. Nothing else mattered more to him than her wellbeing. "Bella. Shh." He went to her and tried to calm her by reaching for her, but she pulled away from him.

It was such a commotion that Colin, Embry and Seth came out of the living room to see what was going on.

"What's wrong?" Embry asked, alarmed.

"It's another memory." Paul said quickly. "Bella. Hey, it's me… it's Paul." He coaxed and reached for her again, but she was sunk deep in the memory. Paul noticed that her eyes were glossed over. "She's trapped." He said, not sure how the memory thing even worked. It was the first time he wasn't in the memory with her to even see her face. "Bella, please, it's Paul." He desperately called to her.

Seth and Colin were anxious, watching Bella as she went to the floor. She was sobbing and scrambling away from Paul.

Paul went to the floor with her. He managed to grab her hand, holding it tight in his and he pulled her into his arms forcefully. The moment his arms wrapped around her and she was enveloped with his scent and warmth, her eyes changed. She blinked rapidly, fighting to get out of the memory. She was breathing heavy. Paul was trembling now, anxiety high because he was anxious himself and then feeling Bella's high anxiety was running through him. "It's me… It's Paul." He murmured, his voice strained.

Bella buried her face in his shoulder and wrapped her arms around him now.

Paul felt some of the anxiety release when she hugged him back. "Thank god." He said and leaned back to kissed her a few times. "You're okay. I've got you."

Bella felt her heart start to calm after being in his embrace. He wouldn't let her go. "Paul…."

"Yes. It's me. I'm here." Paul reassured her. His hands moved up to her head, threading with her hair as he stared into her eyes. "You're okay. He's not here. He's not hurting you. I promise I will never let him touch you again. Do you understand?"

Bella nodded. "I know." She said and he kissed her again. "I'm so sorry." She said in between his kisses.

Paul shook his head. "It's not your fault. Never… never apologize." He murmured and just hugged her again. He was overwhelmed with so many emotions right now that tears actually breached the surface.

Embry had never witnessed anything like this and he certainly had never seen Paul like this with a girl ever. It was clear how bonded Paul and Bella were. "Um. Paul. You're shaking." He said, noting how much Paul was shaking. It was usually a sign he was going to wolf out.

Paul swallowed, leaning back to look at Bella. "I need… I need to get air. I promise I'm not leaving."

Bella nodded and they detangled from one another and Paul went outside. Embry helped Bella out of the floor and she went straight for the back door to see Paul.

Paul was pacing, his hands in his hair as he tried to calm himself down.

Bella hugged her arms around herself. Watching Paul go through this. It was her fault. She had flooded him with her memories and then she freaked out on him. She felt tears on her face. She cried for Paul and how she was hurting him. He didn't deserve a freak like her. He deserved so much more.

Embry lay a hand on Bella's shoulder. "Paul is going to be okay. He's not wolfing out. This is a good sign." He murmured. "He's getting better Bella."

Paul managed to work through it in his head and he looked over at Bella, her worried expression. He had stopped trembling so he went back to her and Embry removed his hand from Bella's shoulder instantly. "Bella."

"Paul." Bella murmured, her dark eyes still worried.

"I'm okay." Paul said, trying to reassure her. He could feel her worry.

Bella nodded. "Okay." She said.

Paul reached for her. "I'm not going to hurt you. I would never…" He said, his voice still strained.

Bella knew that he wouldn't hurt her. "I'm not afraid of you hurting me. I'm afraid of hurting you." She said and reached a hand up and cupped his face. "I'm sorry you were hurting."

Paul leaned in and kissed her softly. "I know. And you don't have to apologize. Stop apologizing." He said and then he hugged her. She calmed with his touch, and that was enough for right now. It had to be.
