Breakfast and a Box

A light knocking sound was slowly beginning to pull Anna out of the pleasurable world that was being asleep. Turning over, she snuggled even deeper than she already was in the soft blankets that surrounded and tried to re-enter that world. The knocking seemed to have other plans as it reappeared slightly louder than before, this time accompanied by a not-all-too-unwelcome voice.

"Anna." The voice called. "Anna, I think it's a good time to wake up now."

"No." She mumbled loud enough to be heard through the door as she recognized the voice. "Sleep be good anytime."

"I'm not saying it isn't," Elsa's voice started. "But I'd say breakfast sounds better than sleep right about now." The one eye that wasn't currently buried in a pillow shot open at the magic word Elsa had used. A nanosecond later her stomach roared at the mere concept of breakfast cooked by Elsa. Her dinner had been delicious, so there was no telling what kind of euphoric heaven it would be sent to after sampling its favorite meal cooked by her. Groaning, she forced herself to sit up and rubbed the sleep gunk out of the corner of one of her eyes.

"Mmmkay." She replied, stretching her arms above her head and yawning loudly.

"I'll take that as sign to start cooking." Elsa said happily. "It'll be ready in about twenty-five minutes, okay?"
"Cool." Anna replied, throwing the sheets off of her and swinging her legs off the bed. She could hear Elsa's footsteps disappearing down the hall as she stood and stretched for a second time. Three loud pops came from her back as it arched immensely and she moaned at the amazing relief that stemmed from them. Looking at the alarm clock, she saw that she had managed to sleep until ten thirty. She normally never slept this late, but she reasoned that she deserved it based on what had happened to her in the past few weeks.

'Elsa was right.' She thought as she scratched her side as she approached her duffel and pulled out her hygiene bag. 'It's definitely time to get up.' She also grabbed a pair of fresh clothes from the dresser before making her way to the bathroom. She had been slightly disappointed at the fact that it didn't connect directly to her room, but she figured that was a luxury saved for the master bedroom. She took a small peek out into the hall to make sure there was zero chance of the blonde seeing her outrageous bedhead. Seeing that there was no way Elsa would see her from the kitchen, she quickly scrambled out of the door and into the bathroom. It was only until she had closed the door behind her and locked it that she let out the breath she had been holding through the mad dash. Finally satisfied that she was safe, she turned around to get her first look at the place.

Once again, the extravagance of the room manage to stun her into silence. It was modeled in the same modern style as the rest of the condo and held the same winter colors. The counter that housed the sink was topped with the same white-blue marble and a flawlessly clean mirror hung in front of it, complete with LED light bars on each side to give the user the best view of their face. Past it, in the left corner of the room, was a circular shower with a sliding glass door and what appeared to be a water fall shower nozzle. On the floor in front of it was a very plush-looking light blue shower mat. In the other corner was the toilet, immaculately clean and complete with a small shelf that contained a couple of books and magazines. Beside it there was a small tile wall that separated it from an expansive bathtub that appeared to be able to allow someone to immerse the entirety of their body comfortably. None of this was what held Anna's attention though, for in the very back of the room lie something out of her very dreams. Directly in front of her, calling to every fiber of her being, was a large and incredibly heavenly-looking Jacuzzi.

"You are so getting used." Anna said to it, finally finding her voice as she stepped towards the shower. She placed her clean clothes on the corner of the counter and grabbed the hem of her t-shirt to lift it over her head when she saw an odd flash of yellow out of the corner of her vision. Pausing with the bottom of her shirt halfway up her torso, she looked over to see that it was a Post-it note stuck to the chrome surface of the towel wrack containing Elsa's neat handwriting. Letting go of her shirt with one hand, she peeled the note off the bar and deciphered the blonde's seamless cursive.

'Anna, I've made some room for you to place your shampoo, body wash, towel, etc. If you feel so inclined, you a free to use any of mine that you wish. Elsa.'

