A/N: Hey all. Another chapter for you. ENJOY!
You never know how much you miss something until its right in front of you and you can't even touch it. That's how Katie felt as she spent the past three weeks from afar watching the brothers, making sure they stayed safe. She wanted to be able to just walk away, to forget them, to believe that they were nothing to her, but she couldn't. She couldn't even find it in herself, even after everything that happened. But she figured this was better. Getting tangled up in their lives was a mistake and practically one big manipulation by the angels. It was her own fault. She somehow fell in love with someone who would never love her back, who could never love her back. But those were part of the thoughts she promised herself that she would bury.
Now, Katie found herself outside yet another crummy motel, looking at yet another door. Sam and Dean were on the inside as she sat in a piece of crap car. She'd almost lost them a couple of towns over when she'd tried getting a room, and now figured it best if she just kept her eyes open. Her eyes traveled to the bracelet around her wrist, a ghost of a smile creeping to her lips.
"Don't say I never got you nothing"
The smile was gone, just as quickly as it came. You couldn't get her to stop smiling after he gave her that bracelet. It wasn't anything expensive, but this man to give her it, made it the most special thing in the world to her. It showed her that she actually meant enough for him to get her something, anything. Katie closed her eyes and let out a yawn.
"For a piece of crap, you're pretty comfortable" Katie muttered and before she knew it, she'd drifted off to sleep.
It wasn't until the next morning that the sound of someone tapping on her window jolt her awake. She turned to see an older man, who looked upset as he glared down to her.
"Hey!" he continued tapping on her window, even though she was now awake and looking right at him. "You cannot sleep here" he pointed to the street. "You have to go now, before I call the police"
"Alright" Katie says holding up her hands to the man. She turns and notices that the impala is gone. "What, no" she looks around but it's nowhere in sight. There was more tapping on her window.
"You have to go!" The man snapped and Katie turned back to him.
"Alright, chill out" Katie says starting the car's engine. She simply pulls out of the parking lot, and parks further down the street so she can regroup and try to figure out where the guys had disappeared to. She turns to the passenger side of the car which is covered with articles and notes she'd been writing about the case the guys had picked up. "Ok, so something must have happened, for you guys to have rushed out so early" she flipped on the radio, hoping there was something new about the case. But as she flicked through the stations, she heard nothing of any mysterious disappearances and nothing about black goo. "this is just great" she closed her eyes. This would be so much easier if her powers weren't crapping out on her. For the past couple of weeks, they've just been uncooperative so to speak. And she figured the angels were able to tap into them and find yet another way to make her life difficult. She figured it was another ploy for her to either give in to their demands, or to scare her away all together, but she wasn't giving in that easily. "Where would you guys go?" Katie had to rely on good old fashion detective skills. She'd spent time with Sam and Dean and knew how they operated and suddenly she opened her eyes. "You guys are looking into the last disappearance" she looked down to the papers in the seat and picked up an article. "Rachel Watts, daughter of Victor Watts own of Watts Hardware"
Katie nodded to herself before tossing aside the article and pulling off. She spotted the car instantly the moment she pulled onto the street, the only thing was there was no Sam and Dean.
"Ok" she scanned the area as she parked the car and stepped out. "Where are you guys?" Katie continued to scan the area when her eyes landed on a little girl who was bouncing a ball in the middle of the street. She looked around to see if anyone was looking for the kid, but no one seemed to be. "Hey!" Katie yelled looking over to the girl. "Hey, kid!" the girl seemed to ignore her as she continued bouncing her ball. It was then that Katie heard the sound of a speeding car. She turned to see the car coming right toward the little girl. Without hesitation Katie ran into the street to get the girl out of the way, but the moment she reached the middle, the child suddenly disappeared. Katie's eyes went wide as she saw the car coming toward her. She tried to move, but her feet seemed stuck. "Son of a—" before she could even get the words out she was being pulled out of the street and being slammed onto the ground. "Bitch!" She closed her eyes as she groaned in pain.
"Hey, are you alright?" she heard a voice say. A familiar voice. Katie opened her eyes and there looking down to her were Sam and Dean.
"Yeah" Katie said in unison with someone else. She turned to see a woman with blonde hair sitting up as well. Sam reached out a hand to Katie, while Dean held out a hand to the woman. "Thanks" Katie said looking over to the woman who simply nodded.
"No problem" the woman replied. "Why were you standing in the middle of the street?"
"I could've sworn—" Katie turned back to the street, but there was no kid there. Could she really have imagined it all? She shook her head before turning back to the woman. "I guess I wasn't thinking"
"Well, the next time you want to kill yourself, how about you do it from the comfort of your own home lady" Dean said and Katie turned to him in confusion. She watched as the woman slapped his arm at the comment. They knew each other.
"Lady?" Katie said looking over to Dean who barely even looked at her. "What?"
"Guys" The woman said and Katie turned back to her. She was talking to Sam and Dean. "We should probably get going, we still have that thing we have to do remember?" Dean and Sam nod.
"Right, c'mon" Dean says as they head back to the impala. "Unless Amy wants to save some orphan children from a burning building"
"Whatever jackass" Amy replied before looking over her shoulder to Katie. "Hey, take care" the woman waved before getting into the backseat of the impala. Katie stood there a bit in shock as she watched them all get into the car and just drive away. "Ok, what the hell just happened?" Katie looked around before shaking her head and heading back to her car before she lost them. Katie sat there for a moment trying to process what just happened. Sam and Dean had no idea who she was, or at least that's how it seemed. They didn't even look at her like they knew her. And then there was this Amy woman. "Where the hell did she come from?" Katie started the engine before pulling off after the impala.
Amy glanced behind the impala to see the car behind them and quirked an eyebrow.
"Hey, you guys see that car behind us?" Amy asks. Sam turns as Dean simply glances up to the mirror.
