About Konoha Gakuen
So, I got an ask about their school system and I replied to them, but I wanted to clarify with everyone else who's reading too.
So, in their academy they start in Spring and end in March, just like in Japan. They also have the same holiday times as Japan does (if you want to know exactly when their holidays start, search it up on google). In Konoha Gakuen, school starts at 8AM till 2:45pm. Everyone is in the same class as each other for every subject like Japan, unlike in north america where highschool requires you to switch classes and be with new people. They only people that switch classrooms are the teachers. I'm basing their schedule on how it's like in Canada (or at least in my school). They have 5 courses per term, one being lunch, and every period is an hour and twenty minutes. They get 5 minutes in between periods to get ready for the next. Each class in Konoha Gakuen has a different schedule.
Class 2-A (Hinata's class) has:
Period A - Homeroom then English - Kakashi
Period B - History - Iruka
Period C - Lunch
Period D - Math - Asuma
Period E - Gym - Gai
I will draw an outline of the whole school area and post it on my tumblr in the near future. I'll tell you when.
Kay that is all (I hope I'm not missing anything, I feel like I am) Any questions? PM me or review~
Time to actually begin the chapter...
It was already second period, a half an hour till lunch. Hyuga Hinata stared out the window in worry. Her thoughts were occupied with the eccentric Namikaze instead of the lesson Iruka was teaching. Naruto didn't show himself that morning while the Uchiha did. The seat in front of her was empty, waiting for its occupant.
Hinata had just recently met him, but she didn't know why she kept on thinking about Naruto. It was weird of her to think about a male that she met just two days ago. When she was about to fall asleep last night, an embarrassing scene passed through her head. Naruto had most likely seen her panties that day and was probably laughing at her for having such childish underwear. Today, his face reappeared in her thoughts but it was a different matter.
What's taking him so long? Did he sleep in? Or is he skipping? Why is he absent today? He looked fine yesterday. Her teeth bit her bottom lip unconsciously. Did something happen? No, I'm sure he's just late from sleeping in.
Sakura looked around the room idly; she was bored. The history lesson Iruka was teaching was a recap from yesterday's lesson. It was a simple lesson that she had already memorized. While Iruka was talking about how Konoha was founded, she wrote down a checklist of what to bring for Monday's trip. But she was done now. She glanced at Hinata beside her and noticed the worried expression her friend wore. What was she fretting about this time? Hinata's gaze looked from the desk in front of her to the newly replaced window.
Sakura grinned mischievously. She knew what was on the mind of Hyuga Hinata. So the knucklehead did make an impact on her life. Sakura held in her chuckle. Hinata wasn't the type to think about guys. She was practically scared of men. Sakura thought of the many confessions the raven-haired girl received just in the first month she arrived. At the first few confessions, her poor heart couldn't take it and she fainted. The answer was loud and clear to the boys that she didn't want a relationship with them. She would twiddle her fingers and stutter while trying to decline their confessions. Then she would come back to Sakura and Ino with sweat on her forehead and hands, but with a relieved smile that said that she was happy to get the confession over with. Talking to people, especially men was not what she felt comfortable with and Sakura seeing this side of Hinata, made her relieved to know that Hinata was warming up to the opposite gender. Hinata was attracted with the newly acquainted blond, Sakura knew and she would help set the two up secretly in the near future.
Sakura turned to the other person sitting on her right. Once again, Sasuke was zoning out of class. His head rested on a blank page of his notebook while he took another nap. His chest rose and fell as he breathed soundlessly. She peered down at him with a smile. She was captivated by how innocent he looked. His black hair was tousled here and there as his cheek was pressed against the surface beneath. She noticed how long his eyelashes were and how smooth his fair skin looked.
Feeling the gaze of another, Sasuke opened one of his eyes giving Sakura a surprised. She quickly looked away from his gaze, embarrassed. He was awake the whole time and just caught her staring at him. Sasuke yawned then took a big stretch. Sakura watched him from the corner of her eye. He didn't go back to sleep, instead, the Uchiha got out a pencil and started writing something on the notebook.
She took a peek at what he wrote and noticed that it was directed to her.
"Did you take a good look at my handsome face?" He rested his head on his hand, tilting it while giving a smirk.
