Yugi and his grandpa walked through the massive, concrete hallway. The school had always felt like a high school rather than a middle school to Yugi. After all, the hallways were much wider than the ones at Domino high and the ceilings seemed to reach up to forever. It was almost like a castle but much shorter. He was going to miss being able to roam freely.
Banners, balloons, posters and other decorative items were ubiquitous. Everything looked well put together by the student council. Burgundy and dark green colors made the school look like it was Christmas time, but that just happened to be the school colors. They were met by the principal, Mr. Neilson. The middle aged man seemed to be eager for his summer vacation.
Mr. Neilson shook hands with Yugi. "Hello Yugi. Good to see you tonight. Congratulations! And you must be his grandfather. He took Solomon's hand and shook it in a friendly manner. Come, right this way gentlemen." He directed them to the entrance.
The two walked through the doors to the gym. It was packed. Many conversations were going at the same time. "Well I guess we better hurry and find some seats. Help me look Yugi." Solomon began scanning around the gym for anything unoccupied. Yugi looked around the gymnasium's rows of red and green bleachers.
After a few seconds he gestured to his grandpa. "There! Come on!" The two quickly took their seats more toward the front next to a man who looked a lot like Tristan, only with gray hair instead of brown. Looking over his grandfather's direction, Yugi spotted Tristan sitting next to him. He was wearing an outfit similar to his.
"Hey Tristan!...Tristan, hey over here!" Yugi tried to get his attention, but it was no use. It was too loud and he was too far away to be heard.
Yugi glanced over to the wooden podium. Mr. Neilson was making his way to the microphone. He cleared his throat before speaking.
"Good evening! It became silent immediately after. We're happy to have everyone come out tonight to celebrate a special occasion. We would also like to thank all the parents for their help and support to the students, without which, this would not be possible. *Round of applause* He waited until it was quiet to continue. Now...let's get to the main part of the program. May I have all of the graduates come down for their moment of fame?"
A loud rush erupted from the bleachers. Yugi soon followed, only after the crowd had died down. He looked around for his friends in the mass but couldn't see anyone. Someone tapped his shoulder hard. He turned around and came face to face with Souzouji. "Remember...what I told you." he sneered at him, and poked his chest. "Remember...what I told you." Yugi winced from the pain and put his hand over where it hurt. Souzouji left when he saw Tristan walking towards them.
"Hey Yugi!"
Yugi smiled at his friend. The pain seemed to disappear from his chest. "Hey Tristan. I tried to get your attention earlier but I think it was too loud for you to hear me. Me and my grandpa were sitting next to you guys in the stand."
"Oh, well at least I found you now. By the way are you alright, cause it looked like Souzouji was bullying you again."
"Yeah I'm okay. I just wish he didn't always have to pick on me."
"Alright let us begin the announcement of this year's graduates!" Principal Neilson began announcing names, alphabetically by last name. To save time, each graduate walked forward. Each smiled and waved at the crowd, followed by a small round of applause.
Next was Anzu, who then took her seat back in the crowd like the rest of the graduates. Yugi naturally watched her take her seat by her parents...and who was that? A boy about seventeen was sitting next to her and the two smiled.
"Um, Tristan? Do you know who that is over there, sitting next to Anzu"? He directed Tristan to where Anzu was.
"Hmm. I don't, but I have a guess. Maybe it's the person she said she was excited to meet on her Facebook."
