Chapter 7

Lily Jones

What I first noticed about the dorm of Cara Monique is that it was messy.

"I think the staff forgot to pay the cleaning lady." I whispered to Thanatos.

He rolled his eyes. "As if you clean your room."

"Well, at least I'm nice to the skeletons who clean my room." I whispered back.

"Whatever." Thanatos grimly said, "This room is definitely messy."

"I got you the first time, Thanatos."

"Uh-huh."

Buzz. Buzz.

"Looks like Cara's on the verge of death."

"We have to save her."

"Do I look like I don't know that? Should we get Nico?"

"Not yet."

"P-Perseus..." Cara whispered.

I ran to her and knelt down in front of her four-poster bed.

"...s-seven..."

"Do you know what she's saying?" I asked Thanatos.

"Nope. But I have an idea."

"Really? What?"

"I'm not telling. It's top secret."

I snorted, "So much for volunteering to help me."

"It's true. You can't defy the laws of nature."

"You mean the laws of the gods."

"Or that."

"Call Nico." I ordered, "It's the least you can do. He may be able to still lengthen her life."

"You amaze me with your bossiness."

Yet he left.

I grabbed Cara's wrist. She was beginning to pale. Hermes storied me that she can see things. She was a demigod seer. Or something like that, I don't know. But what I do know that she looked like she was going to strangle me to death.

"...seven..."

"It's okay, it's okay,"

I remembered that Hermes told me to record all of what she's saying. I pulled out a recorder and waited silently for Thanatos to come back with Nico. Maybe Nico knows something we don't know.

Hermione Granger

That pesky teenage boy waited for me after class.

"Hermione," he greeted.

"Nico." I acknowledged him.

He followed me to the Great Hall. I can't help thinking that he needed something from me. But what he needed, I do not know. I was clueless about boys, that was true. But I know what they want and when they need it.

"The Lake's pretty nice." Nico commented.

I turned to him and scowled, "What do you need from me, di Angelo?"

He looked at me with a surprised look on his face. He responded, "What do you mean?"

"Why are you following me?"

"I don't know the directions to the Great Hall?"

I rolled my eyes, "Come off it, Nico. I know you memorized it. Why do you want to escort me?"

"Because I want to."

"What do you mean, you want to?!"

"It's a form of kindness!"

"Please. You only followed me to ask me for something you can't get."

"Well, that's true, but-!"

"Ha! You men just love to bully girls just because they're weak!"

"I don't-!"

"You're just gonna play with me, aren't you?!"

"Hermione-!"

"You boy are so frustrating! I can't- I don't know what to do with you lot!"

"What is your problem? I just wanted to escort you! Is that a bad idea?"

"Why then?" I fumed.

"Why what?" He was confused.

"Why do you want to do that?"

"Well, because..."

"Can't even answer properly." I grumbled.

He held my shoulders. "Because I can't stop thinking about you."

I stared into his eyes. He looked so innocent, so truthful. Was it true? Whatever he said? I was blushing pure madness and he just looked at me with some dignified expression. The argument was intense that we were so close to each other and I can feel his breathing against my skin. It was heaven for me, but I stood strong.

I snorted, "You and I both know that's not true."

But it was true. I felt the same way. I couldn't stop thinking about him. The way he acts, the way he speaks, the way he eats... I sound like a loony stalker, but it was true. At least, for me.

"The kiss." We both said simultaneously.

Was his eyes always that deep shade of brown?

I don't know how it happened, but the next thing I know, we were kissing each other. It felt good and I didn't even felt ashamed how I was making out with him with a bunch of people watching. As long as I was in his arms... that mattered only to me.

"I-I need you, Granger..." Nico panted after the kiss.

I don't know if he meant that he wanted me in his life or he needed me in some errand he couldn't do all by himself.

But I replied, "I do, too."

He kissed my neck softly, and I was tempted to let him do more. But I know my limits and restrictions.

The thought of me and Ron together vanished instantly.

All I could comprehend was that I needed Nico.

Whatever he is.

Lily Jones

I looked up at Thanatos.

He shrugged, "Went snogging with another girl."

"Ugh. Anyway, we can't do anything about it now. We have to record what she's saying."

I turned on the old recorder.

"Where did you even get that anyway?" Thanatos asked.

"Where everyone steals shit." I replied.

"...t-the girl..." Cara started.

"Continue."

"S-she shall fall deep. Tartarus. With boy... they shall help themselves. Gods... will f-fail children. N-nothing can s-stop them form rising. You n-need to stop the main enemy... lucky number is... s-seven."

"What is she talking about?" Thanatos asked.

"Sshhh!"

Cara repeated seven and 'the gods will fail their children'. I was worried about her. I continued rubbing her hand as if she was my grandma and it was her time already. (The last part was true, at least.)

She stared at me and gripped my wrist, "B-brother... danger... don't save him..."

She fell limp.

"Time's up." Thanatos announced and collected her soul. Cara glowed blue and then faded again. I sighed and let go of my grip on her. Did she mean Nico? My brother was in danger? Of what, though? Love?

"Don't think about it." Thanatos advised.

"What do you mean?"

"You'll understand one day."

"You know what she's talking about?"

"Unfortunately, yes."

"Tell me!"

"No. Too risky."

"Ugh... let's go. I have to speak to Hermes."

"Hn."

Together, we vanished into the darkness.
