Chapter 3
The young woman was whisked out of his arms as soon as he arrived to the hospital. Kakashi gave the medic-nin what little about her he had analyzed as they took her into a room.
Something fell to the floor, the glint of metal catching his eye. He picked the cloth up and stared at the headband.
Konoha was not on good terms with Suna, so what exactly would a shinobi from the desert be doing all the way over here? Was she alone, or was the rest of her team still out there?
Save for the headband and kunai in her shoulder, there wasn't anything to indicate the blonde even was a shinobi—of course it could all be manufactured to look that way.
Many questions flew through his head as he stopped a passing staff member and made sure the woman wouldn't be left alone, before departing for Hokage tower.
A hour later, Team 7 rushed through the doors, searching for their teacher.
"He conveniently forgot about the second mission he scheduled us for." Sasuke crossed his arms, but the angry expression on his face was not as threatening with the streak of dirt on his cheek.
Sakura nodded, rubbing her back, a crick having formed from sitting hunched over for the last thirty minutes. "I bet he dropped that woman here and went off to relax!"
Naruto shuddered at the thought of weeding more gardens. He was a shinobi, damn it!
The far dirtiest of the three approached the counter, slapping his hand down, "Hey! Where did Kakashi-sensei go?"
The woman glowered at him, eyes moving to the dirty hand-print the kid left on her important papers. "Hatate-san isn't here." He rubbed his hand on his shirt sheepishly while she huffed. "Are you his students?"
The three genin nodded.
"Good. I need you to do something for me..."
That was how the pre-teens found themselves "guarding" the unknown woman's room, though from what they had no clue, as the medic informed them that she was still unconscious.
"How annoying." the Uchiha muttered.
Naruto agreed, "Mah, I wanted to find out more about that lady, but this is torture!"
"Quit complaining, at least we aren't doing more yard work." It was quiet for a moment before the pink haired girl spoke up again. "They said to watch the woman, right?"
The boys blinked at her. "They never said which side of the door we had to be on, though." She was curious too!
A grin spread over Naruto's face. "Oh, I see! Nice, Sakura-chan!"
"Of course!" she replied, flipping her hair over her shoulder smugly, basking in the praise even if it wasn't from her crush.
"Hn." Sasuke reached for the door all the same.
"Hmm," Smoke drifted into the air while an aged man in white robes listened to the report. "This certainly is troubling. I'll send out a squad to investigate the area."
"She had nothing that could be used to identify her, that we know of so far. Only that." The jonin nodded to the suna headband. "Which doesn't give us anything at all."
The Hokage nodded, "Go back to the hospital and find out what you can from the medics. If she is a kunoichi, then we will soon know."
"There is one more thing," Kakashi sighed. "She said something to me before she passed out that I didn't understand."
"Oh?" Hiruzen looked curious. "Do we need to get a code decipher?"
"No, it didn't sound like a code, it was as if she was speaking a completely different language. Of course, I could be wrong."
A moment of silence passed. "Don't look so down, Kakashi! We will figure it all out." Hiruzen smiled, puffing on his pipe.
"Now, I believe your team has completed quite a few missions this week..."
"...she looks dead."
"Naruto, don't be rude!" Even though it is kind of true.
The three genin studied the young woman, who showed no signs of consciousness—even as Naruto peeled back one of her eyelids to see what color her eyes were.
"Boo~"
The unexpected whisper caused Naruto to fall to the floor, Sakura to let out a screech, and Sasuke to momentarily lose his balance, though he didn't fall.
They turned in unison to find their sensei crouched behind them with a smile on his face. "My my, what rude little students I have! You're not supposed to take advantage of a woman while she's asleep." He shook his head.
Sakura turned bright red, looking outraged. "T-That's—what?!"
"Where have you been?!" the blond questioned, staring hard at Kakashi, who simply waved a hand.
"Around." He watched his students fume before finally relenting. "I was going to tell you that the Hokage gave you a break from missions for the next few days due to how busy we've been, but If you'd rather sweep some chimneys—"
"No!" Sasuke replied harshly, cutting him off.
Sakura, stared happily at her crush, wondering if they could go on a date now that they had so much free time.
"Yes!" Naruto grinned. After this break he'd definitely tell the Jiji that he wouldn't do any more A or B ranks.
"As long as you three remember to train regularly, you're free to go." That was mostly directed at the two more loud team members. He had no doubt the black haired boy would train endlessly anyway.
Sasuke made a sound of agreement to him before turning to leave. Sakura followed after him, pausing to look back with uncertainty at the unconscious girl, before leaving as well.
"You heard me, right, Naruto?" Kakashi said, noticing the blond boy sticking around.
He nodded, and rubbed the back of his neck, "Yeah! It's ok though, I don't really have any plans at the moment, so I'll keep you both company!"
The masked man inclined his head. He knew of the way Naruto was treated around the village, not finding it surprising that he would stay.
