Title: Those Dog Days
Pairing(s): Pluto x Kagome Higurashi
Summary: Kagome knew that the moment her cute little master agreed to take that unruly mutt in, that her days of peace and semi-silence were over. Especially when said mutt gets it into his head that the two of them should be mates! Yeah right, over her dead body!
Author's Note: Well, obviously this is yet again another revision, though certainly more polished than the last. I had come back to this after a long hiatus, and found so many mistakes that I wanted to punch myself in the face. Anyway, I hope that you all enjoy this companion series for "Bones".
Kagome scoffed, completely unimpressed with the five-stories-tall hell hound standing before her. Locking eyes with the monster that had the audacity to bare its fangs towards her mast, the blue-eyed dog's muzzled pulled back with a menacing growl in return. Her sharp canines gleamed with malicious intent, as everything in her begged for her to sink her teeth into the hound's flesh.
It was quite clear to her, that this mutt had no idea how it should react to its betters.
Those urges, instincts that she usually kept on a leash, flared beneath her skin. She desired to show this lowly creature it's place.
That place being beneath her paws, whimpering and begging for mercy.
Such a creature had no right threatening those that she considered hers.
"Kagome…" the voice of her young master came from behind her. Stilled in place from the stern tone, Kagome's ears twitched and flickered in the young Earl's direction. This told all that her attention was all his. All the while her eyes never left the dog in front of her.
The familiar tap of her little master's cane on the ground caused her ear to twitch, she could hear the sound of his leather gloves tightening around the handle of his cane. Despite not looking at him, she could practically see the scowl that was undoubtedly on his face in her mind's eye.
"I tire of these games – the Queen's orders will be fulfilled as that is my duty as the Queen's Watchdog…" His voice was firm, and the black-furred canine couldn't help the pride that welled up in her chest. "Kagome, make that stupid beast grovel like the lowly mongrel it is in the name of the Phantomhive family!"
Hearing the orders of her master, her blue eyes shined with an eerie glow. A bone-chilling howl pierced the air as she threw her head back. She could feel her once constrained power pulse, and grow every second that passed. Around her ankles, the limiters that held back her powers loosened. The light of the moon broke through the clouds, and the moment it fell upon her, she was engulfed in light. Kagome could feel herself grow larger, her howl grew deeper and more menacing.
With the shake of her head, the light dispersed and revealed her new form to every soul in the vicinity. Horrified gasps rang out amongst the villagers, who all quivered in fear at the seemingly impossible sight. Cries of terror at the appearance of a second Devil Dog swept through the villagers. Things were already bad enough, and now the Earl has brought yet another monster into their village?
Angela, the maid of the now former Lord Henry Barrymore fell to her knees as she took in the black beast before her dear Pluto. Violet eyes were wide and glued to the majestic figure the black dog made under the moonlight, and shivers ran through her body. It was only the comforting hand of Finnian, the Young Earl's gardener, on her shoulder that broke her gaze from the mesmerizing sight.
Much to her surprise, instead of the fear that was once present on the young man's face. The blond's lips were spread in a large, relieved smile.
"Don't worry Miss Angela, the Earl has this covered and Kagome won't allow anyone to get hurt!" The sheer confidence in his voice only caused her quivering to worsen.
Taking a cursory glance towards the other servants of the Phantomhive manor, she noticed that they too have lost their fear.
Just how powerful was this Kagome that just her presence alone, could instill such confidence in them?
The voice of the Boy-Earl broke through her thoughts and the light blue-haired woman's eyes turned to him, "Enough with the theatrics Kagome, I don't have any more time to waste."
She watched speechlessly, as the boy tapped the bottom of his cane down on the ground once more. "Put that mutt down!", he commanded and the large dog howled ominously once more in reply.
Clutching her chest, Angela watched as the god lunged forward in a single bound.
With those orders from her little master, there was no point in drawing this out any longer. The ground beneath her paws shook with her every step, as she rushed forward with great speed. Coming closer, she mentally smirked as the Devil Dog's eyes narrowed and it's muzzled pulled back to reveal its own fangs.
'It's challenging me, how cute.' She thought, pushing forward in a swift burst and she found herself directly in the striking range of the white-haired hell hound. Seeing the wild swing of the other's paw, she nonchalantly dodged the blow.
