Yu-Gi-Oh: The Other Hunter

Episode 6: Ancient Fury

"Have you found anything on Chaos yet," Kurt asked Eddy as he ran around the apartment, straightening everything up. It had been three days since the fight against Nihilan and no one could find mention of the Chaos cards he used or the Chaos as a power.

"Not yet," Eddy replied, "I'm creating a virus to get into the Heartland mainframe and find the info. I do wish we had the guy who created that Crashbug Virus though, he's a genius."

The previous day someone had hacked into Heartland City and made all the technology go nuts.

Eddy pressed a button and said, "Done. Now why are you becoming such a neat freak?"

"I am not a neat freak," Kurt defended as he picked up a duel monsters card and slipped it into his jacket, "Nellie is coming over and I want to make sure everything is nice and tidy."

"Dude, I know you like her. Just say it."

Kurt fell anime style, "I do not like her that way. She is just a friend whom I enjoy the company of. Now why don't you make yourself useful and-"

Kurt was cut off as a doorbell rang. He walked over and opened the door to reveal an eleven year-old girl. She was wearing an open khaki vest with a white shirt underneath and khaki pants. She wore thick glasses over brown eyes. Her skin was tanned and her hair was sun-bleached.

"Hey cousin," she said in a southern American accent, "How's it going?"

When Darkness is all around you

[Kurt is surrounded on all sides by black apparitions. He is dueling the leader]

And you don't know what to do

[Kurt is giving a puzzled look at his field and hand]

Just look towards the light

{His extra deck begins to glow brightly]

And it will carry you through!

[The glowing silhouette of Number 24 appears behind Kurt]

Ignore the shadows!

{Kurt has a glowing card in his hand. The light burned away all the shadows around him]

Ignore the doubt!

[Numbers 24, 28, and 93 are glowing behind Kurt, Eddy, and Nellie]

Just never give up

[The scene shifts back to the duel. Kurt draws]

And follow your dream!

[Kurt, Eddy, and Nellie pose in front of a large ankh overlayed with a 24]

Kurt was with the girl in his living room. He was sitting on the couch while she was standing by a large suitcase.

"Emma," Kurt said, "What are you doing here?"

"Mom and Dad were on another one of their digs and sent me here to stay with you," Emma explained, "Everyone else was either sick or busy."

Kurt's aunt and uncle were archeologists and traveled around the world. At one point they even went on an expedition with the great Kazuma Tsukumo before he dropped off the face of the planet.

"Why couldn't they take you with them?" Kurt asked. He loved his cousin, but she was a little bit annoying.

"They said the dig could be too dangerous. They were visiting the tomb of some old warrior; I think it was Kiraku Sohachi or something like that. So they sent me here."

Kurt sighed, Why did it have to be me? Why couldn't one she just stay in her tent?

"So where am I going to sleep?" Emma asked.

Kurt pointed to the stairs, "My room, first on the left."

Once Emma grabbed the suitcase and lugged it upstairs Eddy said, "She's nice."

"Just wait until she gets to know you," Kurt sighed, "Then she gets real fun. What am I going to do when Nellie gets here? Emma will talk her leg off."

"So, it might be nice to talk to a girl. Can your cousin duel?"

"Of course she can duel! I was the one who taught her."

"So she's mediocre."

Kurt walked over to Eddy and slapped him upside the head, "Perhaps you should take her on a walk. Keep her busy for the next," Kurt looked at his watch, "hour or so I can get everything ready here. Then I'll figure things out."

"How about you take your cousin on a walk? I'll finish up here."

"Fine, as long as you actually clean up."

Kurt took Emma and left Eddy to clean. They walked all over Delta City, Emma talking to her cousin the whole time.

"Are you finally the manager of that little card shop you work at?" she asked.

"Nope. They haven't found a reason to promote me. I keep my head down."

"Why? You're one of the best duelists I know and you know just about everything about every card."

"While that's true, I don't like attention."

"Too bad. Well, I guess we better be getting home. You have a girl coming over."

Kurt tripped and fell. He stood up and said, "How do you know that?"

Emma shrugged, "When you're in digs you figure out how to hear every little sound. Now who's Nellie and what time will she get there?"

"She's just a friend who's helping me with a little project. Now, yes, we should get going."

Kurt felt a buzz in the back of his head and saw a man with a black aura going into an alley, "Wait here, I have something to handle."