"What, the banana death trap?" Dean asks and Amy nods. "What about it?"
"Well I think it's following us" Amy says.
" Can you see who's driving?" Sam asked.
"No the windows are tinted , can't see anything" Amy said squinting her eyes. They look over to Dean as a smirk crosses his lips.
"Well lets see how fast that banana can go" Dean says glancing up to his mirror.
"Dean, just don't" Sam replies looking over to his brother.
"I hope you're not scared Sammy" Dean says looking over to his younger brother. "If I were you, I'd buckle up" Sam glared over to Dean, but quickly grabbed his seat belt and fastened it over him. Amy did the same. Dean gave one final glance up to his mirror before pressing down on the gas and zooming off leaving Katie in the dust.
"Damnit!" Katie snapped as she watched the impala getting further and further away. There was no way she was going to catch up. Not in this car anyways. "How the hell did they catch me?" she muttered to herself. She thought her stalking skills were better than that, but she was obviously wrong. Katie shook her head. She figured she go back to their room and hopefully there would be some answers there to help her figure out what was going on.
She pulled the car up on the street right in front of the motel. She didn't want set the owner off again. Scanning the area, Katie was relieved the imapala wasn't no where in sight.
"Ok, this is good" Katie muttered to herself as she got out of the car. She quickly made her way to their room. She didn't know how long they would be gone and figured it was best she'd got in and out before they did. When she reached their door she looked around a bit to make sure there were no looky loos in sight before she reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out her lock pick kit.
She figure with her powers being out of whack, she wouldn't chance blowing up the door. Katie entered the room to find the place normal. Well normal for Sam and Dean anyway. There were papers all over the place. She walked over and picked one up. They were articles about the case. She sat the paper down and continued searching for an explanation. She suddenly spotted a bag she knew didn't belong to either of the brothers.
"Ok, Amy" Katie said walking over and picking up the bag. "Let's find out who the hell you are" Katie began riffling through the woman's bag and stumbled upon a picture. She held up the picture and stared at it in even more confusion. It was a picture of Sam and Dean standing in front of the impala and there standing between them was Amy. The thing was Katie remembers this picture. She remembers because she was the one standing between Sam and Dean when it was taken. Katie looked up and shook her head. Nothing was making any sense. She even thought that she maybe still sleep, so she pinched herself. "Ouch!" it was a long shot, but it only verified her suspicions that something supernatural was going on. She heard the sound of an engine and walked over to peek out of the window to see the impala pulling into the parking lot. Katie quickly dropped the picture before heading for the door. She heard the sound of car doors closing and slipped out of the room. Turning, she walked down the walkway just as Dean, Sam and Amy were walking from the opposite direction.
Dean was the first to notice the door ajar before looking up just in time to see the woman looking over her shoulder to them. Their eyes met for a brief moment before he finally spoke.
"Hey!" Dean yelled and before they knew the woman was running, and they were running after her.
"Damnit!" Katie muttered as she ran trying to get away. Her eyes widen as she ran to where her car was parked, and the car was gone. "This can't be happening" Katie said looking around. She heard the sound of footsteps and ran before taking cover behind a dumpster.
"Where did she go?" Amy asked as they scanned the area for the woman.
"No idea" Dean said looking around as well. "It was that woman" Sam and Amy looked over to Dean. "The woman you pushed out of the road, I'm sure of it"
"Hey, isn't that the car" Sam said pointing to the small yellow car. Katie lifted her head, peaking from behind the dumpster and she spotted her car as well, and it was not where she'd left it. They turned and Katie quickly ducked back down behind the dumpster.
"So we have stalker" Dean says throwing up his hands in frustration. He turns to Amy and shakes his head. "See this is what you get for saving random people"
"Hey, this isn't my fault" Amy shot back. She ran her hand through her head. "We met her when were questioning the Watts, maybe were getting too close to something" she looked over to Sam. "What if she has something to do with these disappearances" Katie silently scoffed as she listened to the woman.
"Please you probably have something to do with the disappearances" Katie thought as she glared over to the woman. She looked between Sam and Dean as the nodded as if the idea was plausible.
"Makes sense" Dean said and Katie sighed. She was never going to get close to them if they thought she was some crazy person.
"C'mon Dean" Katie sighed as she listened to the man. "You know me" but the truth was, he didn't.
"Well whoever she is, she's long gone now" Sam replied as he looked around one final time. "She was in our room, we should see if she took anything" Dean and Amy nodded before they all made their way back to the room. As they walked in they noticed that nothing really looked out of place.
"My bag" Amy says picking up her open duffle and putting it on the bed. "It's been moved" Amy looked through her bag for anything missing and she did notice something. She looked around the room and spotted something on the floor. "There" she walked over and picked up the picture of the three of them. "This was in my bag and now it's not" Sam and Dean walk over to look at the picture.
"This doesn't make any sense" Dean says taking the picture from his hand. "Who breaks into a room to look at a picture?"
"It's the only thing that's out of place" Amy says with a shrug. "But you're right, it doesn't make any sense"
"There's only one way we're going to get answers" Dean says as Amy and Sam look over to him in confusion. "We're going to ask her"
"And how do you propose we do that?" Sam asks folding his arms over his chest. His brother always seemed to come up with some impossible ideas and he was interested in how they were going to go about this latest one.
"Easy" Dean says with a smile. "She's watching us, I mean who wants people asking question about missing people when you're trying to take them" Dean turned to look out the window. "She's got to keep an eye on us to see how close we're getting, which means she won't be too far" Dean takes a step his foot stepping on something. He looks down and spots a bracelet.
"What's that?" Amy asks as Dean squats down to pick it up. Sam and Amy watch as Dean seems to inspect the bracelet. "Dean?" He shakes his head before standing up straight.