'Too slow…' she couldn't help but sneer at the amateur move, and it only deepened as she ducked under another wild swing. As it passed over her head, she decided to dish out one of her own. Faster than someone of her size should be capable of, she swung her paw. Unlike her though, it couldn't dodge it.
With a yelp, the white dog couldn't stop itself from rolling back across the clearing and crash into some trees further in the forest with a large boom. Shaking herself with a huff, she crouched down before launching herself into the air to the shock of the spectators watching. Just as the other dog managed to shake itself from its daze, Kagome was already coming down on it with the force of meteor.
To its credit, it snapped out of it just in time to avoid being crushed by Kagome. Unfortunately, it wasn't fast enough to dodge Kagome's hind legs. The moment she landed, Kagome pressed all of her weight onto her front paws and swung her lower body around and kicked it in the face. The white dog could only whine once more as it was sent into some more trees, with just as much force as the last time.
Resting her hind paws back on the ground, Kagome snorted.
'Well this is just disappointing…the first time in years I've met a creature similar to me, and it turns out to be this big of a let-down." The blue-eyed dog mused, tutting in her head at the unfortunate turn of events. But either way, she had an order to fulfill.
A snarl caught her attention and her blue eyes were drawn to where her opponent shakily stood. It had pushed itself up from the ground, its crimson was locked on her as it snarled threateningly towards her. Once again, she found herself not in the least impressed. Especially with how roughed up her opponent looked.
"It will take a lot more than a couple of snarls to cow me, mutt!" she barked at the other.
Shooting forward, she then jumped into the air with the intention of finally taking him down. So it was a shock to her, when the white dog kept his ground and opened its mouth to release flames?!
Cursing, Kagome barely managed to twist her body to avoid the stream of fire. The scent of singed fur reaching her nose, caused a growl of rage to slip past her teeth.
This damned mongrel had managed to singe her fur!
Not needing to make herself any easier of a target, Kagome landed a bit away and was forced to dodge the continuous streams of fire that the other unleashed one after the other.
'It figures…just as I'm going to end it, it decides to start being interesting!' Dodging more fire, she rushed forward.
As she got closer to it, the white dog opened its mouth and released a large stream of fire. Knowing that she would hate herself for it later, she continued running forward and met the fire straight on.
The spectators of this battle cried out in shock, their tone making it clear that they believed one dog had won over the other. Even Angela and the servants of Phantomhive looked stricken, the latter three at the idea that their friend had just been killed. But before anyone could say anything else, the fire suddenly dispersed as a pained cry of pain left the white dog.
Everyone's eyes left the spot that they believed the black dog was immolated, and saw the same black dog leaping out of the fire with its fangs bared. Her fur was obviously singed quite badly, but she was otherwise unharmed. The white dog was as shocked as they were, as it didn't even think to move as its opponent landed right before it.
With a growl, Kagome pressed forward and sunk her teeth into the other dog's beck. Using all of her strength, she flipped the other over and slammed it into the ground. Jumping up, she twisted her body in mid-air, and came down with enough force that the ground underneath them caved under their combined weight.
Before the dazed dog could attempt anything else, she pressed a paw down onto the other's neck as she snarled into it face. Everything in her being was demanding its submission, and despite the amount of thrashing the dog tried – knocking over trees with the wind its tail was causing to pick up. She never faltered from her domineering hold on it, and in fact only pressed her paw down on its neck harder before leaning forward and sinking her teeth harshly into the white-furred neck.
The dog yelped in pain, and finally it seemed that the white dog gained some intelligence and stopped resisting her. Unlatching her jaw from around it throat, she watched in satisfaction as it bared its neck to her while whimpering. Complete and utter submission. Just as Kagome moved to lift her paw from the dog beneath her, a sudden rumbling from the ground underneath them caught her attention.
Just as she turned her gaze down, her blue eyes widened as white, hot water shot up from the ground and obscured her vision.
Ciel Phantomhive wouldn't admit it to anyone, but there had been a moment when he felt fear spread in his heart as the geyser of water shot up and obscured his vision of Kagome and the Devil Dog. This was a quick change from the satisfaction he had felt seeing Kagome pining the mutt to the ground not moments earlier.
Of course, he would surely would've fell due to the strength of the water rushing to fill the clearing if it hadn't been for the timely intervention of his black-clothed butler. Sebastian picked him up swiftly, and moved them a bit of distance away as the water swept away the trees, bushes, and people in its path.
