The Dance Pt. 2

"What is it Yugi"? Anzu asked, curious. Neither of them saw Duke walking towards them.

"Ahh!" Anzu gasped in surprise as Duke slid his arm around her waist. She turned to look at her potential creeper. "Oh, it's just you, Anzu said relieved. "You scared me a little, she said giggling. What took you so long"?

Yugi wasn't surprised to see such glamorous clothing for being an owner of a hit game. He wore dark red leather blazer cut sharply on the edges. It was bedazzled with far too many rhinestones in Yugi's opinion. Maybe they were diamonds? A black dress vest was underneath completed with a cream colored shirt with ruffles. He looked dressed like what you would see at a Las Vegas tiger show.

"If you gotta go, you gotta go, he replied. He smiled big and announced, "Then I got a phone call from HQ; it turns out that Pegasus is going to launch my game sooner than I expected!"

"That's great honey!" Anzu flung her arms around his neck and hugged Duke. They took the others hand, looking into the others eyes. Yugi's cheeks turned red and he looked awkwardly at the ground. "I'm uh, gonna leave you two be. I'll see ya later Anzu..." He said before walking away with his head down. Anzu didn't seem to notice he left.

"Hey where'd you go, bud?" Joey inquired of him. He and Tristan were standing in front of the umbrella shaped snack kiosk.

In his most convincing tone Yugi replied, "I went to talk to Anzu to wish her a farewell before she leaves tomorrow." They only smiled and nodded at each other.

"What?" His cheeks began to turn red again.

"You know you can at least tell us the truth. It's kinda obvious that you have a crush on her", said Tristan teasingly.

Joey smiled. "Yeah. I mean we kinda always knew about it. It shows whenever you two hang out. Just the way that you look at her gives it away. We didn't wanna say anything at Subzero so we didn't."

"So what'd you tell her?" Tristan asked.

"Well I knew that tonight was going to be the last time I would see her, so I tried to tell her how I really felt. I didn't even say anything before I was interrupted when her boyfriend came out of nowhere and took her." His tone turned angry.

"Loving You" by Double You began playing. The three looked across the other side of the room where lots of couples as well as Duke and Anzu were. Yugi felt helpless watching the love of his life having the time of her life without him. She seemed very happy having Duke's hands on her waist.

Yugi seemed to be zoned out in his own world and didn't hear his friends conversing.

"We need to make sure that he tells her dude!"

Joey tossed his arms in the air. "Oh and you think I'm not thinking the same thing"?

It was only when he was dragged outside that Yugi snapped to reality. "Holy geez! It's cold out here! Yugi hugged himself, shivering. ...Why are we out here?" Tristan was the first to speak.

"Look man, we wanna help you out here. We're going to make sure that you talk to Anzu and you're gonna be successful in telling her the truth."

Joey put his arm around him. "We've got your back."

"Thanks, both of you...but how do you plan on making this work? They seem so inseparable...I don't know if I can."

"Just like Tristan said, we'll make sure of it." Yugi nodded, still doubtful. "I'm glad I have such good friends", he thought. His confidence began to build only to come crashing back down when he came face to face with the cafeteria doors. After a few encouragements from his friends did he finally push through the doors.

Inside the cafeteria, things were starting to wind down. The punch bowl he noticed was nearly empty, the table scattered with spare cups and napkins. The music was much quieter, and only a few people were still dancing. Everyone else was either sitting down or talking amongst themselves.

His stomach tied itself in a not when he finally spotted her. Anzu was still with Duke, still slow dancing. Yugi took a breath and walked up to the two.

"Hey Anzu, do you mind if I talk to you for a sec?" There wasn't a response from either. He asked again in a more commanding tone. "HEY, ANZU!" They were in the middle of making out when she sighed and turned to face him. "Alright, what is it?"

"Well if you don't mind, I want to talk to you outside."

She had a skeptical look. "This won't take very long. I'll be right back, babe." Yugi basically had to drag her outside. He took them to where they were now standing out where he was not ten minutes earlier.

"...So why did you want to talk to me? And outside"?

He looked down nervously before replying, "Well it's more like a confession. But first, what are you doing with him"?

"Well Duke's my boyfriend. I met him through my dad because he's going to work for him. He came over to help us move as a friend. Turns out, my dad knew him already before getting a job. We were loading boxes into the trailer when we started a casual conversation and it just hit off from there."

"Isn't he like ten years older than you? Than us? We're not even in high school!"

"Only six. He's very responsible and just an amazing guy. I'm not even concerned about the age difference because I just know that we're meant for each other."

He took everything in, each more painful than the last. After a few moments, Yugi became upset, trying not to show it. It was dark enough outside that it wasn't clearly visible, but that didn't stop Anzu from hearing his soft sobs.

"...Are you okay"? She sounded unconcerned.

It was dead silent other than Yugi's soft sobs. He was sitting with his head in his knees on the concrete bench. Finally he turned to face her, although not clearly seen his eyes were bright red under the dimly lit lamppost.

"Whenever we were together...was when I was the happiest. It didn't even matter what we were doing. It was only when you gave me the news that you were moving did I realize that I had feelings for you-and not just the friendship feelings. I really care about you, Anzu. Ever since we first met you were always a great friend to me. I can't just let you go without first telling you the truth and that's how I really feel about you. I love you, Anzu."

Anzu just stood there with a shocked expression. After a few silent moments she replied: "I...don't know what to say. I really didn't know you felt that way about me. There's something I should tell you too, and that's that I have felt the same way about you. To tell you the truth I wish you would have told me earlier because I have feelings for Duke now. I'm sorry Yugi."

He only nodded and whispered, "good bye." Yugi started to walk home before his friends caught up to him.

"Hey Yugi, at least let us walk you home."

"Where'd you guys come from? ...Where you eavesdropping?"

"Couldn't help it, Joey admitted. We just wanted to make sure you guys were safe."

"Thanks."

"By the way, I'm so sorry about what happened."

"It's... fine. There's nothing I can do. She's gone after tomorrow and probably happier where she's going."

Tristan chimed in, "I know that this won't sound very good, but just know that there are many other people out there. Especially since now that we're going to high school."

Yugi smiled a little. "Yeah you're right", thanks Tristan.

"Thanks again for walking with me home. I couldn't ask for anything more."

"Just know that we're here for you if you ever need anything." The three bid their farewells before he closed the front door.
