Helpless

Fitz is alone in the lab. Or is he? Somebody needs to talk to him. But who could that person be, and why would they talk now? A short scene taking place after "A Hen in the Wolfhouse." Heavy FitzSimmons stuff inside. Spoilers up to Season 2 Episode 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but that should be obvious.

Helpless

"Fitz?" Simmons asked, suddenly.

"Oh, Jemma, I didn't hear you come in." Fitz replied.

"Sorry about that? Want to talk?"

"About what?"

"How are you?"

"Why do you care?" Fitz asked.

"Fitz! I care a lot about you?"

"Oh, do you now? Is that why ya left me?" Fitz accused.

"Leo! Why?"

"Answer me."

"I can't."

"I knew it. No answer. You still don't trust me, do ya Jemma?"

"Fitz. You know that I trust you."

"Oh, do ya now? Go ahead. Give me the- um- the-"

"Microscope?"

"No, it's the- uh- yeah. The microscope." Fitz sighed.

"I want you to get better. Do it yourself."

"I knew it."

"What?"

"You're treating me like everybody else. Like I'm-I'm-"

"Helpless?"

"Yeah, helpless. Thanks." Fitz said sarcastically.

"Fitz, you know I don't mean it."

"None of them mean it. It just happens. Mack is the only one who's treated me like a person."

"He is very nice."

"Simmons. Please. Get me the microscope." Fitz said darkly.

"No. I want you to get better."

"I know that."

"Then you know what I'm going to say next."

"Yes. Yes. That I need to work my mind, but not overstress it, because that would be bad and possibly damage it even more. I've heard it all."

"Fitz."

"Jemma. Please. Get me the microscope." Fitz begged.

"It's getting late. Do you know what time it is?"

"Yes."

"Why are you still working?"

"You know why. I'm trying to hold off as much as possible."

"But."

"Jemma. Get me the microscope." Fitz pleaded.

"Can we work something out?"

"No."

"But."

"Get. Me. The. Microscope."

"Fitz."

"I know."

"Why?"

"Because I want to not be helpless. Everyone looks down of me. I can see Mack even when he's being supportive."

"Fitz."

"You just had to come back, didn't you?"

"Leo."

"Jemma."

"Why would you?"

"You think I don't know? I know. I've known this whole time!"

"How?"

"The real Jemma went to sleep an hour ago." Fitz walked out the lab right through his subconscious.