"It's a bracelet" Dean says unable to take his eyes from the small trinket. There was something about the bracelet that seemed familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. "She must've dropped when she rushing out of here"
"Looks like crap" Amy says and Dean cuts his eyes to her and can't explain why a part of him feels offended.
"Yeah, well maybe it has sentimental value" He replies looking back to the bracelet. Amy and Sam share a look before they turn back to Dean who still seems a little too fascinated in the obviously cheap piece of jewelry.
"Dean?" Sam says and Dean looks over to him. "What's up?"
"Nothing" Dean replies shaking his head, but his eyes somehow land back on the necklace. "There's something familiar about this bracelet" Suddenly the room goes silent as Sam's eyes trail to the bracelet as well, he too feeling as if he's seen it before, but he can't remember when.
"You know what!" Amy says breaking the silence and both brother turn to her. "All this mystery crazy woman crap has gotten me hungry, any taker?"
"Uh, yeah, sure I could eat" Dean replies with a nod.
"Yeah, me too" Sam says and Amy nods.
"Ok, I'll go down to that burger joint down the street and get the usual" she replies as she head for the door. Amy looks back to see the brothers as they look back to the bracelet in Dean's hands and shakes her head before leaving.
Katie looks over her car trying to figure out how it moved all the way over her when she parked it further down the street.
"Ok, so someone moved move my car" Katie says thinking out loud. "Why?" she continues to look around the car, hoping that there's a clue somewhere that she hasn't caught yet. "Obviously someone wanted me to get caught" she closes her eyes and runs her hand over her face. She tired and exhauster and totally confused, a combination that Katie detests. "I don't understand" she sighs before slipping back into her car. She turns the ignition, but only gets a clicking sound in return. "No, no, my luck can not be this bad" she tries again, but the engine still doesn't start. Katie groans closing her eyes as she drops her head on to the stirring wheel. "What do I do?" it was the question of her life it seemed. Katie takes a deep breath
She suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and she lifted her head to see no one but the Amy woman staring back at her an amused smirk on her lips. "You have got to be kidding me" Katie stepped out of the car and stood there for a moment before walking over to the woman. "You know you're actually the person I wanted to see"
"Excuse me" Amy replied tilting her head to the side, that smirk never leaving her face. That's when Katie knew there was something not right with this woman.
"Who are you and where the hell did you come from?" Katie asked and this caused the woman to laugh.
"Aw, you sound like you care" Amy replied. "C'mon you're the one who left" she looked over to the motel room. "Left Sam and Dean to fend for themselves" her smile widened as turned back to Katie.
"Alright you—"
"Ok" Amy interrupted holding a hand. "Before this erupts into some juvenile name calling thing, I'm not evil and this isn't some plot to kill the brothers" Katie looked the woman over and figured as much. If she wasn't working the demon angle that meant she was working for the other guys.
"The angels" Katie sighed shaking her head.
"Well when they realized that you couldn't get the job done, they would find someone who could" Amy replied with a shrug.
"So let me get this straight, they erased their memories of me and replaced them with you?" Katie asked shaking her head. "Why so you could get them to play their parts or whatever?" Amy simply smirked and Katie took another step toward the woman wondering when her restraint would wear thin and she would finally hit this woman.
"C'mon Katie isn't this what you wanted?" Amy asked and Katie turned away from her. Is this what she wanted? "They've forgotten all about you and now you're free of them" Katie turned back to the woman. "This is your chance to finally get away and start anew" the woman lightly chuckled. "So go, go far away" she shook her head. "I mean they already think you're behind these disappearance and the next time they see you they'll probably put a bullet in you"
"You think so?" Katie asked and the woman simply chuckled again.
"I know so honey" Amy replied closing the distance between the witch. Katie really wish she didn't do that because the closer this woman is, the greater the chance she will leave this conversation with a black eye, a broken arm or even a limp. "I'm here now, me. I hunt with them, I eat with them, I laugh at Dean's awful jokes, and I listen to Sam tell me things about books I could care less about" a smile grew on her lips. "And the best part is that they're hot and I can see myself somewhere down the line—" before the woman could finish, the wind was knocked out of her by Katie's fist in her gut causing her to hunch over. Katie grabbed the woman's shoulder and bent down to her ear.
"Where did they find you, huh?" Katie asked. "I didn't know the angel's were recruiting from street corners now" she heard the woman chuckle as she pulled away finally standing straight and looking Katie right in the eyes.
"No, sweet heart they were looking for someone with a backbone" Amy replied. "Someone who doesn't get weak when a certain someone flashes those green eyes" Katie's eyes darken and that seemed to amuse the woman. "You didn't know that they knew" Amy shook her head. "The widdle witch fell in love and he broke her widdle heart"
"Ok, bitch. I can call you bitch can't I?" Katie mocked but shook her head. "Doesn't matter, it suits you, so this is how this works, if you hurt them—" Katie took a step toward Amy, who unconsciously stepped back. "Nothing and I mean not a thing, not even my widdle heart will stop me from beating the bitch out of you" Katie shook her head and tilted her head up to the sky. "And if you think I won't be able to fix this whole memory manipulation thing, think twice" she looked back over to Amy. "I don't know if you know who I am, but lack of backbone has never been a problem for me, I will beat you and I will bet then" she pointed to the sky. "Because I will not let you do this Sam and Dean"
"Bring it on" Amy replied folding her arms over her chest and Katie closed her eyes and sighed.
"Do you just—" Katie shook her head. "Whatever, we'll be seeing each other" Katie turned and began walking away.
"You should be careful!" Amy called after her and Katie stopped. "I mean you wouldn't want lose all sensation in your legs again" Katie turned back to the woman. "Yep that was me" Katie looked the woman up and down and shook her head.