She smiled at this, sticking the note on the edge of the counter next to her clothes before lifting her shirt the rest of the way off of herself. She sloppily folded it and placed it on the counter beyond her clean clothes before shedding her pants and panties, placing them with her shirt. She folded her towel over the empty spot on the rack next to Elsa's before grabbing her shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and scrunchie and stepping into the shower. Just as Elsa had said, there were empty spots on built-in shelves for her to place all of them. As she situated each of the items, she discovered an aspect to the shower that she had not noticed from the outside. Situated in different spots on the walls were adjustable flat shower nozzles that would spray water laterally. She also found a control panel with an electronic display where she could change both the water's temperature and pressure to her liking.

'Oh, this just keeps getting better.' She thought to herself as she closed the fogged glass door. Examining the control panel, she decided to start the temperature off at ninety-eight degrees and prayed to every deity she could think of in the hopes of not becoming a human lobster. Closing her eyes fearfully, she paused for only a second before hitting the 'On' button and then rushing her finger the down arrow on the temperature gauge. Her fear was unfounded though, as the water that hit her from every angle didn't immediately boil her alive. Opening her eyes and sighing in relief, she actually found the water was slightly too cool for her liking. Returning to the panel, she incrementally began increasing the temperature until she found the perfect balance at one-hundred and two degrees. She also upped the pressure slightly for good measure before reaching for her shampoo.

Fifteen minutes later she letting the last of the suds rinse off her body as she held her scrunchie under the waterfall nozzle to rid it of any residual body was. Once the water running out of it was finally clear, she hung it from one of the small hooks next to the shelves before hitting the 'Off' button. She wished she could've enjoyed the amazing shower longer, but Elsa's promise of breakfast was far stronger than hot water. That notion was quickly challenged as she pulled the door open and the cold outside air swept into the circular space, forcing Anna to shiver ever so slightly. Not wanting to experience the horrible sensation that being both wet and cold was, she quickly snatched her towel off the bar. She furiously began rubbing it up and down her body to dry off, the friction creating the delicious heat she so wantonly craved.

Once her skin was completely dry, she ran the towel over her head a few times to rid her hair of the excess water before hanging it up again. She then threw on the clean clothes she had brought and grabbed her toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash and stepped in front of the sink. Turning on the water, she dipped her brush under the stream before squeezing a dollop of toothpaste onto in and setting to work on her mouth. Once that was done she spit out the excess foam and cleaned the brush before grabbing the floss. Once all the particle were removed from between her teeth she grabbed the mouthwash and filled the cap to the recommended line. To her, this was the worst part of her daily routine and she steeled herself for the cleansing burn of the alcoholic liquid. With a breath, she tipped her head back and drained the cap, immediately swishing the substance in every direction as she grimaced at the slight pain. After thirty seconds of the torture, she tipped her head back again and allowed the mouthwash to enter her throat, gargling to keep it from going too far down. Once she felt it begin to dip too low, she forced it back up and spit it out into the sink.

Spitting into the sink a few more time to make sure that all of the mouthwash was really gone, she replaced all of her dental hygiene items back into her bag and pulled out a brush for her hair. She quickly set to work knowing that this task took some time and that Elsa must be finished, or at least close to finishing, breakfast. Within minutes her hair was straightened to presentable levels and she debated on taking the time to braid them into her twin pigtails, but decided that that was best left until after the meal. Elsa was probably done by now and the food would only get colder if she spent any more time.

With that morbid thought in mind, Anna quickly grabbed up her hygiene bag and her pile of dirty clothes and raced out of the bathroom in as dignified manner as she could. Just like the night before, the second she opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, she was met with one of the most delicious smells of her life. Eager to taste whatever delectable food was waiting for her, she raced into her room and hastily dumped the items in her arms onto her bed. Unplugging her phone from its charger and placing it in her pocket, she made a mental note to procure a hamper for her dirty clothes whenever she next could. The thought logged itself into her short-term memory as she strode out of her bedroom and into the living room. From there she could easily see that Elsa had prepared one of her favorite breakfast foods of all time, two of them already laid out on a plate for her.

"Waffles!" She yelled, as she ran across the living room and took her seat at the island directly in front of her plate. "And they're chocolate chip!" She continued, upon seeing the little brown spots dotting their surfaces.

"Compliments of the chef." Elsa said with a smile, crossing her arms across her chest as she leaned back against the counter directly across from the island.