Sakura tried to hold down her blush by scoffing. "You think too highly of yourself." She wrote on her own notebook. She waited for Sasuke's reply.
"So you don't think I'm handsome?"
She grinned. "Cocky bastard. You were awake the whole time, weren't you?"
A quick snort and a wider smile showed that he was amused at her answer. Her heart skipped a beat; something she said made him laugh. She couldn't help but smile back.
"Maybe." He scribbled down. "You cut your hair."
"Yeah, had no choice but to, the gum was stuck in there real tight."
"It suits you." Sasuke quickly put his face back down on the desk. He covered it with his arms to hide his embarrassment. He glanced at Sakura with one eye to watch her expression.
She grew tomato deep red at his sudden remark. It was new for her to hear him complement someone – her especially. Maybe, he li—no Sakura, it was just a compliment. It's nothing to get worked up over of. It's just a friendly gesture between friends. She reassured herself but there was still a slight hope lingering in her mind that maybe he did have feelings for her. It was rare to hear such words from the mouth of this Uchiha.
The few minutes that passed after that were quiet. Not knowing what else to say, Sakura looked around the room for something to say to continue their conversation. It had been a while since she had a long, nice chat with him and she didn't want it to end right there. Her emerald eyes rested on Hinata for a few seconds then went back to her notebook. Knowing what to ask the Uchiha, she wrote down her question. "What happened to Naruto? Hinata-chan is worried."
Sasuke looked at the Hyuga heiress noticing that she was fidgeting in her chair. "I locked him outside again. He probably slept in or something."
"Again? What the hell Sasuke." She glanced at the clock above the door. "But he wouldn't sleep in for this long, it's already 11."
Sasuke shrugged. Whatever the Dobe was doing wasn't his concern.
Just right when they were talking about him, the sliding door opened with a thud as it slammed against the wooden door frame. A cheerful Naruto walked in the class, his smile wider than usual.
Hinata's lavender eyes brightened at the sight of him. Her worries were for naught; he was fine, brimming with happiness as he stormed into the once quiet room.
Iruka was angrily smiling. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and said, "Naruto-kun, it's nice to see you made it to class."
Not noticing his teacher's sarcasm, Naruto agreed. "Ne-ne, Iruka-sensei, I have better news." He paused, trying to make everyone in the room intrigued about what he was about to say. "Sai, come in here!" He called out to someone in the hallway.
A pale teen walked into the room with a smile. Sakura rubbed her eyes in case she was just imagining things.
Hinata looked at Sakura's gapping expression and then to the man standing in front of the class with their school's uniform on. Who was he? He seemed familiar to her, but she couldn't place her tongue on where she saw him.
"Shit, Ino is going to be super excited when she sees him." Sakura said, her desk partners being the only ones to hear her. What was the idol doing in their school wearing their uniform?
Every male in the class, save for Sasuke, got out of their desks to greet their old friend. Instead of getting up and greeting Sai, Sasuke sat at his desk with interest in his eyes. He was happy that Sai returned but his greetings would have to wait. His classmates were huddled around the idol; it would be fruitless if he went up. They all shot out questions at him who tried his best to answer them.
Iruka was surprised to see Sai back in the class but he frowned as his class grew rowdier. He got the textbook that he was holding before one of his noisy students entered, and slammed it against his desk three times. "Settle down guys. It's nice to have you back Sai-kun, but please continue this during lunch." His voice changed from a friendly tone to annoyance. "Boys, go back to your seats and read page ninety in your text book. While I see Naruto-kun in the hall, Sai-kun you can sit in his spot. Naruto-kun, follow me."
Naruto's cheerful attitude fell as he knew what was in store for his abrupt behaviour. He followed his teacher to the hallway only to get a mouthful of his lecture on disturbing the class once again. It was the second time that morning that Naruto was being yelled at. He kept on yapping about being late for class, how disrespectful it was, and how he shouldn't do it again. After a relentless five minutes of scolding, Iruka decided that it was enough. He sighed and left Naruto alone in the halls. His punishment was to stand while raising his arms, palms up, until lunch started and that was about twenty minutes from then. Sure, it sounded easy at first, but as the clock ticked his arms grew sorer by the minute.
The class watched him through the glass windows. They're snickering stopped when their teacher warned them that they'd be the ones out there too if they continued to disobey. Knowing that their teacher was serious, they gulped and dived into their textbooks. The room was once again quiet.