"You're not a witch" Katie said. She would feel if this woman was a with, but she was getting nothing. Suddenly it hit her. "Wicca" Katie shook her head. "I don't get it, why save me?"
"Because I'm not evil" Amy replied. "I don't kill people, but if I were you I wouldn't push me"
"Well if I were you, I would kill myself" Katie said dryly before turning and walking away, past her car.
"Well if you were me, Dean and Sam would know who you are!" Amy called but Katie continued walking. The woman simply smiled before turning to go get that food.
The next day Sam and Dean got word of another disappearance, and they were no closer to figuring out who or what was behind it. All they had was a mysterious woman that broke into their motel room. They walked up to the house, slipping passed the caution tape to the detective that looked like he was in charge.
"Hey, I'm agent Wilson" Sam said flashing his badge before looking over to Dean. "And this is Agent Franks"
"What's the FBI doing here?" the detective asked looking between the brothers badges.
"that's actually classified" Dean answered and the detective quirked an eyebrow. "So, uh what do you got?" The detective looked between them skeptically before turning and heading to the next room, Sam and Dean following after him.
"Looks, like another missing person" the detective said walking into a bedroom, black goo splattered all over the place. "This time the victim is 23-year old Jamie Brue" he turns back to Sam and Dean. "Neighbors say they heard weird noises from the house and then there was a scream, and that's when we were called" he shook his head. "A couple of our guys came to check it out and when they came in, they saw all of this stuff" he turned back around. "Forensics still have no idea what this stuff even is"
"Mind if we take a look around?" Sam asks and the detective turns and gives them a shrug.
"Hey, these disappearances got us stumped, we still have a lot to comb through" The detective replies. "I think we're done here" he turns and heads for the door. "You guys take all the time you need" once he's gone Dean and Sam move in closer.
"So no one still has any clue what the hell this crap is?" Dean asks leaning in close to a glob of the stuff that was on the wall.
"Whatever it is, it's connect to whatever is taking these people" Sam replies looking at it too.
"Yeah, well the girl before wasn't exactly dripping with the stuff" Dean says looking over to his brother. For some reason he couldn't stop thinking about the woman he'd only gotten a glimpse of and he had no idea why.
"Well she may not be connected" Sam says looking over to his brother. "We're going to have to dig deeper into this"
"How about you and Amy go dig for whatever oozes this crap" Dean says grimacing as he notices that he's stepped in some of the goo. "I'm going to look around town for little Miss B&E"
"Dean, how are you going to find her?" Sam asked. "She could be anywhere, I mean she could've left town by now"
"Nah" Dean said shaking his head. "I don't think she's too far, she's somewhere in this town" he looks back over to his brother. "And I'm going to find her" he shakes his head. "And if she does have something to do with this, then I'm sure she's on the prowl for her next victim"
Katie knew that what was going on, was the work from the angels and she knew who the ring lead was. She walked until she found what she was looking for.
"I guess this is it" Katie muttered to herself as she looked to the church. She hesitated for a moment, going into churches still making her a bit nervous. She took a deep breath before walking into the building, sighing in relief when nothing happens. She scanned the church but there was no one in sight as she walked further down the aisle. When she was sure the coast was clear she looked up to the ceiling of the church. "Alright, I pray to the Gabriel to get his butt down here" she waited for a moment. "Now!" she snapped her voice echoing a bit.
"What do you want!" A voice snapped and Katie turned to see a very angry angel staring back at her. "I'm busy and do not have time for this"
"Ok, well let's get to the point, call off your puppy" Katie replied folding her arms over her chest. "Give Dean and Sam back their memories and—" she thought for a moment before shaking her and. "And I think that's it"
"Uh, no" Gabriel said and Katie glared over to him. "If that was all, then I'm going to go"
"Why not?" Katie asked angrily.
"Because you do not command me to do anything" Gabriel snapped. "Plus you wanted your out and I gave it to you" he turned pointing to the door. "Take it"
"That's bull!" Katie snapped taking a step closer to the angel. "This has nothing to do with you helping me and more about you helping yourself" she pokes him in the chest and he looks down to her finger. "When I wouldn't follow you blindly, you found someone who would and now you've got this woman you can get to manipulate my friends"
"It does not matter what I did or didn't do" Gabe growled angrily. "What has happened has, happened and there is nothing that you can do about it"
"I'm not sure about that" Katie replied. "You cannot control free will, and matters of the heart, I know that"
"And you're point?" Gabe asks with a shrug.
"My point is that in a year I've been there with them, I was their friend, something that they don't allow all that often, but they let me in despite who I am" Katie shook her head. "They care about me and that feeling—" she brings her eyes back to the angel. "You can't erase that feeling, so somehow, someway I will get them to remember"
"Good luck with that" Gabe says with a chuckle before disappearing.
"Oh bite me" Katie mutters before turning and head for the door. "There has to be a way to get them to remember" Katie's thoughts soon went into planning mode. She tried thinking of a way to try to get through the brothers, but she couldn't come up with an idea that didn't end with them trying to shoot her the moment they lay eyes on her. Katie stopped the moment she noticed someone was following her. Before she could even react there's a sharp pain to her head, before darkness.
"That had to hurt" Dean says looking down to the unconscious woman. He scans the area grateful that there isn't anyone around. Not wanting to press his luck anymore, Dean picks up Katie and tosses her over his shoulder before carrying her toward the impala.
The moment she heard voices, Katie knew she wasn't still at the church. It took a while but after a while she could clearly hear what they were saying, but she keeps her eyes closed.
"She doesn't look like a demon" she hears Sam says.
"Well looks came be deceiving" Amy says and Katie can't help but to clench her fist that she soon realizes are tied behind her back.
"Well she has just as many fake IDs as we have so, there's no telling who she really is" Sam replies looking over to the woman.