"Well tell the chef she's fucking amazing!" Anna exclaimed as she poured maple syrup over the two circular beauties. Once they were sufficiently covered she set the bottle down and immediately performed her best impression of a male anime character, stuffing the delectable checkered delights into her mouth as fast as her esophagus would allow her to. Elsa was actually quite amazed at how fast the enthusiastic redhead cleared the plate. She swore she'd seen a light turn on slower than Anna could eat.

"I take it you liked it?" Elsa laughed, as Anna leaned back in her chair with a look of absolute contentment written all over her face.

"Did I ever." Anna sighed, patting her stomach happily. "What kind of mix did you use?"

"None." Elsa said, enjoying the surprised look Anna gave her a little too much. "I made them from scratch."

"Goddamn." Anna said wistfully. "I wish I knew how to bake like that."

"Well, we Dutch inherently know our way around an oven." Elsa said confidently.

"And chocolate." Anna added, earning a look from Elsa. Anna noticed the looked fired one right back at her.

"What?" She continued. "You already know that chocolate is my favorite food ever! And it's no secret that Dutch chocolate is the best."

"True on both accounts." Elsa replied, smiling mischievously at Anna and earning a look of confusion from the freckled girl. "And that's why I made these." Anna's look of confusion only doubled as Elsa stepped forward and disappeared behind the island. She heard the sound of the oven door opening and the sound of something sliding across the ovens racks. Elsa then reappeared with two plates in either hand. Setting one plate down in front of her, Anna's look of confusion turned into one of pure rapture. For now, in front of her very eyes were two chocolate waffles dotted with white chocolate chips.

"DOUBLE CHOCOLATE WAFFLES!" Anna yelled, her excitement too strong to hold back as she practically leaped for her fork and knife and savagely began attacking the chocolaty delights. Elsa smiled widely at her companion's gusto, proud that her cooking could bring someone that much happiness. Grabbing her own utensils, she began tucking into her own waffles; although, not nearly at the same breakneck speed that Anna was inhaling hers. Hell, by the time she taking the last bite of her first one Anna had already finished her two and was staring forlornly at the one still remaining on Elsa's plate. Elsa caught the hungry stare and slowly slid her plate away from Anna with the back of her hand. Instead of following it like she expected, Anna met her gaze and gave her the most pleading look Elsa had ever seen on anybody.

"No." Elsa said simply. This caused Anna to stick out her bottom lip in a very a large pout and she even began making a soft whining noise akin to that of a begging dog. This caused Elsa's defense to buckle very slightly and she refused to admit to herself how cute Anna was while she was doing that.

"I said no." Elsa repeated firmly, making Anna's face fall. "But how about I get you some of that almond milk to help you wash down the four you've already had." She continued, putting emphasis on the fact that Anna had already had four to her one.

"Sure." Anna conceded in a slightly dejected tone. She did like almonds. Maybe a glass of the liquid would replace her current need for chocolate.

"Regular or vanilla?" Elsa asked as she turned around and opened the fridge.

"Vanilla." She replied, craving something sweet. She watched as Elsa pulled the yellow carton from the night before out of the fridge and grabbed two glasses from the cabinet above it. She filled the glasses halfway with the white substance before replacing the carton back into the fridge.

"Here you go." Elsa said with a smile, placing one glass down in front of Anna and taking a drink from the one in her hand. Anna grabbed it and gave it an experimental sniff before raising it to her lips and taking a small sip. The distinct taste of both almond and vanilla filled her made their presence known in her mouth and she found they worked together nicely, mixing well with the lingering taste of the chocolate waffles.

"This is pretty good." Anna admitted, taking another, larger drink out of the glass.

"I knew you'd like it." Elsa replied, placing another bite of waffle in her mouth. Both she and Anna enjoyed the remainder of the breakfast in a comfortable silence, enjoying the food, drinks, and each other's company. When they were both finished, Elsa collected up the dishes and placed them in the dish washer. She then made her way to the sink, turned the faucet on so it would run for a good amount of time, and grabbed a rag to wet under the running water. Curious, Anna got up from her seat and saw the dirty waffle maker that Elsa had used to make their breakfasts.

"I can wash that if you want." Anna offered, feeling slightly guilty that Elsa had now cooked two meals for her and she had done nothing in return.

"No, it's alright." Elsa said, smiling at the offer as she grabbed some dish soap. "Could you turn on the TV though? I'd like to see how the city's faring."