Naruto grew more agitated. His arms were killing him, wanting to put them down but catching Iruka's glare. They started trembling after ten minutes. Naruto frowned. There was a tickling sensation on his back and it wouldn't go away. Great, I can't even scratch my back. Iruka's back never left the board making it hard for Naruto to sneak an itch. If Iruka didn't turn around then he had no choice but to—
Hinata raised her head from the textbook Iruka instructed them to read just after he re-entered the classroom. A laugh erupted from her throat turning all eyes on her. Her laugh was pleasant to the ears; a sound of soft bells that rarely rang.
Sakura bewildered from her friend's abrupt giggles, looked to the source of it. She joined in once she saw what Naruto was doing out the door. Their knuckle head was rubbing his back against the door frame that belonged to the classroom across from them. Luckily, no one was vacant in that room or else they'd be forced to see an unappealing sight.
"Wahh! The flower and the butterfly are laughing!" Some male had stated the obvious. Someone in their class had made up the nicknames and since then, Sakura was known as the flower and Hinata being the butterfly. Sooner or later, the names would spread throughout the school and nothing would be able to stop it.
They looked towards the source at their laughter, only to also be accompanying their little fit. Still going at it, Naruto moved his back against the wooden frame. His arms were still raised, making him look like a blissful seaweed swaying in the waters. Closed eyes and a foolish grin showed that he was enjoying the sensation on his back.
"Oh ye-yeaahhhh, that's the spot baby. A little to the left now...ahhhhh." He moaned. His eyes were closed making him unable to see who was walking towards him. The relieved feeling of scratching an itch made him not realize that someone was talking to him.
"Naruto."
"Ahhh, this is the feeling."
"Naruto!"
A tap on his shoulder woke him up from his paradise. He flinched once he saw the disturbed expression from the lady before him.
"You can't get a girlfriend so you're making out with this piece of wood? And doing it in broad day light for all your friends to see." The principal frowned and shook her head. "What a sad life you lead, Naruto."
Naruto looked from the blonde woman to his classmates, embarrassment rising to his face once he saw their red faces from laughing too hard. "Oi, Baa-chan, don't make me sound like a pitiful loner! And there was this bad itch and- and I couldn't itch it because Iruka-sensei told me I had to do this," He showed Tsunade by raising his arms up slightly. "So, I used my brains and scratched it with the door."
Tsunade sighed. "Well your brains made you look like a fool." She brushed one of her blonde pigtails off her shoulder, swinging it to the back of her head. She made her way into his classroom leaving Naruto with a dumbstruck face.
At once, the class got their act together and stood up at the sight of their principal. As stiff as a statue, they waited for what was to come from her mouth. At a glance, the woman was stunning for her old age. Her blonde locks still brimming brightly to this day and not a trace of a wrinkle was found. Her busty chest protruded from her curvy body, being her best feature. The men would be caught dead if they were caught staring at them – literally. On the outside, she was an appealing prize but on the inside lay a barbaric dragon. Strict and stern was the traits of this woman and if displeasing her, well let's just say there's a coffin ready and waiting for you.
"Sai, come up here to the front." Her loud voice boomed.
Hinata had forgotten that the new student was sitting in front of her until he got up. With quick strides, he walked over to the woman. Patience wasn't a virtue she bonded well with.
"Hai, Kouchou-sensei?"
She frowned. "You were supposed to head over to my office before coming into class."
Keeping his polite smile on, he said, "Dearly sorry. It's been two years since I saw my friends and I was too excited to wait any longer."
With a huff, the principal walked out the door, her pigtails trailing behind her. "Follow me, Sai. I need to discuss some matters in my office."
"Hai!" He waved 'good-bye' and departed from the classroom.
"Okay class, I'm sure you're all done reading. Will someone–" The lunch bell rang just then, stopping him short. Iruka scowled. Today was just not his day; things were always stopping him today. "That is all. I will see you tomorrow." Grabbing his books, he left the room. Stopping in front of Naruto, Iruka said, "You're free now Naruto-kun, but from now on don't disrupt my class and….." He gave him a weird look. "refrain from scratching your back against a door. It's….unappealing."
Naruto's arms dropped in glee. His shoulders were aching from the strain from raising his arms out for too long. "I'm back again guys! Miss me?"