Kurt followed the man, leaving Emma all alone. She stood there, listening to Kurt say something about numbers.

What the heck is a Number card? It seems like a strange archetype. Oh, shiny!

Emma saw a shiny card across the street. She walked over and saw it was blank. Then, the card began to transform. Some black tendrils came out and tried to enter her heart.

Why do we feel no darkness? No matter, Zero shall have this body.

A 71 appeared on Emma's right shoulder as she put it in her pocket and a 00 shortly flashed within her left eye.

After a moment Kurt returned to Emma and asked, "How are you doing?"

"Fine," she replied, "I still want to meet Nellie."

Kurt was standing near his door, trying to keep from hyperventilating. He was wearing a polo shirt instead of his usual trench coat. The bell rang and he opened it to reveal Nellie. She was wearing the same clothes as when they first met.

"H-Hello Nellie," Kurt said, "How are you doing?"

"Fine," she replied, "Thanks for inviting me."

"You're welcome."

Emma poked her head down from the second floor, "Hi there."

Nellie pointed at Emma, "Who's she?"

"She's my cousin," Kurt explained, "Her parents are on business and left her here."

"The name's Emma," Kurt's cousin said, "I'm guessing you're Nellie."

Eddy wheeled in on his desk chair, "Dinner's done."

They all walked into the dining room where there was a lot of fish and rice-based dishes. The group sat down and began to eat.

"So what is this 'project' Kurt told me you were working on?" Emma asked. Kurt coughed in surprise.

"Um, we're hunting for specific archetype," Nellie said.

"Is it called a Number?"

Kurt nearly choked, "How do you know about Numbers?"

Emma pulled a card from her deck, "I found this earlier. I want to duel you."

Kurt pulled his NESU out and attached it to his wrist, "Fine, but how did you find it?"

"I found it on the street. Now I want to duel."

They all went outside. Kurt and Emma took their places on opposite sides of the road and activated their D-Pads and Gazers

Kurt: 4000

Emma: 4000

"You know," Emma said as she drew a card, "it's been a while since I've dueled you. I set four cards and end my turn."

"Why wouldn't she summon a monster?" Eddy asked.

"I know what you're planning Emma," Kurt said, "I draw."

One of Emma's face-down cards rose, "I activate the spell Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy my middle face-down card."

One of the cards was destroyed and a red man holding a sword appeared.

"When my Artifact Beagaltach is destroyed while it's a face-down card, I can summon it (DEF 2100). Also, I can destroy two more of my face-downs. Be destroyed and reborn, Artifacts Aegis and Achilles (DEF 2500) (DEF 2200)."

A yellow woman and a blue man, both holding shields, appeared.

"How the heck can she set her monsters?" Eddy asked.

"My Artifacts have the ability to be buried from my hand and then be dug up by card effects. Plus, when I summon Aegis and Achilles to the field during my opponent's turn my Artifacts can't be affected by card effects and can't be attacked that turn."

Kurt sighed, she'd gotten too good at her dueling, "I summon Constellar Pollux (ATK 1700) and use its effect to summon Constellar Algiedi (ATK 1600). I overlay these monsters to Xyz Summon Number 50: Blackship of Corn (ATK 2100)."

"So you do have Numbers. But it can't touch my monsters."

"True, but next turn I can use its effect to destroy your monsters. I set two cards and end my turn."

Emma drew, "I set one card. Now overlay my three level five monsters to summon Number 71: Ancient Weapon Master (ATK 1000)."

A giant sword left the overlay network. It unfolded into a man wearing chain mail mixed with leather. Emma's eyes suddenly flashed red and a zero appeared on her chest. She cried out in pain.

"Are you okay?" Kurt yelled.

Emma's eyes began to constantly glow red, "Hello Kurt."

"Who are you? Get out of my cousin!"

"I am the Zero that Nihilan Spoke of. And I quite like this form, so much better than an energy body."

"Well, what the heck are you?"

"I am the most powerful Number. But if you beat me I shall evacuate your cousin."

"Once per turn I can use an overlay unit to destroy a monster in my spell and trap card zone."The face-down shattered, revealing another copy of Aegis, "Then my monster gains the defense points of that monster as attack points (ATK 1000-3500)."Number 71 pulled Aegis out of the graveyard,"Attack Number 50 with Legendary Blow!"

