Preface

"Let me go!" I screamed, thrashing against the marble restraints around my neck and waist.

A harsh laugh pierced the darkness as my attacker's arms tightened around my form.

"And why would I let you go, hmm?" He whispered against the skin of my neck.

Adrenaline pulsed through my veins at his close proximity, my instincts, I figured, warning me to run. No matter how hard I ran though, I knew I'd die either way. My attacker was nothing close to being human.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, preparing myself to die. My mind ran through all of the happy moments in my life, flashing across the backs of my eyelids.

Then something happened that I didn't expect. A rush of energy pushed up from my toes to my chest and I felt strange... as if I was stronger than before.

"No answer, child?" He said in a low voice. My eyes remained closed as I got used to feeling like I could hurt him back. It was strange, because I had no idea why I should feel like that.

He chuckled and then his teeth grazed my flesh...

And I killed him.