"Well how about we find out" Dean says moving in front of Katie and clapping his hands loudly in front of her face. "Rise and shine princess!" she almost smiles when she hears the nickname, but decides not to. She slowly opens her eyes, blinking a couple of times before meeting Dean's eyes.
"Crap" Katie says closing her eyes again and tossing her head back. The moment the light hit her eyes the pain in the back of her head makes its presence known. "It feels like an elephant has been dancing on my head"
"Yeah, sorry about that" Dean replies and Katie looks back over to him, to see the smirk on his lips. "We had to get you here somehow." She shakes her head before looking down to see that she is indeed tied to a chair. She looks back up to see Sam, Dean and Amy all watching her closely.
"Well I'm sure it's nothing a little aspirin can't cure" Katie says looking over to Dean and she notices the hint of amusement in his face.
"How about we cut to the chase" Dean says sliding a chair in front of Katie and sitting across from her. "How about you tell us where you're hiding these people?"
"I would if I were actually hiding anyone" Katie says looking him right in the eyes. He stares at her for a moment before looking over to Sam who shrugs. Dean turns back to Katie.
"Ok, and why should we believe you?" Dean asks and Katie looks over to him and smiles.
"You shouldn't" Katie replies and Dean looks back to her confused. "I mean I broke into your room, rifled through your things and everything thing inside of you tells you that you can't trust me" she sees the confusion in Dean's eyes and knows she's slowly getting through to him. "But you do and you don't know why"
"Who are you?" Sam asks and Katie turns to him.
"How about you tell me Sammy" Katie replies and she notices the same look of confusion in his eyes as well.
"I don't—" Sam tries to make sense of the familiarity he feels for the woman, but he can't. "Do we know you?" Katie opens her mouth but Amy steps forward.
"C'mon guys this is crazy" Amy snaps looking between Sam and Dean. "This woman is crazy and if you sit here and let her play you, more people are going to disappear" she turns to Katie a glare set tightly on her face. "Tell us where they are!" Katie chuckles turning away from the woman, when Amy suddenly slaps her hard across the face.
"You're going to regret that" Katie says licking the blood from the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, you're going to regret that"
"Well first things first" Dean says moving Amy out of the way. "Let's get this out of the way. Dean reaches into his pocket pulling out a flask. Katie knows what's coming as she closes her eyes and before she knows it, her face is splashed with holy water.
"Thank you for that" Katie says opening her eyes. "Really"
"Well she's not a demon" Sam says and they all turn to him for point out the obvious.
"Like I said, I'm not behind these disappearances, but—" she turns back to Dean. "I think I know who is"
"And you expect us to believe anything that comes out of your mouth?" Amy asks and Katie turns to her. She has to admit she's playing this role very well, but this Amy woman is really starting to get on her nerves. She looks over to Sam. "Please tell me you're not falling for this"
"C'mon Amy we're coming up with nothing, if she knows something we can at least hear her out" Sam says before looking over to Dean, whose eyes are still on the woman.
"Sam's right" Dean adds and Katie turns to him a small smile on her lips. "Tell us what you know"
"Sure, but how about you untie me" Katie asks and Dean chuckles.
"I'd said we'd listen, not that we trusted you" Dean says and Katie rolls her eyes. "There's something off about you, and until we figure out what, then you and those ropes are going to be best friends"
"Fine, that's fair, I guess" Katie says shrugging. "If I were you, I'd probably do the same thing" Amy looks between Dean and Katie and is not liking the looks these two are giving each other.
"Glad you understand" Amy says snapping the attention to her.
"Ok, so you know who's behind what's happening here" Sam says getting back on point. "Who is it?"
"Well I don't know who exactly is behind this, but I know how we can find out" Katie replies looking over to the youngest Winchester. Sam shares a look with Dean who shakes his head. "Look guys I know this may be hard to believe but I'm like you, a hunter, and I really think I can help you"
"We're listening" Dean says and Katie turns to him.
"There's this guy—" she shrugs. "Well he's sort of guy, look it doesn't matter, he knows things" she looks over to Sam. "I was going to go see him before your brother knocked me out"
"And who is this guy?" Sam asks.
"Well he's known for knowing things others don't" Katie replies turning back to Dean. "And there's something not right about this case, at this point there should be clues and connections, but there's nothing" she shakes her head. "He's the best bet"
"Where do we find Mr. All Knowing?" Dean asks and Katie chuckles.
"There's a bar" Katie replies and she notices the skepticism. "I know what you're thinking, but it's low key and that's how he operates, it's called the Filthy Boot, and it's right outside of town, off the highway"
"Let me get this straight, you want us to believe that there is this guy or not a guy who is just going to tell us what we need to know about these disappearances" Amy says shaking her head. "Do you think we're idiots?"
"Well not them" Katie says looking between Dean and Sam before looking back to the woman. "You, I'm getting strong idiot vibes" Dean snorts and Amy glares over to him and he simply holds up his hands.
"It can't hurt to check it out" Dean says looking over to Amy. "You and Sam go check this guy out, but if this has all been the run around" he turns back to Katie. "You won't be smiling princess" this time she can't help the smile, and that's when she knows she's close.
"What are you going to do?" Amy asks not liking the idea of leaving Dean alone with Katie.
"I think one of us should stay here to keep an eye on our guest" Dean says his eyes still on Katie. "Wouldn't want her to try and make a break for it."
"I would never" Katie says and he simply smirks. It's the looks that make Amy nervous. It makes her think that woman could possibly break through the spell.
"Alright" Sam says grabbing his jacket. "C'mon, Amy I guess we should hurry" Amy looks over to Sam before turning back to Dean.
"Are you sure?" Amy asks. "I mean, I could stay here and watch her" she hopes that he gets the hint, but he shakes his head.