A few laughs and some "Hell No's" were shouted against the room. Someone had asked how Naruto bumped into Sai that morning and soon enough the males were engrossed with their conversation.
Sakura snickered at the shy raven-haired girl. "Did you miss him?"
Hinata gasped, stuttering over her words. "Wha-What? N-nonono! I didn't." She said the last few words quietly as she lowered her head.
Seeing this, the pinkette grabbed one of her arms, halting Hinata from twiddling her fingers any longer. "Let's go eat with Ino, we've gotta tell her the news."
Hinata nodded. "S-should we head over to-to the library after?"
"Hmm…maybe, if we have time. If not then after school."
They grabbed their lunches and headed over to the class next door, leaving the men to their chattering.
OoOoO
Ino looked at her friend in disbelief. Did she just hear what she thought she said? The actor, model and singer, Sai was here – he was attending her school. He was walking on the same floor she had. He was breathing the same air she was. He was in the same place she was, so very near. She knew that there were many idols attending her school, but this was Sai they were talking about – her all-time favourite superstar. At long last she could meet him.
"You're not joking are you? Hinata-chan is she lying?"
Hinata shook her head. She was still eating her bento box. Sakura and Ino were already finished with their lunches. Before they were talking about the new student, they were discussing about the trip: what they would bring and what they would do once there. "Who is he anyway?" Hinata asked, still wondering who this guy was and why Ino was squealing like a crazed mouse now.
"Eh?! Are you serious, Hinata-chan? He is like one of the BIGGEST idols out there! He starred in many movies. In most of them he was the main character." Ino proclaimed. In a second she pulled out a magazine from who knows where and flipped it to the fifth page. She pointed to a shirtless man, posing in only jeans that looked a little too tight. "See! Look at this beauty! Look at those abs, aren't they delicious." She licked her lips. Without letting anyone else speak, she continued to excitedly blab on about Sai. "His birthday is November 25, almost a month younger than I am. He loves tofu but hates dango. His hobbies include calligra–"
"ENOUGH INO!" Sakura cut in. "We get it, you're his number one fan. Just calm the fuck down, I think you're just scaring Hinata-chan."
"No, I'm not scaring her…" Her voice trailed once she saw Hinata's bug eyed look. "Uh, sorry about that Hinata-chan, I guess I got too carried away."
A few quiet minutes went by until Ino opened her mouth once again. "Hey, wanna go see him?!"
Sakura glared at her friend. "No, you're just going to end up tackling him to the ground. You're going to scare the poor boy. Plus he's talking to Tsunade-sensei, you seriously do not want to bother her."
Ino said no further about Sai. She shuddered after imagining what their strict principal would do to her if she barged into their office. Having learnt her lesson once on the first day of school, she didn't need another lecture.
"Excuse me, Haruno-san?"
Sakura turned to the sweet voice. A petite girl stood there with a math textbook in hand. "Subame-san! Yes, what can I do for you?"
"Um, the student council president asked me to tell you that we're having a meeting right after school. It's something to do about our trip."
"Alright, thank you for telling me Subame-san." Sakura smiled.
A light blush clouded Subame's apple cheeks. "Ah, it's um…..not a problem. If you'll excuse me then." Her cute voice mumbled. Her red-rimmed glasses slid a bit off her nose when she bowed. She then left the three alone to continue their conversation.
"You know, Subame really reminds me of you, Hinata-chan. She's quiet and sweet like you." Ino stated.
"I-I guess." Hinata said out loud. But she's braver; she can talk properly and she's cute. That's quite the opposite of me. I always mess everything up and displease everyone.
Sakura sighed aloud, shaking Hinata out of her depressed thoughts. "I guess we're not going to the library this afternoon. Are you done yet Hinata-chan?"
"H-Hai, I'm finished." She closed the lunch box, carefully placing her chopsticks inside. She wrapped it back into its handkerchief and got off her chair. "Let's go."
OoOoO
"So here they are." With a loud thud, Sakura dropped a pile of hard cover books in front of Ino and Hinata.
Just a while before, Sakura had left the two girls to ask the librarian where all the school's yearbooks were. The old lady, Agari, had pointed to a large bookshelf with all the same maroon-colored spines. The only thing that differentiated them from each other was the gold dates posted on their spines. The library had all the yearbooks since the opening of the school which was fifty years from then. Choosing only the recent fifteen, she made her way to the back of the library where Hinata and Ino were sitting.
