The Dance
Yugi's eyes were glued to where Anzu and her unnamed friend where sitting with her family. They were sitting mid-section towards the top of the bleachers and Yugi couldn't make out exactly what he looked like, other than he had naturally black hair pulled in a messy pony tail. She didn't seem to notice him and Tristan when she made her way back to her seat just minutes ago.
Yugi stepped out and waved to the crowd as his named was called. Despite the situation with Anzu, he felt overjoyed as the crowd cheered. His grandfather was smiling and waving back at him. He made his way back to his seat and watched the rest of the class graduate before him. Mr. Neilson reclaimed the microphone after another round of applause.
"Thank you again for all your help and support, he began. I would like to wish you all a happy and safe summer. The graduation dance will be held in the cafeteria and we hope to see you there. Have a good night everyone!" *Another round of applause*
Mr. Moto turned to face his grandson. "I think I'd better get goin. You go have some fun with your friends." He got up and started to leave.
Yugi called to him. "Grandpa, wait. I just wanted to say thank you for coming to support me tonight. And also for your offer on the car. I promise I'll work hard and earn that privilege." Solomon seemed touched by his sincere thank you. "You're welcome my boy, he said as he hugged him tightly. I'm proud of you. I expect you home no later than eleven."
When most of the crowd was gone, Yugi caught up with Tristan and then Joey. "Hey Joey! Congrats, man!
"Friendship headlock!" Joey smirked and wrapped his arm around Yugi's head and ruffled his hair.
"I'm just glad we're finally done with this place" Tristan stated. "I think high school will be better than this dump."
Joey at last let Yugi breathe. "For sure, bud." Joey high-fived him. "Do you think we'll have to wear fashion-challenged school uniforms there, too"? Joey replied, "I hope not, for once I'd like to wear what I want instead of what I don't. I mean the jackets here were alright, but seriously who picks dark blue for boys and pink shirts for girls when our school colors are clearly burgundy and green"? While the two were conversing, Yugi caught Anzu and the boy walk through the doors, most likely headed to the dance.
"Did you guys see that guy Anzu was with just barely"? Joey turned to look at him. "No, why?"
Tristan spoke up, "Actually, I did- earlier, while we were waiting our turn to graduate. I heard that he owns his own game shop, kinda like how Yugi's grandpa owns his. His name is Duke Devlin and he's the creator of dungeon dice monsters. I heard even Maximillion Pegasus was so impressed that wants to launch it all over America."
"Wow Tristan, are you like his stalker or something", asked the sarcastic blonde.
Ignoring Joey Yugi asked, "how'd you get all that information?" The more he knew, the better.
"It was on his Facebook fan page. I just kinda stumbled upon it," he replied honestly.
"Seems legit." Joey had a look that told him he wasn't buying it.
"Come on guys, we had better at least go get in line so we can get in to the dance!" Yugi's pulse had quickened upon hearing his own words.
By the time the trio had made their way up the hall to the cafeteria, the line was so long that it almost wasn't even worth it.
Tristan rolled his eyes. "Typical."
Joey was irritated. "What's with all these people? Pretty sure that I've never seen them before. Do they even go to our school"?
Yugi sighed but he wouldn't back down now. He needed to tell Anzu how he really felt about her. He was going to stay right there until he got in. No matter how long it would take.
At the start of the line was... Souzouji? "What's he doing here"...Yugi whispered worriedly. Yugi stepped to the side of the line to get a better look. Souzouji was checking for student IDs. Yugi turned to his friends. "You guys have your student IDs right"? They both pulled theirs from their pockets and flashed them. "Yup!"
The line continued to move swiftly until Souzouji barked, "Now wait just a minute!" Next in line were Anzu and Duke. Souzouji smiled at Anzu.
"Hello Anzu, you sure look nice in your dress..." He eyed her silver silk dress. The sequins gave a little glow when the light hit them just right. "Now, who's this," he looked at Duke. "This-(Anzu turned and intertwined hands with Duke) is Duke, my date."
"He doesn't even go here!" Joey yelled from the back of the line.
The three couldn't see Joey from where they were, but especially Anzu knew it was Joey. She just rolled her eyes.
"Mr. Wheeler does have a point. I can't let you in without a valid Domino Middle School ID."
Duke smiled a cool smile. "I think you'll be able to make an exception," he said handing Souzouji a twenty dollar bill. Souzouji bugged out. "I...yes... Go on in." He took the money greedily.
Yugi, Joey and Tristan soon were able to enter. Inside the cafeteria wasn't as elaborately decorated as the rest of the school, but it still looked nice. Red and green balloons were neatly placed around a large rectangular table. A large glass bowl filled with pink lemonade was the center piece. To the side were trays of many kinds of eclairs and red and green napkins. This was placed against wall right as you walked in. The three went to check it out.
"Not that I don't love pink lemonade, but I would'a thought they'd match it with everything else," Joey announced.
"Must you be such a critic Joey" Tristan asked.
Yugi only shrugged. " I think It looks great. Besides, pink lemonade is the best!" He poured himself a cup with the ladle.
"Alright everyone! You'll be glad you stuck around! Let's get this thing started, shall we?" The school hired a dj to play all the songs! "Blow" by Kesha started loudly and everyone there began cheering.
Yugi and his friends were already having the time of their lives and only a few songs had played. The next song was "Tongue Tied", followed by "Take me Out" and "The Great Escape." Yugi was smiling brightly when he noticed her in the distance. Anzu was by herself, just looking around. Yugi's heart rate went through the ceiling. "This might be the only time I can tell her!" He swallowed the lump in his throat and bravely walked up to Anzu.
He spoke slowly. "Hey Anzu." She looked at him and smiled, but just a little.
"Hi Yugi. How are you"?
He nervously replied, "I'm good, thanks, he put his hand behind his neck. You know, there's something I need to talk to you about..."
Sorry about the cliff hanger! Check back soon for the next part! :)