"Ames, go" Dean replies. "I'll be fine, plus I doubt she'll be alive if I left you two here alone"
"Oh, I'd be a fine as a fiddle" Katie says before looking over to Amy. "It's Amy I'm not sure about" Amy takes a step toward Katie but Sam grabs her arm.
"Amy let it go" Sam says and Amy huffs out a puff of air before grabbing her jacket and following after Sam. She glances back to Katie and Dean, before looking up to the ceiling sending a silent message up above for Gabriel to keep an eye out.
"I thought they would never leave" Katie says and Dean turns back to her noticing the mischief in her eyes and can't explain why he's more curious than worried. "Now the fun can begin"
"Fun?" Dean asks with a quirk of his eyebrow. "What kind of fun?"
"I guess you're just going to have to find out" Katie replies and soon the two just sit in silence looking back at each other. Katie smirks ever so often and to Dean's own surprise he smirks back.
"So, Dean" Katie says. "How long have you known Amy?"
"Why?" Dean asks confused by the random question.
"No reason" Katie replies with a shrug as she turns away from his eyes. "Just thought a little conversation would be nice" Dean follows her eyes and notices that she's looking for something. "You wouldn't have found a bracelet by chance" she turns back to Dean. He looks at her for a moment before reaching into his pocket and pulling out the trinket.
"You mean this" Dean replies holding up the bracelet and Katie nods.
"Yeah" she says with a smile as she looks at the bracelet before meeting Dean's eyes. "I know it doesn't look like much, but it means a lot to me" she notices that Dean's eyes look back to the bracelet with a look of confusion.
"And why is that?" Dean asks.
"Well it was gift" Katie replies. "From a friend, a good friend and well—" she chuckles. "If you knew my friend you'd know how rare gift giving is with him" she looks back over to the bracelet. "Wanna hear the story behind it"
"Sure" Dean replies.
"Well it was my birthday, and no one said a word, like I wanted. I hate my birthday" she sighs. "They're just a reminder that I've spent another year doing the same thing I'll probably do for the next year of my life" she turns back to Dean. "Anyways, we'd just finished bagging this real brutal demon, I mean he was a tough bastard, and we were beat" she shakes her head. "I mean we were sitting in the middle of this of some old field, covered in mud and blood" she chuckles. "And he reaches into his pocket and pulls something out, and I can barely focus, but he hands it to me" she smiles widely. "And I'll never forget what he said, he looked me right in the eyes and said—"
"Don't say I never gave you nothing." Dean finishes and Katie looks over to him and smiles. There it is. With a twirl of her finger behind her back, she unties the ropes and let them fall to the floor.
"To be honest I was kind of speechless" Katie replies and Dean looks over to her. "But I took it and said thank you" she chuckled. "Then I told you that you needed a shower desperately because you smelled like dead ass"
"And then I said well you stink like a dead hobos ass" Dean replied and Katie laughs. But Dean simply sits there confused. "What the—" he jumps to his feet as he looks down to Katie and shakes his head. "What the hell is happening?"
"Look, Dean, I know right now nothing makes sense" Katie says as she watches the man pace back and forth. "Trust me, look someone has been messing around your head" she sighs. "You and Sam, but I was hoping that you would be able to fight through it" she stands to her feet. "And you have"
"Who did this?" Dean asked stopping to look over to Katie. She wasn't sure how much of this she should reveal to him. She still wasn't sure they were even ready for the whole angel thing, so she decided their lackey would do perfectly to be thrown under the bus.
"Dean, how long have known Amy?" Katie asks and she notices the sudden uncertainty in his eyes. Dean's eye closes as he thought of Amy, but they began conflicting with memories of Katie. Katie brought a hand to his arm and he stepped back.
"I'm—" she shook her head as she took a step back. Dean looked over to see the hurt in her eyes. "I'm sorry"
"Look, this is just a lot to take in" Dean replied. "I'm still trying to make sense of all of this"
"I know" Katie replies with an understanding nod. "I know this is unfair, and it's totally ridiculous" she took a deep breath. "Right now we have to take this and move forward"
"Sam" Dean said suddenly. "We have to warn him about Amy"
"It's not necessary" Katie replied and she could see the confusion on Dean's face. "She won't hurt Sam, she's not "Evil" she said using air quotes. "This whole thing had to do with getting me out of your life so she could move in"
"But why?" Dean asks. "What is this all about?"
"I don't—" Katie paused. She hated lying to him, even now when it was hard to even be in the same room with him because of feelings she wished she didn't have. "I don't know, but it doesn't matter, because we're fixing this"
"Could this have anything to do with these disappearing people?" Dean asked and Katie nodded.
"Yes and No" she replies before sighing. "Let me explain" Dean stood there and waited for her continue. "Ok, so there may not be some all-knowing guy out there, well there is, I just would never send anyone to see him" she shook her head. "Look the truth is I needed to get them out of here so I could get through to you"
"Well that's just great" Dean said throwing his hands up in frustration. "So we have nothing?"
"No we have something" Katie replied with a smile. "I've been looking into this case, and nothing adds up, there's no connection between the victims, there's nothing"
"Yeah, tell me something I don't know" Dean says.
"Your mysterious case and your mysterious new hunting buddy showed up at the exact same time" Katie says and Dean finally realizes what she's getting at. "Yeah, your friend Amy got some spainin to do"
The moment Sam and Amy realized that they were sent on a wild goose chase they quickly made their way back to the motel. The fact that Dean wasn't answering his phone wasn't helping them from worrying even if it was for totally different reasons. The moment they pulled in front of the building they both hopped out of the car.