The villagers all fled the scene, a majority managing to keep themselves from being swept away. While Sebastian brought both of them up onto a sturdy tree, Finnian proved to be a viable anchor for his other servants and the maid that accompanied them. The blond gardener stood perfectly still despite the rushing water, holding the Barrymore maid in one arm while Bard and Mey-Rin held onto him for dear life.
It didn't take long for the water to calm, but Ciel's lips curled down as he frowned at the fact that neither of the dogs were anywhere in sight. From the start, he had no doubt in his mind that she would win this scuffle. He, of course, knew the true extent of her power and had known the beast was no match for her. But for her not to be there…
"Kagome." He spoke clearly, expecting an answer but time passed and he didn't receive one.
The villagers themselves were happy; both of the Devil Dogs were gone, which meant the liberation of their village. None of them noticed, nor cared of the somber state that settled on the people directly involved with what happened.
Scowling, Ciel turned his gaze up to the amused one of his butler.
"Sebastian, take me to Kagome."
Sebastian nodded, the corner of his lips curling up in a smirk. "Yes, my lord."
Nestled in the demon butler's arms, Ciel tightened his grip around the handsome man's neck as they took off. Behind them his three servants, Bard, Finnian, Mey-Rin, followed along with the anxious Angela. Though seeing as they didn't have a demon assisting them, they were coming at a slower pace.
Coming to a stop in another section of the forest that held a shallow amount of water, the young Earl was quickly settled on his feet by the taller male. "She is coming from that direction, my lord." It was when the four servants arrived, that he turned his gaze in the direction that was pointed out to him by Sebastian.
Minutes passed, and after a fit of fidgeting, Angela finally spoke up.
"I'm sorry Earl Phantomhive, but I fear that both of them may have died from pressure of the water…" Ciel only scoffed in response.
Turning his one uncovered eye onto the woman, his brows furrowed in disdain.
"You are quite wrong about that. Kagome is a part of the Phantomhive household – there would be no way that something as insignificant as that geyser would be able to kill her."
Not allow her any chance to retort his claim, he turned his attention back towards the direction which he felt his bond with Kagome pulling him. It was getting closer by the second, and it was only moments later that the bushes in front of him rustled.
Everyone watched with bated breaths as a person stepped out from behind the foliage.
The Barrymore maid gasped in shock, and Ciel couldn't help the smirk that slithered on his face at the sound. The person stepped forward into the moonlight, and Ciel glanced in Angela's direction. "Like I told you, being capable of surviving something like this is expected of those serving the Phantomhive family."
Standing there was Kagome, in her human form. Her curvaceous body was bare for all to see. Her long black hair that fell to her waist swayed with the breeze that passed by. Bright blue eyes peeked at them all from underneath her fringe, but they held such intensity that any lesser man or woman would look away. They looked out of place in such a classically Asian face, but if anything caused her to seem even more eye catching.
Full, pink lips were pulled into a smirk quite similar to Ciel's own, as she came to a stop a bit away from them. "I have done as you've order, my cute little master."
Reaching for the body of the white-haired man that was slung over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes. She dropped him onto the floor behind her, and kneeled – uncaring of her and his nakedness, which caused the servants to flush in embarrassment. One clawed hand laid flat on the ground, while the over was pressed against the swell of her breast, causing a trial of blood to leak from Bard's nose.
Bowing her head, the ears perched on the top of her head twitched.
"I've subdued this stupid beast known as the Devil Dog, in the name of the Phantomhive family…" Lifting her head, she looked at them all from beneath her thick lashes with her glowing blue eyes, "…as is my duty as the attack dog of the Phantomhive family."
Well this is the second time (or is third?) time I'm rewriting this shot series. This time I've actually fixed the errors, and this is the last time I'm going to be doing this. XD At least, that is what I say now. In my opinion, this rendition is a lot more interesting. Added some events, especially for the fight between Pluto and Kagome. I noticed that I made Kagome seem invincible, and thought it would be more interesting to have her caught off guard.
Inugami! Kagome is an arrogant one, and rightfully so, but I felt it would be more interesting to have her caught off guard. The fact that he was able to do such, will make her consider him a bit more than she did in the first version.
After all, Pluto has the potential to be her equal…at least that's what I think.
Hopefully you will enjoy these changes, and I can't wait to see what you all think about this one. You can just mention it in a review for the third chapter.
