II
As I walked onto the stage, people whispered about me, asking each other for confirmation of Soldier Hawk-Heart being a tribute, making sure that it was me, the leader of squad 384. Once I actually got to the stage, I gave my famous signal: I scratched my right eye.
So when Gurney Trinket asked for volunteers, there was only silence.
After the reaping, we were lead into the District's justice building, where we were each assigned a room and an hour to say goodbye to our loved ones, though I had no friends, no family, so only one person came.
"How's old triple H doing?" a solemn voice rang through the room, "With his slit pupils and the gold and purple eyes."
Trust Hazel to say the weirdest things at the weirdest times. "I just came to give you this." she took a rope necklace out of her pocket, it had a lion's tooth on it with four stone beads surrounding it, two on each side, one was gold, another purple, a third was white and a fourth was black, all in the shape of leaves, "Wear it as your district token in the arena. I know you can win. Show the Capitol just how much old Hawk-Heart can take. Goodbye, hopefully, I will see you soon. In person, alive." after that, Hazel left.
An hour later, Iris and I were on the train station, boarding a train that will take us to the Capitol. As soon as we came onto the train, I walked into my compartment and fell asleep. When I woke up, it was time for dinner, so I went to the dining compartment and sat at the table.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Iris asked me. I shook my head. That continued for the entire two days it took to get to the Capitol, yet no-one figured out my plan.
When we arrived at the Capitol, I was starving and thirsty, so when I was sent to be remade for the opening ceremonies by my stylist and prep team, my prep team fainted at the sight of my ribs sticking out, my hollow cheeks, growling stomach and hungry eyes, but my stylist didn't mind. When she came in, she just stepped over their lifeless bodies.
"Hello, my name is Farina, I am your stylist." she pointed at the prep team, "I'm guessing they did nothing," she clicked a button, and a steaming meal appeared on a table, "would you like something to eat?" I shook my head. She looked at me strangely, "Really?" I nodded. She shrugged
"So, how to present you for the opening ceremonies… well, what is District five? Power. And what is the meaning of power in this case?"
When I realize this is a question, I answer, "Providing electricity and plumbing for the Capitol, but mostly the first."
"Exactly." she said that one word, and nothing more.
Before the opening ceremony, Farina gave me my costume; it was a black suit with no sleeves. She put no make-up on me (my prep team not even being able to look at me), and left my hair in a mess. I didn't even have to bathe in strange oils and lotions, which I was grateful for.
When I sat in the District five chariot, Farina came and explained my costume: I was going to be electrified, most static, some fake electricity. The source is my sleeves but it will engulf my body in blue electricity. It would've perfectly matched an electric blue District Five eye. She told me to completely ignore the crowd, to just look straight ahead. Iris will have the same costume only with sleeves, make-up, a waxing and a large amount of lotions.
When we came out, the crowd went insane, knocking each other over to get a good view at us, but I ignored them, did nothing at all.