"I activate Half Unbreak! My monster isn't destroyed and I take half the damage."

Kurt: 4000-3300

"I activate the spell Overlay Break. Now I set a card and end my turn."

Kurt drew, "I'm going to get you out of my cousin. I attack your Weapon Master with Blackship of Corn

"The effect of Ancient Weapon Master can be activated during your turn. I destroy my face-down Artifact Failnaught and my monster gains its points (ATK 1000-2600). And since it's your turn I can bring back Failnaught (ATK 2000). Now I can set another monster from my graveyard. "

Kurt: 3300-2800

"I use Xyz Reborn to bring back Number 50. Destroy Artifact Failnaught!"

Zero: 4000-3900

"I activate Double Overlay to allow Corn to act as two overlay units for an Xyz Summon. Go Extend Xyz Summon, come forth Number 24: Twilight Blaze Lord (ATK 2500)." "

"Yes Hunter, summon your most powerful card.

I activate the spell Blustering Winds (ATK 2500-3500) and end my turn."

Zero drew, "I set a card and end my turn."

Kurt drew (ATK 3500-2500), "I summon Constellar Aldebaran (ATK 1300). He allows me to summon Constellar Sheratan (ATK 700). I overlay my monsters and summon Constellar Hyades (ATK 1900). I use the effect of Hyades to switch your monsters to defense mode (DEF 2000) (DEF 1600). Twilight Blaze Lord, attack Ancient Weapon Master."

The monster was destroyed and Emma's eyes flickered a bit.

"Hyades, attack!"

Zero: 3900-2000

"I end my turn."

Zero drew, "I activate two copies of Monster Reborn to bring back Achilles and Aegis (DEF 2200) (DEF 2500). I overlay my monsters to Xyz Summon Artifact Durandal (ATK 2400). I end my turn."

Kurt drew, "I activate the effect of Twilight Blaze Lord, I can detach two xyz materials to attack directly."

"I activate the effect of my Durandal. I can change the effect of your monster so you I have to destroy a spell or trap card I control. Since I destroy this card I can bring back Artifact Moralltach (DEF 2400). And since I brought back Moralltach during your turn, I can destroy your Number."

Kurt sighed, "I switch my Hyades to defense mode and set a card and end my turn."

Zero drew, "I attack Hyades with Durandal."

"I activate Constellar Meteor. When your monster battles mine and it survives, your monster is shuffled into your deck."

"I end my turn."

Kurt drew, "I activate Card of Sanctity so we have to draw cards. Now I summon Constellar Sombre and activate Double Summon to tribute summon Constellar Virgo (ATK 2300). That allows me to summon Constellar Zubeneschamali (ATK 2100). I overlay my monsters and Xyz Summon Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon (ATK 2600)! I use an overlay unit to destroy Artifact Moralltach and attack directly!"

Zero: 2000-0

Emma was knocked down and Kurt ran over to her, "Emma, are you alright?"

Emma raised her head, "I'm good."

"I'm going to do something that might sting a little," Kurt activated the NESU and pulled the Number from Emma. She passed out and Kurt began to carry her inside and upstairs.

Hiding in the shadows on top of a building across the street was Nihilan.

"He was able to defeat you," he whispered.

I allowed him to win. They need to collect Numbers so their emotions will belong to me once we obtain them.

"Why did you tell me to stop the duel before?"

Because, if five hunters are finding Numbers, we can get most to all in one swoop.

"Five? Who are the other two?"

You will find out in a few weeks when the World Duel Carnival begins.

-TimeSkip-

"See you sometime Cous," Emma said as a car pulled up in front of Kurt's house. Apparently she exaggerated how long she had to stay. And the excavation of the site they were at hadn't even begun.

"Goodbye Emma," Kurt replied.

As the car pulled away a beeping came from Eddy's computer. Kurt went inside and found a bunch of alerts.

Eddy was running around, freaking out. Kurt grabbed him and slapped him across the face, "What's going on?"

"The feds in Heartland found me out! I'm going to go to jail!"

Kurt looked at the alerts, "Eddy, you forgot to by the data net bill. Again."

Eddy face-palmed, "I knew I was forgetting something. Also, I can't find any mention of the Chaos cards you've described."

"Too bad. Anything else?"

"I also looked through the footage on those security cameras I set up. That Nihilan guy came by yesterday."

"Say what?!"
