OMG HI EVERYONE WAHT IS GOING ON I'M ACTUALLY POSTING AN UPDATE! Been in SERIOUS writers' block, as you may have guessed, but I'm back! I've been reading a ton. I'm currently reading Legend by Marie Lu! This chapter may not be very awesome, but I hope you guys like it anyway. I hope this story still gets a lot of hits even after I've been gone so long (64,000 hits?! What is this sorcery?!). I thought about putting up another A/N a while ago, but I figured that would be pretty harsh, so I talked myself out of it.. I hope you forgive me for have a huge intermission/hiatus in this story!
Question (only one this time):
If you were granted the power of having scissors for feet, what would you do first? Well, first of all, I would consider that more of a hinderance than a power, but I guess I'd want to give myself a pretty mean haircut, although that might be kind of hard to do with my feet. By the way, I just cut my extremely long hair to just above my shoulders and I'm going back in a couple of days to get a longish pixie cut!
Chapter 8-Percy
The news didn't shock me in the least. By then I was completely used to the unfair time limits imposed on me to complete quests. For once I just wanted to have a good month to complete a world-saving quest and not only a week.
Around the table, no one looked really outright stunned; in fact, some the occupants of the room seemed eager to get this show on the road. I was not one of them, especially since school had just ended the day before. I'd like to have a solid week of sleeping in, but nooo the fates just love messing with me.
"So, what do we do now?" Tony asked, edging his chair back as if to leave. "I mean, there's a perfectly good TV upstairs, if you know what I mean."
"You research. Look into news stories about recent deaths and find any clues you can to finding out where Eris could be." Fury eyed Natasha and Clint. "I expect you two to have the greatest leads. And you," he added, a finger pointing straight at me.
"Wait, me?" I wondered, incredulous. "I don't do the brains part. If only Annabeth was here."
"Was that—" Pepper started, but was abruptly cut off by the sound of quiet alarms.
"Security breach, landing pad." JARVIS's voice filtered through one of the many speakers.
"What now?" Tony sounded exasperated. "Who is it?"
"No profile match found, sir."
One very awkward elevator ride later, we arrived at the landing pad, which to me just looked like a huge balcony.
The view from up that high was spectacular. A panoramic of Manhattan swept all the way around the tower, Central Park to the north and the converging of the Hudson and East to the south. Buildings of all sizes rose up from the bustling streets, though at that height they all looked miniscule. It wasn't as cool as looking down from Olympus, but it still took my breath away. Just as I strained my vision to try to spot my mom's apartment, a huge black thing caught my eye. It stood out so much against the bright blue sky that I was astounded at the fact that I hadn't noticed it before. New York City had that effect on me.
All the Avengers had already rushed forward, having left me standing in their dust. As I focused on the black thing I realized it was actually a horse. A horse with wings.
"Blackjack!" I cried, elated to see my Pegasus for the first time since last summer.
A few heads whipped around to look at me in confusion, but the rest stayed trained on their supposed enemy.
"You know them?" Fury asked me.
"Of course! Now back off before he goes killer on you guys."
Yo, boss! Wassahappenin'? Miss Blondie gave me a ring and, whoop!, here we are!
I chuckled under my breath, but my thoughts lingered on the "we" part of his sentence. Just then, though, blue-jeaned legs swung over the side of Blackjack's back, and trainers hit the concrete.
"What are you waiting for, Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth called, her grey eyes gleaming. "Get your drooling butt over here this instant or I might just have to seriously maim you."
I shut and wiped my mouth (just in case) and rushed over to her. I lifted her off the ground and we locked lips. Having upper body strength really did come in handy. A moment after I set her down, she whipped something from her belt, and before I knew it, I had a celestial bronze dagger positioned right under my chin.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again." Her eyes had a threatening glare, but her slight smirk told me that she was somewhat joking.
I raised my hands in surrender. "No promises."
"Guess that'll have to do." She sheathed her knife, tossing her golden curls over her shoulder. I hadn't seen her in the flesh since last summer. Her living in San Francisco really put a damper on our relationship over the school year, but it all worked out with the use of IM's.
I broke her gaze, and my vision settled around me at the mystified and slightly flabbergasted looks of my newfound comrades.
"Care to elaborate?" Natasha glanced at Annabeth with slight approval before returning her gaze to me.
"Everyone, this is my girlfriend, Annabeth. Annabeth, this is everyone."
Annabeth gave a small smile and a short wave.
Forgetting someone?
"Oh!" I couldn't believe I forgot about my man… er, horse. "And this is Blackjack. He's my pegasus."
Got any sugar cubes, weird-looking armored dude? Blackjack asked, nudging up against Thor. He gave Blackjack a small pat, but then backed away quickly, as if remembering what he was doing.
You know they can't hear you, right? I think back.
Eh, worth a try.
I fixed my eyes back on Annabeth and the group, contemplating what bizarre things might happen next.
Tony rushed forward. "But how did you get up here? Past my security!"
Annabeth just shrugged. "Just flew. Easy really."
Tony seemed at a loss for words and slowly backed up while sputtering incoherently.
"Annabeth," I started, "what are you doing here? I told you I had it covered."
She shifted her weight and crossed her arms. A dubious look crossed her face. "When do you ever have it covered? And I mean really have it covered, not improvising and being impulsive."
"Fine." I admitted, albeit somewhat reluctantly. "Not really ever, but I was doing fairly well for being on my own."
"Well, it doesn't matter." She stated matter-of-factly. "I'm here now. What's up?"
Thanks for reading! Again, I hope you guys liked it! Please favorite, follow, and review! They all mean so much to me!
Also, Sea of Monsters was AWFUL. Catching Fire was TERRIFIC. Thor The Dark World was AWESOME. And Frozen was AMAZING. I cannot wait to see Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars (I'm cosplaying Hazel)!
Thank you all for suggestions! They were great! A lot of people wanted an introduction of Blackjack and I know a few mentioned talking to Steve about WW2 (which is probably going to come) so thank you!
Also, if you like reading (mostly YA and fantasy novels) check out my booktubing Youtube channel: Mt. Olive MnM Reads! (Yes, weird name, I know.) Thanks! Leave a comment if you check it out please :D