"Holy shit, these are big. Just one book is like two hundred pages." Ino shuffled through a book and slammed it shut. "A book filled with males, yum."
"Five books each?" Sakura slid five books to everyone. Hinata got the first early five years, Ino the middle years, and Sakura the latest. "We've only half an hour left, so let's start."
"Wait, we don't even know how he looks like."
"Look for pictures of Naruto and Sasuke, he should be with them. We played together when we were younger so I'm not surprised if he's with them." Sakura told them. "Hinata-chan, you've got the most important role because you have the elementary years of them. I played with this guy when I was younger so his face might seem more familiar in them."
"Hai."
After five minutes of sitting in silence, with only the sound of page flipping, Ino and Sakura had already finished scanning through one book. Meanwhile, Hinata was taking her time, smiling as she went through.
"What is it Hinata-chan?" Sakura craned her neck to look at the picture Hinata had been looking at for a while now.
A picture of two smiling young boys and a grouchy cat were shown. There were small cuts and bandages on their bodies and yet they still smiled. The children were none other than Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto was holding the large feline while Sasuke held a net. The bandages, cat, and net were clues that indicated that they were trying to catch the animal. Their smiles showed that they were victorious. Comparing the two children with their present selves, Naruto retained his smile while Sasuke seemed happier back then than how he is now.
"Adorable, aren't they?" Sakura smiled, reminiscing the past she shared with the two boys.
Hinata nodded her head. They were super cute in every way. They looked so innocent and happy. She wanted to squish or poke their little round cheeks and hug them close to her chest. "Hai, but," She frowned. "Who is he?" She tapped on the photo next to that one. It was the same picture except that their eyes were open and that there was someone standing behind them, patting their shoulders and kneeling down to get in the picture. A man with long, spiky white hair looked up to the camera and smiled. His white hair didn't seem like it was from old age, instead it looked very natural on him – maybe a really light blond? Who knows. He wore a green kimono with wooden sandals. The red makeup falling from his eyes matched the red vest that he wore over top of his kimono.
"Oh! That's Jiraiya, Naruto's grandfather. I wonder how he's doing; it's been so long since I saw him. Ah, he's probably still a perverted-old man." She shook her head in disapproval.
"H-Hentai?!"
Sakura nodded at Hinatas comment. The man was known for his perverted mind. He was kind to children - didn't touch them at all - but when it came to adult females, his perverted mind switched on. Sakura remembered how the old grandfather would try to sneak into the girl's change room when they were headed to the pool one day. Of course he was caught by a little four year old Sakura. He said that it was for 'research purposes' but for a four year old, Sakura knew that wasn't the case.
"He's really nice though." Sakura tried to reassure Hinata that he wasn't the 'hentai' that she pictured in her mind. "If you met him, you'll see."
Sakura turned back to her page flipping, leaving Hinata back to looking at the oldest yearbook there. She flipped another page, her smile broadened. At the top of the page said "Iruka-sensei's Grade 1 Class", and in the photo below was a bunch of six to seven year olds and a young Umino Iruka. There were many people who she knew in it: Naruto, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Chouji, Kiba, and Shino. There were a few other students that were in the picture but they weren't as near Naruto as those six were, and so she thought they weren't important. Amongst Naruto's group of friends stood a child with powder-white hair and seemingly sharp teeth, and another smiling child with neat black hair and incredibly pale skin.
"Ano, Sakura-chan?" The shy girl was hesitant to ask.
Sakura flipped to the high school section of her last book. "Hm?" Her lack of happiness in her voice meant that she wasn't successful in finding anything yet.
"D-do they ring a bell?" She tapped on the two unknown boys.
Sakura scrunched her two pink eyebrows together. "They do, but it's not him."
"Oh…" Disappointed, she sighed.
"That's captain of the swim team, Suigetsu, and….oh my gosh, Sai-sama! He looks so adorable; those chubby cheeks and that shy smile." Ino barged in. Once again she was squealing over the boy.
"He looks like he's frowning to me." Sakura interjected. There was no trace of a smile on the six year olds' face. He looked sad rather, depressed even. He was the odd one out, everyone was smiling brightly but it was only him frowning.
