Chapter 2

"What did you get?"

"Pork, you?"

"Beef. Trade me!" A man with a bandage over his face prodded his partner, receiving a one-eyed glare.

"No Kotetsu, you already touched yours." He turned back to his lunch, ignoring the wounded look his friend was sending him.

"Izumo, wait!" Kotetsu shouted, bumping his fist against Izumo's. When he pulled back both formed a symbol with their fingers.

Scissors beat paper.

Izumo smiled triumphantly and continued eating while Kotetsu sulked.

Moments later, an orange and blond blur appeared in front of them from the direction of the village. The boy jumped in the air, grinning. "Yes! I win!"

"Naruto, it wasn't a race!" The only girl of the group shouted at him as she and the black haired boy followed, albeit at a slower pace.

It was that lovable Team 7.

Kotetsu leaned back in his chair, "Wha'daya want?"

"We are here to pick up the travel reports." the pink haired girl replied, giving her teammate a glare.

Naruto pouted and crossed his arms, but perked up when their teacher arrived. "What took so long Sensei?! Oh, I get it, you're embarrassed that I left you in the dust, right?" The boy grinned cheekily when his teacher sighed in mock exasperation.

Izumo gathered the logs and went to hand them over when his partner abruptly stood up.

"W-What is that!" Kotetsu had his eyes glued on the treeline as he shouted in alarm.

Everyone turned to see what he was looking at, but all they could make out was a small dark shadow, with what looked like little arms sticking out from its head.

Naruto yelped in fear, his eyes going wide, "T-T-Tree monster!"

Sakura, startled by Naruto, jumped and let out a tiny screech.

Buffy stepped out of the treeline, eyeing the huge wall and the city beyond it with relief. She had become unusually tired halfway through the journey and could barely find the will to walk further.

She halfheartedly picked the leaves and sticks out of her hair, knowing it was beyond repair. "I am never going hiking. Ever. Again."

Her gaze followed the wall to a gated opening, where a group of people were staring at her.

As soon as the petite girl had revealed herself, Naruto straightened up with a blush on his cheeks. "Oh, it's just a girl..."

Sasuke snorted, "Ch, idiot."

Kakashi ignored the argument that was brewing behind him as he took in the appearance of the girl. She was dressed in clothes with... sushi on it? If that hadn't caught his attention, the kunai in her shoulder sure did.

The girl didn't look like she was about to attack them—in fact, it appeared she was going to pass out.

Buffy took a step forward and would have fallen on her face if it weren't for the hands gripping her upper arms, keeping her up. Her hands clutched the green fabric of his vest, tilting her head to look up into the masked face above her.

She made a sound of pain at the twinge in her shoulder, then managed to glare weakly at him. "If you kill me while I'm passed out, I'll come back and kick your ass. While you're at it, could you please tell me why everyone in this damn place is dressed like gay ninjas?"

Buffy's head fell forward as she lost consciousness.

The jonin's one uncovered eye blinked in confusion.

His students rushed over to him, bombarding him with questions.

"Who is she?" Sasuke asked, training his eyes on her unconscious form.

"What'd she say, huh, huh?" Naruto questioned, his hands behind his head.

"What is she wearing?" Sakura asked, looking at the woman being supported by their sensei with raised eyebrows.

He gathered the girl up in his arms, absently noting how light she was, and waved his students off. "Whoever she is, she needs medical treatment. I'll go to the hospital while you three carry on here."

"What!?" His genin cried in outrage, but he had already disappeared.

"I can't believe Sensei ditched us after saying how important these missions are!" Naruto grumbled as they left with the logbooks, and that was something all three of them could agree on.

Izumo shook his head. Their masked colleague was more than capable of handling any situation the girl could present. He turned back in time to catch Kotetsu a second away from grabbing one of his pork slices.

"Eh, this isn't what it looks like?" he laughed nervously, inching away.

Izumo cracked his knuckles and gave him a glare that meant certain death.