"Sure." Anna said, returning her smile. She then made her way into the living room and over to the table where the three remotes sat. It was only until she was actually standing over the remotes that she realized she had no idea which ones did what. "Uhhhhh, Elsa?" She called.

"The small white one turns on the TV and the DirecTV box!" Elsa voice called back. "The gray one with the rounded top controls the sound system! The local news channel should already be on!"

"Thanks!" Anna called back as she hit the 'On' buttons on both remotes. The TV and DirecTV box were immediately up and running, showcasing an aerial view of an indeterminate store with multiple armored vehicles surrounding it from the road. On the bottom portion of the screen where the ticker tape for minor news usually ran, was a headline in large bold font reading 'BREAKING NEWS: ARMED LOOTERS CAPTURED AFTER GUNFIGHT WITH NATIONAL GUARD'

"Damn!" Anna exclaimed, not expecting this to be the first thing she saw on the news. "Elsa, come look at this!"

"What!?" Elsa asked, running into the room as the audio finally turned on. She quickly read the emboldened sentence and uttered a soft "Whoa." Before falling silent to listen to the reporter who was talking off-screen.

"…been confirmed that the gunman were members of the local Hut gang. Over the past few months the number of high-violence crimes attributed to the gang has been steadily increasing, though this is the first time the group has ever gotten into a gunfight with any form of authorities. The gunfight started only thirty minutes after sunrise when a squad of National Guardsmen approached the building in search of anyone trapped inside upon seeing a singular vehicle in the parking lot. According to them, the front door had shown signs of forced entry and they assumed someone had been trapped in the stormed and forced their way inside. They entered the building, stating that they were National Guard and their purpose, before being met with gunfire. Luckily, none of the Guardsmen were hit in the opening moments and were able to make it back to safety with covering fire from the rest of their squad who had stayed back with the vehicle." The footage from the circling helicopter changed to footage shot while the gunfight was still in progress.

"This was taken during the gunfight, approximately forty-five minutes after the first shots were fired. At this point the squad has now received reinforcements from the rest of their platoon. Another squad had taken up positions behind the store to cut off their escape only to feign retreat as they came under fire. This left the gang members believing they had cleared an escape route. Now watch what happens here."

Only moments after she said that, the helicopter caught five people running out the back of the store. They made it about one hundred feet before being swarmed by at least a dozen or more camo-clad bodies appearing from their hiding places. Not a single gang member appeared to even get a shot off before they were on the ground being restrained with a plethora of rifle barrels aimed at them. The footage the changed to a live stream of a female reporter with a microphone standing on the other side of the street from the store which was riddled with holes.

"I'm standing in front of the store where the gunfight took place and, as you can see, it looks like something out of warzone. I tried to get an interview with the Sergeant who was leading the platoon, but he denied any comment; simply stating that they were merely doing their job and that, right now, their job is their job is to rescue anybody else who could be trapped by the storm. I'm Kelly Anderson, signing off."

The camera then changed to two anchors in their studio who commented briefly on the bravery of the National Guard platoon and giving a heads-up on what was next in the news before their station cut to commercials. Both Elsa and Anna stood there for a few seconds, letting the news story they had just witnessed process in their minds.

"Well damn," Anna said, being the first one to find her voice. "That escalated quickly."

"I'll say." Elsa replied, looking over to her. "I'm just glad that didn't happen to us while we were trapped."
"No kidding." Anna laughed. "That would've royally sucked."

"I think there's a better description for that kind of situation other than 'Royally Sucked'." Elsa responded, holding her hands up and using air quotes.

"I'm sure there is, but I'm going to stick with that for now." Anna said. "Soooo, what do you wanna' now?" She asked, rocking back onto the heels. Elsa pondered this for a moment. That news story was enough to fill her for a while and there weren't any particularly good movies on any of the channels at this time. She was considering searching for some old board games she was sure she had stashed somewhere when she glanced at her watch and saw it was nearly eleven o'clock. She suddenly knew exactly what she wanted to do and she was sure Anna wouldn't protest.

"You know, she started, gaining Anna's undivided attention. "The Price is Right comes on in about three minutes." Anna's look of curiosity quickly grew into one of unabashed delight at Elsa's suggestion.

