Disclaimer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created by the amazing Joss Whedon, and Naruto by the equally awesome Masashi Kishimoto. I am writing purely for the entertainment of myself and (hopefully) others.
Any time someone is speaking Japanese in-front of Buffy, it will be in bold.
Enjoy, and thank you for your reviews!
Chapter 4
Kakashi looked over the top of his book for the third time, catching his blond student fidgeting yet again.
He sighed, closing it. "Naruto, this is why I said you could go home; she will probably be out for a while. The amount of poison in her system was enough to drop a fully grown man."
Stubbornly, Naruto shook his head. "No way! I'll be the first to know what happened…" he smiled evilly, finally getting a one-up over Sasuke.
The masked man gave him an exasperated look, grabbing a handful of orange jump suit and pulling the boy out of the room. "Come on, I'll buy you one snack from the machine."
"Only one?!" he cried, struggling against his teacher's grip.
Minutes after they left, the woman on the bed started to stir.
Was it all a dream? Buffy wondered, slowly waking up.
She waited for the sluggishness to leave her mind. She was laying in a bed, but it was much smaller and less comfortable than her own. She stayed still, listening, but the only thing she could hear was background noise. I'm not dead again... right?
Slowly opening her eyes, the slayer viewed the white-washed walls and multiple white beds identical to the one she was laying in.
It was very unsettling.
Where's my reward for saving all of humanity? She pouted. The least they could do is give me a cookie!
The door suddenly opened and a young boy skipped in, waving around a handful of cookies.
"Freddie Prinz Jr. holding a puppy and a box of my favorite chocolates!"
A man that was decidedly not Freddie Prinz Jr. stepped in next, closing the door.
"Damn," she mused, taking another look at him, though she couldn't see much because he was wearing a mask. "Oh! It's you!" she pointed, surprising the young boy—who stared at her with wide eyes.
"Kakashi-sensei, you said she wasn't supposed to wake up yet!" he accused, holding his snacks to his chest.
The silver haired man blinked. "Apparently not…" He made a mental note to question the medic again. He was sure that the toxin coating the kunai pulled from her shoulder was very strong.
Buffy frowned, really, really missing Giles. He could speak five languages, and this was one of them, she was sure! What were those words Willow had tried to teach her…?
"Uhh… konnichiwa?" she blurted, though it came out as more of a question.
The young boy in orange bounced up to her, invading her personal space. "Hey! I'm Uzumaki Naruto, who are you? What happened to you out in the forest? Do you want a cookie?"
"Uh..." Talking too fast for Buffy to even attempt to hear something semi-recognizable, she could only stare back. "...domo arigato, mr roboto?" On man, Willow would have been very disappointed in her for that last line.
Naruto tilted his head, "Huh? I'm not a robot! But you're welcome—even though Sensei did most of the work bringing you here. What is your name?"
Kakashi intervened, "Naruto, she isn't going to answer any of your questions."
"Why not?" he demanded, turning to his teacher, affronted.
"Judging by the lack of inflection in her words and her odd intonation—" he sighed at Naruto's blank look, "She cannot speak our language and is merely repeating phrases that she has heard."
"Oh... wait, where is she from then? And why is she here?" he scratched his head.
Exactly, Kakashi thought, his gaze drawn to the young woman when she cleared her throat.
"I am sitting right here, you know," she said dryly, crossing her arms, "If you're going to talk about me right in front of my face maybe make it a little less obvious."
Naruto dropped the packages onto the bed and pointed at himself, "Naruto!" He stared expectantly up at her, before repeating the gesture, "Na-ru-to."
Either he was trying to tell her something about his toe, or...
"Buffy." she replied.
"Hah! She gave me her name!" he grinned at her, and Buffy hesitantly grinned back.
This would be so much easier if she had some sort of translation spell, or at least a phrase book!