"I told you that this was a trick!" Amy snapped as she stalked toward the room. "But did you listen, no, she played you"
"Listen, just calm down" Sam replied as they finally got to the door. She was right, they played into this woman's hands, but for the life of him, Sam couldn't help but to not write her off just yet. "There's got to be some sort of explanation for this"
"Yeah, you'll get your explanation after I'm finished with her" Amy said already reaching for the door. "Because when I see her—" she opened the door and was surprised at what she saw. The woman she'd left tied to a chair, was standing , and smiling. Amy lifted her eyes to the ceiling waiting for something to happen, for them to stop this, but nothing happened. Katie followed the woman's eyes and shook her head.
"There you two are" Katie says and Amy's eyes shoot right over to her. "How was the drive?" the tone in her voice must have set something off in Amy, because she was storming over.
"How about I wipe that smirk off your face" Amy says, but is stopped in her tracks as Dean moves in front of Katie.
"How about you stop right there" Dean replies reaching behind him and aiming his gun to the woman. Amy closes her eyes and shakes her head.
"Dean, what—" she opens her eyes and look up to his. She couldn't believe that Katie actually broke their spell. She broke the angels' spell. It was impossible, and Amy refused to believe it. "Dean what are you doing?"
"Dean" Sam says finally tired of being the only one in the room totally confused. "What's going on?"
"Should I tell him Amy?" Dean asks glaring over to the woman. "Or do you want the honor" Amy shook her head.
"I don't know what you're talking about" Amy says before looking over to Katie. "This is you, you—" she turns back to Dean. "Dean, do not let her poison your mind against me" she pleaded, but the look in his eyes told her he wasn't buying it. "C'mon Dean, you know me"
"No he doesn't" Katie said stepping beside Dean. "None of us know who you are, it's over" Amy glared over to Katie before turning to Sam. He was her last hope.
"Sam, I don't know what has happened since we've been gone, but you have to believe me" Amy said taking a step toward the youngest Winchester. "I am Amy, I'm your friend, that is the truth" Sam looked into the woman's convincing eyes before looking over to his brother and Katie.
"No, the truth is I'm your friend Sam" Katie says with a small smile. "And you're strong and I know you can fight through this just like Dean did"
"Just focus Sammy, really focus" Dean says and Sam turns to his brother. "The more you think about it, the more things start to make sense" Sam looks back over to Amy for a moment before his eyes shift back to Katie. He closes his eyes pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Sam—" Amy says placing a hand on his arm, but to her dismay he steps away from her.
"Do not touch me" Sam says opening his eyes and looking down to the woman. "Who are you?"
"Sam, I'm—"
"No" Sam interrupts taking a menacing step toward her with a look in his eyes that seemed to make her step back. "Who are you?" She looks up to him before turning to Dean who stands there awaiting her answer and then she cut her eyes to Katie.
"You think you're so smart, don't you?" Amy snapped.
"Well, smarter than you Amy" Katie replies and Amy takes a step toward her, but stops when she notices bother brother standing a bit straighter. "I told you that they're stronger than you know, so know that, make sure whoever sent you here knows that" Amy shook her head before grabbing her bag and heading for the door. "Wait!" Amy stopped in her tracks and turned back around. "You really think that's how this all ends, you just walking out that door" Katie placed her hands on her hips and took a step forward. "Think again" Amy tossed her bag on the floor.
"Oh, you have no idea how long I've waited for this" Amy says loosening her shoulders and Katie chuckles.
"I'm not fighting you Amy" Katie says. "For one I have control issues so I'm pretty sure I'd just kill you and two I have a splitting headache"
"Then what are you talking about?" Amy asks.
"It's time for you to undo the rest of it" Katie says looking the woman in the eyes. Amy turns away from her.
"What are you talking about?" Sam asks and Katie turns to him.
"Your case, this tough case I'm sure somehow she would solve was all invented by dear old Amy here" Katie says turning back to the woman. "She is Wiccan and a powerful one I have to admit, but this spell you have that's making these people disappear, it's time for you to reverse it and end this" Amy turns back to Katie.
"And what if I don't?" Amy smirks cocking her head to the side. "I have very powerful friend, but you already know that"
"Amy the fact that these friends haven't swooped in by now to save you should show you how dispensable you really are" Katie says taking another step toward the woman. "Reverse the spell" her voice went low, the look in her eyes sent a chill down Amy back.
"You know what fine" Amy says before lifting a hand. "A spell was cast with baneful will…
A wicked web was wrongly spun…I take away the harm and ill…I now undo what has been done" Amy dropped her hand and looked back to Katie. "Now can I go?"
"Not quite yet" Katie says before placing her hands on the sides of Amy's face. The moment she did the woman began trying to pull away. "It's fine" she says stopping Sam and Dean from going to her. "It's time Amy know that her actions have consequences"This witch's power cannot fight… the lure of evil's magic might…before misuse lands her in hell… remove the powers of Amy Belle"
The brother's watch with both shock and confusion as a small ball of light flows out of Amy to the ceiling before it's just gone. Katie releases the woman and watches her stumble back a bit as she looks down to her hand.
"What did—" Amy lifts her head to Katie. "What did you do!"
"I'm saving you Amy" Katie replies. "Because whether you know it or not, you're worth saving" she shook her head. "I have no idea what your life has been like, but you were given the chance at power, a power that if not careful can destroy you" Katie sighed. "Everything happens for a reason, you were given these powers for a reason, and this—" she gestures to the room. "This isn't it, you need to find the real reason and when you did, your power will be returned to you" Amy looks at her for a moment, the look on her face turning back to a scowl.
"I want you to know that this isn't over" Amy says reaching down to pick up her bag. She looked between Sam and Dean before turning and heading out the door.
Katie just stood there for a moment before turning back to the brothers who were both watching her as if waiting for her to say something.
"Interesting day, huh?" she says with a shrug.
"Understatement princess" Dean says shaking his head.
"Oh, I almost forgot" Katie says before walking over to Dean. He looked at her confused before she gave him a whack on the head. "That's for knocking me out, you jackass!"