"So, he's been in the school for a long time. N-No wonder everyone was crowding him this morning ."
"Guess so." Sakura looked at the watch on her wrist. "Shit, only ten minutes left! Hurry up guys."
Ino quickly took out her phone and snapped a picture of Iruka's grade one class and went back to her book.
Only two minutes passed and Ino was already squealing. Click! She took another snap shot.
Sakura rolled her eyes. Another picture of Sai for Ino to drool over.
Time passed and the bell finally rang. It was time for math, Asuma wouldn't like it if they were late. They quickly stacked the heavy yearbooks into their correct positions and left the library. In the end, they couldn't find anything about Sakura's potential fiancé. In all the pictures of Naruto and Sasuke, there were only people who she already knew. She recognized all of them but they weren't who she was searching for. Nobody she saw in the books gave her any clues of who he was; their faces just didn't add up. The only people who she played with in Konoha when she was a child were Sasuke, Naruto and that boy. That mysterious boy who she remembered nothing of. He was a sick child, he had an older brother, and he must have liked her a lot because somehow he ended up escaping out of the hospital to buy a ring. Perhaps he never enrolled into the school like he said he would? Or maybe he moved to a new town?
She was too lost in thoughts to hear her name being called by Ino. With a soft nudge from Hinata, she awoke from the depths of her mind. "What is it Hinata-chan?"
"Ino-chan has something to say." Hinata eyed Ino to begin talking.
"If Naruto and Sasuke were good friends with him, why not ask them?"
A second passed till Sakura answered. "I thought of it, but I feel bad for not remembering him. It's weird how I remember Sasuke-kun and Naruto, but not him. Maybe I will, but first I got to find some clues. I may eventually remember him."
"Ano, I-I have a proposition. Y-you know how you don't remember things about him? What if you're just getting mixed up? What if Uchiha-san or….." She, for some reason, didn't want to say the next part but urged herself to go on. "Naruto-kun was the one who gave you the ring?"
Sakura thought for a moment at what her friend suggested. It could be a possibility but she just couldn't think that one of them gave her such a present. She knew that Sasuke wasn't the 'romantic' type and Naruto, at the time, didn't know what putting a ring on a girl meant. Plus, she wore the ring everywhere she went, if it were one of them then they would have pointed it out already. Wouldn't they? She was seventy-five percent sure that it wasn't them; she had received the ring in a hospital and in that hospital she visited only that one boy. But perhaps she was getting things mixed up.
Thinking about him just gave her a headache; she could feel one side of her head throb every few seconds. She chose to stop thinking about him before the headache would intensify. Remembering that her friend needed an answer, she shrugged. "Maybe, don't count on it though." That ended their conversation about the mysterious boy.
Hinata fidgeted with her hands and bit her lower lip. Should I tell them now? I feel like it's a good time but….
Ino, noticing this asked what was wrong. Caught in surprised, Hinata wondered why Ino could tell there was something she had to say. "I-I have something to say."
All ears were perked up, ready to hear what the Hyuga had to say.
"Y-you know only one reason why I'm here, b-but you don't know the second." They recalled the talk that they had on Hinata's first night at the academy. Ayame had interrupted at the best moment and sent them to bed. Since then, the Hyuga hadn't brought up the subject again and Sakura and Ino had forgotten all about the second reason. "My father asked me to also find a person I know nothing of."
"Who?"
"A marriage partner!?" Ino predicted with enthusiasm.
Hinata giggled at Ino's guess but went back to being serious. "No, not at all. The person I'm looking for is cursed. My job is to help them. " She walked a head of them and looked back with a devious smile. Her friends stared at her with blank stares. She already anticipated this before telling them. "Who said curses didn't exist?" She giggled.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
"Ah, there goes the second bell. We better hurry; Asuma-sensei is going to get mad."
They kept at that distance: Hinata at the front, leading the way, and Sakura and Ino a few steps behind. At that moment, Ino and Sakura shared the same thought: Who the hell was she?
Ouuu, and the second reason is out...
Sorry if it sounds weird in the beginning...I hate starting chapters and so it's not that good.
And finally the intro arc is done. It's time to finally start the actual story. The next arc will be the Suna arc and the next chapter will be the start of their trip. Look forward to it!