"How do you know me so well?" Anna asked playfully, before turning around and flopping down on the far side of the three-person couch directly in front of the TV. Elsa grabbed the remote and changed it to the proper channel before taking her own seat across from Anna. The two only had to suffer through a single commercial before the gameshow's unmistakable opening played on the screen. For the next forty minutes the two women played along with the people on the screen shouting out bids, yelling at people who bid too high or too low, and cheering when they would've won a prize had they actually been on the show. Anna actually jumped up and started dancing when she hit the price of a diamond and ruby necklace exactly on the mark, making Elsa laugh hard enough force a tear out of her eye at the ridiculous moves the redhead was pulling.

Currently, the two of them were yelling at a rather chunky woman who had just egregiously over-priced a box of cookies. The two of them watched as the woman's face fell when Drew revealed the actual price and she realized that what she had guessed was way over. They both watched as the small hitchhiker climbed his way towards the cliff with the yodeling music playing in the background. He stopped only three spaces away from the edge of the cliff and the woman now looked terrified as she still had two items left to price. Drew moved onto the next item, a two-pack of Irish Spring soap, when a knock came at Elsa's door. The two of them shot a questioning glance at the door and each other before Anna rose from her seat.

"I'm closer, I'll get it." She said, gesturing for Elsa to stay in her seat. Elsa conceded and relaxed back into the cushions, returning her attention to the show as Anna walked to the door. She took a look out of the peephole and saw a man standing a few steps away from the door. Looking down, she saw he was carrying a package that only just in her view due to the curvature of the glass. Assuming he was harmless, she unlocked the door and opened it for him. The man looked like he was about to say something, but stopped in surprise at seeing the unfamiliar woman.

"T-this is Ms. Arendelle's apartment." The man stated haltingly.

"Yes." Anna replied, unsure as to why the man was acting like this.

"Then who are you?" He questioned.

"Oh!" Anna exclaimed, immediately understanding the man's behavior. "I'm sorry! I'm a friend of Elsa's. My roof collapsed because of the snow and she invited me to stay here until I can find a new apartment."

"Oh." The man said, seemingly surprised at the mention of her being Elsa's friend. "Well then, I'm here to deliver Ms. Arendelle's monthly package. It arrived two days ago we haven't had a good time to bring it up until now."

"Okay." Anna said, smiling at the man as he held the package out to her. She was about to grab it from him, only getting a small glance at the large black box in his hands when she felt herself get unceremoniously pushed out of the way by Elsa. She only just managed to keep herself from falling over and looked over to see the platinum blonde tucking the box under arm. There were only two words printed on the top of the box, one outlined in silver and the other full silver before they disappeared behind Elsa's body. Unfortunately, she only managed to catch the full silver one.

CRATE

"Thank you, Jonathan." Elsa said hurriedly to the perplexed man. "I've got it from here." She then closed the door on him and gave a small apologetic look to her before turning around and rushing off into the hallway. Anna her a door open and close within the span of a few seconds before Elsa reappeared and saw her standing in exactly the same spot.

"Sorry about that." Elsa said rubbing the back of her head.

"What was that?" Anna asked, not sure if she was referring to the box or the way Elsa had just acted.

"Oh, that?" Elsa replied, retaking her seat on the couch. "That was just a package I ordered. I've…um…I've been waiting for it for a while and I was just glad that it managed to come in before the storm.

"Alright." Anna said slowly, not believing a word Elsa had said as she retook her own seat. She wanted to press more, but Elsa quickly changed the topic by pointing out that they were about to spin the wheel for the showcase. Seeing that Elsa did not want to discuss it, she let the question die in her throat. Unfortunately, she could not let the question die in her mind. The man, Jonathan, had said that he was delivering Elsa's monthly package. That would mean that Elsa was blatantly lying to her when she said she had it ordered it and had been waiting for it for a while.

As much as wanted to drop it, and she really wanted to drop it, there was one thing that kept pulling her back in as she tried to bid the showcase. That thing was that there was only one place Elsa could've put that box, her room. And now that there was a secret box inside the secret room, Anna found herself groaning mentally at the fact that she was going to break the one rule she had promised herself she was not going to break.
