Edward turned his gaze out of the window as the darken countryside passed by him at a rapid speed, his eye's holding a dull emotion about them; train rides by themselves were a mental task considering he was traveling all the way across the country and without his brother to keep him company, it only compounded the boredom.
"You know Edward, you can talk to me." Said the blonde haired woman by his side.
Hawkeye had been assigned to him as a bodyguard for the duration of this assignment, which shouldn't have taken too long; they were being shipped off to a remote base in the forest town of Clank'ta, a lumbering investment to investigate the complaints against the Commanding Officer stationed there.
"Ah, sorry; i'm just letting my mind float for once. I'm so used to having Al here it just feels a bit odd."
Looking up from the handgun she had been cleaning, the blue eyed woman held a smile against her face at his reply; despite his age, he looked so much younger then he was and if not for Wendy, would probably have quite a bit of trouble with girls.
"Are you hungry?" She asked, doing her best to break the building tension between her and her adoptive son.
"A bit," he replied in a nonchalant manner, going so far as to wave his hand in the air.
"Well this train does have a dinning cart and I won't make you eat "rabbit food" this time around."
Edward gave a light nod before sitting up and making his way out of the compartment, failing to notice that the female marksman was following close behind. Three minutes of complete silence passed, save for the sounds of their combined footsteps. Once the younger blonde found himself at the end of the private seperator, he glanced at his reflection in the window in order to make sure his crisp, blue uniform was on straight. He felt a small gleam of pride at the golden oak leaf sitting on his shoulder, he used to hate the military, using it only for his personal gain but over the last few months he had started gaining a growing respect for it.
Reaching down, he wrapped his fingers around the door handle just as it slid open from an opposing force; jumping back slightly, he saw that it was the food cart.
"O-oh I'm so sorry Major," the stwerdas said, bowing over slightly. "D-did yo-ou want something to eat?"
Edward blinked in suprise before looking at the various goodies on the cart. Humming slightly, he bent down into a squat, gaining a ful view of the food before him.
"I'll take the roastbeef with noodles." He announced after a few minutes; one of the bonuses for being in the military was that unlike normal food carts which simply held snacks and light meals, privatized compartments often broguht full course meals ready to eat.
"Hawkeye?" He asked, turning around to allow her own selection before taking the metal platter back to their bunked quaters.
"Well it is rather late so I think i'll just have something light." She replied before taking a small salad.
Once the cart and it's operator had left, the silver-bar and the Major found themselves back in their room enjoying their seperate meals. Once again, an uncomfortable silence filled the room causing Riza to regret not bringing a package of cards for her and Edward to play with,
Looking up, she noticed that his plate was about to fall off his lap and that he himself had managed to fall asleep. Quickly sitting up she grabbed the plate and rerouted it next to her own for the cleaning staff to take care of in the morning once they got off the train. With a sigh, she gently wiped off the bit of gravy sausce that found its' way onto his cheek before placing a blanket over his sleeping form.
"Good night Eddo." She said softly before resuming her gun cleaning.
(Hey guys, sorry I've been way to busy with stuff's lately; i've been working on several projects as well as a Red vs Blue fanfic with Jaden Silver (it's on her profile) and it is directly related to her chemical imbalance universe.)