"Did I tell you how good it is to have you back?" Dean asks and Katie simply shook her head.
"Are you?" Sam asks and Katie turned back to him. "Are you back?" Katie sighed running a hand through her hair. Soon life… their life was back and that meant dealing with feelings she was able to ignore for a while, but now—she looked over to Dean before turning back to Sam—now here she was having to face a tough decision. Was she back? "Katie?" Katie snapped back to reality. He'd asked her a question and now they were waiting for an answer.
"I—" she turned her back toward them closing her eyes hoping the answers would just appear. "I don't—" she turned back to them and they looked at her with a look she could only describe as hope. They needed her and if she was honest with herself then she would say that she needed them too. "I'm sorry" that seemed to confuse both brothers. "For leaving the way I did, I mean you were trying to protect me, even if it was stupid and reckless and totally unnecessary" she looked over to Dean. "But I'm going to assume you did it because you care and so I'm sorry, I just—" she shook her head before looking over to Sam who looked as if he knew what she wanted to really say, but couldn't. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're here and we were brought together for a reason and if you will have me I would like to join back up with team Katie"
"We never agreed on that name" Sam said and Katie smiled over to him. They both turned to Dean who looked over to her as if her was internally debating whether or not this was even a good idea.
"Dean, you just heard me apologize to you, that alone has to mean something" Katie says and Dean folds his arms over his chest, still not saying a word.
"C'mon Dean" Sam says looking over to his brother. Dean glances over to Sam before turning back to Katie. "Stop being an ass"
"Dean, seriously look, I will totally understand if this time apart has made you rethink—" She stopped when Dean reached into his pocket and pulled out her bracelet. He looked down to it in his hand before holding it out to her. Katie walks over and takes the bracelet from his hand, ignoring the butterflies that flutter in her stomach when their hands touch. Dean clears his throat and drops his hand once she's taken the bracelet.
"What are you two nerds waiting for?" Dean says before moving passed them to grab his things. "I'm looking to get the hell out of here." Katie smiled before looking down to the bracelet in her hands.
"I'll go get my things" Katie says looking over to Dean who nods before she leaves.
Dean looks over to Sam who is looking back over to him smiling.
"What?" Dean asks.
"Nothing, it's just—" Sam shakes his head. "This is good, right?" Dean nods before looking back down to his bag and Sam could see the hint of a smile on his brother's face.
"Yeah, this is good" Dean replies as he continues packing up his bag. Katie later spots Dean packing his things in the trunk, but there's no Sam in sight.
"Where's Sam?" Katie asks and Dean looks over to her.
"He's getting the rest of his things" Dean replies taking her things from her hands and placing them in the trunk. "You know, you must have really missed us if you came back to help us out" he looks over to Katie who rolls her eyes. "Admit it, you missed us?" she turns back to him and smiles and for a moment he forgets to breathe.
"You know what?" Katie says taking a step toward Dean. "Yeah, I did. Did you miss me?" Dean looks down to her for moment.
"Not really" Dean replies with a shrug. "The car was nice and quiet, I could play my music without any complaints from Sam, life was good for a while" Katie shook her head before playfully punching him in the shoulder. "Maybe there were one or two times I missed your annoying voice"
"I knew it" Katie replied with a chuckle.
Sam stepped out the room, closing the door behind him before stopping looking over to his brother and Katie as they laughed. He still couldn't understand why they couldn't see what was right in front of them. He shook his head, because he knew the longer they fought what they were feeling, the worse the tension would get and he really wasn't looking forward to that at all. Sam shook his head before walking over.
"Alright, I'm all set" Sam says tossing his bag in the trunk before Dean finally shuts it closed. "Everyone ready to go?"
"Almost" Dean says before turning to Katie. "Here" he tosses her something and she quickly catches it. She looks down to her hand to see the keys to the impala. She looks over to him confused.
"Wait, are you really letting me drive?" Katie asks and even Sam in shocked.
"Just, c'mon before I change my mind" Dean says moving to the passenger side. Sam and Katie share a look, before Sam too moves to get into the car. Katie stands there looking down to the keys in her hand. This was her decision and she was going to have to live with the consequences. And that meant putting aside her feelings. Sam and Dean were still targets and with her gone, they really were vulnerable, especially to the angels. She needed to be here.
Katie was startled by the honking of the horn and looked up to see Dean's head poking out the window.
"Will you get the lead out!" Dean snapped. Katie shook her head before walking over and getting into the driver's side of the impala. "Ok, princess, so you do know how to drive, don't you?" Katie turned to him giving him a look as if that was a stupid question. "Hey, I need to ask these things before I give you the reigns of my baby"
"Dean, of course I know how to drive" Katie says as she sticks the key into the ignition and starts the engine. She looks down to her feet. "Just a reminder though, which one makes the car stop and which makes it go?" she looks over to Dean who doesn't look amused.
"That's it, get out of the seat" Dean says and Katie laughs.
"I'm kidding" Katie replies. "Calm down, your baby is in good hands, I've been driving since I learned how to walk" Dean mutters something under his breath about women drivers and Katie slaps his arm. "Dean shut up and enjoy the ride" he looks at her for a moment before shaking his head. "Oh, and as I'm sure you are aware, I am now the drive, and you know what that means, don't you?" She head Sam laughing from the backseat. Katie simply turned on the radio, when suddenly a Brittney Spears song played. She wasn't a fan, but knew that it would drive Dean crazy. Her assumption was right when she heard him groan. "Hey, I pick the music and you shut your pie hole"
"Kill me Sam" Dean says closing his eyes and dropping his head back on the seat.
"Wait until this song is over" Katie replies laughing as she shifts the car into drive and pulls off.
A/N: Hope you liked it!
