a/n: It's the least I can do.
"Did you mean for it to end like this?"
"No. I didn't. But it happened anyways."
"That's life."
"I suppose it is."
Blaze looked down at the blood pooling beneath her feet.
"What do you think? Was it justified?"
"Probably."
"That's not much of a vote of confidence."
"It wasn't supposed to be. Who am I to judge?"
"You have a pure heart. It only seems right that you make a decision like this."
"It doesn't seem that way to me."
Blaze sighed and looked down at the corpse. Its bulk was notable.
The pool of blood was growing.
"What should I do?"
"Who knows?"
"Maybe I should burn it."
"Maybe you should. It's up to you."
"It would be the easiest option."
"It would be."
Blaze paused. Her eyes searched for the moon, but it was missing. Her eyes searched for the stars and found them. But they seemed like pale imitations.
She found herself feeling cold all of a sudden.
"It's chilly."
"Yes."
"We should get rid of the body."
"Yes."
"How should we go about it?" Blaze asked.
"What was your first suggestion?"
"Burn it."
"Burn it?"
"Burn it."
"I see. Blaze?"
"Yes?"
"Where are we?"
She paused to think. Suddenly there was nobody beside her.
Suddenly there was someone beside her.
"Blaze?"
Suddenly there was a lot of blood.
"Blaze?"
There was no moon in the sky.
There was no sky.
The corpse stirred.
"It was a lie," she said slowly. "Because I did mean it after all."
The corpse coughed and clawed at the ground.
She tilted her head and smiled.
Her hands were alight with flame.
"I'll scatter your ashes to the unforgiving winds. There, you will find peace. Peace from the world. Peace from me."
She rolled the corpse over.
"Thank you, my friend. I love you."
She plunged her hand into the corpse's chest.
It burned easily.
She melted slowly.
All at once, she woke up.
She looked at the ornate ceiling and felt the tears come down.
Not a dream, but a fantasy.
"I'm sorry. You died because of me. You were lost because of me."
She clutched the sheets in her fists.
"I couldn't even give you a funeral."
The moon outside of her window was missing. And the rest of the sky along with it.
She would think of his smile, and wish that she had disappeared along with everything else.
"Did you mean for it to end like this?"
She held a hand to her head as the voice echoed through. One golden eye opened, robbed of light.
"No. I didn't."
